a tray of food with fries and salad
    Kathy X.

A group of friends and I dined here for lunch when I came to visit Philly one weekend. This was a very casual spot, serving Middle Eastern cuisine. There were a few tables and chairs for seating, and guests order at the counter. The menu was extensive, so it took me time to figure out what to order. I know I had to try the Lassi drink, and chose the Pineapple Coconut flavor. Both the pineapple and coconut taste shone through. The smoothie was refreshing, milky smooth, as well as thick with coconut flakes throughout. For my entree, I finally went with Lamb Chops with fries. The meal also came with salad and pita bread. There were only 2 Lamb Chops, but they were huge! The lamb was perfectly charred, but were a bit tough. The fries were wonderfully crispy, while the salad was nice and crunchy. I also got to try the Baklava, which was satisfyingly sticky, nutty, and sweet. The staff were great. Very friendly and accommodating.

This is one of our favorite go to restaurants for dinner. Prices are reasonable, ingredients are fresh, friendly service, and delicious food. We've ordered the meat pie, spinach pie, chicken kebab salad, chicken shawarma entree, grilled salmon entree, NY chicken, NY fish and NY combo. I highly recommend the meat and spinach pies as an app! Very delicious and filling. The spinach runs out quick so get it while supplies last. I can only eat one pie since it is stuffed with filling. NY food is very tasty. Only option I wasn't a fan of was the fish, but that was preference. The fish wasn't fried enough to my liking. The entrees are where it's at. The priciest option out of everything I listed above, but I always have leftovers and it comes with delicious pita bread. Highly recommend this spot!

I've used to go here for chicken and rice all the time till this recent visit. I was ordering the mixed grill platter for a group of friends. It's a yellow rice platter with a mix of meats ontop. Huge portion, good for small groups (4-6 people). It comes with multiple sides of pita bread and sauces. I opened up the pita bread and took a bite real quick to try it...should have looked at it more closely. It was stale and had mold growing on it. I had to run and remove the pitas from the serving table before anyone ate it and got sick. Really big turnoff when an establishment serves you moldy food.....it's crazy because it came in 4-5 individually foil wrapped portions. I'm surprised no one saw the mold as they were packing it. Also they're stingy on the red sauce. Do Not Recommend. Attaching some pics and receipts.

If you're craving a nice greasy platter like the ones you get off a food truck then this is the place to come. They have chicken, lamb, kebab and shawerma options over yellow or brown rice. They also have a variety of mediterranean dishes, appetizers and salads. Their menu has a few coupons in the back for family meal options. Food was ready in less than 15 mins! Best part of this place is that they have a parking lot!

Stumbled upon this place as we drove by the neighborhood and the service was super friendly! Ordered the NY Fish with cajun fries and the chicken maroosh combo. The NY Fish was delicious. It comes with lots of white sauce and a tiny slab of spicy red sauce plus a salad. The salad is only a few pieces of lettuce so was underwhelming. The Cajun fries were well fried and had a good amount of seasoning! The chicken maroosh's flavor was a little lost. Couldn't really taste it nor figure it out. I prefer the chicken maroosh from Saad's Halal in West Philly (bigger and better). The two tiny slices of pickles and 4 tiny pieces of mini tomatoes were skimpy too, sadly. The bread was well toasted though!

Al-Sham is quickly becoming a weekly routine for us! I need my lamb kebab and garlic sauce fix! So bummed that I didn't take pictures, I must have been very hungry I forgot. This time around, I got the lamb kebab sandwich combo and my husband had the Mixed Kofta. The lamb kebab sandwich was packed with generous servings of lamb, cut in large cubes. It was tender, and so juicy. Best value for lamb under $10. Make it a combo with an additional $2.50, and you get a side of fries and a soda of your choice. My husband enjoyed his Mixed Kofta entrée too. He had a little taste from the Mixed Al- Sham entrée the week before, and liked it so much, he got only kofta this time. I had a bite of his yellow rice, made with saffron, and it was delightful. They also give you a side of hummus, salad and pita when you order entrees. After dinner, my husband and I split a baklava for dessert. It was a good baklava, well-made and satisfied our sweet tooth.

Really delicious food with great portion sizes. The chicken shawarma wrap is very tasty and filled with chicken! Their garlic sauce is not very pungent and tastes a lot more like garlicky ranch. I really like the flavor of their falafels. It's a bit dry but really flavorful. Their fries are also delicious! Just make sure when you order takeout and have a drink, you remember to grab it! I forgot mine when I picked up my food. Their online ordering system is really easy to use.

This places chicken and lamb over rice is so damn good. Disappointed in myself for taking si long to try it! Their white sauce is so good and is a great compliment to their already really tasty French fries. It's a really good portion and can pay two meals.

Small Middle Eastern chain in the Philly area

Al Sham is a fine Middle Eastern/Arabian eatery - specializing in takeout. There are a few branches of this establishment in the Philadelphia area but my favorite one to go to is in Northern Liberties directly north of Center City Philly. There's ample parking and never a long wait there. My most favorite item to order at Al Sham is their 'Sham Sampler'. This is a platter consisting of two spinach pies, two meat pies, two cheese pies, and two Kibbees. Also three dipping sauces are included including a tasty cucumber yogurt. All the items in the sampler are excellent but my very favorite are the cheese pies. These are delicious and melt in your mouth. The kibbees and spinach pies are also very high in the taste bud department. The meat pies are good but perhaps the crust could be a little lighter. And all this food is fairly priced. When you are hungry for some Middle Eastern food, Al Sham is def worth keeping on your radar.

i was looking for some healthy spots in the nolibs area and this place was recommended to me! overall, it was tasty but the meat was a bit chewy and it wasnt cheap! for $40 we got a kebab salad, kebab entree and a hummus w/ pita the hummus and pita was delicious! i wish the pita was warm but the hummus was delicious i got the lamb and beef kebab. the beef was super chewy and i ended up not eating them but the lamb was decent, not as chewy as the beef luckily. the salad was decent, nothing crazy but a good assortment of veg (cucumber, tomato, red onion) the vinagrette dressing was tasty! i tried my husband's chicken and lamb entree and it was good. the side salad in the entree is a little sad though i would maybe come back for the hummus but definitely ordering something else next time, a meat that's less chewy!

I was really happy with the lamb. It was very tender and flavorful. It also came hot out of the grill. It didn't have a "strong" lamb flavor and was slightly smoky. The rice was super fragrant. I think it had a lot of butter or oil so it felt moist, and the carrots/raisons inside were a nice touch. The food went really well with the three sauces. There was also a good cardamom flavor inside. The food came with a ciabatta-like fried bread. I recommend this restaurant
