What a great place... Wifie and I really enjoyed our trip to the Big Apple Cafe. The staff was over the top friendly, and the service was great. The decor is a cool kind of small town diner with a hint of New York. The food is really good... I had the Ruben with the fresh cut fries, which was delicious - the fries are a must try. Wifie had their salad with chicken, which was really big and very well put together. This place is well worth stopping by for a meal. They serve breakfast all day. read more

Solid breakfast spot. So happy we stopped in. Got up this morning excited to go to Early Birds with my parents only to discover they were closed (with no explanation), so we Google searched an alternative nearby and found this place. We were all pleasantly surprised by our breakfasts - bacon crispy! Breakfast potatoes hot and crispy. Pancakes and French toast fluffy. Breakfast burrito was the perfect size. Want to make special mention of the biscuits and gravy because we travel all over the country and try biscuits and gravy even though 9 times out of 10, it's a giant fail. Most restaurants serve a thick pasty, gloopy mess with little to no sausage or flavor on an underdone biscuit. NOT HERE! As soon as it hit the table, I knew we were going to like it. You could SEE the sausage. The gravy was not too thick; the sausage was spicy and the biscuits were light and fluffy. Always a little room for improvement, so here are two areas where they could step up their game: 1. Coffee. It's weak and seems low quality. I love when a breakfast place makes coffee a priority - like good enough you'd come in for a cup of coffee alone. Maybe find a local roaster doing it right and collaborate with them. 2. Syrup. So first off, I'm a New Englander who despises fake syrup, so I'm a little biased already. Offering the real stuff even with an up charge is always appreciated. You have some local maple farms in Ohio! Aside from that, if you're going to use the fake stuff it should at least have some artificial maple flavor. This was just weird - syrupy but not maple and not even really that sweet. Not sure what I was eating. All in all though, it was a great breakfast, and I expect I'll be back soon - but I'll drink my coffee on the way there, and I'll be the one with a jug of maple syrup on the table. This is a cute little diner in Newark. We found it from Yelp. The pictures and reviews all looked good. It is located in a strip mall and a tiny space. The service was excellent, the food simple and delicious. We got breakfast. The potatoes were real and not frozen. The omelets were tasty. A lot of the dishes on the menu sounded delicious it was hard to decide. Simple food and good service makes this a go to breakfast spot in town. read more

One of my favorite breakfast and lunch diners in the area. Fast service, always busy, and clean. We've had to wait a bit for a table because they are so popular. The prices are reasonable and servings are large. My favorite are the BLT and the Signature French Toast. Hubby likes the Grilled Chicken Skewers, Honey Bourbon Chicken Melt and the German Fries. What an adorable, cozy, friendly, and yummy place to eat! The wait staff is so friendly and cheerful, the menu offers a great variety of choices, the food is good quality, fresh, and well presented, and the dining room is clean and comfortable. I wasn't sure about the Curried Chicken Salad, so the waitress brought me out a little sample before I ordered...delicious! Good portion, too. We decided to try this one because of the good reviews but we were very disappointed. My wife had crab cake eggs Benedict which she thought was ok. I ordered an omelette with hash browns and a pancake. I was told I could sub the pancake for toast but was then charged $1.25 for it. The omelette was small and looked unappealing. It had very undercooked onions in it which I had to remove. The hash browns were good but a very small portion. The pancake was the best part. We waited in line to get a table but I couldn't find any reason to return. read more

Best place for breakfast in town! I've never had anything there that is not fresh & delicious. Hash Browns & home fries are crispy! Build your own omlets are wonderful. Eggs Benedict are yummy! Owner Alison is an amazing lady. She hires employees that otherwise can't get jobs. She rides on faith & it works. Service is commendable. Great lunches as well. Be sure to try the Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich. Rueben sandwich is terrific! Don't know what happened with their cream puffs that we're out of this world. I have had several people tell me this place is good so I decided to try it today. It was very good! I asked my waitress for recommendations and she gave me a wide variety of items to try. So you might think walking into this place it's a little hokey with the posters of New York City cabs and subway stop signs on the wall. Yes, well it is called the Big Apple cafe, so you already knew it was going to happen. Atmosphere aside, let's talk about food. Full disclosure, I have only had breakfast and dessert at this restaurant. I described it to my friend as this, and hopefully this will translate. It is like Waffle House meets First Watch, but lacking any pretentiousness at all. They have coconut French toast, and eggs Benedict. You can also have hash and eggs if you're into that. I had the breakfast sandwich. It was a toasted oat bread with eggs, cheese, bacon, and I added lettuce and tomato for an additional $.50. I would recommend the splurge here for lettuce and tomato. It was a semi-basic, but excellently prepared dish, which was 110% fantastic. Our server twisted arms and somehow we ended up with breakfast dessert. They had just gotten in some peanut butter cream puffs, and they were to die for. It was the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal, and paired quite well with my coffee. read more

Great little family diner. Unassuming and a locals go to place for breakfast for sure. Only about 5 min off from Rt 16 it was certainly worth the drive for what turned out to a be a great breakfast.
