First time visiting ALDI. Great prices on produce, cheese and other goodies. I have been missing out by not visiting sooner. It's small but most of everyday items are here.

    Good prices on produce

Long line, one cashier. Inexpensive but decent. Better than going to stripes, but certainly not an HEB

I usually go to HEB or Kroger and always end up spending well above $100.

I actually think I enjoy Houston's Chinatown better than the ones in California like SF or LA. Linda's Tropical Fruits is not only a little store where you can get produce and groceries/snacks, but also in the back, they have the drinks and acai bowls! I ended up getting the Super Fruit Slushy, which came with red and white dragon fruit, soursop, Thai banana, and sugar cane juice. It was so delicious and really refreshing! If I got the chance to come back, I would definitely want to try another one of their smoothies and try their acai bowls since those looked so amazing and aesthetic! Definitely a hidden gem :)

Not to mention cutting it up and taking the pits out. Too much work. I rather pay for the ready to eat stuff! My go to drink is the seasonal longan pandan drink. Sadly it's not offered year round. However their other drinks are just as tasty. Some can agree the prices are a bit higher than your average Asian market prices for fruits and goods, but these are special imported/seasonal items. Come and grab yourself a sweet treat or a refreshing drink!

There are fruits are very fresh and you can smell them immediately feeling the air Once you walk through the front door. A lot of their fresh fruits on the shelves are not refrigerated. But despite that, they're still very fresh which does speak to the level of commitments that the store has in ensuring a fresh supply. They also offer a variety of pressed juices like sugar cane and pennyworth that I was able to try. The sugar cane was very refreshing and not overly sweet. The amount of ice was also fairly appropriate and not overly done. They will try to fulfill your order as quickly as they can, but if they forget, just give them a gentle reminder.

I see a lot of spice boxes in this location that I have not seen anywhere else. There is a rice shortage in the market? No problem, they have a separate ROOM with just rice in it! I literally got almost everything off the menu and there is more to be desired in taste and flavor. Plenty of parking. The owners are very nice!

Afterwards, he asked if I want my roast and polao separately- then I asked back if the roast comes with polao by itself. He said yes- then I said that I don't need the extra half tray polao and it would be good with just chicken roast. He clearly agreed with me. A few mins later, after checking out I realized that I was charged 26 dollars for roast and another 35 dollars for the polao. I asked the guy why he changed like that. he said he thought that I would like it this way. Then I asked him what is the price for roast with polao- he said it would be close to 10. Then why the hell I was charged 66 dollars for food of 40 dollars? Also, he clearly neglected my request not to add the half tray polao to the list. Another disclaimer: I overheard the owner was scolding the guy in the kitchen saying why you smiled and how they will do business like this. , after I changed the order. Note that I was a regular customer there for last 4/5 months, even then they will behave like this.

I had this beef stew that you would otherwise only find at someone's grandma's house that was killer. Got some turnip cake on the side but everything looked good. When I stopped by on a weekday evening at 9pm it was packed. They had stations setup throughout the store to order different goods, which helped to alleviate the rush. Knafeh ($6) - They offered 2 types of knafeh, one with cheese and one with custard. I went with the one made with Nabulsi cheese and topped with shredded phyllo, and soaked in sugar syrup. It was warm, crispy and delicious! Karak tea ($5) - This milk tea drink was made with aromatic spices, primarily cardamom, cloves, ginger and cloves. I was happy to see they used whole milk instead of evaporated milk. The drink was incredibly rich and creamy and tasted great. Turkish delight ($18 / lb.) - This was extremely fresh, soft and chewy, made with cornstarch, sugar, nuts. Some of the varieties I tried had chocolate and/or fruits. The baklava here was fresh made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and held together with some honey. The nut offerings here included, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and a few more. Overall I was impressed with everything they offered here with the exception of the nuts, which I thought were just ok. I'd definitely return if I was in the area.

The only qualm I have is that the chocolates are not labeled, so when you mix them all together, it truly is a bit of a Russian roulette on what you'll get. Everything was super yummy.
