Typical divvy cafe atmosphere. I sat at the bar area just before lunch time, took a second to get my order in, but the cook came and took my order. She was very friendly, and was very pleasant. I ordered the melt sandwich and upgraded the chips to onion rings. The patty melt was made to perfection and was probably in my top 3 best melts I've had. They didn't skimp on the cheese or onions which is a plus, and the bread was grilled perfectly. Onion rings were good, and the quantity was perfect. I got sweet tea to drink and it was made to perfection as well. If I'm ever back they, I'll definitely be stopping back. read more

I dine out daily, and today was the worst service I have experienced this year... I sat at the counter for breakfast at 10:15... I was finally able to cash out at 11:31... both servers acted as if they did not want to be there... at least they were working... the male "cook" did very little, other than talk... no eye contact was made, and no apolgies were offered... I could not get a coffee refill to save my life... 4 tables needed bussed when I arrived, and remained that way when I left... the majority of the counter was dirty... 2 separate couples left without eating... one was not acknowledged and left after 5 minutes of waiting... another sat at the counter, ordered, then left 15 minutes later after not receiving their food... that is 4 customers that I imagine will never return... where was the owner or manager? todays experience was not what I have come to expect from Aladdins read more

This is a gem of a diner in Granville. It's a small place along a main strip of shops, and when you walk in, you're immediately hit with the smell the food being prepared. We could sit where we wanted when we came in, the waitress was quick, kind, and checked on us often. You can see the cooks prepare your food from where you're sitting. Prices are reasonable. The fries are similar to fresh cut fair fries- absolutely delicious. My friends got lunch sandwiches, and they loved them as much as I enjoyed my breakfast bagel. The only thing that would make this place better would be malt milkshakes. I'd recommend if you're in the area. read more

The owner is nice and the food is generally ok but the restaurant is always dirty. The main cook, for the 12 years that I've lived in Granville constantly sneezes on or open mouth, no cover coughs on the food. She picks or wipes her nose and IF she is wearing gloves, never changes them. It's disgusting. Today, we witnessed her put raw bacon on the grill next to the potato's using her hands. She then moved it around with tongs and then used the same tongs to grab toast. The interesting thing is that the guy that used to cook on the grill there did the exact same things. My guess is that there is just no standard of cleanliness across the entire restaurant. The food is meh at best and we will not be going back. We were in Granville for a track meet and arrived quite early (8:30am). We decided to grab some breakfast but really had no idea where to go. We stopped in at the Buxton Inn...they don't serve breakfast. We didn't feel like going to the Granville Inn because it didn't seem as inviting or as open, literally, (We didn't know how to get into the place). So we did a quick U-turn and ventured West on Broadway. We parked in front of a little eatery called The Aladdin Diner. Upon entering we knew we had found an awesome place to eat. Prices were unbelievably low and the staff was unbelievably friendly and welcoming. I decided that for me, lunch would be breakfast and I enjoyed a great hamburger with hand-cut fries. As we were paying our bill, the waitress advised that there is an aladdin Diner in Columbus! as I thought about it, I remembered seeing the small restaurant on Thurman Avenue in the heart of German Village. Do yourself a favor and either make the trip to Grandville to enjoy a wonderful destination meal or head down to German Village in Columbus and enjoy what I promise will be a satisfying experience. read more

Nice diner along the attractive street with other different types of eateries. You seat yourselves, and the menus are on the table. This is a 60s style diner. Not trendy or hip, just good food at a good price. The ceiling looks like old fashioned tin. Pictures of Granville landmarks line the main wall. The other side is a grill and counter with stools. We both ordered the patty melt which came with chips. The nice waitress asked if we wanted the chips or another side. I asked for cottage cheese in place of chips, and I received a hefty serving. We stopped in for lunch. The place was full, people were waiting to pay, and we waited awhile to be seated, and we waited to pay. I'm normally impatient when I'm "hangry" and today was no different. Something told me to stay, and boy am I glad I did. I knew what I wanted, and ordered the club. My wife asked the waitress what she thought was good, and she immediately said the burgers. I switched to the burger, and YUM! It was delicious! Just like grandma used to make! A soft corn dusted roll with a 1/2 pound of 80/20 beef with LTO, and mayo! The lettuce wad leaf style, the tomato was thick sliced, and the onion was thick slices sweets. I got the onion rings, the wife the fries. The rings were very good! Real onion rings, not the fake stuff, the fries were sliced potatoes that had been double cooked brown. Both were in point for a diner. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a 50's greasy spoon with smoke from the flat top clinging in the air, filled with the mix of breakfast, and burgers. The decor has been painted at some point to a more modern scheme. But the booths and counter seating are still there. All in all, this is a great greasy spoon to grab some grub. read more

Great little place. Love it. You go there expecting exactly what you see. A little hole in the wall restaurant with tons of eclectic atmosphere and "American Comfort Foods." If you want exotic tastes and menu, look elsewhere. My boys and I have been going for YEARS. Yes they have up and downs in food quality of the years but I've never had bad food. This is my go-to breakfast spot in Granville. It's not the fanciest. It's not the biggest (quite crowded, actually). It's not the best food in town. But.... they have a lively diner atmosphere with a menu full of yummy, filling [greasy] meals at really low prices. Get your simple bacon and eggs or get something a bit more complex, to whatever your taste is. I've dined here with groups and I've dined here alone numerous times. All were pleasant meals, none of which I had to wait too long for. The crowd is a mix of locals, tourists, and college students. Everyone fits in here. This place has basic breakfast staples and decent service, the bathroom was clean. We were in town for a major event and the place was slammed but the service was still reasonable and efficient. I would have liked my coffee refilled at some point but no one is perfect. Our orders were all correct despite many of them having bat and ball changes to how the menu described them. What I got instead was sausage gravy that I used to eat in my high school smothered on top of two biscuits. My wife and I had breakfast here last Sunday. The Aladdin is right downtown Granville and is a charming throwback to early 20th century America. The place has an old time diner feel about it. A lot of the food is prepared on the grill right in front of you if you take a counter seat, which is exactly what we did. It was fun to watch the banter between cooks as the hustled to turn out orders quickly. The place has a good clientele and it's easy to see why. Nothing fancy happening here, just good simple food prepared well and served quickly. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette and my wife got the Monte Christo sandwich. My order was great, my wife's wasn't so much. The ham in her sandwich could have been warmer and the bread was only grilled on the outside. Traditionally, a Monte Christo is assembled, then dipped in an egg wash and then quickly deep fried. That didn't happen here, so I removed one point from what would otherwise be a 5 point review. This place could be great... but it's on the lower-end of OK. The food is average so I'll just list what could be done to make eating here a better experience for the customers. 1) At the end of each day, wipe down the salt and pepper shakers, ketchup and mustard containers and everything else on the tables and counter that customers regularly pick up. It is clear this is never done. 2) Put a swinging door on the kitchen entrance. That's gross in there. 3) Mop the floors with grease-cutting solvent a couple times a day -- maybe one with a nice lemony smell. 4) Limit the times each hour employees working in the kitchen come into the dinning area. That's just nuts. 5) Connect with local farmers for your eggs, bacon, meat, fruit and veggies. We grow/raise it all in the area so why not use it? Owners, listen to the inner Gordon Ramsay in you. What a disappointment. My family and I rode our bicycles from Alexandria to have a nice afternoon in Granville. We looked at the menus for a couple different places and decided the simplicity of Aladdin's menu appealed to us. The service was less than exemplary. We had to ask for straws, silverware and napkins. Whenever we wanted something we had to wave over a waitress as they never visited our table on their own. The food was okay. I had. Grilled chicken salad which consisted of bagged iceberg lettuce, chopped dry chicken and bottled Italian dressing. Not too thrilling. My fiancé had a chili dog and fries, it is what it is. My daughter had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and chips. In short, I could have made all of this stuff at home for pennies instead of paying twenty dollars to have it half heartedly served to me here. read more

This little diner was such an awesome addition to our recent trip. We were in the area for a wedding and happened upon this place based on availability and proximity. We walked in, no call ahead, had a group of 15. There was a booth set up that could fit all of us and we were seated immediately (super impressive for a small diner) This place was hopping, lots of traffic in and out. We got a wide range of different dishes and we all left raving. Sourdough French toast was delicious, wonderfully tasty omelettes, pancakes cooked to perfection, and sausage and gravy biscuits that impressed the southerners amongst us. Despite being busy and short staffed, we were well cared for and received our food relatively quickly. When we reached Aladdin, we wondered if it was Middle Eastern Cuisine, but when we looked in, it was obviously a Greasy Spoon, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the Monte Cristo and my breakfast companion ordered a standard eggs over easy, hash browns, and bacon breakfast. . Our orders came quick: within 5-6 minutes, so I'll appropriately start with the food.. . My Monte Cristo was "exactly what you'd expect" - but then again, it was really good. I don't know if I was hungry or not, but I quickly devoured my sandwich and chips (Ruffles Standard Deli/Restaurant Style). I snagged the waitress and ordered their version of the Fried Bologna Sandwich. I nearly inhaled it, too. . All three sandwiches were BETTER THAN Average. They were really good. - Sure, it's greasy spoon, but that seems like that would be easy to Give a bad yelp to - just to be pretentious. The total bill (three decent-sized sandwiches, two sodas: 19.50.. . Can you even beat that at Wendy's? I mean, honestly, if you're giving this two stars because it's bologna or fried egg sandwiches - you have to take it for what it is and measure it on that scale, too. That said, this is 4-Stars. This place serves breakfast and lunch all day. They serve sandwiches, omelettes, hotcakes, toast - very classic and traditional American cuisine. Their food has a lot of grease like what the other Yelp users said. The place itself has a dirty feeling. The floor feels greasy and tables aren't completely wiped down clean prior to seating new customers. Ingredients for the food they make are definitely mass-produced and processed, such as eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. The food is also hastily made. The quality of the food doesn't justify the prices here. Service is scatterbrained. Waiters don't check up on patrons (at least for my table). Not being a snobby New Yorker but being a normal diner, that's unprofessional for any restaurant establishment. Perhaps they're only like that to college kids, I don't know. Since there are only a few businesses in Granville, Aladdin is part of an oligopoly. No competition and nowhere else for Granville townies and Denison students to go which means that however shoddy the service and food are, they will still get business. And if they have good business, they have no incentive to improve. read more
