Our recent Alamo experience went smoothly, although I'm not a big fan of the "necessary evil" AKA the shuttle bus to the Rental Car Center. I chose a compact SUV, of which there were only 3 left in the lot on pickup - all Mitsubishi. I picked the one with the New Mexico plates and off we went. Alamo staff were their usual friendly and helpful selves, which made any line delays easier. I felt that our rental was a little underpowered, especially when we were heading up to Los Alamos and winding around the Jemez. Past that, our vehicle was roomy, comfortable, and easily carried all or our stuff. read more

The window washer in the vehicle wasn't working. I told them about it and they said they have had issues with that make and model so they took $40 off the bill. I didn't even ask for a discount or even expect one and they were automatic. It was great! Went to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota and back to Albuquerque in it. My boyfriend's mom rented a car from here. I think she got a great deal for use for 9-10 days. We had a nissan altima. It performed pretty decently and was a smooth ride. I'd say the only hiccups were honestly a new generational thing of figuring out cars that have more electronic doo-dads. But sometimes the lights would go on when locking the car. Sometimes the engine would start when unlocking the car. Things like that that generally scare the crap out of you, especially if you're like me and you rarely ever drive anymore. Anyway, we had an emergency when returning to the airport and literally had to drive an hour and a half out of our way and back and were a smidgeon late returning the car and they were totally okay with it and didn't over charge her. So kuddos to the impeccable customer service. Highly recommend. read more

I rented a car from Alamo are the Albequerque airport. There was very minor damage to the grill that was hard to see unless you were looking for it. I missed it in the preinspection. I absolutely did not cause the damage as I took the car from the airport and it sat at a house the entire time before I took it back. But, the person checking the car in found it and I was billed for the damage. I explained to the person at the airport that I did not cause the damage and explained to the person on the phone that I did not cause the damage, but Alamo does not care if you caused the damage. If Alamo didn't catch it before, you're responsible. There are no photos proving that the car was not damaged before I rented it and Alamo does not take photos of the car unless they find damage. This issue was so minor that it could easily have been missed by others. I will never use Alamo again. read more

Great Alamo location with excellent staff and customer service! I had a car rental scheduled but ended up needing to pick it up a couple hours early. It was no problem especially because I was also able to return it early on my last day! No extra charge for the changes and just had to wait for the lady at the desk to change and complete the paperwork. When I took my adjusted contract out to the parking lot, I was basically given a free upgrade as I got a luxury SUV instead of the standard SUV I had rented! Will definitely rent here again the next time I'm in ABQ!! read more

If this review was strictly for the folks at the Albuquerque airport, hands down 5 stars. They were perfect. Handled everything immediately and we left so happy. Flawless. We are so happy with them. However. Call-in customer service deserves negative stars. Reasons listed in no particular order. Even the US Post Office is not that incompetent. Locked the key/fob in the car in the middle of the high desert. Almost no cell signal. Did get through. Spent the next 4 hours calling and texting and the net result was nothing. The call center in is India, which is strike 1 as the accent was doubly hard to understand. 1) Hard to understand anyway. 2) I am hard of hearing. Strike 2 - I had to the send the car's location. B.S. That thing has got to have a GPS locator. Besides which, Internet service out there? Didn't happen. They gave me an address, about 2-3 miles from where the car was parked. Strike 3 - They could not find anyone to unlock the car. B.S. They tried to dispatch someone out of Denver, then Colorado Springs. Claimed they could not find anyone. They finally contacted someone and he said he was on the way. Never showed up. Will be reviewing that in another post. Strike 4 - They offered to exchange vehicles AFTER the car we were in was unlocked. WTAF? They would NOT tell me if there was an extra charge for this. I did pay for the "walk-away" insurance. Unlock & swap never happened, so there's that. Strike 5 - We eventually go a call through to the nearest town. We, not them, got ahold of a guy. 20 minutes later he was there. 45 seconds later, unlocked. Will be posting a review on this man as well. Wow. Unbelievable quality and service and honesty. Jody's Wrecker Service, Raton NM. Dude would NOT take my money because he had no invoices in the truck. Talk about honesty... Strike 6 - I warned them - listen to the calls Alamo - the vehicle was NOT safe overnight where it was parked. Did they care? Nope. Someone did try to break into the vehicle and left damage. See insurance comment above. Regardless, I would not pay for the damage anyway since they were so obviously unconcerned about the vehicle anyway. Fortunately, all the calls to tech support are recorded and back up the conversation parts of this issue. Yes, Alamo, you may contact me. I do not want an apology. An apology will result in more posts about this problem. I want an explanation of why this happened and what you will do to stop it from happening in the future. I do not expect anything except an automated reply. I will rent vehicles in the future. I may be forced to use Alamo. I hope not. As for anyone else needing a rental, pick some other company. UPDATE: as noted, Alamo asked me to contact them about the issue. I did. 2nd UPDATE: Chatted with either a bot or someone in India. The other end of the conversation promised to "elevate" the matter to the highest managers at that station. In other words, nothing was done or will be done. As expected. read more

We rented our car in LAX, and returned it here. I hope Miguel helps you check your car back in. He was friendly and efficient. We weren't feeling good today, and it must have shown. He grabbed a luggage cart for us and our 5 bags. They were heavy. He also sent a digital receipt to our email. Nice! When we get the survey from Alamo about customer service, Miguel is the reason we'll award 5 out of 5 stars!! Our shuttle driver also deserves 5 stars. I did not catch her name, but she hefted our bags unto the shuttle as if they weighed 10 pounds each - not 20 to 50. She was a safe, pleasant driver. Well, the staff waited just for us when any other company would have closed. I was worried we'd have no car! I rented a car from Alamo at Albuquerque International Airport on December 19, 2025. The following morning, I woke a flat tire and there was no spare in the trunk. I was 60 miles up in the mountains, in a cabin with no cell service. After 24 hours of no contact, my family concerned because they have not heard or seen me , come up to the cabin and rescued me. Eventually, I returned the car. They upgraded me as a courtesy, but when I returned the car, they charged me a higher price. I told the agent about my dissatisfaction, and he said a supervisor would contact me within three days. I also completed a survey and said I wanted to be contacted. For starters, it should be pointed out that Alamo falls under the same umbrella as national and enterprise. Like pretty much all airport car rentals, you'll catch a shuttle which will take you to their lot. The check in process goes fairly smoothly and they give you the usual papers to sign. I reserved the full-size car at least a month in advance and they handed me Chevy Malibu which did the trick, although the AC seemed to struggle. I would've liked to have been able to choose my vehicle instead of being handed the keys to whatever was on the lot. I recommend you remember exactly how you left because that's exactly the same way you will be returning. When you leave the checkout gate, you'll be returning through the gate directly next to it. Once you return the vehicle, they'll do a quick walk around and ask you if the service was everything you expected. Don't forget to collect your things such as your charge cable. I paid $380 for four days for a full-size car. I would rent from them again. read more

I booked a 4 day rental through Costco and Alamo came through with the Infiniti Q50. Checking in was super easy and returning the car was also super easy. The only thing we forgot was to refuel the car before returning and I notified Seth (awesome Alamo guy) and he said don't worry, just notify the check out gate and they will let you out to refuel the car. This is the 2nd time I've used Alamo (once in SF and now in NM) and both times have been ahhhhhmazing!! read more

We booked our rental car through Costco travel and our experience using Alamo was awesome! Booking online was very easy to do and the price breakdown was very easy to understand. When we arrived to the airport the signs made it easy to find where we needed to go. When we got there there was a little bit of a line but it moved quickly. The lady who helped us with getting our car was so friendly! She was giving us suggestions on places we should eat at since this was our first time visiting NM. She also noticed it was almost my birthday and told me happy birthday. The customer service here is great! We paid to get a sedan type car and we were pleasantly surprised when we got a brand new Kia Soul with only 5,000 miles on it. The car was really nice! The inside was very clean and had a clean smell to it. When we returned the car it was a super easy process and only took about 3 minutes. This was so nice since we need to get to the airport to catch our flight. The employee went over our charges and made sure we were on the same page and knew what to expect. I rented a medium size SUV through American Express travel from Alamo. When I arrived at the airport, I was asked if I wanted the SUV to have all wheel drive or not. The all-wheel-drive option would be $50 extra per day. I was never given the option online to choose all wheel drive so this was a surprise to me. There was also no notice when I booked the car that this would be an extra charge. They had both types of cars available. I was told that because I used a third-party website instead of renting through Alamo directly that this was the reason I was not given the option of all-wheel-drive online. read more

I picked up my car Friday and everything was fine.. after the balloon fiesta on Saturday morning/afternoon, me and my two kids tried to get back in the car and it kept repeating no key in car. We tried for about 20 minutes but it was so hot out so I called Alamo. They kept transferring me to I believe a corporate office or general 1800 line when I was trying to get a hold of roadside assistance. Finally got ahold of roadside assistance and they said an Uber would pick us up and take us to enterprise to get a car because they were the same brand apparently. We ended up waiting almost 2 hours from our first phone call til being picked up. Uber took us to enterprise and we are told they have no available cars...... they then take us to Alamo by the airport where we picked up our original rental. The branch manager Alexander Kramer ended up helping us and took great care of us. He tried to speed the process up for us because we told him we were on a time crunch and had tickets to another event. read more

Absolute disaster. Totally different policies than quoted by telephone customer service agents. Staff are poorly trained and aren't allowed to make any decisions. Manager was like talking to a 10th-grader. I arrived with reservation and left in an Uber car. All car rental companies are basically the same. Solid rental overall. They only have a few counters so I can see where it might get really backed up and busy but we had only a short wait as we beat the rush from our flight. We had a mid size SUV but the upgraded us to a Tahoe which was very nice and roomy. Car was a little dirty overall but nothing terrible. Return was quick and easy. Had numerous attendants waiting for returns even during an off time which is nice. Emailed receipt in addition to printed at the car. read more

They are deceptive. I was quoted a price online when u booked a car. Unfortunately due to medical emergency we had to drop off the car on our trip and fly home. I called and was quoted the drop off fee of $107. Got to the place and the price was increased nearly $300. I asked to speak to a manager and they said the computer does the fee calculation; I asked to speak with the computer. Four adult employees looked at me like I was an alien being. We prepaid for a one week rental from Alamo. Our flight was delayed and by the time we reached the Albuquerque airport (2 AM) Alamo was closed. We had received a heads up from the shuttle driver that this was a common occurrence and in this matter we could go to another car counter to ask for a price match and then a refund from Alamo. The only counter that was open at 2 AM was Hertz and they had no available cars that day. So with no car to pick up we took a Lyft to our hotel. We were greeted the next morning with a freak snow storm. Luckily the storm subsided after leaving 2 inches of snow on the ground. We took the complimentary hotel shuttle back to the airport to hopefully pick up a rental car. Supposedly our reservation would still be honored for 24 hours. It took about 5 minutes to pick up our car from the lot. The staff were very nice and helpful. One thing that did make me feel uncomfortable was that one of the attendants saw me plugging in my GPS and he thought it was ridiculous that I would need GPS in Albuquerque since "it was so easy to get around". I have never been to Albuquerque before and had no idea how to get around or any sense of direction in the area. Aside from that, everything was great with the car and I appreciated that the car came with an ice scraper and brush in regards to the snow. Returning the car at the end of the week Alamo scanned it in and then gave me a $300 bill. I said that has to be wrong since the car was prepaid. A manager came over and asked for proof that it was prepaid so I showed him the reservation and receipt that it was prepaid. He then took care of the matter on the computer and thank goodness I didn't see a double charge on my credit card. I will probably not be renting a car from Alamo again in the future. read more

Remember the Alamo! These guys did a great job with outfitting me with a car. The rental agency is located a few blocks from the airport, accessible from a shuttle that runs (for free) every fifteen minutes or so. It turns out that Alamo, Enterprise, and a few others are all owned by the same company out here (and possibly elsewhere) so it really doesn't matter too much which agency you pick. However, I was pleased to get Alamo, being from the Alamo City. The check out was speedy, and the clerk was friendly throwing me some discounts to restaurants and attractions around town. I opted for the smallest car available, but when it wasn't available on the lot, I got upgraded at no cost. The car I got had some paint damage to the fender, but they made careful note of that, and I haven't been charged for it. The car was clean and reliable. It wasn't exactly a powerhouse, but it got great gas mileage, and was roomy enough for all my stuff. Dropping the car off was fast, once I found the place and managed to get some gas. read more

Lied!!! Don't believe them when they say that you will not be charged for "incidental damage" such as "a scratch smaller than a dollar bill, or a dent smaller than a golf ball". As you can clearly see in the pictures this scratch is almost half the length of a dollar bill, and almost not visible in the other picture. I do not even know if I caused this scratch, but since I did not notice it when I picked up the car, I will be charged for it. If I can save even one person from renting from Alamo rent a car I will feel justified! My husband and I rent cars several times a year, and Alamo rental car will be taken off our list FOREVER! Airport shuttle got us to the rental car area. Line at Alamo was about 30! We got midway and a customer leaving told us it would be another 30 mins or more to get to the front of the line. Only ONE person working the counter. Is this a business or is Alamo trying to lose business? One of the other rentals sold out so we were stuck. If money is no option, rent from someone else. Maybe the CEO needs to work the front lines to see if she remembers from her days as an Alamo trainee that you need to staff appropriately. She was voted top female executive of 100 in 2017 and thus this kind of service? The Enterprise company needs to do better. Then you have to sit and wait for the car to arrive and have your name called when it shows up. That took another 25 mins. The Nissan SUV we drove had a Texas license plate. If you travel to the SW especially Arizona and New Mexico you're treated better with TX plates. We pulled over to look at a map driving from Arizona to New Mexico. A flower shop lady sitting outside jumped out of her chair to help us and said she saw our plates and had to help because she was from Texas too. It was hilarious. My family and I have rented from Alamo before, most recently in Maui. That experience was great. About a week and a half ago we rented from the Albuquerque location and things got weird. We selected to rent a "Luxury" car and they had no stock! Why would you let people pay more for something and not have a car selection in that category? Weird. We did end up having a Camaro, which I was very happy about. The car itself was awesome! Two days into renting the vehicle, my phone drops in between the seat and I reach to grab it. As I was struggling to pick it up, I noticed there was a NEEDLE in this car and to make it even better, it was USED! I was so scared because what if this needle did not have a cap and it poked me? The gross thoughts went through my head. When we came back and let the worker know about what happened, he was very nice and apologetic. The service is good but come on, please do a better job inspecting the vehicle before renting it out to someone else. read more

I am a pretty loyal Alamo customer - it started when I was younger and sometimes couldn't afford a $500 hold on my credit card that some companies charge when you rent. As I grew older I just kinda stuck with them. Until last week. I made the reservation through Expedia - found a great rate at Alamo for $75 for 3 days in a compact SUV, taxes and fees included. Showed up at the rental center ready to go - first the automated kiosk won't read my license, so I have to wait in line. We finally get to the counter and hipster dude tells me that it's an extra $15 per day for an additional driver (why?!? why would Alamo cares who drives as long as they are insured with a valid license? A complete money-grab.) Whatever. Let's just get through this. So we complete the forms and hipdude is about to swipe my credit card and tells me he will be charging $197.50 to my Visa. What?!?! "Oh", he says, "You are picking up the car early" Ya - we caught an earlier flight, so it's 10:30 instead of 1:15 - we are still dropping the car off at 9 in three days. The car is just sitting there - who gives a shit? Blank stare. So I tell him no way - gimme back my Visa and my license. Now this is an opportunity for Hipster to make some sort of concession. Something is better than nothing, right. Nope - he just shrugs and hands me back my stuff. We walk right next door to Hertz, ask what they got, and 10 minutes later we are driving off in a brand new full size with 18 miles on it for $120 for the 3 days. More than the original $75 but way less than the $200 Alamo was gonna screw me for. So, nice to know ya Alamo. It's not like it's a competitive industry with literally dozens of rival companies working out of the same building.... Buyer beware with Alamo - the price you are quoted is probably not what you will pay at the desk. read more

This was my first car rental experience ever- I read lots of reviews on here (most were 1 star with horror stories), but Alamo has some good reviews, so I went for it, but was kind of worried it would go badly In reality, it could not have gone any better. I reserved ahead of time, and the rate was actually the best of any rental agency in ABQ. When I went to the counter, the woman explained very thoroughly all the details of the rental, answered all of my questions (even just about things like maps and attractions), and didn't try to upsell me on anything (she did patiently answer my questions about some of the options which I decided to decline) The folks in the lot were efficient and friendly in helping with car selection, and the return process later on was fast and not-stressful. The shuttle came quickly to bring us to the airport, making up for my poor planning Seems like this is how car renting should go, and based on the reviews here, it seems like only Alamo does it well. Due to poor weather my flight from Boston to Albuquerque (ABQ) was delayed a few months ago. As a result I had to spend the night in Atlanta, thereby missing my original flight, and hence my car reservation at Alamo in ABQ. I called the Alamo desk in ABQ and spoke to Mike, who not only secured me a vehicle for the following day but booked me a reservation for $100 less than what I had originally booked. I was impressed and relieved, and look forward to using Alamo in the future. read more
