We picked up our car at the St. John's airport without a hitch. We got the class of car that we requested, and our customer service agent, who is named Promise, was wonderful to us. My mom can't walk very far so instead of sending us out to the lot to retrieve our car, he got it for us. He loaded our bags into the car, and the car itself was in perfect working order and clean. I rent cars a lot due to work and travel. I have never encountered such a rude disrespectful person than the attendant at the Alamo return in Vancouver airport was a complete jerk. I'd never recommend Alamo because of him. He accused me of damage I did not do and had a picture of before I picked the car up. He disregarded it and said I did it. I now have a bill showing pictures of not the area I picked the car up at showing no dent and a dent at the Vancouver airport. If you are going to compare if there was a dent at pickup you should show at the location of pickup. Not some other location. Never again and I will continue to tell people I know to never use Alamo. read more

I used the Costco Travel website to book my rental car at a nice rate. I hopefully rented a Jeep Wrangler because I wanted to make sure to get a car that can handle any weather and my driving style lol. Alamo was the one that had the best rate. You're always never 100% sure you'll get the car you want because of the dreaded "OR SIMILAR" words after the car name. A premium SUV was a BMW X3, but what's similar to that? I have my ideas, but rental car companies could have their own. Luckily, I got a clean, beautiful, white 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with only 3300 miles on it! The car mats and interior was super clean and pristine. I felt bad for how I'm gonna use it lol! We'll just say it won't be that clean or pristine afterwards. Alamo was easily located when I got out of the Vancouver airport. It was morning time and there was absolutely no customers anywhere. The person helping me was really helpful and clear, and he made sure I understood my options, the charges, and told me to check around the car for possible damage before driving away. As with most rental car companies, there are A LOT of unnecessary options, such as navigation. That's the costliest option. Almost every car is already equipped with navigation (my Jeep did), if not, then you have your phone! I even brought my own car phone mount for it! Super useful! Also, all new cars have a USB port, so you can keep your phone charged! After signing and initially a few papers, I went outside for my car. I was greeted by a couple of friendly gentlemen who seemed to be dressed too nicely to work there lol. All the staff were friendly, courteous, and kind. I'd definitely rent from Alamo again! Reservation made 2 months ago. Told 45 minutes wait. After one hour i was told it would be 45 minutes. The "supervisor" couldn't tell me what the delay was and why others showing up after me are getting their cars. Shouldn't take two hours+ to get a freaking car. Revision: Joshua came in and got us a car and an upgrade that was very nice. It was frustrating to only be told they are working with their team. I had a medical conference and missed the afternoon session due to an accident on the road to Whistler for another two hours. Not the end of the world. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE - after waiting nearly 3hrs in line to pick up our pre-booked car with AVIS at Vancouver International Airport, they refused to rent us anything due to the fact we did not have a credit card (apparently debit/credit cards are not accepted - even though they have the ability to hold damage deposit funds). Walked to Alamo next door and the guy on desk was incredibly helpful and understanding. No 'credit card' required and he had us in a car in less then 10min. Definitely learned our lesson and will be using Alamo for all future car hire! read more

Update to my previous review. Escalated the matter to management. They advised me that we will not be held responsible for the damage to the windshield and they will take steps to educate their employees on the proper handling of customers and what type of damages are acceptable. Still getting the run around with no results of Alamo in Cabo taking $10,000 MXN Pesos on my card and not returning it, I get messages from management saying they will take care of this but i also get messages saying they have no record of my payment, even though I have sent screen shots of my bank statement. Due to bad weather continues at Vancouver during the Christmas period, my flight from San Francisco to Vancouver was cancelled and no flight will be available in 5 days. I noticed Expedia to cancel my car rental at Alamo due to the reason of bad weather at once. Today I was notified by Expedia that Alamo did approve any refund at all. There is no protection for consumer. Every one don't buy any packages. It is better to order separately from flights, hotel and rental car service. read more

Do not recommend!!! It's a long story but please read. Too bad yelp only allows 1 star as the lowest, I would give a zero for this store. We rented a Toyota Camry from this store on May 1-9. First they didn't have the car we booked for when we picked up, not even a same level car. When we picked up on May 1st late in the night they gave us a smaller car. We had to come back the next morning to change it to a white Toyota Camry. Less than 2 days later on May 3rd in the afternoon around 2pm, the right front wheel broke right on the highway! We were driving at normal speed, around 100km/h, and it was a single lane road. Just imagine how dangerous it was with a flat tyre! You can see how bad it was from the pictures attached. The car did have a backup tyre and some tools, but, it was missing the special key AND the emergency reflective warning triangle. Just too dangerous!!! And tbh the emergency reflective warning triangle is required by law for motor vehicles to have! So we had to wait for 4-5 hours on the highway for towing. (btw, at first they were not even willing to send a tow truck, a driver passed by happened to work for them before and he contacted some people to finally got them send towing truck for us) We were towed to a nearby city, had to pay $400+ for changing the tyre because of the after hour service, and finally able to continue our way after 8pm. Had to drive in the dark for 6 hours to get to the destination on that day. This isn't the end of our story. After we returned the car and reported about what happened on May 9th, the company is just absurd and hard to communicate with, period. (which we already learned when trying to get help with the flat tyre) All we asked for is them to pay us the fee for tyre replacing. We gave them copy of the receipt, bank transaction, photos, etc. Then its the long wait. Minimal communication or update from them during the wait. Then guess what? On May 24th they sent us a billing letter asking us to pay the tyre replacement fee! Exactly the same amount as we paid as shown on the receipt!!! What the??? We already paid, sent them all documents necessary, and this is what we got. We replied them we have paid and sent these documents. We were very calm and restrained all the time when communicating with them. Then its another more than a month of wait time, today (June 28th) they replied and said we dont need to pay the bill they sent before with NO word for refund or compensation. All these time we did not hear a single apologize for the dangerous situation they put us into. Upon our return to Ontario, and after a final car inspection with an Alamo car surveyor who gave us a green light that there was no damage, we get a call saying there is severe damage done to the back bumper of the rental car. We knew in fact that there was no damage, as we had done a final inspection before leaving and had come upon none alongside the car surveyor who works for Alamo. We asked them to provide photo proof of the supposed damage, to which they said they couldn't until after the claim had been handled (???) Thank goodness we have insurance to cover this but do yourself a favour and STEER CLEAR of this place who tried to scam us! Alamo, we understand times are tough given the current economic circumstances but this treatment is in fact NOT the way to achieve repeat consumers! read more

I'm done with this location. I've rented cars from National (100's of times) and Alamo (many times) at YVR over the years. I had a rental in April for a month where I left my sunglasses in the holder (hidden away) in the vehicle.. the branch was no help trying to get them back. I attempted to rent the past weekend.. told no cars and wait of 2 hours to get one.. even though the location is totally dead and not another customer in the area. Very disappointing! I rented from Alamo twice during the summer of 2017. The first time around, I went for a standard sized car, since I figured a smaller car would be a smarter option if I were driving from Vancouver to Tofino (there are some pretty narrow bits along that highway). The confirmation was for a Ford Focus, but I was pleasantly surprised when they provided a new Chevrolet Cruze for us. As a young renter however, I do have to pay the young renters fee, which I believe was $25 a day, however they very carefully explained the added costs to me and I knew this beforehand as it was mentioned on the booking system, so I didn't get any nasty surprises. When I got the car, it was clean seemingly factory fresh. I requested a GPS system from Alamo, and that was very user friendly- it offered suggestions as I typed my destination in, so I rarely had to look things up on my phone first. The second time around, I was renting a car to go to the Okanagan from YVR, so I went with a mid-sized vehicle since I'd be travelling a longer distance and the added protection of a larger car couldn't hurt. Due to the surge in demand for cars as university semesters came to an end, Alamo wound up giving me a free upgrade to a premium car because they ran out of GPS systems. While most would not consider a Chrysler 300C as a premium/luxury car, it did come with GPS and had a ludicrously soft ride. Again, the car was very new, and very clean. That being said, the built in GPS system wasn't great as it required exact addresses, and on several occasions required that I punch in the geographical coordinates onto the system since the addresses weren't registered on the system. Customer service from Alamo is fantastic. I was running late on my way back to return the car on the second trip, and I was able to get connected to an customer service agent on the phone within minutes, after which they were able to extend my rental for free. Renting with Alamo was a very positive experience. It was rarely frustrating (except with certain GPS systems- not their fault), they were always quick to help. While car rentals will be expensive when you're under 25 regardless of where you are in Canada, Alamo at least has the courtesy to give you cars that are new enough for you to not feel so bad about the massive hole you now have in your wallet. read more

Weird experience since the day of rental. Paid the price of a Jeep Renegade and received a lower end Mazda sedan (not of equal value) as a result with no compensation for price difference because they were making it too much of a hassle. On the day of returning the vehicle I accidentally left my possessions in there and came the next day to retrieve it (don't bother calling their office, the automated assistant is no help). Even though it's been only a day, they keep me waiting 45 minutes just to find out where my studio monitor speakers were. They said they were "in a different holding facility." Tell me this Alamo, why would you not notify me about lost possessions of a high value item unless you were trying to keep it? read more

I reserved a suburban in June for a reservation in august. When we arrived we've been told that no suburban was available. The customer after us reserved the same car and was told the same thing.. We talked to manager and Then begun a real comedy . First he mentioned that 3 customers were supposed to return suburban the evening the night before and he tried to call them but they never answered. After he said that in Vancouver Alamo doesn't control the booking and the system we're kept open. We asked him to verify with other companies, He didn't.. we asked him if could exchange the vehicle in whisler , he said yes but we realized that there is no Alamo in Whistler. We asked him the name of his manager and he didn't know. ... Following the way that the staff reaction its seems to be always like that with this floor manager. Upon returning our car, they checked for damage without asking or looking at our paperwork, which we paid for full coverage. They obviously scanned our barcode but failed to notice our insurance policy on file and started questioning us about the damage on the car which were previously there even before we get our car. We have full coverage, meaning we don't need to worry about the condition of the car when we get it and we walk away upon returning as well. We then proceeded to the counter to get the final receipt, where the agent questioned us AGAIN with a very bad attitude FAILING to realize our full coverage again, and continued with his BAD ATTITUDE afterward. I reserved a premium car from Alamo, ( feb 22-feb26 I did not buy any insurance for it because my Amex will cover it)they offer upgrade to luxury car for 25 dollar extra. Great price! I take it! No one go through the car check with me and I drive the car away with out signed anything about collision. 4 days later I drop of the rental Jaguar XJ, the guy extremely easily find a tiny collision on the button of front bumper( I think they know the collision already before I take the car) the collision is 3 cm or less! They tells me there will big bill for it,(also Amex will not pay for collision because Amex only cover the rental car under 85,000)i walk away with sign the collision page because I have to catch the flight! After more then one week, I did not got any new for they and I am not sure how much is big bill. read more

What I take from that is that apparently asking about cost and charges is a big no no at Alamo. Also incurred multiple random charges that made the price of rental much higher than the "estimated cost" upon online booking. I have never experienced such an unprofessional encounter as I did here. Just rented a car here. Before returning the car, I filled it up less than 10mins away from where I was dropping it off. I was charged a $30 "refueling" fee because it was a SLIVER under "full". Completely unreasonable. On top of that, I was told I'd get a Toyota Corolla or something similar, and they gave me a Dodge Charger.....not at ALL similar. When I asked if I could have something else they said it would be a $60 change fee. Never again.... read more

Well unfortunately I don't have much good to say about the Alamo car rental at the Vancouver airport... 1) although there were four employees behind the counter and three in the garage it took over 40minutes to get my car keys. This was mostly due to the distain Kal clearly had for his job. Not only did he complain that he hated working there but also complained that the price I had reserved online was too low and he wouldn't make any money off of me. I understand it was a great deal, however that's not really my fault or problem frankly. He also had the keys for the car beside him and when I asked from them Kal continued to make me wait. 2) once in the car I realized it wasn't in great shape. The breaks were very sticky and it smelled like cigarette smoke. I didn't want to deal with Kal again so I continued onward. On the highway I realized the car was in worse shape than I thought. When I called the YVR Alamo they refused to come pick me up and said I'd have to drive the defective vehicle back to the airport. They were completely UNHELPFUL. I decided that it would be further to drive back than to continue onto my hotel so I kept going. In the end, although the price was good my time is worth more and I would rather spend more money and get service that doesn't make me feel as if I'm a burden to disgruntled employees. I'm forced to rent a car more than once month for work and will NEVER hire Alamo or suggest it to my colleagues. read more

I must say that this experience here at Alamo in YVR was quick and painless. Showed my printed itinerary, was told to initial, initial, sign here, and off we went to our rental car. If you have never rented a car before then ask questions. If you have... then you have that.. "give me my car and let me go" metality. Like i said- it was easy. Miscommunication is the suck. Here's the story, coles notes version: - Purchased a rental (with insurance) through a 3rd party site. - Arrived at the site and received a quote different from the one online (on computers circa 1900s). - Was asked if we wanted insurance. Told them that we wanted the one we PURCHASED online. She said she didn't know what we were talking about and signed us up for insurance. - Then was told by the attendant that they could adjust the price once we got our online receipt and could show them what happened. - - - - - - - - FAST FORWARD AFTER TRIP - - - - - - - - - - - Found out we got charged for TWO insurances. One bought online through a 3rd party company via the 3rd party site & another Alamo charged us. In the end, paid an unnecessary extra $200. *bang head on wall* There was also a $50 airport fee, and when trying to call their customer service line, was on hold for enough time to grow a new specie of plant. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but it was enough time for me to decide that I didn't want to wait any longer and I am a turtle when it comes to waiting - slow and steady wins the race :) The extra $$$ we had to pay was super poopsville, but it's more the false information down the customer service line that turned a possible Christmas morning experience into a root canal experience. If you so happen have to rent a car from here, be sure to have all your information / details memorized or on you and be super thorough with them. If anything sounds fishy, deal with it there or get the name of the person helping you and sort things out asap. Sounds super paranoid-city, but unless you like throwing money at dragons for a hobby or enjoy gluing fingers to your face, then get ready to have your eyes in shifty mode. read more

So the last time we rented a car, using Expedia or somesuch search engine, we got a car elsewhere, and it was way more expensive, and also someone stole my card info and my credit card had fraud. This time, we lucked out with Alamo! Not only did I get wise to the way it's billed...we needed 6 days but it's cheaper if you rent for a week. I made sure that there were no hidden fees, so it seemed pretty honest and up-front this time. We don't do too much travel that involves a rental car, so I'm not the most savvy on this, but I am getting better, and had a good experience here, so much so, that next time I will probably go straight to Alamo rather than go through the whole search engine again. Car was great, we had a snowboard and luggage, but we were able to make it work with an economy size, so it was a great experience all around. read more

I show up and it is busy, A service rep joined the registers and he immediately got my information and all that formal stuff. Complete scammers, take a walk around video of vehicle after you drop off to protect yourself from these people. Fortunately, I was protected though my own insurance, but these people are thieves. I pre-booked a rental car with Alamo Rent A Car at Vancouver International Airport .It was easy to find and is on site at the Vancouver Airport which is very convenient. I was taken care of promptly at the counter. I booked my economy size car at $20.00 per day but only needed it for several hours. I opted for the insurance at $8.00 just in case and got a GPS device which is highly recommended at $12.00. With all the other fees and taxes, the total came out to $61.00 which is not a deal and not cheap but it is what it is- unlimited mileage and I gassed up the car prior to bringing it back to the airport. Signage for the rental car return is good because it is color coded and easy to follow. read more

Had the worst checkin experience with Marisa. She was so rude and unhelpful. I ordered an economy car because I knew I'd be doing a lot of driving so I wanted to save on gas. Ironically, when I booked it online was MORE expensive than a compact, only by a few dollars but still ...was more expensive. When I got to checkin Marisa gave me a compact car and said that's all they have. When I asked if I could then get the 'lower compact rate' because I was being given a car I didn't order, she got very sarcastic and defensive with me. It was almost as if she didn't believe me that a compact was cheaper online. Terrible introduction to Alamo. Got my trip off on the wrong foot. I decided to go with alamo because our flight was scheduled to take off very early and alamo was one of the few car rentals at yvr that's open at 530 am instead of 6 am or later. Check in was made very easy as we reserved everything online before coming. The car was very clean and we had no complaints during our stay. Check out took only moments. Being Vancouver born and raised, and having many family members and friends there, I have travelled to Vancouver many, many times in the past 19 years when I moved away. In the past year alone, I have been there 7 times. I have rented cars from almost all of the rental businesses at one time or another, but I feel Alamo has the most helpful, most honest and most respectful staff, and has close to the best prices than all the other rental companies combined. I decided to rent with Alamo Vancouver because I had really good experience with them in Toronto (I was given the option to pick a car I want in my rental class, and was then given discount on upgrades). Unfortunately, the good seemless experience seemed exclusive to YYZ but not YVR. To begin with I asked if I will be given a choice as to my vehicle because I had that experience in YYZ. The check-in lady said "let me check" and walked back with a set of keys without even answering my request. I booked and prepaid for a Chrysler 300C and was offered a small Cadillac SUV - quite different but I guess I cannot complaint given that it offered more space which I made good use of. Was not asked to look for dents before signing the contract. Not an issue as they promptly marked where dents were when I spotted them. Experienced renters would have no problem with this but people who dont rent often should pay attention - especially with black cars. I do not think that the car was cleaned after the previous renter. There were one or two empty card board boxes in the boot and the car did not look quite clean. Also, the tank was not even full (only 75% full) so I had to walk in and out of their office flagging these different issues - the manager was quite nice and helpful and resolved everything with no fuss. Return was quite easy. Overall not bad but I think that they should not put the duty to check, clean, and topping up the fuel of the vehicle on customers. read more

Alamo is located in the yvr rental car building along with budget, Hertz, Avis. I reserved the car via Expedia and had no problem picking it up. The guy asked if we wanted extra insurance and I declined it as I used a cc with rental coverage. No pressure to purchase their insurance. Went to check the car and the paper has noted the existing scratches and dings. There was one not noted yet so I went back to let them know. They said as long as it is smaller than a gold ball, it is fine. Car is in good condition. No problems returning the car too. I would definitely come back here. I find the prices at the airport are more competitive compared to other places. read more

Love these guys!! Rented a Tahoe long term for the winter and couldn't have had a better experience. The staff and management were so nice and accommodating. They gave me the best rate possible- beat other rates from anywhere in BC and even the states. Arsh one of the managers is the nicest guy ever- always hooked me up and made me feel at ease when I got into a fender bender. I rented a dodge ram 1500 pick up truck. They were 15mins late handing my car. I did a quick check of my car's paint. Returned the car and next thing you know it has a small dent on the chrome bumper. The dent doesnt have any scratch and it only looks like just someone just sat on it. they billed me $1100 for a small dent.. Overcharging . Beware!!! How can you check for dents on a nice shiny chrome bumper. Its hard. They are trying ripped me off read more
