Recently visited this new Alamo to watch Wakanda Forever. Our overall experience was great! I was surprised at the number of staff working and was a bit distracted with them in and out the aisles during the movie, albeit it was a 3-hr movie. Our popcorn was hot and served in a steel mixing bowl - I wasn't expecting that. My date had to ask for bottled water 3x before they got it right (sparking and tap would not work), but they surely got the check right. I love the parking garage is close and validated (free on weekends). I will certainly visit again. read more

Not at all impressed. "Pretentious" is the first word that comes to mind to describe this place. Checked this movie theater out for the first time tonight to watch Wakanda Forever (Black Panther 2). Usually hard to find parking in this area, but there's an underground garage under the movie theater that has free parking after 4 pm and on weekends. Plenty of parking was available even on a late Friday night, which was great. IMO, my ticket was overpriced (nearly $23 after taxes and fees) for "The Big Show" movie theater option, which I guess is supposed to be a big screen rival of IMAX. I'll say the screen and sound quality were very good, though probably not worth the extra $$$ I spent on the ticket... would probably just do standard screen if I could do it over again. So I guess at Alamo you're supposed to order food/drinks at your seat using the pen and paper provided at every seat and then 1) wait for one of the servers to pick up your handwritten order, then 2) wait for the server to bring you your order. This process I didn't like AT ALL - I strongly prefer already having my food and drink in hand once I first sit down. Got to my seat about 20 minutes before the movie began and wrote my order down on one of the pieces of paper they give you 5 minutes later. Took 10-15 minutes for a server to pick up my paper order (eventually had to get a server's attention by waving them down - I did have the button they ask you to press to alert the server of an order pressed but it was like no one noticed) and then another 10-15 minutes for them to actually bring my order. Walking to the concessions counter and standing in line to order food/drinks has never in my life taken nearly as long as it took to get food delivered to my seat tonight. What's doubly (or triply) annoying is the servers are constantly walking through the aisles the whole time taking and bringing orders, which is extremely distracting as you're watching the movie. There's a massive hypocrisy in Alamo's policy to not allow late entry for ticketholders who arrive to the theater late so as not to cause distractions, yet have several servers going back and forth through the aisles, verbally communicating with customers about their order throughout the entire movie... that all seems to be much more of a distraction than a few moviegoers who arrive late could ever be. Had the Bottomless Popcorn, which was good, but IMO not worth the $10 cost. The list of semi-gourmet food and alcohol offerings (including boozed shakes) was impressive I must admit. And as a beer drinker, I very much appreciated the wide variety of craft beers they had on tap. Personally ordered the Bell's Two Hearted Ale, which is one of my favorite IPAs. Towards the end of the movie, the server came back again to ask me for a credit card to pay the bill (while I was focusing on watching the movie) . Feel like they could've asked for that when I first ordered, before the movie started. Just more distraction. Between the tickets, food, and drink, ended up spending around twice as much as I would've typically spent at a standard movie theater for what I thought was an inferior experience. I guess I'm more of a no-frills, simple kind of guy. If you like being waited on and are interested in checking out a fancier movie theater with fancy food/drink options, this might be the place for you. But, again, there was a pretentious vibe about this place that I didn't care for. $5 Tuesdays at the local movie theater are more my speed I guess. Wakanda Forever was a really good movie though. Was able to enjoy it despite my criticisms here. But doubt I'll come back even though Alamo is within walking distance from where I live... read more

Seriously 11/10 experience. The people working at 6pm on a Friday night are super friendly and helpful. I really appreciate how the bartender, T (if I remember correctly), explained how happy hour works, how we order food to our seats, and how early you can sit. I definitely recommend getting to the movie early to hang out in the lounge. It's a really open spot right off the main lobby. Lots of seating, really chill vibes, and good food. The pickle fries were good and SOOOO many beers on tap. Also the churro popcorn is delicious. Oh and the pretzel is really good. Everything we ordered was good!!! I am so grateful to have this theater in my backyard. I will definitely be back!!! read more

They serve you, there is a bar AND they have happy hour specials... the seats recline as if you are being cradled by your mother herself. A great place to come and catch a movie. I recently came for the second Black Panther movie and enjoyed my time at Alamo from start to finish. There was a nice bar to enjoy while waiting for friends. A clean and spacious theater. And an easily accessible parking garage. But of course my favorite part of this theater is the ability to order food and drinks directly at your seat. Unfortunately there were not many servers in our theater so it took a while to place our orders and receive the food, but that's understandable. Still worth visiting. read more

Best theatre chain, period. Where else can one sit in a comfortable chair, have an old fashioned, fresh fish and chips or burgers, unlimited popcorn, and they actually enforce their policies (what we used to take for granted and was called "manners") no talking or texting, etc! No hassles, just like Trader Joe's: no questions asked refunds! You can cancel your ticket up to one hour prior to the show. Don't give your $ to other movie chains where they don't enforce no talking/texting and you always feel like you were taken advantage of: super high prices and lots of distractions and hassles. read more

We have been to the one in DC as well. We prefer this one only because it's closer to your home. The seats on the back row ( only row we have tired) are deeper. Weird but it goes down and back which is danger when tired because sleep comes fast! Lol Food is okay, but it's the movies. We normally just get popcorn. I will say the bottomless option only works if you can truly eat the size of popcorn they provide! Service is quick and helpful. read more

I came here to see cocaine bear with a friend. We had a lot of time to waste, so we visited the bar. We where extremely impressed with how creative they made the space and you kind of felt like a bit of upscale lol. We had a blast with the down to earth bartenders and they were quite entertaining. This place gives you a warm feeling, whether it be date night or family time. Alamo is the theater I like coming too because I'm comfortable and it feel clean. Also, I went to the Woodbridge, Va location and it gave the same feel, for me that says a-lot. Highly recommend. read more

I went here with a group last night to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and left extremely frustrated. I've been to the Alamo Drafthouse locations in Loudon and Woodbridge previously and really enjoyed both so I was excited to check out the newer (and much closer to my home) Crystal City location for the first time. After my experience last night I will definitely be sticking to Loudon or Woodbridge moving forward. I ordered food and a drink when I got inside the theater. My order came right as the movie started and everything was going well. About halfway through the movie I finished my drink and tried to request a refill. I waited for over an hour to get the attention of the servers inside the theater despite many attempts to flag them down. Throughout that time the server for my row grabbed orders from several other nearby guests and completely ignored me to the point that others in my group were laughing and shaking their heads at the ridiculousness of it. When I finally got someone's attention I waited another 20-30 minutes to actually receive the drink. By that time there was only a few minutes left in the movie so there wasn't really any point anymore. I'm happy to pay more to see a movie at Alamo Drafthouse instead of AMC because I love the overall experience and the convenience of having food and drinks delivered to your seat. That wasn't the case for me last night. It's a shame because the theater itself is one of the nicest I've been to in the area and the food was delicious, but the service was so poor it took away from the movie. read more

Visited this theater for the first time and had a good experience. Clean, great customer service, good food and drinks. Had the omnivore pizza, a pretzel, fish and chips and chocolate chip cookies. Everything was good except the cookies. Although they were freshly made they tasted like sugar free cookies. Sweet but like sugar free sweet...if that makes sense. LOL And you couldn't tell the difference between the cookie and the chocolate, as far as taste goes. We barely ate 2. The cookies at the DC theater are much better. My only gripe was that the theater was too cold. We had to keep our coats on the entire time. Parking is free after 4 during the week and I think on weekends. read more

I think it deserves a solid 4 stars. Our chicken tenders and fries were hot and crispy (although a tad flavored like older oil...) the vegan burger was a nice option, and the wings were solid. Our cocktail was AWESOME - it was just lime juice / tequila / sparkling water - NO sugar which is how we prefer it. I LOVED a sugar free option ! Next time we want to try bottomless popcorn :). Chairs were comfy and CLEAN - screen and sound were perfect. We will definitely return. Especially for shows in theater 1. The food is really good and there movie party's were really fun and immersive is great for kids

My husband and I live near this theater and we visit it at least twice a month since it opened. So we have quite some experience with this place. Overall the food is good if you are okay with the price. Most burgers I had were good. My husband said sometimes the pizzas are not good. And most of the times, the service is okay. Even when you don't order anything waiters can still bring you a cup of water, which is nice. However what I experienced last Saturday makes me very angry and decided to leave this review. And interestingly I just found out all of the one star reviews are about the service. What happened was, my husband and I both ordered food, as for drinks, he ordered coke and I asked for a cup of water. Usually when we order drinks together, waiters bring them together. Not this time. The waitress brought my husband's coke and the sprite the lady sitting next to me ordered. I waited for a long time for my water, and eventually we pushed the button again to ask for my husband's refill and my water. She came and listened to us. And disappeared on us. We waited and waited, pushed the button again. A waiter showed up with my husband's refill. I was super thirsty after eating all the fries and my burger. We asked him to bring me the water, for the third time. We waited and waited, no one showed up. So I pushed the button and the waitress finally showed up, and I had to ask for the fourth time. A few minutes before the movie ended, I finally got my water. TLDR: the waitress brought everyone else's food and drinks. But kept not bringing my water until the end of the movie after my fourth attempt of asking for it. I feel like this is personal because why would they repeatedly remember to bring my husband's drinks and keep forgetting mine? There was another time when my husband and I both ordered food, and they brought my husband's order quickly, and completely forgot to bring mine, and still charged us for the food I ordered. We had to talk to them to take that off the check. I have to say we will still go back to watch movies but next time I would be very hesitate to order anything. read more

My kids loved this experience. The staff were very nice and attentive. The seats were comfortable. It was very hot when we went. The food isn't great and they up charge for everything. I mean everything. Want croutons on your Cesar salad? That'll be fifty cents. Want the churro popcorn to come with what it states on the menu? They'll charge for the churro pieces and cinnamon. Coming here with my better half was so much fun! Truly enjoyed the ambiance. The other patrons were respectful and weren't obnoxious when order their food and drinks or interrupting the movie by being on their phones excessively. The food was decent bar style food and a nice change from the regular popcorn, pizza, hotdogs vibe. Service was great and the wait staff was very attentive when you pressed your button. The theater was clean. The movie was great and I got to cozy up with my blanket and still had plenty of room for my food. I highly recommend trying this place out! read more

Great facility with decent food, but unfortunately the worst service in the industry! My wife and I made our second visit to Alamo last weekend for a movie on the "Big Show". Our first experience was great but the most recent trip changed our mind about the place completely and we likely won't be going back. We got to our seats about 25 minutes prior to the show, looked at our menus, wrote our order on their form, and pushed the call button. After waiting about 10 minutes we flagged a waiter down and they said that they couldn't take our order but would find our server. After waiting another 10 minutes we flagged down a different server and asked to give them our order, once again they said that they couldn't take our order and would let our server know. After waiting 30 minutes with no one taking our order, I went to the front ticket counter to see if the manager could take our order. I was greeted with the same apathy from the servers as well as the manager that she was sorry about the wait, asked for my seat number, and said our server would be right there. Finally after 45 minutes of waiting and well into the movie, someone came over to take our order and while she's taking our order a different server comes up to say that we're his section (meanwhile the movie is playing behind them). We waited another 45 minutes for one of our two meals to show and then another 15 minutes for the other. They have a broken F&B service system at this location and the fact that you politely ask other servers to take your order because yours is no where to be found but they and the manager can't do anything about it is completely ridiculous. If a server abandoned a table at a restaurant for 45 minutes, I'm certain a restaurant manager or other server would wait on the patrons. Unfortunately, they had a captive audience with a show and we couldn't just walk out like at a restaurant. They've got a great product, but unfortunately they won't survive with terrible F&B service and customer service. read more

Went to see Conclave yesterday, first time customer. The seating is great and the food is good (love that they have gluten free items!), but OUCH the volume was way too high during the previews. And before the movie previews they played a range of Pope-themed clips, several of which were juvenile or offensive (and I'm not Catholic!), at ear splitting volume. I went to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Crystal City to see Barbie and was overall impressed. There had been a bad storm so the elevators and escalators weren't working so there was a lot of stairs to walk up. I found the staff at the box office to be very helpful. As I went to get my ticket scanned, the employee informed me that if you already purchased tickets you can just go straight to the theatre. I really liked that seeing my best friend wasn't there yet and I didn't have to wait around for her and could go straight to be my seat. The leather chairs were super comfortable but I felt like they could be bigger. The procedure is write down what you want on the paper, put the paper in the slot then press the button for service. I found that my button nor the seat next to me buttons were working so we had to flag down someone to help us. I only ordered M&M's and a glass of wine and that seemed to take forever. Also, I wasn't familiar with how the tipping worked and gave a cash tip to the person that brought out my items and he took it as opposed to telling me, oh you will get a receipt at the end of the movie where you can add tip. Lastly, it can be noisy if the attendant taking the orders is doing so after the preview and movies have started but still I would definitely go back. Went to see The Color Purple on 12/26/23. This was my first time at this theater. The menu looked good. The issue was it took forever for food to arrive. The servers are constantly moving throughout the theater delivering items to people. It's a bit of a distraction. The big shocker was how much I was charged for my bottled water, over $6. I had mozzarella sticks as well. I'm sun I spent an additional $20 on food. Take ur parking ticket from the garage next door to get validated. That way you get free parking which is always a plus. The seats recline. The theater is spacious and clean. Taking advantage of it being a dinner theater is just pricey. And again, my food took considerably long to come out just being miserable sticks, an appetizer. You can also to download their app to order food online. I had trouble with that & just looked at the menu online & ordered from the sheet provided at my seat. It's not Intuitive, but once you complete your order on paper, you press a button at your seat & wait for a server to come get your order. And even that process took a long time. read more

I have been to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema several times since it opened and continued to be disappointed in the service and food at the bar on the second floor. Several months ago I was the only customer and ordered a Caesar salad and had to wait 40 minutes for my order. Yesterday at 5:00 I was the only customer at the bar ordering food. There were five others who had ordered beers and had been served. I ordered a Sierra Nevada IPA which was on the menu but which they didn't have, chips and dip and a Caesar salad with chicken after waiting ten minutes. When I placed my order I had to provide a credit card. I have lived in the Waterpark Towers on Crystal Drive for over 23 years and regularly use all the bars and restaurants and am never required to provide a credit card in advance. It isn't as if the bar was packed with patrons which it was not. It then took 15 minutes for my order to be delivered. When it was delivered the waiter didn't provide eating utensils for the salad. When I was able to get his attention he "forgot" about it and I had to attempt to get his attention to finally get a folk. The Caesar Salad was one of the worse that I have ever had. It also had no dressing. When I complained after again having to get his attention he said he would correct it. He didn't and I had to again get his attention. The additional dressing was about a tablespoon in a small plastic cup of Russian dressing. The final bill had also added an additional charge for "extra" dressing. I could eat at Morton's Steak House or Ruth Chris's and pay half as much for a real Caesar Salad and received real professional service. Went here with the boyfriend for the first time and I will definitely be coming back! We went during the week so it was nice and quiet. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Alamo Drafthouse Crystal City was cool! My boyfriend and I chose to go there to see a movie as we were told that it is a nice theater. He purchased the tickets online and added them to his wallet. This place is very nice and decorated with movie memorabilia all over the place. We were offered assistance by one of the nice employees on how to find our theater. We sat in our purchased seats and took a look at the menu. The menu was ok, a little bit more upscale, Ie: wings, pretzels, burgers pizza. We ordered the pickle fries and the thai chili wings along with a chicken caesar salad and a bottomless popcorn along with soft drinks. The food was just ok. I wasn't impressed. My boyfriend was not happy at all as his chicken salad was a little spicy and he hates spicy things. The young lady who helped us was very nice. The process of ordering food or drinks is cool, however, it wasn't the easiest, but I can see how it could be. It is a little odd while viewing the movie. This is a nice theater with a great concept. But it really was nothing to write home about. It's just a movie theater. I probably won't be back to Crystal City to see another movie. I was there for the Taylor Swift Era movie. Theater was clean. Service was decent. I had a pretzel and Coke Zero so not a lot of feedback besides it met expectations. The bathroom got a little jammed up and paper shortage. They were getting hit more than usual, I assume, could be expected. I booked for a movie and arrived 15 mins late the manger really gave me an hard time and said I would be disrupting the guest that arrived on time. I still to this day do not understand how me walking to my seat 15 mins late is any different from someone using the restroom during the movie or someone being served their food during the movie. i was late but me working in the customer service field even when I can't accommodate someone I still maintain a professional tone and always say sorry for the inconvenience. brittney is very unprofessional and needs to be retrained immediately. Not quite ready for prime time. I took my two kids to the Crystal City drafthouse for the Elf movie event. They've gone with me to the DC drafthouse before, and I've been to a few Austin drafthouse locations. While we eventually had a good time, I was left feeling disappointed. We arrived at the theatre ~15 minutes before show time. Our props (a hat, balloon, bell, scratch n sniff, and a plush snowball) were at our seats, so that got everyone into a festive mood. We then proceeded to wait 20 minutes for anyone to come to greet us or take our order (I filled out our order sheet, placed it in the designated area, and pressed the ready button). The theatre was not sold out, but I did see several staff working with other guests and serving food. Yet our three seats, and several others in our aisle, were completely ignored. This isn't the kind of customer service I expect from Alamo, but it was especially frustrating with two hungry kids who were fast losing patience. Finally we flagged down a staffer who offered to take in our orders. I asked her for a copy of the kids menu - I'm familiar with the items, but since they didn't have one on display, I wanted to make sure they had those items since it's a new location. She told me it was in the main menu, and I had to pull it out to show her that is wasn't. She took our order back to the kitchen and said she'd check on the menu. A little while later, a manger (I assume) came out with our order and asked if we'd been greeted by our server yet (at this point, it was almost 25 minutes since we'd arrived and the previews had started). I explained that we hadn't and he said she'd be there shortly. He then tried to put our order slip back on my tray - I was confused. I explained that my kids were getting really hungry and that we'd really like to get our food orders in. He seemed to make an excuse about it being a big event, but other groups were being tended to and the room was not completely full. I asked him about the kids menu and he confirmed they had it and began to list the items. I asked him to add an order of the kids corn dogs to the slip I'd given him and we'd be good to go. So he took the slip back and finally placed the order. Our server (I assume) finally came by several minutes later to get my credit card to put on file. Side note: this was a movie party event. The description stated that there would be games - including a gift "wrap off" before the film. There were no games, just a brief intro by someone in an elf costume explaining when to use our props. A bit of a let down since that's not what was advertised. Our food began to arrive eventually which was great, except they served us TWO orders of the corn dogs when I'd only asked for one. At that point it wasn't worth disrupting the movie experience further, so my kids had some extra food and I sucked up the extra $10. I had to flag down a server after my kids waters (with lids) were delivered - we had no straws. I had to flag a server again after my food (buffalo cauliflower) was delivered - I had no utensils. I love the Alamo experience, but this location has some customer service issues to work out before they can really hold Alamo-caliber events properly. I think I'll stick to regular screenings, not during meal times, for the time being, or just go to the AMC. read more

Decent movie experience, but the food and drink service was barely functioning. -- I was really looking forward to this opening as I love the concept of Alamo Drafthouse. Unfortunately, this location has the EXACT same problems as the DC location. The movie experience itself is decent. But as a restaurant, it's barely functional - this is not a competent food and beverage operation. I ordered bottomless popcorn, a sandwich and a drink. It took over an hour to receive the food, I never got my drink. Even after asking about it four times. I ordered popcorn refills twice - the first refill never arrived. The second showed up around 10 minutes before the movie ended. They also tried to give me the wrong items three times before I got my order. My check was for twice as much as it should have been, and they delivered it at the peak of the movie which was super distracting. And then after the move ended I had to go looking for a manager for 15 minutes trying to get my check corrected. I would like to think they are just going through the growing pains of opening - but this is EXACTLY what has become the norm at the DC location, which has now been open for a long time. The experience between the two was actually incredibly consistent. It would make sense as these two locations are owned by the same franchisee - they aren't owned directly by Alamo Drafthouse. At what other restaurant would it be ok for it to take an hour to get a sandwich, and just not bring the drink, even after asking about it four times?Then get overcharged, and have to hunt someone down for 15 minutes to be able to correct it before you can leave? It's painfully obvious that the staff need to be trained better (or at all), and that the food/drink ordering system does not work as it should. At this point it would be better if they just eliminated the in-seat service completely - it would be much faster and less distracting to order at a counter and bring it to your seat yourself. All of the service staff look bewildered and overwhelmed. There was a constant flow of servers bringing the wrong food items to the wrong people the entire movie, all with the same confused look on their face. This was highly distracting, and people are constantly talking/arguing with the servers as everyone is getting the wrong orders. There are seat numbers attached to every order - how do they constantly get them wrong? At the DC location the management does not care at all about customer complaints, they just shrug. I really hope this location doesn't go down the same road. read more
