There's an inherent health risk to eating raw oysters, and my hubby found this out the hard way after downing a dozen from Alaskan Oyster Shack. Now I don't necessarily blame the establishment (they publish tons of warnings and you consume these at your own risk), but the food poisoning he got here did leave my hubby out of commission for two days during our cruise to Alaska. So be aware. The shack is located right off the cruise dock in Ketchikan. The day we visited, they had two varieties on offer: Blue Starr and Canoe Lagoon. Hubby got a dozen sampler plate for $40 before tax and tip. The couple running the Shack were very friendly and chatty, and they made us feel so welcome. This is a strictly outdoor restaurant, so we grabbed a picnic table along the water. The oysters looked nice and fresh, and they smelled of the sea. Nothing was "off" about them at all. They were served with the traditional mignonette sauces that were very good. I didn't eat any oysters, so I didn't get sick. But my hubby sure did, and within a couple of hours of eating here. I don't really think I can recommend this place but then again, it was his choice to consume raw shellfish. Just be careful and be aware in case you get a bad batch.

Cute little walk up window with picnic tables on the pier. We ordered half a dozen oysters which were big and fresh. The guy at the window was kind and informative. Quick service. They have a variety of local hot sauces too! We sat and ate cold oysters and watched seaplanes land and take off! Super cool experience.

9/9/2925 - This is a popup store that is just located right at the Exit Gate of each cruese ship at the Berth 4 at the Port of Ketchikan, Alaska. The Oyster is fresh, but expensive at $5 each. The staff is very friendly.

Max is an oyster lover. I am not. The weather was beautiful today and we decided to get Max his fix before we boarded our ship. Max got three different oysters. The two ladies who worked inside the shack were very friendly.

My husband said these were the best oysters he has had in a long time. Nice big oysters!!

Great stop for oysters. Order at the counter and plenty of space to sit. We ordered 2 dozen oysters and they came out fairly quick. No one else was there as it was an odd time but definitely recommend. Oysters were fresh and liked the unique mignonette and hot sauces. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable.

fresh oysters! yes we had some even after the delicious king crab legs we got. great services, wish they would have some beer on tap to go with the oysters!

Best oysters I've had in a while - extremely creamy and fresh. My only advice is to get 6 dozens instead of 3.... Because you might not find any at your next cruise stop

This is such an awesome place, owned by long time Ketchikan residents. Let me tell you: you won't find oysters this fresh anywhere else! They source all of their oysters locally, helping other local area businesses and offering you a taste of the fresh Alaskan ocean! You can definitely taste the difference. They also have a handful of sauces and accoutrement to complement your oysters. In the afternoons they also offer grilled oysters and their secret seasoning mix is to die for! Come quick, they only have a limited supply every day! It's also great to support locally owned and operated businesses!

Delicious oysters! Tastes very fresh and I love the sauce that comes with it! Friendly service and cute Alaskan vibe with outdoor tables to sit at.

Super fresh and delicious flavor!!! Most definitely the grilled oysters are the way to go!

Big place, fast service: draft beers while we waited for our order; shared tables, tasty Oysters and the price was right.

The line was pretty long when we arrived, and we ended up waiting in the rain for about 30 minutes…read more However, with cruise ships in port, that was to be expected, and the line moved surprisingly fast. Once inside, you place your order at the counter and are seated afterward. One thing to note: if you're a smaller party and the restaurant is busy, you may be seated with other guests. It felt a little unusual at first, but it wasn't a big deal. My husband ordered the Dungeness crab, and I went with the Alaska Sampler, which features three different types of fish served fish-and-chips style. The fries are their signature mesquite-seasoned fries, and honestly, they worked perfectly with the seafood. As someone currently working on a YouTube video about our Alaska cruise experience, I can honestly say this was some of the best fish and chips I had during our trip. My husband also loved his crab and said the meat was incredibly fresh, tender, and flavorful. They don't sell alcohol at the ordering counter, but once you're seated, there's a small bar in the back where you can purchase drinks. We tried the Double Shovel Appalanche Cider and absolutely loved it. Overall, aside from the communal seating, we really enjoyed our experience. I especially appreciated their unique take on fish and chips. Being originally from Cape Cod, I take my seafood pretty seriously, and this place definitely delivered!

We arrived around 10:30 am for lunch (lol) so, of course, there wasn't a line or crowd of people…read more They're located next to the lumberjack experience. The place is bigger than it looks as there are two dining areas. You order and pay at the counter. We went overboard and ordered three entrees of fish and chips because that's what they feature. Deep-fried Salmon, DF Cod, and DF Halibut. Plus, we tried their Smoked Salmon chowder. Cod was the best, Salmon was weird, and Halibut was good. The fries and chowder were also decent. Overall, we had a fine meal but nothing really stood out as outstanding.

First greeted by the hostess to seat us. Place was full and very nice and clean. Casual atmosphere…read moreand you were able to hear each other's voices. We both enjoyed the halibut fish and chips which were amazing! Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Ketchikan Alaska!

I ordered a king crab leg, crab cake, and chowder combo…read more Three must haves for a true Alaskan trip. The crab was ok, honestly tasted like the much much cheaper snow crab to me, wasn't worth the cost but still part of the Alaskan experience. The crab cake was pretty small, good but small. The chowder was pretty thick and gravy like from chowders I've had. The food was good, nothing worth going back for, but good for the experience. This is where we go from a 3-4 star review to a 1-2 star review. I'm being nice. When the check came they added a 20 percent auto gratuity. I usually do 20% but when it's a single combo plate and the majority of the plate is one thawed crab leg.... Come on , really!!! Do an auto 15% maybe 18% with the option of adding more. That's the standard. What got me was a 4% service fee. I asked what it was for and the employee told me ," we don't get that, I guess it's for the kitchen staff or the owner, I don't really know". Why am I paying a service fee for .... Well nothing! (Crab legs are about $100 each which is the average price ) so $4 per crab leg goes to the evil greedy owner. So $4x 8 legs on a crab = about $32 per crab just because . Tax... expected and the law. But a credit card fee.... Even for debit (against the law). Not looking so good for the owner. So to sum it up Food was good, nothing to celebrate about. I actually can't complain about the service , it was good. But the extra fees are where the ship sinks. Stop taking advantage of tourists and your restaurant won't be empty, and it was very empty when I was there. Should have seen it as a red flag . Do better!!!
