We went to look at bikes for my son's 5th birthday. It's going to be a surprise. To our surprise, the bike and color he wanted was on display at Bicycle Warehouse. We decided to buy it. Every tag on the store on every bike states the included the "ready to ride" set up fee. The bike we wanted said $350 and includes $25 Ready to Ride. I went to look at helmets, Walter was already ringing up my husband. Where he attempted to pull a bait and switch with the tag. He rang it up at $350 PLUS $25 set up fee. When my husband asked to see the tag, he would not show it and then said it was wrong, looked on the official bike site and THEN held up a smaller bar code tag that stated $325. (Not our fault). He was being shady, and then stated "I'll take off $20". This is a $5 difference. It's the principle of the bait and switch tactics. He was quick to take off $20 because he knew he wasn't being honest. He never stated while we were asking questions at the bike at the display that it was actually a different price. He dampened a really fun experience of buying a bike for our son's birthday. We didn't walk out excited by the bike, we walked out feeling gross. We have bikes- he asked that- we could've been repeat customers had he not pulled this. It's a terrible practice and we won't be going back. We didn't buy the helmet- and the only reason we didn't walk out was because the bike my son wanted was there in store; the color is hard to come by. We bought the bike- as you can see on the receipt the bike is $330 with a $25 fee. If all the tags stated (as you can see in the various price points that the RTR fee is INCLUDED) why would the math not math? The Riprock coaster (picture included) 16" was the same price as the 20". We bought the 20". Same tag same price same INCLUDED FEE. It's shame that this was the experience of trying to buy local. read more

If you need any repairs on a road bike Go to Trek! I had given this place another chance despite my previous review. On my ride my bikes front brake locked on me. The shifters had been loosened by the mechanic and when moved the brakes would lock. My other bike had a worn through back wheel despite asking for worn components removed. I spent $1k on this place. I want to add as an update that Trek was kind enough to tighten the shifters bike warehouse loosened on my bike for free and helped me get a new tire they replaced on the spot. Bike Warehouse has 3 flaws that respectfully keep it from being a good destination for bike repairs. 1. They don't fix you bike at the store, they ship it to someone else. As a result all changes take a week at best (they had my bike 3 weeks) and you have no communication with the mechanic. 2. They are extremely pricey and the bike warehouse cashier not the mechanic will call often throughout the week to up the price of the repair. Think about this, the repairs are done somewhere else, take twice as long obviously to save money, yet the money saved is not passed on to the customer at all. 3. They do a terrible job. I never in my life had my shifters loosened on a ride before. read more

They charge $125 as a hidden fee to assemble your bike. Not only that but my brake pads fell off once I got home (luckily I was not injured). I was told it would take 4 days to replace brake pads but it's now been two weekends that I haven't been able to use my bike. Way better off going to TREK across the street. read more

I have been to the San Marcos Bicycle warehouse several times and have always been impressed by the staff working there. I took my bike in for service a few months back and because of Covid was told the turnaround time was 3 weeks. I was a little upset ( not at them ) just because I wouldn't be able to ride for so long. I got the call saying my bike was ready in a little less than two weeks. The same time I took my bike in for service, I talked to the employee asking if I needed new tires. I have the gatorskins with about 2,000 miles on them. I was fully prepared for him to say, "yup, you need new tires, I'll add it on." Instead he talked me out of it. Said my tires still had a good 1,000 - 1,500 miles left. How often do you get talked out of spending money at a store? Most recently, I purchased a Knight Rider headlight & taillight set. The headlight stopped charging so I took it in. Without question they handed me a new one. I know that is knight rider with their warranty, but still. I've taken things in for warranty work and had to answer a million questions because the place didn't want to handle it. Everyone at this store has been super friendly and extremely helpful. I'll continue buying gear and having my bike maintenance performed to them. I highly recommend this shop, I can't say I've dealt with more honest and friendly people anywhere. read more

This review is overdue, as it spans a world before & late into a pandemic, & covers 2 locations now that they've recently moved... For anything & everything bicycles, Bicycle Warehouse looks to be a good option & resource. Being happy with my current ride, a carbon hardtail 29er, all of my experiences with Bicycle Warehouse have been service oriented. I ride hard. Things break sometimes. When they have, Bicycle Warehouse San Marcos has fixed it for me, good as new, more than once. My latest incident was taking a gnarly hit to my rear wheel which broke a spoke. To get rolling again, this was my 1st visit to the new San Marcos location, off Las Posas, & visible from the 78. But the very 1st time walking into this new store was a false start. Because it was only a single broken spoke on a wheel, I thought I only needed to bring in the wheel. Since my last service at Bicycle Warehouse, they've changed policy such that the whole bicycle needs to be submitted for service. Not particularly convenient. I might have known about this, but contacting someone here for questions wasn't especially easy either. I tried calling & the chat, but neither was responsive. So, it took a trip here to find out, & then a trip back with the whole bicycle to get service. It took 2 weeks for the service to be completed. I have no gripes about that whatsoever. With the world the way it is right now, that's an expected outcome. Staff here each time was very friendly & helpful. Like my previous services, the repair made my wheel feel good as new. For future service needs, the new Bicycle Warehouse San Marcos location is still an OK option. I'll just know the whole bike has to go. & hopefully it's possible to get a hold of someone for questions next time. Honestly, though, my previous experiences at the old location were better. read more

After ordering and assembling my 5 year old's bike, I realized one of the pedals kept coming off no matter what I did. So, instead of throwing the bike out the window, I brought it to Bicycle Warehouse. The problem was quickly diagnosed- the pedal had some cross-threading issues and I needed a new pedal. Easy fix and my kiddo was super happy! Thank you to the two nice employees who quickly fixed his bike and played along with his crazy sticker obsession! I'll be back! read more

Surprised and not happy. Last year I took my sons mountain bike in to have them do a tune up because he fell off. Needed new shifters, and cable, etc. Got it back and was happy and fine. Hasn't ridden it a lot but one of the shifters needs an adjustment. Called in and no one answers the phone. They have an automated system that is not customer friendly. If you don't leave a message they look up your phone number on caller ID and call back later saying "sorry looks like we missed your call". Anyway, I explained my sons bike needed a minor adjustment, had tuned there last year... he said - well.. if the bike wasn't purchased here we won't work on it. WOW... I guess they should have told me this last year before they worked on it. I guess they have new rules. "Buy with us or ride the bus... to the next shop down the street".... go away. Ok, they got my attention. I'll go away and take my busienss elsewhere. Unfortunately it's my son that suffers because he still can't ride his bike. read more

We also ordered a bike rack through their website. A glitch in their system occurred which resulted in a great deal for me. Great at selling bikes - terrible at servicing what they sell. Someone stole the rear wheel of my Talon mountain bike and visited the San Marcos shop to have the rear wheel replaced - the price quoted was about the same as the cost of the bike: $650.00! I called the company office twice to see if a lower price to replace the wheel, gears and required parts could be less expensive and received the same very expensive quote. I did have rear wheel replaced by another bike shop - same exact tire, gears and parts, for $185. Nice shop - poor service and poor customer service follow up. :-( read more

Not to long ago, I got a flat tire riding my bycicle to work. So I stopped at this place to see if I could get some help. One of the guys there at the front desk help me out with giving me the right tools. I ended up doing everything (because I'm usually used to fixing any minor issues like this) But I also walked out with a mini tire bump (and I also got 20% off!) especially because they bump I bought was a little high in price. I wasn't sure how to install it but then the same guy (forgot his name) also showed me how to do it and really has helped me for future flat tire issues. Thanks! read more

Way over priced for simple repairs. Came in for a brake Bleed and they quoted $200. I purchased a 1000 cc of shimano mineral oil new resin brake pads and a brake Bleed kit for less $75. It's not rocket science to fix brakes on a bike, why charge as though it is. read more

I will never bike a e-bike from this place again..everything is shipped out, even a simple flat tire fix since they carry no service technicians staff in their locations. Turn around estimates is always 2 to 4 weeks..totally unacceptable for bike commuters! No loaner bike or rental option to cover the possible service gap...They're all about making the sales and customers till you need something done then it all downhill really quick....Never again and will not be referring them to any other e-bike consumers!! read more

I just bought a new bike online and needed to make some changes/customizations for safety and comfort so I rode to the store. The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and had a part I needed and installed it. The insert to raise the handlebars was perfect and they also pumped up the front fork so that the give better matched my weight. In addition, they pointed out a potential defect and/or safety issue with the bike so that I could check with the seller whether it was a defect or a feature. I purchased a 24 x 21 for my Sun elect and found that the tire is too big. Picks up gravel and didn't clear the front fender. So I put a 24 x 195 that was recommended. My question is can the 24 x 2.1 be mounted with a pair of 24 x2.1 on the rear wheels. The rear wheels are only 1: wide. Just looking for a softer ride of about 45lbs. Any suggestions? read more

I knew I needed a bike for my daily commute, but I wasn't sure where to start since I'm not very knowledgeable with bikes. The Bicycle Warehouse was a great place to go to get a bike, the staff were very knowledgeable and helped me a lot with selections. Brett was very helpful with showing me how to use the functions of the e-bike just the way I wanted so that it wasn't overwhelming to me at first and I could work my way up to the higher speeds. This is a really nice bike shop. Stopped in and visited with the staff and chatted about bikes for a good 20 minutes. These guys know there stuff! Danny and Louie were great! Knowledgeable and friendly staff will keep me coming back to this shop which is just around the corner from my house. Louie and I walked the shop and he shared info about the Giant MTB line, and after asking me polite questions about my riding style and needs, he recommended the Trance line. It turns out the shop is hosting a demo day tomorrow....so cool! I will head out and see about demoing one of these cool bikes. Thanks for the great service Danny and Louie! Ok, I can be a tough customer I know. I check pricing and educate myself before I spend my money on what I think are big purchases. Jesse and Erik were very helpful and let me test out the bikes I was interested in. I've bought 3 bikes from the Bling Boys, and Jackson / Sean were very helpful. The owner kept bringing bikes into the mix I had zero interest in. Jesse never tried to switch my interest to any other bike. He didn't even have the bike at his store, but never tried to land me on something just to make a sale. Good people and I want a Santa Cruz 5010 to call my own. (carbon S build for the wife) I only took one star away because he wouldn't give me a free 4K bike for free. Another Obama lie..... Edit. I added a star to my review.
