My garage door had a damaged cable that needed to be replaced. + They were very responsive - It was very confusing when I called: I initially called Danville Garage Doors thinking I was calling someone local. I was told someone would call me back. The call back said they were from Palms. Palms who? Palms Garage Doors. They could come in an hour. Nice. I asked how much. The person said the technician would review that with me. I needed to have one cable replaced. It had been damaged when another contractor got an extension cord caught in it. The technician right away wanted to sell me new roll drums for the cable. I asked if they looked damaged and he said they might be worn out, 10 years old. Looked like new. Declined. Then he wanted to sell me new rollers. Same. Declined. Then I asked how much the service call, labor and parts would be. The technician said he didn't know yet; until he could see just what it needed. (it only needed a cable replaced). Then he proceeded to install two cables that were larger than the original. As a professional mechanical engineer I understand cables, roll drums, and all that. Bad idea to put on the wrong cable because it will damage the drum and likely cause other problems. He told me that this model would accept the larger cables. OK. Once they were installed they did look too large. He assured me that this was OK. Then he could not get the opener to program properly. He talked to the office and then told me my opener needed a new opener module. It had been working fine before. I told him it was because the wrong cable was installed. It was only then that he told me it would be $250.00, additional if I used a credit card. Gave him a check. He said he was return to deal with the programming problem. I asked him why he insisted on the large cables. It turned out that he did not have the smaller (correct) ones. He left. I looked up the parts from the part numbers that were stamped on the drum. Very common parts and available at Home Depot! The manufacturer specified the use of the small cables, not the larger ones he had installed. I called him and had him return and put back in my original cable. I tor up the check and thanked him for a wasted 3 hours. Not going to do that again. I felt like the technician would have been a very nice, honest guy if he was allow to be. Not my job though. read more

This is my second experience using Palms Garage Doors. On both occasions a technician was out to my home in less than 20 minutes. The first time was to diagnose the problem and to estimate the repair. It turned out the outdoor keypad wasn't in sync with the system's board, so the tech recoded it and all worked again, however due to age it could fail again which would be a $1,400 replacement. There was no charge for this first visit. Yesterday, unexpectedly the spring broke and the door wouldn't rise. Within 15 minutes the tech was there, immediately started working on the fix and 25 minutes later I was out the door . After two occasions contacting Palms, they have the highest degree of what service means every time. Both technicians were polite, clean, competent, and friendly. I was told the company will follow up a year from March 25th to make sure al is well with the garage door operation. Fantastic company!! read more

We had a little car vs garage door challenge, which left our garage door pretty much totaled. I called a few places (it was a Sunday), and Palms Garage Doors was the first to say they would have someone come out to take a look. The technician who came was prompt, clean, kind, and personable. He told me about a couple of options and prepared an estimate on the spot. I got a couple of estimates from other garage door companies as well. All the estimates were very close to each other. That said, some techs from other companies seemed a little shady. They seemed to sort of size me up before preparing an estimate. That may have been my imagination, or maybe not. We ordered the door the following day. The office called after sending us some brochures. When we made the order, the office reduced the price by $300, which was a nice surprise. When the door arrived 3 days later, it was exactly what we ordered, and the installer had the old door and hardware removed, and installed the new door, opener, tracks, and safety device complete in about 4 hours. I had to work that day and was a little worried about leaving my wife to make sure everything looked right. When I got home, I found my concern was needless worry. The door, tracks, and opener were installed perfectly. The new door is so quiet, my dog doesn't even wake up when we return from dinner or a date. It really is very quiet.
