My boyfriend and I recently went to Alameda Eyes Optometry (AEO), with prescriptions from our ophthalmologist, to find him a new pair of glasses and update the prescription in my current frames. We went to AEO because they were local, have Saturday hours, and had a good Yelp review. The service was friendly and the staff very helpful; the ladies there were forthcoming with their opinions on the look of different frames, and were great at helping to find additional frames to try that met our style and our budget. Once we had decided on the frames, our purchase, with insurance, was handled quickly and efficiently. I would definitely recommend AEO and will return there in the future. read more

I would not recommend this office. Overall my experience with them has been very difficult. They have been hard to get in touch with and difficult to work with. It took a series of emails and phone calls to get them to give me my Rx and itemized receipts, which I needed for insurance reasons. They get frustrated when you don't purchase glasses from them, which I can't do because of how marked-up the prices are. The Dr. is lacks professionalism. Not going back :/ read more

With better than 20/20 vision, I've not visited the optometrist (ever!) so I didn't exactly know what to expect. Walking into this office it seemed transparent enough, with glass and mirrors everywhere. Kinda nice and definitely festive for the holiday season. The initial series of tests went well and the girls at the desk were quite friendly. Headed to the back where a knowledgeable doctor resided. I kinda liked him. He cracked a few jokes that went over my head, but what the hell.....The series of tests went on and then I realized something. I read great reviews about this office and was even referred by a personal friend, but somehow I just wasn't feelin' the love! As a first timer, the doctor never told me his name nor was I asked mine. Didn't shake my hand nor bid me a good day. This is the spot to find totally cute glasses and sunglasses, and Dr. Hansson is everything you want in an optometrist. He's smart, quirky and very knowledgeable...he even convinced me to switch to new Daylies contacts which are by far the best I've ever had. They come in super quick to the office and they text me when they arrive. He also hooked me up with some samples to get me through to my next shipment (we all know forgetting to order and running out SUCKS). They have a great selection of Kate Spade glasses including sunglasses (as well as many other great brands) and the staff is super helpful when you're trying them on. I have been going to Dr. Britt for several years. I have been at both offices in Alameda and every time, I have gone there their service was superb. The support staff is always nice, accommodating and they answer my questions or, if needed, they have directed me to Dr. Britt. Dr. Britt without exception has always been concerned, thorough, caring, and funny. Even after my LASIC surgery did not go as initially hoped, and Dr. Britt was my follow up doctor, he scheduled appointments as frequently as they were needed and answered all my questions. I went to Alameda Eyes given very good but few reviews on Yelp. The store looked nice, and they were very helpfull in aiding me to choose the appropriate lenses. Finally I settled for 2 pairs. the first pair were my sunglasses, they came out OK. a On the second pair they took 2.5 weeks to deliver (they were supposed to take only 5-7days), when they did arrive they were the wrong size and the wrong color, although the correct model and prescription. When I told them they were a different color, they tried to convince me that black was blue, untill I grabbed a pair of lenses that were blue (in the same model of course) and they run out of arguments. A minute after the manager who was standing on the side said they are the same color but that the one on the shelf is worn down. Whatt!! they are so crappy that they will change colors by just sitting there. I decided not to pursue the change in size, since I didn't want to talk to them any more and compromise with the change in color and write this negative feedback instead. Wrong size, wrong color 2 weeks longer than expected and the customer is wrong. Just go somewhere else. Plus their selection is actually small. I also think that many of the 5 stars around were written by the people in the store themselves. read more

I am so glad I found Dr. Britt!! I was very nervous about going to the optometrist because of a bad experience with another optometrist several years ago. When I met with Dr. Britt, he listened to my concerns about the glaucoma test and assured me that he would make sure I was conformable during the procedure. True to his word, the test proceeded without incident (I was SO relived!!!). Overall I had a GREAT experience visiting Alameda Eyes Optometry. I would definitely recommend them. Now living in San Jose surrounded by optometry offices, I'll continue with this office in Alameda. The entire office is really nice and helpful. They made sure I understood what my insurance covered before my exam. The exam was very thorough and Dr. Hansson took his time explaining everything in detail. Eyes with astigmatism are unique and sometimes takes more than one pair to find the right brand and fit. He made a great recommendation during my last visit, which saved me money and my new lenses are way more comfortable. They have a wide variety of glasses to choose from too. I bought lenses and frames at Lenscrafters some years ago. I went back recently after I stepped on them and popped a lens out. They were unable to fix the frame to accommodate the lens and told me the only solution was to buy a new pair of glasses. I then went to Alameda Eyes where I received excellent service to repair the frame and reinsert the lens. The technician had to spend at least a half-hour trying various screws and finally was able to use a tiny bolt to do the job. I was only charged a nominal fee for the bolt and no labor charge! I was extremely pleased with competent and friendly service and plan to return when I have a future optical need. read more

I came to Alameda Eyes after they provided my mother with great service last year, so I brought my family with me. Cute and trendy place with GREAT selection of frames. To match the frames, the ladies that worked behind the counter were hotties if that makes any difference =-). These gals were well trained,informative, and extremely helpful. They seemed very interested in finding the right frame for me and my family and gave us honest advice. They were more like a friend you brought along with you shopping, instead of a pushy sales person. The manager, Pamela (I believe it was) gave me the best customer service I've received in my years being a shopper! From the time I called to make my appointment to the time I picked up of my glasses, her welcoming bubbly personality and extraordinary customer service always remained high. I even joked about how she remained so happy and energetic on a daily basis because i wanted whatever she was taking. I'd give 0 stars if possible. I came to this place as Dr. Chin the Optometrist on Park St., across the street from Alameda Eyes, suggested I go there as I wanted higher end specs. So I went in and as I was looking at specs in the lighted case against the wall, then the lady with grossly permed like short curly hair got up from behind her desk behind the counter and walked over to the case and switched off the lights! I couldn't believe it. I asked if there was something wrong or if they were closing. She said "sorry, were you looking' and I gave her a funny look as it was obvious I was looking, and I replied "yes" and she said "I can turn the lights back on if you want". By then I was annoyed by the rude and poor service by her and said "no, thanks" and said "we are closing for lunch but we will be open at 2pm if you want to come back then.". I replied, "sure, I'll be back" but not to that stinking place! Poorly permed curly hair lady kicked me out and told me to return at 2pm! Unbelievable. Don't give this place your business. I've been going the AEO for 20 years now and have always had great service. However just recently I had brought in a prescription for new glasses that was done by another Doctor. It turns out that when I got my glasses back they were not the correct prescription. The Doctor took me in the back and gave me a complete eye exam and he verified that the prescription was wrong. He wrote out a new prescription and told me that they would redo the glasses. All this at no additional cost? This is a classy guy. read more

I had ordered prescription glasses from this store on 17th December and it's 17th January now and i am still waiting for the Glasses to be ready from the lab that they work with. I was told that it would be 7-10 business days. I have been calling them every week since the 10 days have passed and they keep giving me a new ETA every time. I am very disappointed with this Service as i had ordered the prescription glasses for a trip i was taking in 1st Week of January and i still don't have the glasses. They missed all their previous ETA, now i am just hopeful that they will finally work on my Prescription Glasses and give it to me instead of the excuses. Wow this office is amazing! Dr Hansson is so thorough and professional, I really feel confident in his clinical abilities. He has all of the most state of the art equipment and it makes it really easy and fun to get your exam. After my exam I got to try on so many glasses and have so much fun, it felt like I had my own team of personal shoppers. I liked them so much that I actually am going to go back and get another pair of glasses later on. It just so happened that the glasses I really liked were almost fully covered by my insurance, I hardly had to pay out of pocket! Pretty awesome, but I really want the nicer quality ones next time. Alameda Eyes is amazing! I suffer from chronic eye issues and recently my eyes took a turn for the worst. I called around to a bunch of different optometry office to get a vision exam, but everyone was booked for weeks. I called Alameda Eyes and not only were the girls super nice on the phone, but I was able to get an appointment the next a time that worked best for me! And Dr. Britt is awesome! He was funny and very knowledgeable of my eye condition, didn't make me feel like a freak of nature and offered to adjust my prescription once the inflammation the back of my eye clears up because he knew that the prescription would change in a couple of months. And the girls in the office were so sweet. They took the time to explain how my medical coverage works and helped me frame styles.
