I'm not sure when my love for ALDI began but I know for sure that my three friends James, Lupe and Brian know about my semi unhealthy addiction with ALDI. I was hesitant to write this in a review, but I have to tell you a totally embarrassing real life all the experience that has a nice ending. I don't know about you, but I never return items whether it's an Amazon dress that doesn't fit right or a grocery store impulse buy, I never return things. But during my regular video call with my Bestie Melissa this morning I was anxious to eat my specialty Aldi CARA sweet and juicy orange during our call. But as soon as I opened the orange, I noticed it was super dry and almost underripe, but past due at the same time. I thought: wait a minute what is this? This is gross. I tried to finish the orange, but it was just so dry and nasty. I thought there's no way I'm gonna be able to eat this bag of oranges that I just bought, as opposed to the amazing fresh cherries that I also bought. So here it is: I grabbed my reusable tote bag, put in all of the oranges that were already on my kitchen's fruit tray and wondered what would happen if I return them. I didn't have the mesh bag with the tag, but I have the receipt so let's give it a whirl. I'm in the car and thinking I can't believe I'm returning oranges but let's check it out. I deposit my quarter and get my cart, and upon entering the store, I noticed that there's no one in line and there's no cashier at the check stands. But what's this I see? . I see a lady head toward the checkout lane and I beat her to it. Did I cut in front of her or was she looking at other products? In the back of my mind I was anxious about having cut her off so now, I'm feeling rushed. Damn. I tell the cashier that I've never returned anything but I'm going to return these oranges. I showed him the receipt. He asked for the tag and I told him I already threw it away. He starts to do the return and I tell him should I get my replacement and he says don't worry it's going to be the "twice as nice". I'm not sure what that means, maybe some ALDI guarantee which apparently it is a thing. As he is pushing the buttons on his register, suddenly the cash register seizes up and repeatedly beeps at any user input. He calls for back up, they arrive, but are unable to clear the beeping and computer cashier machine installed. I glanced down the line and it is now full of at least seven people all looking at me. Gahhh!!! I am mortified and I want to pee my pants. I had already apologized to the lady. I cut in line and she said sweetly don't worry it happens. But that's what someone who's annoyed would say. I take a deep breath. I put my hand on my neck and I look over at the checker and he is doing the same. We are both squinting our eyes watching his backup lady try to clear the machine. Omg. This is not happening. It is silent. No music, no talking. I feel all the eyes on me. I am embarrassed that I am trying to return oranges and look at what it's doing. It ends up that yes Aldi has a store policy where if you're unsatisfied with a Aldi brand product you can return it for your money back and a full replacement. So I got my fresh cherries and hopefully did not interrupt everybody's afternoon. But Aldi, damn I love you even harder. read more

Bought a two-pack of ribeyes today for just under $20. As soon as I opened one of them, the rancid smell nearly knocked me out. S. Mason Road, Katy location. I've gotten a few things here before and had no issues. It's not my regular shopping spot, so I'm not too terribly bummed, but doubt I will return. read more

Ok Yelpers, aaa sort of lost of words for this place. Notice the parking lot is not full on Sunday after church. We'll here's a few of my speculations. 1) They claim they have low prices. But you have to pay for a shopping cart. What tha.....? 2) The selection is not the best and no name brands. 3) Nothing is really organized. It seems like the products are just thrown on the shelves. 4) Lack of staff at check out. I guess I could continue but, its just not worth it. I've shopped here twice. One with a pick up that I had a hidden fee. Still not sure what that was. The second was just to see what the inside looked like.. HEB here I come. Sorry I fill like a trader now to them. read more

Okay y'all, I often shop at (Aldi) in between my H‑E‑B grocery shopping. I like that it's a smaller grocery and you can get in and out quickly; and they have quality food choices. But what made me want to write a review is that I recently tried their cauliflower vegetarian gluten-free pizza. It's fresh not frozen. I don't recall seeing this before so it's a newer item to Aldi. Well let me tell you, it is so good. We put it on the grill, charred the edges; added some fresh goat cheese to melt on top with drizzle olive oil. So Delicious!! It's a simple meal to find; but nice for evening when you don't wanna go out and good for quick sorta healthy dinner to eat with a glass of vino. Give it a try folks. Also, some of the comments on the carts. I just bring my own study shopping bags so I don't have an issue with it. Already pack my items and ready to go at check out. Another cool tip is people don't realize the store is owed by Trader Joe's so some items are very similar; possibly rebranded but at a cheaper price point. read more

I can only imagine how awful it is to check out groceries all day, but that is no excuse to yell at customers or treat us ugly when all we want to do is get groceries and leave. Will not be back. So this past weekend I spoke to one of my offline yelp friends and she confirmed that my reviews have been diminishing in quality. So for those who have stuck around me, thank you and sorry for the one liners and lack luster reviews. I know most of you have been hearing all this hype about Aldi and wanting to figure what it's all about. I usually write my reviews oldest to newest but with something this new I had to get the info out asap. So my first impression as you walk up is the carts require a quarter to get one. If anyone remembers Auchan back in the day, they used to do the same method. I remember very clearly because as a child this was my part time job! haha, I'd track down all the carts in the parking lot and make some extra cash. Right now they are handing out the quarters for customers to use. Ok after you enter you are headed down an alleyway. Smart on their part, kinda felt like cattle being lead to be slaughter from the customer point of view. But you're forced to look at mainly their product line of chips, snacks, etc. So before you can get in you're bombared with their brands. And it worked. The cost savings are there! When you get past this section the store is designed very sleek. Simple rows no fancy staggered rows or anything. They have everything you'd expect in a supermarket but at very low prices. They don't have fancy shelving, very basic and most of the items stay in their boxes, reminded me of Sams. But some items were just silly cheap. A huge box of strawberries for 49 cents, avocados for 29 cents, just crazy! I ended up just purchasing some drinks at a few bucks off per case, at check out is when the interesting info starts to happen. Right now they are giving a coupon for $5 off every $25 you spend, since I barely went over $25, it was a huge % off. But when I went to pay they do not take any credit cards, only cash or debit cards. Also no bags just like sams again. I later found out you can purchase paper bags at ~6 cents? ~10 cents? for plastic? or $2 for cloth bags. Lucky for me it's still in their grand opening period and giving away the cloth bags for free. But this is very similiar to sam's so, if you want those similiar cost savings without having to purchase in HUGE bulk this is your place. One last thing that I found strange, was they only really have 1s and 20s. So if you break a bill you might get a huge stack of ones back, beware of your significant other thinks you have a habit of going to the strip club. read more

I'm a typical male: I am cheap (wife and daughter spend my money) and I hate shopping. Good quality at a good price and don't want to waste my time doing it...go in, buy what I need and leave. Aldi has met these needs. Aldi is what results when you combine a mini mart and a discount grocery store. Aldi has their own labels, but I have found it difficult to come across the typical bad tasting food that you would find with traditional generics. Aldi also offers occasional name-brands. This is the best place to find cheap milk and eggs...milk is under $2 and eggs are less than a dollar. The $3 Winking Owl Cabernet wine is highly recommended..it is tied to the Gallo family and is a solid wine to have with dinner. I am a Starbucks addict and the "Specially Selected" coffees are not bad. Aldi's breakfast bars, yogurt, cereal and chips are also good. Aldi has a health-consious label (Fit & Active) with good selection. I enjoy trying new types of Aldi food. There are nights where we have some ground turkey at home in the fridge and decide to do "taco night". Aldi has the taco seasoning, shells, tortillas, and refried beans all grouped together at the end of the first isle. In addition, you can grab some tortilla chips on the way down the isle. This is the ultimate in efficiency. I don't mind bringing my own bags or renting a shopping cart, but would like to use my credit card (instead of debit). Could do without Aldi's produce, bread or meat sections (although, you can occasionally find some gems such as cheap mangoes or low-fat ham). For the most part, Aldi focuses on prepackaged, not on "fresh". Overall, Aldi is a great neighborhood store where you can grab cheap groceries on the run. read more

Today I decided to see what Aldi was all about. I had never been and figured it was time. The first thing I noticed was that there arent many name brand items. The prices were low, but compared to what? If your on a budget this is the place.... the product selection was random also, kind of had the feeling it was stocked from excess or surplus sales... the 4 star rating is due to these reasons.... the products sold are really inexpensive, the store is clean, the employees are cheerful. I would say Aldi's is a discount grocery store and they are good at it... will I go back, I'm not sure? Call it whatever you want but I'm at a point in my life where I'd rather pay a bit more for the flavors I'm used to but like i said if your trying to stretch your grocery bill this is your place read more

Consistently lower prices for many pantry items. I have to mention my fave purchase here was a shelving unit for our garage. It came in the box so I did not expect much but it actually is durable, good quality and a breeze to build so I went and got another and my husband was able to organize all the kids outdoor toys and games and his tools, yard equipment and they stay put/in place which is awesome. Aldi is a great discount grocer but also offer much more and it varies from week to week so be sure to view their weekly ads because once an item sells out it's gone! read more

I love dogs, however a grocery store is not the appropriate place to bring your dog. The last two visits to this store included shoppers with dogs that were not service animals but poorly trained pooches tugging their owners across the aisle or escaping from collar/leash. Cashier refused to do anything about these unsanitary situations. Manager nowhere to be found. I'll keep my quarter and go somewhere else. read more

I like to go shopping at Aldi. The prices are good. The customer services are the worst. Today I got two case of smart water. Once I get to the cashier. The cashier can't scan so she said she can't sell she throw on the side. She not even try to fine out or get help. So I said why you have it on the sell floor. She told me I have to come back. This is my favorite grocery store!!! It is the easiest shopping experience, the store is small enough so I know where everything is, and the cashiers are VERY fast and friendly. I live for their Wednesday ad with all their new specials that are featured. My favorite purchase was a "Go-Pro" for $39.99!!!! Bargain. Also, the new remodel looks AMAZING!!! read more

My wife has been waiting for Houston to get Aldi's here and she was giddy when they finally came here. We stopped off at this one pretty much knowing what we would be getting into be hearing all about them from others in other states that have them. The selection they have is nowhere what you will get at HEB or other stores, mainly all their own house brands but if that does not bother you you will be in for a treat. Their prices are so much better than other stores here in Houston and even though you most likely have never heard or tried their house brands that are fantastic. In many cases they are better than name brand products of the same item.You have to, if you want to use a cart pay a quarter for it but you do get it back when you return the cart. You also pay I think like 6 cents per bag and have to bag your own items but their bags are pretty sturdy and as long as you bring them back next time you go there you'll never have to buy them again until they give out. The only drawback for me is the fact that this place is SMALL!!!!!!! If you are not a fan of crowds and feeling like you can't move this place is not for you. Sure it might be 'cause they just opened but it is just a warning for those that like a nice relaxing shopping experience. Oh, BTW they only take cash or debit cards. If you plan on using a credit card you'll need a plan B. read more

Everything is a few cents cheaper that its big box grocery chains, but you get what you pay for. I bought both grapes and grapefruit but one once home I ended up throwing them out with the trash. Green grapes were bland and a bit mushy despite their appearance and the grapefuit were actually bitter (supposed to be ruby reds). The other products I bought were house (no label) brands and were ok, a few cents cheaper but not enough to justify the Aldi experience. The aisles are normal, the choices very limited. You (like a Sam's or Costco) box of bag your own groceries after checkout - no big deal, but a lot of confused people in the store. My one and last visit here! read more

Am a freak for kettle style chips, for $1.79 these are as good as the ones I purchased in Maui. No warning label did I spy to not eat these chips while jogging. Mary Jane was our cashier and paid attention to what we asked for as it was our first visit, not close to the casa but curious as to the yelping. Cracked open a bottle of Winking Owl Pinot Grigio, for $2.49 it was not my fav but worth trying. The 39 cent avocado is the same I buy at HEB-- I can buy 3 here for the price of 1 at HEB, more guacamole for all. The 100 calorie walnuts or almond snacks are half price of what I pay for the Emerald brand, if your pantry only welcomes name brands, Aldi not for you. Bagging it yourself, 25 cents for your buggy that repels itself from slamming into your car, I dig. This is similar to a corner store in Europe, without the fresh bread. Would not purchase meat here, and the fruit was slim pickings, but the store was clean and stocked with water toys for kids read more

I love the Aldi model. Cut the fat where it won't hurt the customer. The carts are self return with a quarter lock refunded on cart return. If you don't have a quarter, one of the staff will gladly lend you one. Staff are friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs. I never had produce in any way inferior to the big chains such as HEB, Kroger, Randalls etc. Their chocolate is incredible European quality. The cheese is half the price of their competitors. read more

I didn't really spend too much time in here. It has all the basics and a little extra. I was intrigued by the purchase(deposit a quarter) for a grocery basket, which I didn't have... purchase your own bags! Prices were very reasonable, yet they have a lot of non-brand foods. Reminds me of a dollar store with a better selection. I didn't do any major grocery shopping so I am curious to see if and when I do need a lot of groceries will Aldi take care of all my needs. I guess I will have to come back to see. I am wondering if I will save that much more than Walmart to justify a change. There are not many stores around town, but I did see quite a few products that WallyWorld doesn't carry, not a lot but there are some items. Prices were good, so I would be back with my family to see how it stacks up to our needs and wants for groceries. read more

I dont think they should advertise themselves as such, but thats my opinon. they dont have a lot of what you would need and would more than likely need to go to another store. it should sell itself more like a bigger convenient store, with no name brand items. After hearing all the hype. my husband and I ventured out to check it out. We were thinking "grocery store" style but were surprised to see it was the size of a CVS or Walgreen's. Very friendly greeter at the door, which will probably disappear once the grand opening is over (we hope not!) Prices are crazy cheap, especially on the staples - milk, eggs, bread. It is the majority of no name products, with a few name brands in the store - Gatorade, Arizona Tea and Sunny D. We loved all the German products - lemon loaf cake, sunflower seed bread and spices. Sure, you have to buy the bags (free during grand opening) but if you plan ahead you can bring your own! Only negative was the store was crowded and the aisles aren't exactly roomy. Add staff stocking items and there was a few folks bumping into one another. read more

This is a very small grocery store that sells mainly private-label, store brand products. They do not accept credit cards, coupons, and do not bag your groceries. In fact, they make you pay for bags. To use a cart, you must insert a quarter into a slot as a deposit. Like Walmart, their meat is pre-packed before it gets to the store. There are a few of their store brands I like but I wouldn't go out of my way to shop at here. read more

I used ALDI before while in Germany and I like their goods and the concept, very happy they opened a store in Katy, is good to have some alternatives to Whole Foods and Trader's Joe. It is an european concept so be prepared to bag your own things. My favorite section are the chocolates! read more

I like Aldi. You can find some cheap deals here. Today I saw salsa for 59 cents...you really can't beat that. You have to bag your own groceries and bring your own bag. Also it is a quarter for a cart but you get it back when you leave. I say if you are close I would definitely try out this grocery store! read more

I was there on 3/11/16 around 1300. Michelle was the cashier who had checked out the things that I had purchased. She asked the few customers before me and me, "How will you be paying today?" I did not respond because she should not be asking that question! I have been there many times before and have never been asked that! It is not because Aldi now accepts credit card payments also, because I was there the day before and they had signs posted that credit card payments were being accepted. The cashier who had checked out the things that I had purchased had not asked me or the other customers how we would be paying. I got the impression that Michelle was trying to embarrass customers who were paying by credit card. She is not the only employee at this Aldi who have behaved like they own Aldi. They do not and they have jobs because of customers! A Walmart neighborhood market recently opened in the area, so customers now have options! Too bad for these rude Aldi employees!
