I had a wonderful first experience at my new Dental office. I just transferred to Affinity Dental the other day, because I was in search of a new dentist. Wow! I should have transferred years ago! As soon as I walked in, I was very impressed! This dental office had the most updated equipment and technology that I never even knew existed.. The staff was Great! Annabelle was very welcoming while I was sitting in the waiting room. Christina was the assistant who took my x-rays, assisting Dr. Lu, polishing after my cleaning, etc..Very friendly and professional! Dr. Lu took the time to thoroughly brief me on my dental exam. I used to absolutely dread going to the dentist, but switching to Dr. Lu has completely changed my attitude about that. Dental cleanings and other procedures have never been so painless! The clinic is very clean and organized, and each dental chair is set up with a TV screen that you can watch Netflix on. What better way to distract you while you're getting your teeth cleaned than a movie or TV show? I'm not sure if it's the Netflix that makes cleanings so quick and painless or if Dr Lu and his staff are just extra careful and skilled at not poking at my gums, but the Netflix definitely is a plus! I used to find it so awkward at my old dentist's office where there was nothing to look at besides the dentist's face. And nothing to listen to besides the unpleasant sounds of dental tools.. Aside from the genius Netflix perk, Dr Lu and his staff are all very friendly and personable, and Dr Lu himself is professional and knowledgeable. It's always pleasant chatting with them. Scheduling appointments is super easy too. I really appreciate that they email or call to remind and confirm an appointment, and that they'll call when I'm due for my next cleaning if I hadn't already scheduled it. I'm absolutely terrible when it comes to remembering routine checkups. My old dentist never reached out to me to schedule checkups that I was due for and I ended up not seeing a dentist for a few years as a result, so I definitely appreciate how proactive they are on their end. read more

I'm glad I found this dentist. It had been awhile since I had seen a dentist and I have a fear of them as well! I've had a cleaning and have had a couple fillings now so I can review to both. The office staff is really kind. I like that they send me an email after the 2 appointments for fillings to check in. It was a really easy way to ask a follow up question I had. I appreciate that they offer Saturday appointments so that I don't have to find childcare on a weekday. Watching netflix has been a great way to block out of of the sounds and concentrate on something other than dental work. On top of that, Dr. Lu has been really patient with me and goes really slowly and explains every step to help with my dental anxiety! I'm pleased and I'll continue here! read more

Dr. Lu is great! I have gone to him while in law school and appreciate the $99 Stanford student discount (for those without dental coverage). The office is nice and clean. The best part: they let you watch Netflix during your cleaning and/or procedure. Come in knowing what you want to watch and they'll set you up! read more

WOW! What a fine place. Very clean, and everything is new and high tech. Leather cover seats, feel like you are sitting in a luxury car. They have LCD monitor in every chair, you get to watch a movie or TV show while you get your teeth clean, how cool is that! Dr. Lu is very professional. He takes his time examining you teeth, does a thorough job cleaning the teeth, and is very patient answering all the questions. We highly recommend Dr. Lu to our friends and co-workers. read more

I've been coming to this clinic for several years now and Dr. Lu along with his staff have provided a very courteous and welcoming experience each time. Their equipment is up to date and very patient friendly. They've done a great job at removing the fear from seeing the dreaded dentist! The entire staff is professional and do not carry on with inappropriate conversations nor do they use vulgar language. The clinic is clean,organized and well ventilated so it never feels stuffy. I have my best medical service experience at this dental place. I have been talked to the girls at the reception on the phone back and forth before I decide to really step in. All of them are nice and of fully consideration. Doctor Lu's skills and professional stands out, and he helped me pull out a trick tooth all at once, quickie and nicely. (writing this review from my husband's account!) I switched to the services of Affinity from Smiles Dental, and I am very glad I did. Dr. Lu is a very professional and considerate specialist, and he's friendly and nice too - I never feel like it's all business when I go to his office. His staff, the charming Anabel and Christina, are also kind when it comes to services, and prompt when it comes to appointments. I had many fillings and cleanings done at Affinity in the past year, and my teeth are in the greatest condition they've been in a long time! I am from Bulgaria and my dental care was very inconsistent up until now. My teeth are crowded and I used to have trouble with my gums, as I used to be a smoker. Since I am being seen by Dr. Lu, things are getting back to normal - he has great recommendations about my oral hygiene, and just like other reviewers said, he's honest and very common sense when suggesting treatments. Now I am 36 weeks pregnant, and my gums don't even bleed! I wholeheartedly recommend the services of Dr. Lu and his crew, as I feel that with him I am receiving both a high quality dental care and a friendly attitude at a reasonable cost. read more

I was a patient years ago of Dr. Lu's when he worked primarily out of a San Mateo office. His professionalism, courteous and easy-going manner, frankness, honesty, and most of all, his knowledge was always fantastic! When he opened his own practice, I was not informed of it and was lead to believe he no longer practiced in San Mateo. I saw the other dentists and then dissatisfied, left the San Mateo office. I found Dr. Lu in Mountain View but decided the drive was too long and went to a closer dental office (I live in Pacifica). But while this new dentist was OK, I didn't have the 100% trust & confidence like I had with Dr. Lu. I felt like he was more of a salesman than a dentist. My husband told me, "Look.., you've had 7 dentists in 11 years - if Dr. Lu is the best then the drive to Mt. View is worth it". And so I returned to Dr. Lu and I couldn't be happier! He took the time to work with me on my trouble spots (EVIL Tooth #15!) and with the insurance- taking the time to sift through my plan to give me the best cost coverage for the necessary dental work. And no unnecessary sales-pitches! The Netflix and ultra-technology is great, but I couldn't have cared less. Jackie, his assistant, is wonderful too!! Dr. Alan Lu has been my dentist for six years but I was having to drive all the way to San Mateo to see him. I was thrilled when he opened his own practice in Mtn View. Beautiful office. New, clean equipment. Giant Sharp LCDs in lobby and at every station. Exam chairs covered with buttery soft leather. Dr. Lu always takes the time to explain things clearly. He answers questions I didn't know I wanted ask. And, he is HONEST. I've never gotten the feeling that he's trying to recommend unnecessary procedures. Awesome dentist!!!!! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lu for over a year now. He is caring and very pleasant to talk to. But what won me over was a recent experience. I had my temporary crown done at his office and two days later it broke. I called his cell and it was a Sunday afternoon. He answered and told me to come in. He spent a hour and put another temporary crown for me. I was so grateful. He could have told me to come in the next day or so, then I would have to take time from work again. But instead, he fixed it on Sunday. I would recommend him to anyone, because he is the kind of dentist who truly cares about his patients. read more

So I had jaw pain and headache for almost a week. I went to another dentist a week later -- he fixed the remaining composite that still needed to be filed down. Come to find out Dr. Lu's procedure was so excruciating because he hit and damaged the nerve -- two months later I still have temperature sensitivity in those two teeth that I never had before. Also, a dental second opinion said that the other two teeth Dr. Lu said had cavities and needed to be filled, did not have cavities that needed to be filled. No one from his office even called to follow up after the procedure even though he had said someone would, and he knew I was not happy with the procedure when I left his office. read more
