Small local place that had nice portions and good service. The server was pleasant and friendly. My first trip to experience an Alaskan family owned restaurant.

New york cafe is such a gem. The food is delicious and portion sizes are generous. The wait staff are friendly and professional. More over, i absolutely loved the vibe of the cafe. All patrons were enjoying their food and chatting away. The cafe's history is incredible- started in 1911 by a japanese family, this establishment truly has withstood the test of time. Highly recommend for a visit if you are in ketchikan!

Very chill vibes, lovely efficient staff and great food. While still touristy, this is far enough away from the main drag that you've weeded out some cruisers. Halibut fish and chips was fried to perfection - light and crisp. Fries were great too. Hummus plate was lovely and garlicky. Great selection of Alaskan beers plus ice tea and lemonade were lovely.

Good food and service. It was a lively environment with live music on a Thursday evening.

Before coming to Ketchikan we saw the great reviews for New York Cafe. We were not disappointed and were very happy we went. Excellent service even though every table was full. Worth the wait. Standing at the bar we had the local ale, Tiger's Blood. Absolutely amazing! After getting a table we had two of the garlic scallops, salmon chowder and fish and chips. Best meal in town. Over looking the harbor on a rainy day this made our trip!

The perfect fish n' chips meal

Ok, I said this before in my other reviews commenting on my most favorite comfort meals... Fish and Chips... The New York Cafe is genuinely the most superior fried cod that I have tasted in my long history of fish n' chips tasting. The flakey cod is superior and fresh. The batter is nothing that I have tasted before. Prepared perfectly ... the paragon of all fish n' chips batter. I am not using exaggerated words or hyperbole. I had the perfect accompaniment to the excellent fish n' chips...a pineapple-apple draft cider. The cafe has Greek Diner/New York roots, but with Alaskan ambiance. Excellent and friendly servers. If I find myself in Ketchikan again, I will order up another fish n' chips plate. Oh, and the chips/fries were top notch.

It's well known for their specialty Duck Fart shots, but it's really the owners that make it so special. We were greeted warmly by Carlos. He made this visit so much fun. Honestly, I would have loved to stay longer to sample some of the local beers. They have many craft beers on tap. I just couldn't pass up the Booty Juice cocktail. It's strong & unique. I think he said it was a local huckleberry vodka, but I could be wrong. The best part was the Duck Fart shot. Don't go by the recipe because he actually makes it a little different. I won't spoil it for you. Not all Duck Farts are created equal. Haha! My husband won a t-shirt with the pub logo. Yes, our group played a trivia game. The owner admittedly has no filter. That's really what made the whole experience such a blast. Unfortunately, it was our first stop so we had to move on. I'd definitely revisit this one again in the future.

Once inside, you place your order at the counter and are seated afterward. One thing to note: if you're a smaller party and the restaurant is busy, you may be seated with other guests. It felt a little unusual at first, but it wasn't a big deal. My husband ordered the Dungeness crab, and I went with the Alaska Sampler, which features three different types of fish served fish-and-chips style. The fries are their signature mesquite-seasoned fries, and honestly, they worked perfectly with the seafood. As someone currently working on a YouTube video about our Alaska cruise experience, I can honestly say this was some of the best fish and chips I had during our trip. My husband also loved his crab and said the meat was incredibly fresh, tender, and flavorful. They don't sell alcohol at the ordering counter, but once you're seated, there's a small bar in the back where you can purchase drinks. We tried the Double Shovel Appalanche Cider and absolutely loved it. Overall, aside from the communal seating, we really enjoyed our experience. I especially appreciated their unique take on fish and chips. Being originally from Cape Cod, I take my seafood pretty seriously, and this place definitely delivered!

We tried the fish sampler with halibut, salmon, and cod, and it was amazing. My favorites were the halibut and cod--fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I'm not usually crazy about salmon, but my wife really enjoyed it, especially her blackened salmon with rice, teriyaki sauce, coleslaw, and malt vinegar. The hickory smoked seasoned fries were also very good. Even though Alaskan Fish House is extremely busy, the service was very friendly and the system moved well. There was about a 40-minute wait to order, but once inside, we found a table right away with no waiting. Great food, great service, and definitely worth the stop in Alaska!
