I have mixed feelings because there were so many things I genuinely loved about this office. The front desk staff was always friendly and welcoming--special shoutout to Angie, who was always kind and helpful. Dr. Bhawna did a wonderful job with my dental care. I had deep cleanings, fillings, and Invisalign treatment, and she always made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the process. One thing that really stood out was how accommodating the team was with my 3-year-old. I occasionally had to bring him to my appointments, and the staff would turn on cartoons and help keep him entertained during my procedures. That kindness meant a lot to me and made a stressful situation much easier. Unfortunately, I did run into repeated issues with billing. I have very good dental insurance, and I agreed to several recommended treatments because I was told they would be covered. However, I ended up paying hundreds of dollars out of pocket. When I contacted my insurance company, I was told that some claims or supporting documentation had not been submitted in a timely manner. I understand that insurance can be complicated, but after it happened more than once, it became frustrating and left me with unexpected expenses. Another challenge was scheduling. I was frequently called and asked to reschedule my appointments, which became inconvenient over time and made it difficult to plan around my busy work schedule. There were also a few moments where the office felt a bit disorganized. For example, I went in expecting to pick up my retainer after completing Invisalign, but I was unexpectedly given another set of Invisalign trays instead. I was also told to expect a call when they were ready for pick up, which never happened. I also had a positive interaction with D.A V (Marco), who was professional and so caring. However, my overall experience was deeply troubling. I came in already in significant distress. The financial discussions felt rushed and heavily focused on upfront charges. When I asked questions about items I did not fully understand or agree with, I've got a lot of attitude in return. After my procedure, while I was still in the chair and actively bleeding they decided that it's time to get some more money out of me. When I asked for clarification regarding the charges, instead of receiving calm and professional communication, I experienced what felt like raised voices and a dismissive tone from the administrative staff member (Emma). At that moment, I was vulnerable and physically uncomfortable, and the interaction added unnecessary emotional distress. During the procedure itself with Dr. Gupta, the administration of anesthesia was extremely painful and felt forceful. I required additional injections before the procedure was completed, which was really painful. Gum injections are not fun, obviously, but two doctors before her would pause, ask if I needed a moment, or more numbing or, if it's ok to proceed. In general, they would show compassion and care. Additionally, during surgery, a phone rang in the doctors pocket, which I found distracting and concerning during a delicate procedure. In a surgical setting, focus and professionalism are critical. Patients seeking urgent dental care are often anxious and in pain. They deserve clear communication, respectful treatment, and reassurance -- especially when discussing finances and undergoing surgery. Based on my experience, I did not feel that level of care was consistently present. Not even simple human compassion of any sort. Just about the money and more money. I strongly encourage prospective patients to ask detailed questions about treatment plans and charges in advance and to consider obtaining a second opinion before proceeding with extensive procedures. Based on my experience, I would not return or recommend it to anyone. I paid everything they asked me ($2200) and even a bogus 10% of the bill charge for whatever, and I did not receive the solution of the problem I came with. The administrator I paid to was actively disappointed, even I paid cash she asked. She appeared visibly irritated and was openly discussing me with other staff members right next to me, within earshot. They tried moving me off the plan at ~5 months. I had to argue with the dentist and aides that this was not what I was expecting at all. Who gets invisalign for 5 months? Where did the initial estimation even come from, and where did it go? It seemed like there was zero communication between the staff. - Was billed twice for a monthly payment. Tried resolving it and it took MULTIPLE visits to resolve. Each time, I was told that I would be receiving the refund within the next week. Eventually one did come but this was after multiple visits of me telling them the same thing. - They barely check their emails. Don't even bother emailing appointments@sunnyvaledentalcare.com. Just call instead. When I called and told them about this, the representative waffled around and said they didn't have access to the computer where that email was logged into on (???), told me the staffer that managed that account was out for that week (???). I had filed a complaint against Dr. Bhawna Gupta with the California Dental Board in early 2024 because she exaggerated the treatment that I needed and recommended expensive laser treatments like deep cleaning and LANAP and shaving my throat with laser etc. She also told me that my bite was very off and I absolutely need to correct it but after taking opinions from three other dentist - my bite is normal, my gums are healthy and ruled out any necessary treatment other than just the regular cleaning twice a year. However, in October 2024, Dr. Gupta filed fraud charges for treatment in Oct'24 when I had never visited her office after Mar'24. My insurance company agreed that they had filed fraud claims. VERY VERY IMPORTANT- Please file complaint with the California Dental Board for any unethical dental practices like poor quality of care, poor hygiene, overprescribing treatments, financial frauds, etc. read more

But, first, they should still get an x-ray there. Not knowing much, my parents agreed. After the x-ray, they were told that the x-ray is not that useful, and they will need to do it again at their other branch. And they were then charged a high fee for them. I'm thankful I was able to get an extraction same day but unfortunately not only did they not have ice packs , I also had to fight tooth and nail for pain meds. I just had a whole tooth ripped out of jaw and they stated "ibuprofen or Tylenol". Dr Sah and this clinic pulled off an amazing feat. My 98 year old mother suffered long term pain and sensitivity in one side of her mouth and was chewing food only on the other side for many months. She did not want her troubling, infected tooth / teeth extracted and replaced by a partial denture. Dr Sah after a detailed examination concluded that her tooth (with a shallow surface crack and extensively infected root) could indeed be saved with a root canal followed by fitting a zirconium crown. It has all worked out better (and faster) than we realistically hoped for. She uses an implant robot to help in my procedure. A few months ago I had my first procedure done. It was a lot of work. I only needed to take a pain killer for three days with such a difficult procedure. My tooth, number 19, is located way back in my mouth. It was a lot of work. The results are great. I had had the same dentist for about 30 years before he retired, and every time he had to poke me with a needle, he was gentle and understanding of my anxiety. And I never shed a tear. But Sunnyvale Dental Care is a rough and tumble kind of place. I'm surprised they didn't just tell me to toughen up! Because that's the attitude they bring into administering numbing. One of my main problems with them was instead of giving me a root canal on a tooth that needed one, they opted to put a crown on the tooth instead. Only to have them drill through my new crown to perform a root canal Two weeks later! The doctors who perform the root canals move around. They are not in-house. And they only come on Wednesdays and Saturdays. When I went in for a root canal, one doctor started it, and then two weeks later, when I came in to have the root canal finished, it was a completely different doctor. And that made me nervous. And I should have known better. Because it was one of the most horrendous, painful experiences I have ever had. Borderline traumatizing, and that is not an exaggeration. To start off with, the doctor, who was finishing up, the root canal, did not put numbing gel where he planned on sticking me with the needle, and he literally just stabbed at my gums, instead of being gentle, and doing what normal dentists do when they are sticking a needle in you. He literally just stabbed me to the point where I was full on crying and shaking. Trembling. They didn't care. But the worst part was yet to come. The appointment took so long because he was constantly getting up and checking on other situation's going on in other rooms. I don't think he sat still for longer than two minutes before he would have to get up. He probably got up around 15 times during the duration of the session. and every time he would sit down to work on me, he would let out a sigh of exasperation, which clearly did not give me any confidence in what he was doing whatsoever. not to mention, he told me that the root canal doctor, who had started my root canal 10 days prior, had not really done anything! Like what? The worst part was the dental assistant did not have the vacuum situated towards the back of my throat where it needed to be should any of the sodium hypochlorite leak past the barrier. Sodium hypochlorite is dental bleach. And I can tell you right now, when that leaks past the barrier and gets into your throat, it is absolutely horrifying. The sodium hypochlorite started pooling in the back of my throat, and I was unable to breathe, and there was no way I was about to swallow that... and instant human reaction is to sit up and tear the stuff out of my mouth so that I could cough up the bleach before I swallowed any more of it! By the way, I should mention, this is not my first rodeo with root canals, as I had had two performed on me a few years prior by a root canal specialist, who I absolutely adored. In any case, when I tore out the barrier and everything out of my mouth, so I could cough up the bleach, the dentist was beside himself. He even accused me of lying about the bleach going to the back of my throat, because he said it was impossible. It's actually not impossible. And my throat was burning for 24 hours after the experience. Not to mention, nobody called me, or texted me from the office to ask me how I was doing and if everything was OK the following day. If you are looking for a new dentist, I suggest you steer clear of this place, because it really seems like the only thing they are interested in is selling Invisalign, and it was mentioned to me almost every appointment I came in for. Pain management should be of their utmost concern and that is not what happens at this place. Upon the recommendation from someone, I know, I did find a dentist who completely took care of my situation and even though I had to pay for the new crown, this new dentist I went to was super knowledgeable super nice and understands the anxiety most patients bring into a dentist office. When I was injected with the numbing medication, it was like I almost didn't even feel it because of how gentle she was. This is the experience you're supposed to have! You aren't supposed to be cringing and shaking, and in tears when you go to the dentist office! The nurse (not sure what they're called), her name is Jessica, was soooo empathetic and kind to me, making sure to make me feel comfortable during uncomfortable procedures.
