We were traveling and the weather got stormy so we pulled off in a little town called Hinton, West Virginia, which is absolutely lovely. We were hungry so we asked someone where we could eat and they told us a place called the market downtown It was a very busy place so we figured the food had to be good We were so disappointed, I had the chicken Parmesan and my friend had hotdogs and fries. My friend said the hotdogs were pretty good and the french fries would've been if they had been warm. The chicken Parmesan was a big bowl with little tiny pieces of spaghetti in it and very little marinara sauce and a big hard solid piece of chicken laying on top of it. I was not able to chew the chicken and the noodles were just bland without enough marinara sauce on it to tell that it was there I ordered boneless wings with barbecue sauce as an appetizer. What I got was about six chicken nuggets that were deep-fried hard and they weren't even warm. We also ordered fried pickles as an appetizer and I think they were OK. On the upside, the place was packed And the people that work there were awesome. Everyone of them were very friendly. It was a little warm in the building and it felt like the heat was on in the bathroom. It was 97 outside so I'm not sure if they were having a cooling issue or what. The place did have some good qualities but I judged my review on the presentation and the taste of the food and it not being warm. My friend got his appetizer within a bit 15 minutes, but then it took another 15 to get mine so he was finished with his by the time I got mine. Absolutely beautiful little town read more

Everytime we come to visit family we visit The Market once or twice! The only downside to this place is it's so delicious sometimes seating for big parties can be hard. And also because they are so popular sometimes they can run out of their daily specials. But this place is amazing!! The pizza is always so great, and feeds an army! Their BLT and Rueben are our favorite sandwiches. And their French fries are delicious. The final star of the show is the dessert case!! 10/10 read more

Market Famous Burger was a huge portion for $13, add-ons were well priced. Service was fantastic, no one was rude and they answered any questions and requests we had quickly and swiftly. Great stop for thin crust pizza, we had the mushroom and sausage pizza, 16" plus drinks under $20 and took half of it home with us for later. Service was professional and quick in a nicely appointed dining area suitable for rustic America. Good variety of choices and a daily special ensure patrons can find something for individual choices. I was also amazed how the buns didn't get all soggy after a while like many other burger places I've been too. And the fries! They were thick and crispy even after they cooled down. You know how some fries taste good and crispy when they're hot off the fryer but get soggy and lifeless when they cool down? Not these. Based on a recommendation of a couple we met while out hiking, we stopped on this afternoon to grab a late lunch. So glad we did! The whole town is really cute and this little restaurant fits right in. It has an old town feel but the food is anything but your granny's cooking. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, burgers and pizzas. I wanted something on the lighter side so I ordered the Locomotive Panini. My hubby ordered the reuben. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. My sandwich was everything I wanted! The chicken was cooked well, the panini bread was perfection. Really flavorful sandwich. I thought I had already reviewed the Market, since we have been coming since August 2018! Honestly, reading about the Market was one of the reasons we even looked to visit Hinton, much less buy a home here (which we did). It is a cornerstone of the Hinton Historic District, and really important to the social life of the town. It is open seven days a week with nice long hours, only closing early (6PM) on Sundays. They have woodfired pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and a couple of dinner entrees. In addition they have gelato, fresh baked desserts, and a beer and wine selection. We have had most of the above at one time or another. The fish entrees have been especially good. Portions are large and prices are inexpensive. The salads are all good. I think my favorite so far is the Market salad with grilled chicken. The Appalachian pizza, with it's combo of walnuts, apples, and ham, is a standout, well worth trying. I had some cappuccino gelato yesterday (they also had blood orange!) and it was delicious. Currently the only place to get beer and wine in the Historic District of Hinton, they have some craft brews, and a decent little wine selection, I usually get the Merlot. The staff are super nice, even when it gets busy. I am so happy to have The Market a few blocks away from our new home! read more

Nice little gem in the cute town of Hinton. A family member brought us here for lunch and we were not disappointed. Lots of sandwich and salad choices. Food was fresh and delicious. We tried the Rueben, Italian, chicken pesto panini, salmon salad. My kids had a grilled cheese and chicken Caesar salad. The kids meal comes with a free gelato. A really nice addition to Hinton and the railroad-centric revival of the town. As the case with many local businesses, the theme of this restaurant is trains and the sandwiches are named for railroad-related topics. While elsewhere this could seem a bit much, it really works here in good part because beyond a generic railroading theme, the owners have worked to incorporate a lot of actual Hinton history here, such as a station clock from an old train station and part of the scoreboard from a high school football stadium. They also have an exhibit of the folk art artist S.L. Jones' drawings in a small side dining-room which is very worth checking out. The food is really good, too. I had a BLT sandwich which was packed with bacon, lettuce, and tomato and all the ingredients tasted very fresh. The bacon was unique, clearly a smoked bacon and very flavorful. Also on offer that day was a Tabasco-brined catfish which I wanted to try but wasn't that hungry, so it's clear their specials are worth considering.The desserts in the dessert case also look very good though I didn't have any. The staff is very friendly and pretty efficient as well. Also worth a visit is the long wall of shelves across from the counter where you order as they have various local foods such as preserves for sale here plus some unique and area-related gift items. read more

I go out of my way for this place. I love the pizza but got a Rueben today... the sandwich was terrific but I'd say I've now tasted the best onion rings in the planet. Places love me this are why you should try to stay away from big chains when you can. The food is terrific and the service here is off the charts.
