We had our best EVER dog grooming experience e with Alberto's Pet Shop grooming services last week. First, the phone scheduling was a breeze and the scheduling staffer was very sweet and helpful. After that, the groomer had to deal with our long-haired Australian Shepherd, Jenna, who had many gnarly mats, hadn't been bathed in 10 mos. and has aggressive behavior issues with large dogs. The only thing that we'd maybe want different would be for her to wait her turn in a larger and more comfy crate. That being said, I know she was treated super well. They don't accept debit or credit, cash only or Zelle. The prices are very fair for grooming, paid $65 plus tax for a full groom, which is cheaper than prices around the city (UES). This last time I went I wasn't able to stay (post COVID) and the owner then claimed that I beat my dog. Claimed my puppy of 8 months was attacking and biting the workers but when i got there my puppy was crying (which is rare of her). I've been to different groomers in the area and I prefer Alberto's over the rest. No groomer is perfect but he does a good job, him and his staff are very nice to my dog and I can tell because my dog gets really happy when he sees them. Yes, it's first come, first served so your dog may be there for hours waiting its turn but that's the only down side. So I originally planned on getting my pups grooming done at popcorn paws... AS I SHOULD HAVE. But I had an emergency Friday and could not take her so on Saturday I called albertos in the morning and they let me bring her in. I walk in with my long haired shih tzu.. I never let her hair get so long- wanted it trimmed done nicely. Keep her tail long so that she looks girly. Because she's a salt and pepper color people automatically think she's a boy. And trim the hair on the face - she tears a lot. Anyway... They said 65 for the grooming and 5 bucks more for teeth brushing and anal glands. I said ok fine. I hear good things about this place.... Pretty pricey I usually pay 50-55 for a good cut. But okay. I come back .... And my dogs face is just horrid. And they shaved down her hair so much that there are several spots where if they had gone any further It would've been bald spots. THE YOUNG GIRL there does not know how to groom. I should NOT have I pay 70 (and screw a tip) to go home and cut off the hairs off her paws that are much longer than the rest. To make it even. I wasn't going to curse out teenagers, because the boss man wasn't there when I went to get her. But I am walking in tomorrow to complain. Maybe they should hire experienced groomers. So I was told about this place this morning and my new dog needed an urgent grooming. I had already booked an appt elsewhere but for later this week and i REALLY didn't want to wait so this referral came just in time! Soo I called in the morning time and was told I could bring my dog in BEFORE 2pm and that i didnt need an appt.. I made sure i double checked and the guy said yes dont worry come in we will take care of you! So i get there around 1:30p and filled out the form and was told it would be 2-3 Hrs..The girl seemed a lil standoffish, i was a lil turned off by that but i didnt give it much thought.. maybe she was just overwhelmed or not having such an easy day.-- after my initial shock of having to wait 2-3 hrs -- i went for lunch and a nice walk around the area. Well 2-3 hours turned into picking him up at SIX PM!! 4.5 hours later!!!! By this point i was tired and I was a lil annoyed that it took this long especially when there was more than 1 groomer and really not alot of dogs there. Well My dog looked sooo freaking cute and the price was affordable.. I was very pleased with the grooming and how well of a job they did ( i have a yorkie) - the girl who initially seemed off was real nice and even smiling.. She told me i can use her next time since my dog only let her groom him.. and i should make an appt.. The place is small and they DO NOT accept credit/debit cards.. CASH ONLY! So please keep that in mind.. I would recommend this place if you want a good affordable groomer for your pet and you live close by ...just make sure to have an appt and hopefully you wont wait as long as i did! read more

Not very happy with this grooming shop. Took my puppy in for grooming and specifically gave instructions on how I wanted my puppy's cut to be and only requested for her nails to be trimmed and her glands to be expressed. She was the first puppy in the shop I was there by 9:15am so I don't know why I had to call two hours and a half later so that they can inform me that I can pick her up in another 15 minutes. When I got there I was informed they took the liberty of brushing her teeth, and cleaning her ears. I guess they did this so that they can charge me more. They also cut her hair from her face very short, although I specifically told the gentlemen I didn't want her facial her to be cut short at all. I wish that would have been the worst part but it wasn't, my poor puppy was also cut. Yes, that's right I said they cut her and didn't even apologize for it. In her right elbow was a pretty bad gash. How unprofessional of you to cut my dog while doing a simple grooming procedure and then look at me and tell me she came in like that. Shame on you!!! I must say that I didn't see Mr. Alberto there it was a female groomer but I still expect a certain level of professionalism regardless who's there. Cutting my puppy and not even saying it was an accident or expressing your apologies about it is horrible. If you have no clue on how to groom take a grooming course!! Really! Initially she told the cashier to charge me $55.00 and then five minutes later she said $65.00, REALLY?? The price wasn't what bothered me the most although my puppy is 8 pounds and you are charging me extra for amenities I didn't request, what bothers me the most is that you cut my dog and you didn't even apologize. To make matters worst she attempted to sell me another dog she has. What kind of business services are you providing?? If I was interested in buying a dog I would have gone to an animal shelter! I gave them a very badly matted wheaten terrier. That was my fault. I was skeptical because when I went to them they didn't know what a wheaten was (bad). They took note of what a properly groomed wheaten looks like and I hoped for the best. I was desperate so I knew that I might have gotten a completely shaved doggie. When I came to pick up my dog he had a perfect wheaten cut. These guys are impressive. I echo another reviewer, in that I gave Alberto a matted pup....it happens. My dog had an ear infection and he'd been rubbing the affected side on the carpet after I put in his antibiotic...long story short his ear was matted. I made an appt a few days prior to try out this groomers. I read the reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. It's driveable from where I live. It's in Washington Heights off Dyckman. The receptionist was brief and to the point when I booked. Parking is tight over there. I arrived 5 min early. The place is super tiny. I had to be buzzed in the front door. Don't get scared with how the place looks...it's bareboned. I showed them my dog's rabies certificate copy. The receptionist felt for mats. I already told her I expected he's need most of his ear hair cut off. Alberto was in the back. You can watch his as he cuts though from the booth. He seemed to be very gentle with the pups. Most of the ones waiting for him were little pups, not big dogs. She said my guy would be ready in 2 hours and he was. When I picked him up I almost couldn't recognize him. He was sooooooo handsome!!! They had him crated when I got there. They charged $60 and I tipped $10 b/c I was almost 2 hours to pick him up (I had to run some errands) and they didn't complain. I was going to take Bear to Groom Your Friend but I couldn't set up an appointment today and I didn't really have scheduling alternatives. I called Alberto's and they accepted my dog within the same day (it was a busy Saturday as well). They took a look at my dog and determined that the cost would be $65. Back in DC/MD area, they would charge $75 dollars so this is a bargain! I am sold. They also finished earlier. too. They told me they were going to be done around 5pm and to my surprise, I received a call at 12:30pm. They left Bear's coat to a minimum and he is ready for the winter. Thank you Anaida and Alberto. Oh yeah, after the first grooming, if you take your dog regularly (let's say after a month or so), they would charge $35 dollars to clean ears, cut the nails, cut the hair around the butt area, face and belly. read more

Went there last saturday 8-17-2013 around 9AM. I brought my 2 malteses in. The young lady in the front desk (Alberto's daughter) was extremely rude, had a very bad attitude and as a result I will NEVER EVER GO BACK THERE. They have no idea how to groom malteses all they do is shave them down. They charged me $75 each for these bad haircuts. If you want to be treated with respect you definitely will not get it her. Overall bad service and bad customer service. Luckily on my walk back home I found another grooming place in the area called Popcorn Pawz I walked in there to inquire about their services. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The place has everything new unlike Alberto's and its clean. I will definitely be taking my dogs there from now on. read more

I took my two poms there as a recommendation by one of their doggie friends. It is definitely a tight space, but there were not many pooches there. They use the BEST smelling shampoo or conditioner. The smell LASTS for about 2-3 weeks after grooming. My poms both got a lion cut and they looked super cute. One thing that I like is that the groomer used a grinder on their nails which I pay extra for at petsmart. I didn't even ask her to do it! She was awesome. They work in a very timely manner which is thumbs up in my book. I have used trial and error over the past year to find the best groomer. Most groomers take ALL DAY LONG (literally) to finish the job. My pooches smell yummy :). I would say that the place could look a little more tidy. My first impression wasn't the best based on appearance. The reason I gave four stars instead of five is because they do not accept debit/credit cards. I was a bit annoyed by that being that I do not walk around with that much cash. I had to walk around that unfamiliar neighborhood to find something and I found a small bodega that I was a bit uncomfortable going inside. Needlesstosay I did it anyway. This shop needs a card machine. I hate carrying lots of cash. I have two doggies and the price was over a hundred dollars. read more
