But a great plumber is only good if you can get a response from them. I've been dealing with him for several years now. Consistently I've had to message repeatedly, call repeatedly. On occasion - as the first time I contacted him probably in 2023 - he answers the phone himself, and provides info on what he thinks the problem is. And he does phenomenal work. After a few years of being a good customer, patient, paying on time, never objecting to pricing, I **STILL** cannot get a response from him. One issue is that he's a one man show. It's him, or no one. His wife is lovely and accompanies him at times. Very knowledgeable herself. About 4 weeks ago I initiated contact and he responded immediately via text. Great, I thought. Then nothing. After a few more messages checking in, he said there was a family medical situation. I gave him space, and here we are two weeks and yet another text message to him later, and nothing. Nada. And still a leaking well tank. C'mon. Do better. We are done, hope you sort yourself out with other customers - I've seen several other people have had the same experience.

Laco - This is the racist owner

    Laco

My parents are elderly and increasingly I am becoming entwined within the rote daily elements of…read moretheir lives. Healthcare, finances and keeping the home in good functioning condition. I needed a plumber. "Thumbtack", "Angies List": Why not look at Yelp? So I type, "Yelp/Charlottesville/Plumber". Result = "Best Plumbers in Charlottesville"! Laco is the first entry on that Yelp list. Which made me suspicious. Five Star Rating after thirteen reviews? That's too good to be true. But I plow into the reviews. They don't seem like they were posted by Laco employees pretending to be plumbing consumers with above averages experiences. They read as deft and genuine from an array of people. I added the contact info. of Laco and two other plumbers into my phone and resolve to make some calls. Laco was the first and only plumber to return my call (although I continue to receive messages from local plumbers via Tumbtack two weeks later). Tony, who if I've gleamed this correctly is an owner of the business and one of two guys you will talk to over the phone, the guy who will come out to the site and look things over for the benefit of you both and then give you an idea of how much this project will cost and how much of your life will be inconvenienced therein. He's a bit of a character, stout looking, a little harried as any good contractor would be having many irons in the fire and many things and people to keep track of. Polite and clear and let me emphasize that, articulate in what you need and what will happen. I did not once with Tony or any of his men get the impression that they wanted to do any more work than absolutely necessary. They acted as if they wanted to get in and out ASAP, do the job right and move on, pretty much the perfect scenario if you are in need of a plumber and money/finances are of some concern. Allow me to throw this one aside in real quick before I forget. The job came in under estimate and they did everything that Tony had said they'd end up doing if they didn't run into any other issues that needs addressing. The scene: My parents 50-60 year old brick rancher near downtown. Two 80+yrolds and their middle aged kid. One Middle aged plumber (Bobby) and the "Kid" who was the other man working the job and Tony. The three plumbers show up, Tony gives the guys a quick run-down of the issues and what he expects to be done, salutes us all and rides off to address some other issue somewhere else. For three to four hours these two men wind their way in and out of the house, through each entry, from the basement worksite to the attic to secure a drain vent and keeping it from sliding down through the home and killing someone below (heavy large copper pipes...). They brought a radio to listen to Christmas music, quietly while working. Upstairs the old folks milled about watching television, having lunch. It was a pleasant late morning that stretched until just afternoon. There was the pulling of toilets (2) there were reciprocating saws sawing, there was grunting and ladders and the smell of adhesives. In the end, they walked me through their work, cleaned up after themselves and left. Later in the afternoon, I got and invoice via e-mail then called and paid over the phone. Everything went swimmingly and didn't cost as much as I expected, didn't take as long as I thought and it didn't stress my family out. Really man, that ****ing awesome. Five stars.

I had not heard of this company but was impressed by their website, particularly the pricing section, and their responsiveness. Gill, the primary plumber, was thorough, respectful, and transparent. For each of the 3 jobs, he assessed the problem, came up with a solution, and provided me with a proposal and quote for the job. This also included costs of any potential additional work that might be required. He took pictures of the issues for the biggest job in the crawl space and carefully explained the options. There were no surprises. As work went into Christmas week, he had several others join him to get the work done who were equally informative. The resultant work is impeccable and I can relax. Gill examined all visible plumbing to insure there were no other problems. He also provided estimates for several future repairs, one requested by me and one he anticipated would be necessary in the future. I live in a 100+ year old house and these kinds of issues are a little scary because surprises abound! I will definitely use Sunwave for any plumbing needs in the future and would recommend them highly.

The guys that came for the repair were friendly, knowledgeable, and got right down to work. They found an additional problem which was easily rectified at the same visit. By 2:30 PM, we still hadn't heard anything, so I called the office and was told the plumber would be here. 4:00 PM came and went with no arrival, so I called again. I was told the plumber must be tied up and that she would check the status. At that point, I told her not to bother. We completely understand that unexpected issues can delay a plumber -- that's not the problem. The issue is the lack of basic courtesy. A simple phone call to reschedule would have been appreciated. Instead, I sat at home for four hours waiting on a no‑show. It was frustrating, inconvenient, and highly unprofessional. Based on this experience, I would not recommend calling them.

Some folks may not care but when you are planning on charging a service charge, it's unacceptable. We got a "sorry they are behind" excuse but the right thing to do is the plumber should have called and advised us they would be late. I work in a hospital OR, needing to take time off my busy schedule to wait on these guys. It's a massive inconvenience because your customers also have lives and jobs they have to work around to get your plumber to come. Cancelled the visit.
