A group of friends and I dined here for lunch when I came to visit Philly one weekend. This was a very casual spot, serving Middle Eastern cuisine. There were a few tables and chairs for seating, and guests order at the counter. The menu was extensive, so it took me time to figure out what to order. I know I had to try the Lassi drink, and chose the Pineapple Coconut flavor. Both the pineapple and coconut taste shone through. The smoothie was refreshing, milky smooth, as well as thick with coconut flakes throughout. For my entree, I finally went with Lamb Chops with fries. The meal also came with salad and pita bread. There were only 2 Lamb Chops, but they were huge! The lamb was perfectly charred, but were a bit tough. The fries were wonderfully crispy, while the salad was nice and crunchy. This is one of our favorite go to restaurants for dinner. Prices are reasonable, ingredients are fresh, friendly service, and delicious food. We've ordered the meat pie, spinach pie, chicken kebab salad, chicken shawarma entree, grilled salmon entree, NY chicken, NY fish and NY combo. I highly recommend the meat and spinach pies as an app! Very delicious and filling. The spinach runs out quick so get it while supplies last. I can only eat one pie since it is stuffed with filling. NY food is very tasty. Only option I wasn't a fan of was the fish, but that was preference. The fish wasn't fried enough to my liking. The entrees are where it's at. I've used to go here for chicken and rice all the time till this recent visit. I was ordering the mixed grill platter for a group of friends. It's a yellow rice platter with a mix of meats ontop. Huge portion, good for small groups (4-6 people). It comes with multiple sides of pita bread and sauces. I opened up the pita bread and took a bite real quick to try it...should have looked at it more closely. It was stale and had mold growing on it. I had to run and remove the pitas from the serving table before anyone ate it and got sick. Really big turnoff when an establishment serves you moldy food.....it's crazy because it came in 4-5 individually foil wrapped portions. I'm surprised no one saw the mold as they were packing it. I'm sorry I didn't come here sooner. This might become my go-to takeout. Got the Mixed taste appetizer, with stuffed grape leaves, hummus, pita, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, and falafel. It was all good. The falafel was so delicious my husband thought they might use the same fryer as the meat. Bad for my vegan family members when they visit, but it was flavorful to me but not too heavy. Stumbled upon this place as we drove by the neighborhood and the service was super friendly! Ordered the NY Fish with cajun fries and the chicken maroosh combo. The NY Fish was delicious. It comes with lots of white sauce and a tiny slab of spicy red sauce plus a salad. The salad is only a few pieces of lettuce so was underwhelming. The Cajun fries were well fried and had a good amount of seasoning! The chicken maroosh's flavor was a little lost. Couldn't really taste it nor figure it out. This time around, I got the lamb kebab sandwich combo and my husband had the Mixed Kofta. The lamb kebab sandwich was packed with generous servings of lamb, cut in large cubes. It was tender, and so juicy. Best value for lamb under $10. Make it a combo with an additional $2.50, and you get a side of fries and a soda of your choice. My husband enjoyed his Mixed Kofta entrée too. He had a little taste from the Mixed Al- Sham entrée the week before, and liked it so much, he got only kofta this time. Really delicious food with great portion sizes. The chicken shawarma wrap is very tasty and filled with chicken! Their garlic sauce is not very pungent and tastes a lot more like garlicky ranch. This location has a parking lot, there's also street parking on the side of the plaza. Seating is adequate. There are a few branches of this establishment in the Philadelphia area but my favorite one to go to is in Northern Liberties directly north of Center City Philly. There's ample parking and never a long wait there. My most favorite item to order at Al Sham is their 'Sham Sampler'. This is a platter consisting of two spinach pies, two meat pies, two cheese pies, and two Kibbees. Also three dipping sauces are included including a tasty cucumber yogurt. All the items in the sampler are excellent but my very favorite are the cheese pies. These are delicious and melt in your mouth. The kibbees and spinach pies are also very high in the taste bud department. The meat pies are good but perhaps the crust could be a little lighter. And all this food is fairly priced. When you are hungry for some Middle Eastern food, Al Sham is def worth keeping on your radar. read more

This was my second time ordering from AlSham, and unfortunately, it will be my last. The first time I ordered, the wait was long, but I figured it might have been due to the lunch rush hour, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. However, this second time around, there was no one else in the restaurant before me, yet they still made it a point to prioritize every other order before mine. I hate to say it, but it felt as though the service was based on something other than just the flow of orders. While I truly hope it wasn't the case, the fact that customers of a different ethnicity who came in after me were served almost immediately raises some real concerns about the treatment I received. There was absolutely no logical reason for me to wait that long, especially considering people are often on their lunch breaks and don't have time to waste. I will not be returning to this restaurant, nor will I recommend it to anyone else. AlSham, you need to seriously reconsider how you treat all of your customers, regardless of background, if you want to keep their business. read more

Food here is great! One of the best Middle Eastern spots in the city. I've enjoyed the kibbeh, chicken shwarma wrap, and combo place. The falafel was especially good - very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The people here are also lovely. One of the members of my party has celiac disease and is deathly allergic to gluten. The owner made sure that everything she ordered was gluten-free and clearly cared. That meant a lot to me. I've ordered from them SO many times in the past, I've lost count. Last year I even had Al Sham on my birthday because I love it so much. I knew I couldn't possibly be disappointed (who wants a disappointing meal on their birthday??). I love the NY combo platter. I love it so much that I had a hard time branching out and trying other things but I'm glad that I did. I order from here about once a week and I love their food! I always order NY Chicken (Al Sham Style) which is my favorite, however today I accidentally ordered the regular NY Chicken. As the restaurant loses customers and profit, they buy ingredients (bread,fish) in bulk, and freeze it. Hence the questionable taste at time. The employees are not mandated to wear gloves and/or hair nets at all times during shifts. Employees vape during shifts. The place is operated primarily by family. The manager and his wife and two sons are employed there. Anyone outside of the family is expected to fulfill jobs outside of their role. They have dropped food on the floor, and proceeded to still use it. There is a rodent infestation of some sort, seeing that every few weeks I was expected to clean up rodent feces from behind the counter next to the shawarma machines. They are over charging you for low quality food, cooked unsanitary. Be mindful of spending your money at this establishment. read more

I had frequented this place a few times based on a friend bringing me there. Today I went in after work I had 10 hours on my feet as those are normal hours for my work day. I just wanted a meal and I like halal because I'm a muslim. So I grab a menu and the guy @ the counter tosses two menus in the menu pile that were lying on the counter so I felt that he was sending me a message not to leave the menu on the counter or put it in the pile so vibing his energy I walked away from the counter to reveiw my order so when I came back to the counter I pointed to the chicken and lamb combo he took my money and I sat. But I could feel his agitative spirit. 10 minutes go by he calls a female that may or may not have come in before me but I sat patiently. He then calls out to me after about 2 more minutes " did you have falafel?" I said no I had lamb and chicken combo. 5 more minutes go by and he looks @ me to see if agitation had sat in yet because I knew it didn't take that long because everything is pre cooked, so he asks me again did you have falafel I said no I had the chicken lamb combo and he has this great look of satisfaction on his face because @ this time I was agitated and he was happy but still my order wasn't up but the cook was already working on a party of three peoples order . I asked for my money back and left never to return but I know they really don't care because they have plenty of customers. But they are Indian and acted racist as they always do towards African Americans especially men. So I will never go back there and won't be recommending my friends because he intentionally did the thing as if he didn't know what I ordered but the falafel is a different price but when he gave my money back he gave me the money for the chicken and lamb combo so I know where his intentions were to be racist like he was . Amazing food spot, loved the quality of the food even when it was down to the last pair of customers, which was me and my wife. The store was clean and the service was very friendly, however there was a lot of personal conversations being spoken out loud by a young fellow who I assume ran the business.
