I see so many 1-star reviews on this page, so my 5-star review is definitely an outlier! Well, I…read moretruly had a very positive experience with Duquesne Light. For over 100 years, Duquesne Light has provided electricity to customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties. For several years, I have purchased electricity from them, and I experienced no major problems. My first major experience with Duquesne Light occurred last week, when the electricity in much of my house went out. I called the company's customer service department, and a representative answered the phone in about one minute. The representative said that she saw nothing wrong with my service, but she put in a ticket for a technician to visit my house to investigate the problem. In less than one hour, a technician arrived, and he said that a wire in the ground was likely damaged. He requested that two other technicians arrive to repair the wire. In less than one hour, those other two technicians arrived. They dug a 3-foot-deep hole in my yard to expose a damaged wire, and they repaired the wire. I did not have to pay them any money. All four of these employees at Duquesne Light provided extremely timely and courteous customer service. I felt very surprised and impressed by their responsiveness. I now have electricity, and I feel very happy with this company.

As usual the power is out. Wind? Power goes out. Rain? Power goes out. Sun? Power goes out. Nothing…read moreever appears to be done to improve service. The only thing they seem to do is break fix and appear to be grossly understaffed for that. I remember service being this bad over 30 years ago so that's progress I guess. They have a monopoly and they know it so why do anything? Any complaints fall on deaf ears or are deflected by blaming someone else or nature.

Not even a knock on the door or a call to let us know that they were shutting the water off TODAY! I called WV Water and was transferred to 3 different people. The last person said "Unfortunately they already started and they can't stop! This is unacceptable. We hade Drs. appointments today and tomorrow. Not a word from WV Water as to whether it will be off tomorrow too. I have looked at reviews for WV Water and they are terrible. Unfortunately they are a monopoly and don't seem to care. It would be nice if they schooled their employees about the proper way to interact with customers!

May 2021: I had a plumber from a different company permanently disconnect my lawn…read moresprinkler/irrigation system, and West View Water Authority (WVWA) had to inspect and approve the work. One of my plumbers had removed the pipes, and then WVWA emailed me three documents about irrigation disconnection and a Residential Meter Setting specification sheet. I shared the documents with my plumbing company, and they sent a second plumber to my house to ensure that their previous work followed the specifications. WVWA then scheduled a serviceman to inspect my plumbing. (Tip: If you decide to permanently disconnect your irrigation system, I recommend that you first receive these three documents from WVWA to make the process easier, but my plumbers still thought that the documents were written a little confusingly.) The WVWA employee was courteous in her language, saying things like, "Have a super day and be safe!" WVWA did NOT give me an approximate arrival time, but the serviceman showed up in the morning. He also was very courteous, addressing me by my name and wishing me a good day. He spent a few minutes inspecting my pipes and meters, and my husband and I showed him photos of what our pipes used to look like. He asked me to sign a document that I would not reconnect the irrigation system without a backflow prevention device, and then he handed me a letter to confirm that my irrigation system was properly disconnected. Update: In November 2021, WVWA called my husband to notify him that the fire hydrant outside our house would be flushed and that the water might be brown. WVWA did not flush the fire hydrant until one week later, but at least it got done, and the water was not brown at all.
