The one downside is that the theatre doesn't take tap to pay or cash but nothing too bad. All in all, great place and friendly staff.

The subject matter of the play was interesting, and the cast did a great job. At the end of the play one of the actors said"to the gringos in the audience" and stuck his middle finger up then stated "up yours". This was uncalled for and a very rude gesture to any white people in the audience. One of the male speakers after the show was evidently a dreamer who has had years to have become a citizen, but has not and bashes this country where he has had achieved hinges he may not have achieved had his family been deported. He kept stressing that he is not allowed to vote which is a civil duty of legal citizens. Too bad he turned it into the liberal agenda.

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is living proof that there is still a need for the arts in our city and that local grassroots businesses can still thrive here. I went to the Cine-festival on this night, to catch a movie about masked wrestlers and then a full length feature movie. The venue is really nice, looks like a theater from days of old. It's pretty bare bones. One of the caveats here is the parking situation. When they have music, theatrical or cine events the parking situation can prove to be hairy here. You can park alongside the theater, like most patrons do to avoid the dirt way parking provided by the theater. My advice is to get there super early so you can get the best parking and also seating for any event. The last minute stragglers are usually the ones you hear gasping, sighing or rolling their eyes. But like the old adage, which is the case with most situations, "the early bird does indeed get the worm." Another bit of concern and contention are the concession prices. On this day I bought a bucket of popcorn smaller than the one you would get a the Regal for 8 bucks. And on top of that the brewskies are not cheap here either. But my understanding is that most of those monies go back into funding the center, so buy at least one thing, it will be for a good cause. The seating is kinda interesting too. Since it wavers between a venue for music and movies your view can be obstructed. And if you are a shorty like me, it just takes some tall Flint-stone headed person to ruin your experience. Again, choose your seating wisely; get there early to prevent this. Given all this you say why do I give it a 5 star rating? Because unlike other venues this is really an intimate setting to see entertainment. Big name producers, filmmakers clammer to get their films shown here. On this night I saw David Riker's excellent film, "The Girl". What made this night truly special is a few seats away the director was checking out the movie with the rest of the audience. It made the experience that much greater. What was also a nice touch is that after the Q and A, the theater allows you to speak to the director. Other events I have been to in the past prohibit any interaction with directors or entertainers. The vibe of the theater allows you to enjoy the event up-close and personal. They truly take the experience of the patron to heart and value that relationship. While there are still some cultural venues in our city we actually need more like this one. When the arts dies in this city, its unique spirit will leave also. Think Globally. Support Locally.

Cheap concessions, cheap tickets, minimal ads, and a good display. I love a cute local theater and it's great to see them show the big movies in a small theater. I went tonight with my parents, who were given a box seat, to see Toy Story 5. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our seats in the box and given a menu. The usher got us our popcorn and drinks and was attentive. The popcorn is that classic popcorn I love, and it was a great price for the tub. Tickets typically are $9, and the concessions prices aren't too shabby either. For 3 drinks and the popcorn tub, it was $20, which is a steal compared to your majors. My mom wasn't sold on the theater before we went vs a chain, but after attending, she wants to go every weekend. It's a great addition to this small town. RIYL: big screens in the small town

The seats are very comfortable, a little tall so it's harder to see if you are on the shorter side. They do have bins that can be placed on the seats as a booster but I'd bring a pillow or something instead, it would be more comfortable. Beware: they will call you on stage and make you participate no matter how embarrassing the scene may be!!! Shows here are BYOB. Come prepared with a cooler full of your finest box wine and Lone Star Light, it's only fitting. I saw Shock Puppets Strike Back! and laughed myself into a fantastic ab workout! I'm the type of girl who easily turns red (darn you, pheomelanin!) and many of the jokes left me a shade of crimson that would make you think I was a Sooner instead of a Longhorn. Don't worry, Texas fans, I bleed burnt orange no matter what my red hair and skin may lead you to believe! A quick show review: Shock Puppets is hilarious. Some skits fell a bit short, but overall, I couldn't even sit up straight from the giggles. My favorite skit was the "Key Party." So well-played, unexpected, and fantastic. This is a small theatre, tucked in the corner of a strip center, upstairs…read more I read a blurb in The Current about a play called Alice and the MK-Ultra Experiment....and it sounded like something different to do on a Saturday night, so a friend and I went to check it out. The small theatre space meant we were close to the action. The play was written and directed by the theatre owners, a cool married couple. This particular play was well-acted (melodramatic, maybe, but it fit), and I liked the use of video footage and wacky scenes projected on the black set to portray Alice's dream sequences and acid trips. If nothing else, it was entertaining. We opted to "upgrade" to the Shock Puppets show afterward, and I'm glad we did. Decidedly politically incorrect sock puppets and their human counterparts put on a sketch show....with some incredibly funny moments. There are some great silly personalities in this troop -- I'll be back to see what they do and say in the next installment. I have to admit I haven't done a lot of local, homegrown comedy (embarrassed to say I never did OxyMorons), so maybe there's better out there.... but they had us lively and laughing......and I wasn't even taking advantage of the BYOB policy. Only 3 stars so I don't overhype it'. Go check 'em out....support some local talent!

27 May 2023 The 2023…read morepresentation is pretty good. Holding it at the downtown UTSA campus serves it well. The green space outside of what I'll call the student union building (SUB) was put to good use. A few food trucks lined the north side, the main stage was to the south, with a smaller ground-level stage in front of it and a martial arts demonstration area was to the west, just outside the SUB. The main stage had two large screens on either side, so all could see the performers. We saw Betty Soo and her band from Austin. They were terrific. She has a fairly large band and her voice is great to listen to. Many food vendors were present along the east side. Hawaiian, Chinese. Godai was there serving three different sushi rolls and squid salad. Yum. We got spicy crab rolls. One of the garage levels also housed several food vendors. Sari Sari was there, as was Sichuan House. A booth was making fresh lemonade. Kettle corn, of course. Yum. A large tent in the green space was for the non-food vendors: clothes, hats, purses, jewelry and various trinkets. I found some Croc charms that I can use on my Casetify Pushin phone case. Three for $5. Not bad. Cool stuff. You could tell that UTSA put some serious thought into the layout and it turned out well. Plenty of shade and benches, tables throughout. They must have a print shop. The signs identifying each vendor were uniform and easy to read. Bonuses were free water (several stations) and the restrooms in the SUB were open to the public. The SUB was open anyway until 5pm. Coffee could be bought at the coffee station. It's never too hot for coffee. Ha, ha. The alcohol situation was interesting. Individual kegs were found along the walkways and you just bought from them. We hope the festival stays here. Go next year.
