I've never written a negative review of a company before. But Alcosta Doors' lack of professionalism and concerted efforts to charge me large sums of money to fix a simple problem were absolutely shocking.
I contacted the company to fix my garage door, which had ceased to operate with the opener.
The technicians arrived and said they couldn't figure out what exactly was causing the problem - then recommended that I replace the door - which would require replacing all 3 garage doors at a cost of several thousand dollars. I pointed out that while the doors are not new, they are not damaged, and we simply needed them operational.
They then recommended that I replace all the hardware on the door that was not operating. They charged me for the service call, saying I would get that money off the cost of the fix - and that they would call me the next day with an estimate and be back in a couple days to do the work. The technician suggested it would be a few hundred dollars.
I didn't receive a call over the next week. I placed several calls to Ralph, the service manager, and when he did call back, he said that the estimated cost would be $1100, but that he didn't know when they would receive the parts and be able to fix the door. I explained what I'd been assured of by the technicians and he was belligerent and dismissive.
I contacted Contra Costa Garage Doors for a second opinion. They had me take several pictures of the door to diagnose where the problem might lie. They said that the hardware appeared in good condition and that there was probably a simple fix. When the technician came out, he quickly suggested that we replace the cables on the door to see if that would fix the problem - at a cost of only $40. In addition, he did a tune up of the hardware, realigning the tracks, putting in a small support block, lubricating the track, etc.
By the time he left, the door was operating smoother and better than it had in the past 12 years - at the cost of a service call + $40.
I called Ralph back at Alcosta to let him know of the resolution and to ask him to refund the service call money, considering the circumstances. He refused, and became argumentative and rude during our conversation.
I believe that this company is more interested in replacing big ticket items than in earnestly trying to repair existing systems at a reasonable cost. BEWARE! read more
