I am writing this review in the hope that management will address a long-standing issue at this practice. I have been a patient of Dr. Bui for several years, and I cannot speak highly enough of the medical care. Dr. Bui is fantastic, thorough, and the sole reason I have stayed with this clinic for so long. Unfortunately, the front desk staff makes every visit incredibly frustrating. For years, I have tolerated a consistent lack of professionalism and warmth at the front counter. The staff rarely seems pleasant to work with, and if you ask a simple question, they treat it as though you are causing them a major inconvenience. It is incredibly discouraging to be treated like a burden by the administrative team just to see an excellent physician. Patients deserve to be greeted with basic courtesy and respect. I highly recommend the doctor, but the practice desperately needs to invest in customer service training for their front desk staff. read more

I was referred to Dr. Khong by my optometrist. It took 3 phone calls to get someone to speak with me about scheduling. When I arrived for my appointment the receptionist was disrespectful and curt. I wasn't seen until 52 minutes after my scheduled appointment. I really liked Dr. Khong however she prescribed a medication for my eyes that is only available by mail. The pharmacy and myself have left numerous messages for them to call the pharmacy to discuss. It's been 5 weeks and nobody has responded. I have a 6 week follow up that I now have to cancel because I haven't been able to obtain the medication to see if it will help. Short of driving to their office and requesting to speak with Dr. Khong (which I will not do), I will have to decide if I will wait until they reach her or find a new doctor. What a waste of time. read more

Dr. Lowry and his staff especially Carolina are exceptional in every way. Dr Lowry is knowledgeable, kind and thorough. He is calm, makes his patient feel that he will spare no effort to do everything that he can possibly do to make the correct diagnosis and therefore be able to provide the correct treatment. I was seeing Dr. Khong for a number of years and she is a good doctor. Friendly, caring and thorough. The front staff and the billing department however, is just like what other reviewers have mentioned. Namely, Jacqueline in the billing department. She was constantly arguing about insurance issues even if there were no issues to argue about she would make it up then you end up having to call your insurance who then tell me everything is fine. But when you call Jaqueline about it she won't believe you, then she would have to call the insurance for herself. So a lot of back and forth which take time, but she seemed to enjoy to keep you waiting, having the ball in her court so to speak. Last I heard she doesn't work there anymore. read more

Dr. Bui and his staff are wonderful and I feel they truly care about my wellbeing. He has a tremendous memory, and recalls my husband and asks after my daughter when I see him--he cares for the whole person, not just the eyes, establishing a real relationship with his clientele. Went to see Dr. Bui for cataract surgery. Opted to get multi vision lens to see distance, mid range, and close up WITHOUT needing any glasses. One lens replaced in November, the 2nd in February. Fantastic doctor and results. Highly recommend this doctor for his excellent knowledge and skills. read more

Dr. Bui is a very nice doctor but the front staff are unprofessional and rude. Had to reschedule a procedure and was asked to leave a message for a coordinator that never called back. Went to the office in person asking for a follow up and they rudely stated that no call back unless I paid them money. No apology for not getting back to me, when I never refused to pay. The coordinator put the blame on me for not paying them money and was not apologetic. I thought me calling was enough to let them know I want to pay and reschedule but I guess it wasn't. Patient care is very important and specially to elderly patient, it's sad the poor treatment. I would take my business elsewhere. All they care about it getting paid. read more

My Family is NEVER returning to this practice ever again. We have never been treated so curtly as Thuy who was asked by Dr Lowry to fit my son for glasses. She was short and abrupt. You could tell she was DYING to get out of work for the day. ZERO customer service or pleasantries. Dr Lowry never once introduced himself to my son, the patient, or me and spoke towards his computer than us. Dr Lowry could tell by our patient intake form that my son is 13 and it was his first visit, yet I had to ask Dr Lowry to please explain to my son why he needed to use numbing drops, what it means to dilate your eyes, and what he was looking for. Most physicians know that children are generally unaware of medical terminology and procedures, and need to understand what and why something they have never encountered before needs to be done. We ALL feel more comfortable that way as patients. Sorry folks, you lost our business. We will take our Family elsewhere. read more

I just had a cataract surgery performed by Dorothy P. Khong yesterday, Monday, May 8, 2023 and had my first follow-up this morning, May 9, 2023. I could say I was fully satisfied with the result. Prior to the procedure it was fully explained to me and almost all my inquiries and expectations were met. I highly recommend the doctor for being professional and treatment of her patient is beyond my expectation. I am still waiting for the final outcome of the result maybe in about 2 to 4 weeks and I could honestly say now that it would be great and with not even an apprehension for ANY negative result. read more

Dr David Bui performed cataracts surgery's on one eye and 2 weeks later the other eye. The results are nothing short of stunning. Although Doctor Taylor was knowledgeable and helpful. The trying to schedule appointments and working with the front office was horrible. Waiting times are typically 30 minutes after your scheduled appointment. The doctors and staff frequently step out during your exam to see other patients - turning a routine check up into an hour long appointment. It is difficult to get ahold of the office via phone - they frequently put you on hold and somehow the line disconnects or the after hours message is left on well after opening and before closing. They are also overbooked and typically only have appointments 3-4 weeks out - even when you have an emergency allergic reaction! read more

When my eye Dr retired in the middle of the pandemic I was referred to Alameda Eye Physicians. Glad this was the case, the office has several doctors to choose from. I would like to give a special thanks to Thuy the optician. Her patience and knowledge of all the glasses to choose from is excellent. This review is for Dr. Taylor. A year and a half ago I made an appointment to see a doctor, any doctor, at this location. It had been awhile since I had had an eye exam - I am a glasses wearer and was overdue for a prescription - but I had also had some dryness issues, which enabled me to ask for a medical exam as opposed to just a vision exam. I was excited about this at the time, because it meant my insurance was more likely to cover it. I was assigned to Dr. Taylor, who I had never met before. Dr. Taylor looked at my eyes, and looked some more, and then got some special lenses out to look further at my right eye. Finally, she told me there was something concerning on my eye, and she was referring me to an ocular oncologist. This was such a rare occurrence that it took the ladies behind the desk ten minutes to figure out how to even accomplish the referral. It turns out Dr. Taylor was not wrong. There was something strange in my eye. It was a very rare eye cancer called an ocular melanoma. Many people have similar looking, benign freckles in their eye. These spots grow slowly, and are so rarely dangerous, that most doctors would not have thought twice about it. As it turns out, mine was not benign, and was located such that it was likely to spread to other organs if unchecked. Thanks to Dr. Taylor, I was seen by a specialist at UCSF in a timely fashion, before the cancer had spread. The oncologist tells me that my long term prognosis is exceptionally good, because I was sent to him so unusually early. So, thank you Dr. Taylor. My life is better, and potentially longer, than it would have been if I had never met you. read more

I have medical anxieties galore, so you can be sure I dread any kind of test or procedure. No worries with Dr. Bui of Alameda Eye Physicians. He is simply is simply the best. His educational credentials are impeccable; he teaches at the prestigious UCSF School of Optometry, his manner is calm and reassuring, and he has always been on time for my appointments. He called me at home on a Sunday when I thought I might have had an issue with a surgical incision (there was no problem, I was just being nervous.) The front office is good about getting impromptu appointments, as needed. He is my ophthalmologist as well as my ophthalmological surgeon. My blepharoplasty went without a hitch, with perfect results both medically and cosmetically. He has performed successful and uneventful cataract surgery on my husband and several friends. This review is long overdue! Several months ago, out of nowhere, my eye was in excruciating pain. I went to urgent Care, who said it was likely a scratched cornea but they stressed I had to see a real opthalmologist the next day. I called Alameda Eye Physicians as soon as they opened and they very graciously fit me in within a matter of hours. When I woke up the next day in even more pain, again they fit me in immediately. Turned out my iris was inflamed, which is rare if there has been no physical trauma to the eye. Dr. Khong even suggested I get some blood work up done to rule out some comorbidities. Dr. Khong even called me in the evening to see if my eye pain had subsided and if I was feeling better. I think this is the first time a Dr. has called me after office hours just to check up on me. Also, every single one of the front desk people were courteous, friendly, compassionate and quick. I feel so grateful that I happened upon this practice in my time of need! read more

I love the doctors here and think they are some of the best, but the rest of the office needs to up its game, after a considerable wait time when I was in with the physician a staff member knocked on the door and interrupted my exam to ask a routine question about another patient, really? The hot water knob in the patient bathroom has a broken sign not to use, at first thought it was temporary but it has been like this every time I come, does not seem that difficult to call out a local plumber and get it fixed. The rest of the office looks worn and tired, needs to be updated. Also, it is unusual in a doctor's office to not have staff wear name tags, would be helpful. Again, I have complete confidence in the physicians but wish the office was a little more professional. read more
