Classic staple in downtown Ketchikan. I've been here several times over the years, from when I lived here and when I came back to visit after years of living elsewhere. Great options for coffee, sandwiches, salads and soups. I've mostly eaten here during breakfast and lunch. Food quality is great and highly recommend the salmon burger. Seating is limited, so I would recommend calling ahead if you have a large group to see if they can accommodate you. FYI, to access the restroom at the restaurant, it does require going up a few short steps. Otherwise, classic restaurant staple in Ktown. read more

This place is unexpectedly good. Big city flavors in rural Alaska. We tried goat cheese/smoke salmon scramble, chicken fried steak, Nutella French toast, and biscuits and gravy. We visited the New York Cafe with locals after all the cruise ships had left for the day. It is definitely kind of a small place, so that may be a consideration on busy days. The menu is not large, but has enough choices and some interesting items. We tried a few things, but the halibut fish and chips is the star of the menu here. We wanted a place to eat in Ketchikan and asked for recommendations at the nearby museum and they suggested the New York Cafe which seemed a bit odd as it did not sound "Alaskan." Turns out it has a long history of over 100 years in the community and is well worth a visit as it really has great food, service and a "locals" feel to it. Not a huge space but thankfully not a long wait to get a table. Due to the name I'm guessing many visitors like us might assume it is not authentic in its Alaskan roots but it most assuredly is. New york cafe is such a gem. The food is delicious and portion sizes are generous. The wait staff are friendly and professional. More over, i absolutely loved the vibe of the cafe. All patrons were enjoying their food and chatting away. The cafe's history is incredible- started in 1911 by a japanese family, this establishment truly has withstood the test of time. Very chill vibes, lovely efficient staff and great food. While still touristy, this is far enough away from the main drag that you've weeded out some cruisers. Halibut fish and chips was fried to perfection - light and crisp. Fries were great too. Hummus plate was lovely and garlicky. What a great spot! We asked a local where the best spot for coffee was and they named this place, without hesitation. It's steeped in history, which is posted on a plaque on the side of building. We walked in and were immediately able to find a place to sit. The barman gave us a recommendation and served our coffee up right away. It's a chill place with a welcoming vibe. read more

Before coming to Ketchikan we saw the great reviews for New York Cafe. We were not disappointed and were very happy we went. Excellent service even though every table was full. Worth the wait. Standing at the bar we had the local ale, Tiger's Blood. Absolutely amazing! After getting a table we had two of the garlic scallops, salmon chowder and fish and chips. Best meal in town. Ok, I said this before in my other reviews commenting on my most favorite comfort meals... Fish and Chips... The New York Cafe is genuinely the most superior fried cod that I have tasted in my long history of fish n' chips tasting. The flakey cod is superior and fresh. The batter is nothing that I have tasted before. Prepared perfectly ... the paragon of all fish n' chips batter. I am not using exaggerated words or hyperbole. I had the perfect accompaniment to the excellent fish n' chips...a pineapple-apple draft cider. The cafe has Greek Diner/New York roots, but with Alaskan ambiance. Excellent and friendly servers. The Scallops with Risotto was delicious. Every morning we stopped by to get a caramel latte and a baklava to go. Their coffee was perfect & we fought over the baklava. Love this cute little cafe! I've been eating here for six years and am still in love. Food and sauces made in house with quality ingredients. Locally owned and loved by locals and tourists alike. I'm obsessed with the mezze platter--which is vegetarian, and I'm an omnivore who never orders salads! It's just so good. I always ask for a side of harissa sauce to go with.. do recommend. This is such a great restaurant. First off the location off the end of Creek St is pretty cool. It's fun to see the Salmon running and the seals eating. The views from the front windows are great looking out towards the water. The service here was great. In my two visits (it was a very short walk from my hotel) the food was fantastic! I had the halibut fish and chips my first visit. They were perfection! The batter was light and crunchy and the fish was light and flakey. My second visit I had the small beef kabob platter. The meat was a fuzz over cooked, but tasted great. The hummus was delicious! I could have had a plate of that by itself! Great view, great food, and great service!!! read more

We found this spot through Yelp while along our Alaskan cruise adventure and boy was it wonderful! The walk through town was refreshing and this is the perfect location to stop for a bit and then head through the rest of the board walk area. Our waiter was fun, kindly made room for our large group of 11 and made some great recommendations! I will say for a celiac there are not a lot of options.... However the salad with halibut was wonderful! read more

Food here is amazing, easily 5-stars! We went for breakfast/brunch and they had tons of inventive dishes, some of which I've never heard of before! The coffee was fresh and ample. They had lots of interesting looking beer taps. This service though...was, really off. I haven't encountered service like this since I was 16 and went to Denny's at 2am. We just both got the feeling that we really, really weren't wanted here and...we couldn't figure out why? When we first walked in, they told us it would be able a 20 minute wait. Then we kinda just hung out awkwardly by the door. When we were seated, I ordered a dish but asked if the eggs could be scrambled and was told in a passive-aggressive way that that was impossible. It tried another dish, and asked for the eggs scrambled...they reluctantly agreed. I got a pork loin breakfast sandwich, and it was absolutely incredible. Then, after we got our food we...never saw the staff again. The place was dead and we were desperately trying to make eye contact to get the check, we only had 2 days in Ketchikan and...nothing. Finally, I went up to the espresso counter. The server came up and looked at me and was like "huh?". And I said I would like to pay. He apologized and I paid. I had local green salad: Fresh ingredients and thoughtfully designed dish. The pairing of Gorgonzola, candied pecans, and crisp pears was absolutely delightful. The chicken was cooked perfectly too ( not dry at all). The greens in a salad are often just average, not these. These are hydroponic, local greens. Some of the most fresh and juicy lettuce i have ever had. 10/10. Dessert was Affrogato- 10/10 excellent quality ice cream/ fresh ground espresso Give it a try. read more
