I got a Cavalier King Charles from Zoo-Rama in April and had a good experience. The manager, Jay is lovely and very helpful. The store gives you everything you need to take home a new puppy which is extremely helpful to a first time pet-owner (food, toys, weepads, bowls, treats). My cavalier, Lucy is healthy and happy. Her temperament is excellent, she's social, kind with everyone she meets, other dogs and children. In general, when you take your dog for their first check-up they may have common things like an ear infection or gastro issue. Highly recommend purchasing pet insurance 2-weeks before you take home your furbaby, as they have waiting periods of about 2 - weeks and so anything the vet catches in that time they won't cover or cover sometimes in the future. Another thing that helped me was purchasing an older puppy (4 and half months) because then they have all their wellness vaccines usually - reduces costs and makes it a little easier if considering doggy daycare. read more

I had a terrible experience with this place. The New York State law to stop pet stores from selling animals from unvetted breeders came too late for us. We bought a sweet female Shih Poo, Carly from Zoorama. Sadly, just five months after bringing Carly home, the vet diagnosed her with a serious progressive kidney disease. She died only six years later, which was heartbreaking and unexpected. It's so upsetting that Zoorama cared more about making money than about the health of their animals. They charged high prices but didn't make sure their breeders were responsible. Because of this, we ended up with a very sick puppy, and our family suffered. I'm very disappointed in Zoorama's dishonest practices which only ceased after the law went into effect. read more

I have not been to this Pet Store. I have called several times. Very hard to hear because it is crazy loud with all the Dogs barking! Supposedly this place works with no Puppy Mills (one never knows), and a nice gent said if they dont have the breed I want at the moment, he can get it. Makes me somewhat suspicious but trust me, I have filled out 12 Applications and waited over a year for a Shelter Pup. I dont have a backyard, and that took out almost half. I was recommended this place by a friend for a groomer. I took my dog for his 1 pm appointment and was told that he would be ready by 2:30 pm and that they would call me. I went home and waited for the call. By 3:15, I hadn't received a call so I called them and was told that our dog did not allow them to groom him, and would I please come in to hold him while they groomed him. I got there about 20 minutes after the call and Link was groomed and had a lot of razor burns, which tells me that they groomed him in less than 15 minutes! The groomer told me that his assistant was tired because she fought with Link to hold him as he razored him. I got Link, paid the $65.00, gave the assistant a $10.00 tip, and ran out of there. Upon returning home, I noticed he smelled awful and knew he wasn't bathed. The groomer was very unprofessional, rough, uncaring, and nasty. I will NEVER take my dog there again. BTW? Well very impressed by the professionalism displayed in the Zoorama pet shop for puppies. I purchased my 3month old chihuahua ohh boy what a blessing as soon as he got to my place out of the crate it was as if he knows he's got a great home and running around the place. Believe it or not in less than 2 days paper trained, minimal growling and barking and lots of snuggles and puppy kisses. Yeah a lot of poop, as soon as he gets his rabies shot outside run to the park. Doing very well with his leash training. Expensive to buy but well worth it! Purchased a Teddy bear pup in October. The owners have been nothing but supportive. The pup developed a upper respiratory infection and we immediately contacted the store who set us up with an appointment at the vet. Since it was a weekend, they offered to care for the pup until the appointment came up. They are very attentive and care for their animals. The first impression you get when waking into a pet store is that pet odor. You don't get that odor at all. While the place is small, it's well kept. This pet store deserves 10 stars. The staff is very polite, professional, and caring. The animals are very well taken care of. They have a big variety of different animals. We drove all the way from Flushing, Queens to see what they had to offer our family, and we were not dissappointed! We brought our furever puppy Benji home on October 13th, 2020. We fell in love with him instantly. Staff allows you to hold the pet and interact with the pet in different ways. They are also very cautious during Covid-19, they provided hand sanitizer & extra masks if needed. The process was like a dream, it was everything you could ask for when you go to a store to purchase a pet. Paperwork/registration was all taken care of on spot! We are very grateful that we chose this store, we have been to many. Zoorama staff provided so many freebies along with our puppy when we were taking him home. A staff member even walked us to our car and made sure that we were ok, I really loved that! We thank Zoorama for being so generous and kind. Want to rescue a dog? Consider a pet shop. I'm not a huge review writer, and I would never write a bad one without giving the establishment an opportunity to correct an issue. Unfortunately, trying to take care of my complaints with them directly proved impossible. The store wouldn't answer the phone or return my calls. My vet (Heart of Chelsea Animal Hosptial--highly recommended) also tried several times to get information from them. I even contacted the breeder twice who also ignored my calls. Here's the story: I found a puppy listed on Ebay for $950. She was to come fully vaccinated, dewormed, and with health insurance. I called the number listed and the woman on the other end told me she was at Zoo-Rama. So, I trudged out to the Bronx from Manhattan to meet her. The people in the store were very nice, and seemed like animal lovers. My experience otherwise was pretty terrible: The salesman told me, since I was interested in a breed that was largely unrecognized in that area (vs. a bulldog or lab, for example), that she hadn't had any interest thus far. She was in a crate in the top, left corner of the store, looking groggy. He reached in and got her, and when she was let down on the floor, she went bizerk--it seemed like she had never been out of the cage in her life. She was so sweet and dying for affection, I had to take her home. They said she was $1050, and when I said she had been listed for $950 on Ebay, they had no idea what I was talking about. They claimed she was already discounted by $250. So, I conceeded and we agreed on $1000. They gave me her papers and off I went. She needed a bath, but they said since it was chilly outside that they didn't think they should give her one. Since I left the store that day, I have spend thousands at the vet--the "insurance" was non-existent. I realized a few days later that she had a terrible case of worms (imagine white, inch-long bugs writhing around in her extremely soft stool). It worried me because she was lethargic and had a telltale pot belly. So, I had her looked at. Turned out she not only had worms, but also had a parasite. The most disturbing thing though, was that her papers said she had received her vaccinations in May, 2012. She was born in August. I don't know what happened to my pup during the first 12 weeks of her life, but I view this as a rescue case. Except instead of paying a $250 donation to an organization trying to help unfortunate dogs, I helped an alleged puppy mill (I read up on the breeder) and a dirty pet shop make a profit. read more

2 years ago i purchased a 4 month old husky from here zero issues perfect health always, i specifically came back here for that same reason and thought all was good when i found a 2nd husky to purchase slightly younger 2.5 months old , they were kind as usual and gave me a lot of stuff to take home with him . The issue i have is he has had explosive diarrhea since the day we got him and its been almost a full week of constantly cleaning up water and mud pies every hour or so. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow but im sure this is some type of parasite or virus. Im upset paying $1500 and the dogs sick with something. They did give me wormer which could be part of the reason hes been pooping so much but he also acts like hes never eaten before and for a pup so young can be extremely aggressive . I dont know that its fair at this point to blame zoorama as the woman told me he arrived to her only 2-3 days prior to me coming in and purchasing him but i was not told of this explosive diarrhea issue . He has all his papers and shots minus rabies because hes too young. Hes a very happy puppy otherwise , i just hope this is something temporary and not some permanent digestive disorder or something worse . My dogs have the same father but the mother to this one is different . These are not puppy mill dogs and the owner has staff that constantly clean the cages and make sure the dogs have clean water and food. Some of the reviews on here are unjust. These are good owners, the reason they dont want people handling the dogs unless theyre serious buyers is to avoid the dogs getting sick. All animals are neutered/spayed. They do take the dogs out for exercise . You will get a leash collar vitamins wormer food and health certificates with your purchase . They even gave him a blanket because it was cold. These people do care which is why i truly believe they didnt know he was sick or had some parasite. All sales are final on these animals for the most part . I rarely give reviews however,I believe it's time when I read such bad reviews for zoorama,I purchase my white Pomeranian at Christmas 2016.She,s been a complete joy and healthy.I have had a lot of dogs over my life 56 always puppies and raised them.I have never had one this healthy never had diarrhea once I have been amazed how healthy she is and loving and playfull.Great place to get a dog I was recommended to go there when I went a nieghbor on my block was there . Horrible store! Unprofessionalism and horrible at communicating. When I called to schedule a grooming appointment for my dog, I was told to just walk-in because they are always available. On the day I want to do the grooming, I was told that the groomer has 'reached his daily capacity' and this is at 2pm and the store closes at 8Pm. When I informed him of our conversation the previous week, he was unapologetic and told me to come in the next day WITHOUT scheduling an appointment! Staff is courteous and helpful but they promote leasing loans through wagslending.com. Wagslending is really a company called Monterey Financial. This company approve loans for pets but in reality it is a leasing agreement that will leave you paying twice the original amount of the pet being purchased. Also the puppy I leased was infected with parasites and had to spend additional money in paying vet costs and medications. Be wary of the leasing/loan scam and sick pets. This pet store should be ashamed for promoting a loan through a company that scams and exploits their customers. Dont lease any pets/animals, please pay cash, it is a trap and a scam!!! read more

Am just giving it 1 star so I can leave my review. If anything I give it 0 stars. Just like every other pet store all they care is about the money (of course it's a business) and not the puppies at all. They claim to get their puppies from "professional breeders" yet they sell very sick puppies with lies that it's healthy. The amount of sick puppies I have seen that suffered dying is insane. What happens when they have a sick puppy? They self diagnosed it and self medicate their puppies. They wait a MONTH to actually take it to their local veterinarian but because it is near death but not to diagnose it instead give it to supportive care to whatever they guess the puppy could have. They are only willing to pay the bare minimum and for a short period of treatment and once they see some improvement rush to sell the puppy. Why do they rush? because they know it wasn't fully treated and could get sick again very soon. You would think the puppy is healthy but after days you notice your puppy declining and go back to them and all they say is no the puppy was health maybe new environment total bullshit! The amount of puppies that I have seen die because they wanted to do nothing to save them is insane. They are all completely about the $ and would lie to you about their health leaving owners heartbroken because they have a huge medical bill in order to save their puppy or end up putting it to sleep because it's too late. Shame on you zoorama and I Hope soon we end with all these pet stores and end the suffering of these puppies! read more

Lately I've driven by the pet shop and seen a German shepherd and/or shepherds if not the same one. Even at a distance, through the window I can tell the living conditions are poor. Anyhow, so I decided to look them them up and yes come here to Yelp and see if my feeling were correct. Sadly to admit I was right the things that I read today breaks my heart knowing is much in my power I can do to safe those babies. I'll try my best but I know it won't help those babies right away like they need. Only if people took animal abuse just as serious as child abuse. I have been looking for a dog for quite sometime now and I have finally found the perfect place to purchase one ! When I entered the store it was a bit noisy and it took me about 6 minutes to get the employees service since he was speaking to other customers. The employee seemed like he was new in the job , he kept asking the other employee about which breed is which. Regardless of the lack of knowledge this particular employee had , the puppies were perfectly fine. They all seemed happy and waiting for someone to take them home. I still haven't purchased my dog from the store, but I am visiting every once in a while. Zoo Rama is indeed expensive , and the owner understands that not everyone can afford a puppy , he puts sales and specials from $100 to $200 off on a pup. Dogs such as Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are as low as $699. Back to the financial , there is a PERFECT plan , which is layaway! Sounds silly for a pet shop , but Zoo Rama gives you 7 weeks to gather all your money for the specific pup. After 7 weeks you have two choices either take your money back or make the deposit for another dog , or you can always speak to the owner about extra time. What can stop you from buying from Zoo Rama now ? Puppy mill ? After doing research I come upon a website that tells me exactly which stores run on puppy mills in New York City and no where is Zoo Rama mentioned.Lastly , I highly recommend Zoo Rama and I can't wait to get my pup from there this summer , I will be sure to keep you guys updated. This place is really bad. I paid a visit with my family to look at the puppies, mind you it was about 30 degrees today, we walked in and it was freezing inside the shop! These dogs and cats were freezing. We commented and complained about there being no heat and they simply said "they turned it off." And making up stories like oh were going to get heaters and blankets for them. If you're cold wearing a jacket and full winter accessories in your own store, what makes you think these poor babies are feeling with only their fur WHILE laying on wires all day long, I cannot imagine how cold the others were that were in the window. Ridiculous- they even try to telling you one price at one time and Change it at another, I wish I can get all of these babies out if here and into better care! read more

I purchased a 3 month old puppy from this pet shop. I took her for a check up 3 days later and found out that she had an ear infection and a bacteria infection. The vet told me that where ever I bought her, she was not took care of tight. She was in a dirt environment. Had stopped by to see the adorable puppies inside. I for one don't tend to support pet shops as most animals tend to come from puppy mills. The place seemed okay although the cages for the dogs were rather small. One thing that threw me off was that they were painting below the window displays that dogs were inside of. The smell was over powering to me so I can imagine how it bothered the animals that were in an enclosed space. Also the cages have metal cage bottoms. Most of the dogs are puppies and small breeds so their paws can get stuck. None had any beds and were lying on either a thin wee wee pad or on the direct metal bars. I understand it's a business but I believe small inexpensive alternatives can be offered to these animals to make spending their time inside a small cage better. Offering them beds to lay on that could be washed weekly and allowing them some sort of socialization time outside the cage will make them less anxious when people approach the cages. read more

I just want to say that these people are nothing but scam artists. I went in about a month ago looking for a dog and spent over an hour playing with the puppies and asking questions about each pup I played with. Finally, we bought what we were led to believe was a female Havanese. two trips to the vet and hundreds of dollars later I took her in for her first grooming and all four employees at the groomers told me she was a Maltese! you can imagine my shock. I knew that both breeds were very similar in appearance and characteristics especially as puppies but I was reassured that there were certain things about my dog that clearly, to them anyway, showed she was Maltese. I cannot take her back because we love her so much but I want to warn anyone looking to buy a pet from this place to make 100% sure they research the breed they want and take them the vet right away.
