I was desperate when the main sewer line went bad on my property, and was backing up awful gunk everywhere. I needed someone honest to come diagnose, tear out a ton on concrete, dig, redo everything. My bids were all over the map. Matthew Kelly came as a recommendation from a neighbor. He and his crew were on time, did more work than I'd anticipated, explained everything to me, and actually diagnosed the problem accurately. He ended up planning a whole plan of attack. We hired Matthew for a voluntary strengthening project after he was referred to us by our engineer. This included adding shear walls, blocking, and adding bolts to the foundation, as well as arranging for a special inspector, arranging, and leading all inspections. This was our first time having such a project done on our house, and Matthew was fantastic to work with. He explained the project every step of the way, provided very accurate timing estimates, answered all of our questions patiently, and left us confident that we knew what was certain, and where we may come to some crossroads at which point we might need to have a conversation and make decisions. When we did need to engage with a plumber, Matthew was flexible to meet our preferred plumber's schedule for them to move pipes as he installed the shear walling, and he arranged an electrician to move the piping that was in the way. We communicated via email, text, and spoke a couple of times during the project, and the carpenter & laborer he brought onto the project were also friendly and great to work with. Matthew and his team do great work! We selected Matthew Kelly Construction after a referral from friends after several contractors put in bids. This is not the case where the lowest bid wins, instead it was the proposal process that stands out. MK's attention to detail, estimation, and callouts of risk areas were essential for our project. We required a structural foundation, and shoring to hold our second story deck and roof in place throughout. Other bidders had difficulty articulating a shoring approach. Matthew and his team did a great job proposing a solution. We began with a small pre-construction contract to make sure upper deck cantilever supports were sound - they were, and that reassurance really helped us, esp. when there is so much on the line. Once work began, they did a great job communicating, keeping the jobsite clean, and helping coordinate engineering alignment and inspections. They moved quickly to get things done before the rainy season began. They also helped us implement cripple wall earthquake retrofitting.
