One of my least favorite doctors is a dentist. It is one of the few appointments that fills me with tremendous anxiety. I have extremely sensitive teeth so every 6 months I steel myself for the necessary cleaning. Up until Dr. Stein, I couldn't see a dentist without being "sold" what I knew were unnecessary treatments or procedures from dentists trying to pressure me to come in for cleanings every 3 months, deep cleaning treatments, implants, even though I had been told I did not have enough bone to place a post, etc...While I liked my previous dentist, his office did a bait and switch. The office scheduled my 6 month appt and never told me my dentist left the practice so I was "assigned" another dentist without getting a letter that my dentist had left. I have a PPO and was stunned to not learn this until I was in the chair for a cleaning. After the hygienist finished, she scheduled my next appt. but I never saw my new dentist. This continued over the next year and a half. I had never experienced a cleaning where the dentist didn't come in, check the work and make sure everything was fine. After a year and a half I asked "so, am I EVER going to meet this mystery dentist I was assigned to?". I was told she didn't work on the days I was scheduled. I mentioned I was having issues and the "hygienist" offered me advice not a dentist, so I was done. Dr. Stein spent about an hour with me during my initialnew patient appt - talking with me, learning about me before he ever examined me. I explained what I had gone through and true to his word, he told me even if I was just there for a cleaning, he'd pop in after to just make sure everything looked ok. Of course, if I had a problem, which luckily, I haven't, I'd see him for an actual visit. He is not only extremely knowledgeable but is interested in his patients not just their teeth. His hygienist knows how nervous I get before a cleaning and is ready with numbing gel and is extremely gentle. I feel so grateful I found Dr. Stein. He's extremely busy so I make sure to book my next appointment before I ever his office. read more

I was a prospective patient who was looking forward to Dr. Stein becoming my new dentist, but was unfortunately met with dismissal and ignorance. I am clinically vulnerable and living with other clinically vulnerable people, so I have been in desperate search of dentists who continue to take -- or are willing to take -- extended precautions to make dental care accessible to me, per the ADA. After reading on Dr. Stein's website about the implementation of HEPA filters, respirators, face shields, and patients being seen one at a time, I felt this was a practice I could safely receive treatment in. I replied to their e-mail with my new patient forms and left a voicemail afterhours detailing that I had questions about the practice. After over a week of radio silence and being in great pain, I finally called the office again today to inquire about these listed precautions: whether they were still in practice or if the clinic would be willing to reinstate them for my visit. While there is a HEPA filter "maybe" in "one of his rooms", according to the staff member I spoke with on the phone "the pandemic is over" and "we don't have to walk around in *respirators*". Allegedly the staff also did not receive my voicemail OR e-mail, though the person on the phone confirmed I had the correct e-mail address. I am not sure why my request was treated as unreasonable or fringe, as these accommodations were listed on a page of Dr. Stein's website specifically touting his pride in being "one of the few offices in the San Fernando Valley that provides a level of infection control beyond that mandated by federal and state requirements". Dr. Stein's site also mentions accommodations like anesthesia and a minimum number of appointments for anxious patients, so it is incredibly disappointing that alleviating patients' anxiety does not extend to adopting previously-employed infection control protocols. Either remove this page of precautions from the website so you don't provide false information about your services and practices, or please instruct your staff to not add insult to injury to an already very marginalized population when they ask about the services you advertise. Dental care is still healthcare, and the lack of response to my voicemail or e-mail followed by the dismissal I received was very unprofessional. read more

WARNING: NEVER EVER GO HERE FOR YOUR DENTAL NEEDS. NEVER GO HERE! MY UPDATE FOR 2019 I WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT I'M STILL MISSING A TOOTH BECAUSE OF DR. STEIN. TO REPLACE IT WOULD COST $6,000 BUT THEN AGAIN IT WON'T BE MY REAL (HEALTHY) TOOTH. For 15+ years, my family and I were patients of Dr. Stein. Over the years, none of us needed more then the occasional cavity filled and regular cleanings. I TRUSTED HIM AND I TRUSTED HIM WITH MY CHILDREN Last October (2015) Dr. Stein told me I had a broken tooth (one of my back molars), again I TRUSTED HIM although I didn't see that anything was wrong with my tooth and I didn't feel that anything was wrong with my tooth. But I TRUSTED him as I had been his patient for 15+ years. We set up an appointment for him to fix it and put on a crown; after he drilled my tooth, I was in horrendous pain for over a week; I had to come in for him to drill it again to alleviate the pain and also take an impression for a crown; the pain was still horrible even on the day I was fitted for the crown. I then had three separate infections (my new dentist put me on antibiotics 3 separate times; I was trying to save the tooth). When my tooth became infected for the third time, I had to have it removed. Cost for the Drilling & Crown Dr. Stein: $1200 Cost for new dentist fixing it New Dentist $500 2015: I also had unnecessary work done May 2015, June 2015, costing a total of $554 which also caused me extensive pain. Again fixing teeth that I didn't even know needed correction, again before the drilling/corrections, I had no idea anything was wrong and I had no pain. 2014: Dr. Stein told me I had a broken molar; he drilled to fix it and I was in horrendous pain; this cost me another $395 for the drilling/fixing the tooth. The result of Dr. Stein drilling to fix my broken molar was a root canal $1448. I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO HIM AGAIN. I used to think he was the best dentist and I TRUSTED HIM TO DO THE RIGHT THING. I got taken twice. Shame on me for trusting him again and again. read more

I first met Dr. Stein in 2002 after a horrific motorcycle accident. Back then I was the type of person that hated going to the dentist, but Dr. Stein really made it as painless and comfortable for me as possible. As a result of my accident I required many reconstructive procedures which put me in his office at least once a month for the better part of three years. As you can imagine I got to know him and his staff very well and I appreciate all the help that they've given me over the last several years. They were all very nice and worked with my insurance companies to make it as easy on me as possible (thanks Stephanie!) Now 10 years, and eight implants later, I am able to smile big and I really wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't for Dr. Stien and his staff. I still frequent his office once a quarter for my regularly cleaning and anything else I might need.
