Wow I guess I'm just unlucky. I paid for a car rental through Expedia only to find out that Dollar cannot rent to me because my husband is on the do not rent list. Background is that his ID was stollen by a woman who racked up charges. He tried to dispute it, but they have not allowed him to clear it. Now I'm out almost $300 AND no rental car. I had to go to another provider and paid $600... so I'm almost out a grand... hopefully Expedia refunds me since I never rented a car... this is upsetting. Guess Canada isn't my jam... read more

Stay away from these scam car rental. I have reserved 3 car rental contracts online with Expedia for my big group. I have paid and purchased the collision damage with Expedia as well. When we picked up the car at this location, one contract did not get any extra charge since the driver knew better and did not get scammed by them. The other two drivers were not experienced in traveling, got charged almost $500 CAD each for collision damage, and whatever fees that they scammed. Since all 3 contracts were signed the same way, it's obvious the other two got scammed by these scam artists. Expedia is the same way. I contacted their customer service which somewhere overseas, they' were just so rude, mean and not taking any responsibilities. Stay away from these scam artists! I purchased a car rental online via Priceline and read all of the Dollar Rent A Car terms and conditions. Only when picking up the car at the airport with my family and luggage in tow was I presented with Charge Descriptions. $94.46 PER HOUR the vehicle is returned past its pickup time with no grace period. This charge or the per day charge appears nowhere in their agreement or terms of service when you book and pay for the car on deposit. FYI - this is illegal in Canada - we operate on offer and acceptance. They need to understand this. I called their line to extend the rental was given a certain rate, which was reasonable. I was charged something very different. I just wasted another hour of my time with their complaints line. Well, we'll see what happens with the BBB and the Government. A business CANNOT ambush a customer in this way. read more

Budget Rental Car I felt so discriminated by Budget rental car. It was at 11:00 PM on Sun 4/17 and there was no other customers there. I reserved a compact car at Budget rental car in Vancouver for $25.00 a day. When I was at the counter, I asked the agent if they do a one way drop off to seattle . The agent said only Alamo does it. I told him that is probably why I have a reservation with Budget while I am in Vancouver and have to switch to Alamo when I go to Seattle next week. The Agent , Franco asked me if I want to upgrade to a BMW for a hundred dollar a day. I said no. Then he asked me if I want to upgrade to a Volvo for $50 a day. I said no. Then he asked me which airlines did I fly . I said Air Canada. Franco then said since I flew Air Canada, my Volvo rate is now $35.00 a day. I told him, " I just want the car I reserved for. I have been traveling since 4:00am east coast time (22 hours nor stop with no sleep). I am very tired . I do not want to buy insurance. I do not want to buy gas. Please do not up sell me anything . I just want to pick up there car and go." Of course he still tried to up sell me everything. I went along with him and answer his questions . But then He kept saying his gas is cheaper than outside and I finally said if you don't have the car I reserved for , I would just go to Alamo. At that point the manager , Rome came and said he didn't want to rent me a car anymore , just go to Alamo. As I was going to leave for Alamo, I said no. I had a reservation , they had to rent me a car. The Mgr refused to rent me a car since I threaten to go to Alamo. When I asked for his full name and his business card. He refused to give it to me . The Mgr said I yelled at him and he didn't have to rent me a car. He kept saying if I don't leave, he will call the cops . I kept telling him to call the cops but he didn't . I was trying to take a picture of him but he covered his face and yelled he was going to call the cop.... But he never did... He just covered his face with paper work. I told him I would not leave till I got his car and he should call the cop. He finally gave me his card, I went to Alamo and rented a brand new car at the same price as Budget. I am sure if I were white or a man, he would not treat me that way. I always rent from Budget whenever I go to Vancouver. I will never rent from them again. I am so disappointed at both Franco and Rome. I never called them name. I never swore at them. I only told them no to car upgrade , no to buying insurance, no to pre/purchase gas and I would fill up the gas when I returned. I kept telling them I was tired and just wanted to get the car and go. I'd like to give a special shout out to Steve - he was extremely rude and dismissive when we asked any sort of question. I wish I could give this location zero stars. I literally cannot fathom how there is an entire location with your credit card info and the ability to charge it that YOU CANNOT REACH. It is nearly impossible to call this location and when you're transferred to corporate there's isn't very little they can do for you. My credit card was charged $1300 for an error they made and could have easily fixed it I was just able to get in touch with someone. Finally after a week of calling, it was sorted out but now there is an additional issue and again, no way to get in touch with the airport location. read more

To start off, there were 3 agents or reps at the front desk and only one agent was helping the couple. The other two stood there until one person said you can help them. The agent who helped me only wanted to up sell me with products. He didn't inspect the car and told me to go inspect it myself if there's any damages take pictures or let the guys outside know? What kind of customer service is that? When I told him that I bought online car coverage he answered back "well that's not our coverage so if anything happens you're getting charge." There's a way nicer way for you to state that and try to give me the benefits of your coverage instead of somewhat threatening me that if something happens I'm responsible as though I didn't know that. He gave me the keys and contract and just said my stall #. Honestly why hire people like that when a kiosk can do the same and it's cheaper. My biggest issue is with the prepaid gas, I was more than okay with getting the prepaid fuel but only if I was charged for what I actually used. He kept telling me that you bring it back empty because I'm charging for the full tank? I was like wait how does that make sense. He also attempted to give me a contract without any of my initials and signature so when I asked him for a copy he just said oh you don't need that... it's a legal document it's my right to have it for my record as well. I called into the airport to asked about the prepaid fuel being adjusted for me to either get charged for what I used or remove it as a whole and I'll fill it up myself. An agent, Richard he said his name was, said he cannot do anything and transferred me to the "rental contract department" which of course gave me a dead line after one ring. I used to work for a car rental company and I've never dealt with such poor customer service with a lack of empathy for customers. read more

Arrived for a vacation in Whistler and had prepaid for a week long minivan rental. Staff informed us they could not accept Visa debit cards. They could accept the card upon return but needed a credit card to rent which is different from US policy. I have to admit this was frustrating as we do not carry credit cards as Visa debit has always accommodated us at hotels, car rental agencies, ski rental, snowmobile rental, heli ski purchase, and all restaurants. That left my wife, 6 year old daughter and 11 year old son stranded with no help from the staff...just a not our problem attitude. Once I had told them we had no option and we never had an issue in the US, they told us we should "go back to the f.cking US". Unbelievable, prejudice remark. I was in shock so much and humiliated to unbelievable levels that I had to walk away and gather myself. I spoke to the manager and was told "even if the President of Dollar rent a car wanted to rent with a Visa debit, he could not". No offer to help us resolve our issue. No suggestions. I figured there must be another means of transportation at an International airport and found a bus coach line to take us to to Whistler which was worth every penny. We are moved tremendously by the Dollar Rental agency that will forever affect our view of the company and their staff. It is hard to believe this company and manager treated us in such a profane manner and strongly suggest to anyone renting a car at YVR to use another agency. read more

I am extremely disappointed at the hidden cost of renting a car from Dollar Car Rental via Hotwire. My Mastercard was billed on the originally agreed upon price of C$187.34 taxes in, then to find out that there is another charge of C$45.08 billed as "Premium Location Charge" after the fact. I looked at the original booking details (I have copies of everything) and nowhere was there any mention of this additional cost. I travel a lot on business and pleasure, and I use National, Enterprise etc all the time, and this is the first time I have been charged this "Premium Location Charge". Ridiculous.
