Thank you, Tim. *** Original Post: This was the worst customer service I ever experienced, and I'm a very experienced traveler. The customer service representative asked me where I would be staying during my visit. I didn't understand the purpose of the question, which struck me as invasive so I asked for clarification on why they needed to know... i.e., was it a policy, required, etc. The employee put her hand on her hip and sarcastically responded, "'Cause I'm about to give you one of our $30,000 vehicles.. So I need to know where you'll be." I said again I wanted to understand the policy before I would give out personal information. She repeated the same sarcastic answer. I asked to speak with her manager. When the manager came over I explained the situation. The employee said I was cussing at her. Now I had said she was being a smart ass, although I'm not sure that constitutes "cussing" at someone. The employee continued to be rude in front of the manager, snickering, making scoffing noises, and otherwise goading me. I asked the manager, who is Melissa Natanni if she was observing this rude behavior and Ms. Natanni said she would not honor the reservation since I had used the word ass, and that made her uncertain as to whether or not I would be safe to drive. And so Alamo would not honor the reservation I had made weeks ago. I called the 800-number and they said they were powerless to override franchise decisions but that they were sorry for the poor customer service I received and would escalate my complaint. However, since it was Friday evening, no one would get back to me until the following week. All around, the worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more

Worst car rental experience of all time. I reserved a midsize SUV and all they have are 15 passenger vans. It has taken over 20 minutes for them to bring this monster size vehicle around and I am still waiting. They ran out correct of the correct vehicles for everybody who was in line. The whole thing is a hot mess. They don't know how to keep a reservation. I just want to take my kids to my mom's house and I'm sitting here waiting at 12:47 in the morning. The guy said that I can exchange the vehicle tomorrow perhaps but that involves a lot of work on my part is a giant pain in the butt. read more

My family recently had a short vacation in Punta Gorda and rented from Alamo. On first contact, the person at the service desk was helpful and the car we got was perfect. There was a major winter storm coming and had to leave early. We had difficult securing a change in flights, so we arranged to use the vehicle. I went back to Alamo at the airport and Soha worked with us so we could get home. After we made those arrangements, we were able to book airflight so I ended up returning the car to the terminal. I returned the car to Jessica Diaz, who was super friendly and made sure everything was taken care of. This was one of the best customer service experiences I have had in a long time. As part of a prepaid package with Allgiant Air, I booked a new Toyota Camry, what I got was a 3 year old Nissan Rouge with just under 70,000 miles. While clean, it barely idled, it shook like a dog... It would randomly get stuck in first gear until you shifted to neutral then back to drive. To describe it as being under-powered would be kind, it was a beater. Our flight arrived after mid-night, took a while to find it in a huge lot , in the dark, exhausted from the flight. Too late to do anything about it, we just dealt with it. While it never actually died, it was an all-around unpleasant car to drive. The gutless wonder never achieved better that 25mpg. Fine. Alamo has a stable of Government Mules as rentals, that's life. What I didn't expect was a $280 bill for undisclosed "fees" days after turning the old bucket-o-bolts in. Calling to inquire about the undisclosed charge, Got the usual hired help that spoke broken English. Said he'd have to "talk to the boss" and get back to me. You can guess where this is going. If you have to rent a car, stick with the big companies. They have a newer stable of vehicles and are typically are up front about how you're going to get screwed on your bill. read more

Rented a toddler rear facing car seat prior to arriving, got there and they had no idea what seat it was or how to tell the difference between infant, toddler rear facing and then forward facing. I was then offered a booster seat for a 2 year old???Took them OVER AN HOUR and FOUR car seats later to find a crappy, unsafe and baseless car seat, therefore it was never snug in the rear seat, it wiggled far beyond 1inch, probably a foot, honestly. I rented one elsewhere for the week. They had a worker go into the rental car lot to put the car seat in the car, why couldn't he just drive it up to the rental doors instead of having a customer walk FOREVER to go get it and then not even make sure it's a proper, functional and the correct car seat before he left?? I had to drive my two year old back around the airport in a car seat that was too small and unsafe to complain AGAIN about the wrong car seat. Yes, each car seat is different, but their workers should be trained to safely instal car seats. Never will use Alamo again. Key for vehicle was also bent, was not a keyless start vehicle , very inconvenient. Negative stars. read more

We rented a premium car online from rentalcars.com. Rate was decent. The line when we arrived to pick up was long but they had all counter spots working. Summer checked us in she was very friendly. We picked up our car late at night so it was hard to see how the car looked. It looked like they didn't clean out the car after the last use. But when we returned it they did credit us $50. Rented a cargo van for our family vacation to haul 9 of us (6 adults and 3 toddlers) plus luggage. Second night in, we discovered it was cockroach INFESTED! It took us forever to get anyone at Alamo to answer the phones and they never did respond to the email I sent. We had to basically beg and threaten legal action to get them to get us a different vehicle, and even then, we ended up with a 8 passenger vehicle when there were 9 of us. The cockroach infested van sat at our VRBO for an additional 2 days before they had the tow company come pick it up. We only heard from Alamo when WE reached out. They never offered to get us a comparable vehicle nor did they ever offer to give us any sort of a refund for the difference in price, nor for the 3 car seats and 3 car seat travel covers we had to replace! We are almost a week post vacation and we are still having to stay on top of "management" to ensure our claim is being reviewed for reimbursement. We even have pics, video, AND an exterminator's eye witness statement that the cockroaches had to have been in that van for quite some time based on the different sizes and number of them and that he did not recommend using the car seats or getting back in the van. Yet, this is our mess and expense to deal with? I can honestly say there were 2 people at the particular branch that were helpful and empathetic the night we finally got through to someone and explained the situation. They are the two that brought us the new vehicle on their own watch - and they also witnessed the van infestation and agreed how unacceptable it was. Unfortunately, their hands are tied and it's up to their management and above to determine what they do or don't do for us now. read more

Very helpful when I needed a rental car when my flight was canceled. Professional, friendly, accommodating.

We had originally rented a truck for price,but with talk of rain we were concerned about luggage getting wet so we agreed to upgrade he offered. Said $44 more for a Toyota Camry. But it really wasn't $44 he failed to mention that comes with a tax too. When we got to parking spot to pick up we noticed the truck was 4 door and out luggage would have got fine, which if he wasn't a salesman he could have told us that. The Toyota Camry was new and we hated it, dint buy one before you drive it awhile, it's horrible. The return was very easy and she was very friendly. Good experience if it wasn't for the sales pressure of all the extras they turned a 5 day rental from $201 to $261 and would have been more if we fell to the fear of an accident. Stop with the sales pitches and you would be a great rental company. read more

What's this?!?! A rental car company that doesn't make you wait forever, then treat you like a nobody when you sign your life away for the simple pleasure of renting a car!?!? I almost fainted from surprise. Located at the small Charlotte County Airport in Punta Gorda, this rental car was part of an Allegiant Air vacation package I had purchased, and a good one at that. I have come to expect the worst from rental car companies: long, snail-paced lines which reward you at the end with snarky salespeople who try to sell you a bunch of nonsense you do not need. But this Alamo location was an exception. The wait was no longer than 5 minutes. The agent was quick and friendly, and while he did try to sell me the ubiquitous full tank of gas and insurance, he didn't bat an eye when I declined. Since this is a smaller airport, their hours are limited, so for my early morning flight, I simply dropped by keys in a drop box and was on my way. A courteous call from an agent confirmed receipt of the keys, and asked if they could do any more for me! Wow: So this is what a rental car company is supposed to be like... read more

The service at the airport in punta gorda was slow and the car had a tire problem and Alamo wanted $75 to come out my Aaa fixed the problem and said the tires were wrong for the car.we had a week's rental but were instructed to turn the car in at enterprise for another, it was decided to end the rental we were told of the $200 cost 42 would be charged and the rest refunded but enterprise computer couldn't access the Alamo computer and we would be refunded by Alamo they offered 100. This was the worst rental car ever. Even though the Impala had less than 1000 miles, the electronics were messed up. The radio had a mind of its own: couldn't turn down loud volume, change channels, or even turn it off. The gas gauge didn't reflect the right level of gas. The cruise only worked sporadically. The key wouldn't release the trunk. I complained when we turned the car in 6 days ago. I also emailed Alamo. I have been totally ignored. Judging by Alamo's customer service, I wouldn't use them again. read more

I fly into Punta Gorda on a regular basis and 99.9% of the time I book my flight and car as a package through Alleigant Air. The process is quick and easy. When arriving in Punta Gorda, the attendants are always very pleasant. When returning the car to Punta Gorda, it is REALLY quick and easy because there is an agent in the parking lot that you drive up to and you do not need to go into the building. The ONLY reason I did not give 5 starts is: The last 2 or 3 trips, I receive an email (directly from Alamo) a few days prior to my flight, suggesting that I "check in" for my rental to help speed things up. I provide my driver's license and whatever other information they are looking for, and answer all the questions about accessories I may need (child seat, GPS, etc). However, when I arrive at the rental center to pick up the car, I still need to stand in the long line and the check out process still seems to take about the same amount of time. It would be nice if there was a separate line for those that have already "checked in" online. Otherwise.... nice friendly staff to work with! read more

I had no problem with the car. I do have an issue with an online deal that I complied to and I did not get the credit coming to me. I was asked if I would like a fill-up prior to getting the car. I did this and it was 20.00?....not sure exactly; however when I picked up the car, it was neat empty and I expected it to be full, which I assumed I had paid in advance. I had to get a tank of gas at about 25.00 and paid for it. I returned the car with at least half a tank. I may be missing something, but I feel that I was due a refund of 25.00. I did not report this when returning the car to Punta Gorda,because we were tired and it just wasn't worth it. Also, when my grand daughter and I arrived, we had to wait a hour in line. It is good business for you at Alamo, but 1 hr of valuable time on vacation. There were only 3 clerks, and in my opinion, when there are 25 or more customers, you need more help. Everyone was nice and no problems with the car. I will be traveling again at some point, and I love Allegiant travel, but I really would not want to stand in those long lines again. Rented a Kia Velocity which is among the worst cars I have driven. Transmission shifted so poorly I was afraid to drive this vehicle and didn't have time to switch it out during my trip so it just sat 5 days racking up charges. If there's nothing wrong with this car and that's the way it typically drives it should not be part of the Alamo rental fleet. read more

I pre-paid for my rental utilizing a package with the airline (who I am sure got a nice fee). So the rental was paid for a month before we got there. When we arrived, however, they didn't have any cars in the class I rented (except they did, because I can see). So they tried to give me a sedan (I had rented a premium SUV). I told them it wouldn't work with the amount of luggage and people I had in my party. They told me to try anyway. It didn't. They then offered a class LOWER than what I had paid for. I barely fit everything in but assumed I would be saving money so was OK with it. I also chose to pre-pay for the tank of gas because the price was great and I knew I would be driving a lot. Then we get to where we are staying. They are panicked by COVID and we were supposed to be there for only half of the trip. The other half was an hour away. They were more freaked and asked us not to come (super glad I paid hundreds of dollars for nothing). So I returned the car with 3/4 tank of gas (20 minute drive to and from airport, two trips less than 5 miles to Publix). NOW, one month later I check my credit card bill before paying it and Alamo is charging (attempting to steal) me an additional $225! I call them and they say it is for taxes and re-filling the fuel. I told them I pre-paid for the gas, and used only a 1/4 tank even if I hadn't so maybe $12 in gas. Plus I tell her I wasn't given the class of car I paid for. She says she doesn't have the same computer system so can't see. I asked how she knows any of the charges are correct then? She says I need to call Punta Gorda direct. So I look up their number and call. It sends me right back to the people I just talked to. I have spent half of my career in airports and rental car counters and have never dealt with anything like this. I have been upgraded for free more times than I count. Now they try to charge me more for less car and for giving them free gasoline? Not when I'm done disputing the charges. read more

This is my second time to use Alamo Car Rental at this airport. The first time they were out of compact cars, so they have us a Mustang Convertible instead! What fun! The last time my key fell off the ring and I had to leave the car in another city and take Uber to the airport from Naples ( at 3:30 am!). I was concerned about all the charges for towing the vehicle, replacement car key fee, etc. They called me the next day and said they understood it was not my fault and I would not owe any extra. Believe me, I had tears of joy about this! Go Alamo!!! read more

I'm only giving this one star because the car was actually excellent. However, we returned our car earlier today and walked over to the airport where we were told within minutes that our flight had been cancelled. After walking back to the rental car place we were told (rudely) our "contract" was finalized and could not be extended even though we closed it maybe 15 minutes prior. It was my first car rental experience and it makes me nervous to have another one. read more

I always use Alamo and am impressed with their service and quality. From some of the comments posted here there seems to be a lot of rookies out there, so lets review the basics of car rentals. #1 - Rent from the car rental company, not thru your airline, Big Box Store, or the Travel Bunny website. Any computer errors, either that you make or the middle man makes, will not be the problem of the rental car company. #2 - Check your insurance policy. Many foreign visitors think they are covered - NOT. Do this before you leave on holiday, if in doubt buy the rental company insurance. If a drunk backs into you in a restaurant parking lot and drives off, you and your insurance get to decide how much each of you will pay for the full repair determined by the owner of the car - which is the rental car company. #3 - Check the car for damage before you leave the lot! Mark up the rental agreement with any damage you find and have a staff member confirm and sign it. That means missing spare tyre, damaged wheels, scratches in doors, burn holes in seats, and most important cracked windshield (hard to see in a dark parking garage, so pull up under a light) #4 - If the car breaks down or you run over nails, you need to wait for AAA for a tow, or wait for the rental car vendor and be patient. It wont go any faster than it would had you been driving your own car. As driver, any tyre damage from road debris are your problem, not the rental car company. If you don't want to be responsible, take the bus or hire a limo with driver! read more

I had the misfortune to rent a car from Alamo. At the time of sign up, they did their best to lure me into un-needed charges and once confirmed a 3 day rental at $106/day with a final bill. Opon reaching the counter, I found a whole new scheme of pricing that included an additional $68.67 dollars in billing in order to get in the confirmed rental i had already paid for. When pushed for an explanation of services (ie, why does a 30.71 tank of gas cost $68.67) I pushed the issue and finally got an itemized receipt with the following charges. Security fee $2.00 (I certainly felt more secure) Florida Surcharge $2.00/day (I didn't know at the time, but it seems the BEST Vacations have hidden fees) Tire/Battery Fee (I guess somewhere in the fine print, your rental car didn't come with those installed) Vehicle License Fee 64 cents a day (and here I thought I needed a license to drive, it appears not) and my favorite...Airport Access Fee !!!20%!!! Price per unit 88.98 The only thing missing from my Remember the Alamo experience was an alley and a gun in my back, Never again. When I called Alamo to get it fixed they have cleverly outsourced their customer service to hours of hold music and thick enough accents that I had a hard time communicating at all. After a transfer and more time with the hold music I managed to get an email of the charges. It is too late for me, I have already been Fleeced by these Highwaymen, I just hope this review saves another weary traveler from the same pain and suffering. read more

I've had several good experiences with Alamo at punta gorda airport. Thanks for a great rental experience. The only problem was evidentally Allegiant Airlines didn't charge correctly when I booked the rental with my ticket so I recieved an extra charge on my credit card. Shame on allegiant! read more
