We bought some lamb. Let me tell you know, it was horrendous. We opened it up thinking it was just normal lamb, but then my father cooked it. He took one bite and thought it tasted very odd, so he asked us to see if it was ok. I smelt it and wow. I was shocked it smelled horrible. I probably wouldn't buy meat from here again after that. Good place to pick up a few staple things Chicken breast is $1.99 lb for the larger family size pack but $3.99 when in a smaller pack . Significant savings there alone , get there early. Most of the people posting negative reviews of this store obviously didn't know what they were getting when they walked in. Aldi is cheaper than even Market Basket. This is because you rent a cart, there are fewer (and they are generic) brands of items, you pack your own items in your own bags and they use fewer people to staff the store. If you want a full service grocery with brand name products, go elsewhere. The items they do have are high quality even if generic for most items. So generally you spend less for better quality items. Its generally not full of "frat boy snack" junk like one poster said. I get my daughters Blue Corn Organic Tortilla Chips at Aldi, for less than $2 a bag. You just need to know what you are getting when you go there. read more

I do my weekly shopping here and am almost always able to keep it under $50, thanks to their awesome prices. Aldi is just like any other grocery store, except for the fact that they only carry one size/brand of each product, don't carry any super specialty products, and have a more limited selection. However, if you just want to do a quick trip and get the basics, Aldi is definitely the place to do it. I have only had to venture to another grocery store for a product Aldi doesn't carry one or two times. They carry all the basics- snacks, cereal, dairy, meat, condiments, canned items, frozen foods, etc. I've been pleased with almost everything I've purchased here (except some instant oatmeal, which they took back with no question and gave me a refund plus a replacement!). Recently, they've started carrying a wider variety of specialty products- feta cheese, almond milk, flavored creamers, different cuts of meat, etc. The prices are able to stay so low because of some quirky details- you have to insert 25cents to release a shopping cart (you must return it to get your 25cents back), they don't provide bags (bring your own or pay a couple of cents to buy some), they only accept cash/debit/EBT (no credit or checks), and you have to bag your own groceries. Not a big deal considering the money you will save! read more

I'm surprised by how many people haven't heard of or been to an ALDI. It's owned by the same people as Trader Joe's, the Albrecht family (ALbrecht DIscount). It doesn't have everything, but what it has is cheap. I love that it's small, vs. the football field sized super duper grocery stores that make you want to just curl up and die rather than go back for the bread you forgot. Got a great pineapple on my last visit for $2. Fancy salad greens even cheaper than Costco. Very hit or miss, though. Highlights: granola/cereal/cookies, European chocolate, and canned/jarred things, cheap cheap cheap. Using a quarter to borrow a carriage, and the insane throw-everything-back-in-the-cart checkout method. Whatever, consider it quaint. read more

I have always loved Aldi and have been shopping here for years. Aldi is a little different than your average food store, but as long as you know the "rules", you won't have any trouble. 1. You rent the carts for a quarter. You get the quarter back when you return the cart. This is to allow the store to not pay a person to go around collecting carts, saving money for themselves and you. It also helps the life of the cart because they aren't sitting in the elements for hours. 2. Bring your own bags. Again, this is savings for both them and you. If they don't have to buy obscene amounts of plastic bags, and you bring your own, that saves everyone money. 3. Brand name. They do have some brand name things, like goldfish. But for the most part, it is "off brand" stuff. With that being said, people who are knocking it have never tried it. Their restaurant tortilla chips are great, their salsa tastes exactly like Tostitos, my husband loves their brand of saltine crackers best, and if you haven't already, you must try their "knock off" Girl Scout cookies. They are better than the ones the Girl Scouts sell and are significantly cheaper. Beans, stuffing, salad dressing, ketchup, etc. are all great quality. Sure, there have been new things I've tried that I don't like, but that's life. That's not a store's fault. 4. Aldi has a very decent, and continually expanding organic selection. They also have high quality meats, cheeses, fresh pastas, salads, guacamole, dips, etc. the big difference is they one have one if it. This is helpful because you don't have to waste time trying to decide which of 4 different French onion dips is the one for you today. You just pick up the one they have. 5. Check out. The cashiers are seated and it allows them to move quickly. They put everything into the cart for you to bag. They have a massive shelf in the front of the store. This is great because we all get frustrated with a person bagging our groceries that isn't doing it "our way", or a person who is overfilling/under filling your bags. This system allows you to bag in a way that is conducive to you, your life, your system, and your abilities. 6. Payment. They only accept cash or debit card, no credit cards. As tough as this may be for some people, again, this is to save money. Credit card companies to charge crazy fees that the company you are shopping at has to pay. That is reflected in the prices they charge you for their products. Aldi doesn't deal with those fees, and can save you more money by not starting those fees for themselves, and then ultimately you. I hope this helps anyone thinking about shopping here. It has truly helped my family save money on groceries and not at all feel deprived in what we are eating. Aldi = Ugli Aldi is bare bones. Pay for your cart, no music, warehouse design. Food choices: great if you are a frat boy who craves lots of cheap snacks from unknown companies. I only went because they carry sauerkraut from a German company which I needed. So I also got a bag of onions, grapefruit, and few other things. I shopped with my shopping bag, to avoid the DRAMA of the cart, put my stuff on the conveyer belt. At my turn, I went to put my bag in the cart next to the checker, seeing that she was loading other people's groceries into their bags in this cart as she checked them out. She went so fast that she was SLAMMING my food in the cart before I could get there with the bag. I asked her to wait until I got my bag in there, so it could be loaded up instead, and she said "I can't, I am on a time constraint". She did not care about being polite, accommodating, or careful with my food. The people in the line behind me looked meekly accepting of this rude and disrespectful treatment, so I guess this treatment is par for the course. WOW. The prices are low, which may attract people, but the quality of food is lower, and this lack of customer service would make me shop in hell instead. Aldi is UGLI. Someone told me that the same family owns Trader Joes. If that is true, it must be a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde scenario. (Dr. Jekyll = Traders - where workers in Hawaiian shirts are super helpful and friendly, the products are delicious and inexpensive, and the store atmosphere is like a party. I HATE to blow your hopeful thoughts, due to the gracious amount of good reviews for this store. However, if you are looking to do your weekly grocery shopping here (or even ANY shopping) start making a choice between the four grocery stores in Milford: Shaw's on 140, Big Y on Rt 109, Stop&Shop a stone's throw away from here, or Target, also very close. There have been rumors going around that ALDI is cheaper than Market Basket. I thought, no way. They don't have the best locations, and never seem to be as busy. Right as I walked into this store I figured out why. No brands, weird / annoying policies, and a detestable variety. The only national brand I saw here was a set of Crayola art supplies for Back-To-School. Everything they sell are things I've never heard of, and would never actually purchase. Store is pretty small, and doesn't have a good variety of anything. Nothing is really consistent, and you have to pay to use a shopping cart (good concept but not nearly worth shopping here). When I was in the store, no staff (including at the checkout area) were in sight at all, and no one else was inside. After a minute or so of the strong disinfectant cleaner smell I just had to walk out. Not a terribly bad store, they need BRANDS and learn how to clean without making the store smell like Mr. Clean's house. Target is the cheapest in Milford for groceries. They are less than a mile from here on Fortune Boulevard. 1 star for Aldi. Too bad, I wanted to like them. read more

Prices are cheap but selection seems to be hit or miss. It's not a store I'd do my regular grocery shopping at but it's a good place to stock up on a few staples like eggs, butter, and frozen dinners. The produce section was awful with some fruit clearly rotting. The meat department though is pretty good with quality cuts and reasonable prices. I don't need to interact much with the staff but they have always been friendly the few times I did. A few nuances: Bringing my own shopping bags takes some getting used to though. This place is great. It only takes a few minutes to get through the whole store. They have most of the items on my list and the prices definitely save $$$ over other stores. By the way, you rent your shopping cart for 25 cents but get the quarter back when you return your cart. Their brand Simply Nature is organic and is labeled clearly if it is gluten free or lactose free. They have quite a few products that are gluten free. Bring your own bags, load up your cart, and be amazed that you spent a fraction of what similar items would have cost in a big grocery store. Terrible customer service and the store is half empty. Ontop of that my mother was trying to grab items and the cashier (who was female did not catch her name but we caught her damn attitude for sure) whipped the cart FROM my mother and snapped at her. As a customer who this was our FIRST experience there, having a woman snap at you over the cart YOU PAY FOR and how she whipped all of our items in the cart, lets just say this family will not be coming back. Hint of advice you should tell your cashiers : you work with the PUBLIC. Learn how to TALK to your customers not snap at them especially when its a first time visit. Will definitely stick to shaws and market basket from now on, wasn't worth the stop. read more

First time i came here was the opening day back in 2013 i think, and i left with the impression that they didnt have anything i would need or want. That was a mistake. You have to go back again, if you think they didnt had something, recheck, ask for help, they probably do. You can get dairy produces here, and salmon, ground beef, wings, cashews, ice cream, crab meat, onions, anything and everything CHEAPER, oh lord is this place cheap. The place is also SUPER CLEAN, and you can see through behind all the fridges. You got to have cash or a debit card, they wont take credit. Also you got to carry a shopping bag for your stuff, or pay a quarter to use the shopping cart. Hire a white woman cashier who worked counter back in 2015. She was mid aged , white and dedicated and really worked ..I saw a broom fall and lacerate her eye and had to ask ger if she was okay and she was so conscious of her service to getting customers a good service that she never even winched. I was the only one who seemingly gave a care at the time and don't encourage this employee behavior but am saying this woman , whoever the heck she is, is as tough as nails and if she can put herself closer to first or take a break for her in first aid care will hands down the best cashier or whatever it is she may do in real world, whatever that means. And FYI, we are not talking anarchy, I am talking somewhere between a mascara moment and a dam tough woman. Who was not a crude looking woman either. read more

Just to clarify: You can bring back the "rented" shopping cart and you get back your 25 cents, what you deposited at the beginning. This is a common way in Europe to encourage people to push back their cart instead of leaving all around in the parking lot. Also I like that you have to pay cash, on this way you don't overbuy but stay with your original budget. You are able to buy your weekly food basics for 2 for $50. I buy healthy fresh produces and cook. Every week there are weekly specials with great bargains, which I check out online before I go there. Ones I bought good quality queen size memory foam mattress for a really super low price. These "specials" are not all the time but on that week only, so you need to pickup a next week flyer for planning ahead. Ones you learned how to find your usual food items, which might be difficult first, as the store uses his own brand, it is a breeze to finish the shopping in 10 minutes. I know their stores from different European countries but I love Aldi here better, as the prizes are much lower than any other discount store. read more

I had seen other Aldi locations around, but I never thought to stop. I wish I had stopped sooner! I was in search of ingredients for cabbage lasagna and cat food (it's hard to find a decently priced Fancy Feast- and yeah, I know I sound like a crazy cat lady saying that!) and I hadn't seen any markets for awhile so my friend and I decided to give this place a try. The selection was awesome. All sorts of brands that I had never seen before at really great prices. No cat food though, but don't worry- I bought other items! Very nice selection of organic food. In fact, the whole grocery store seemed to be geared toward their fit and healthy brand. I love grocery stores like that. It wasn't that big, but the rows were packed with bargains and interesting food items. I couldn't name one item that wasn't a better price than I've seen in forever. And, they have a unique check-out system that is obviously saving their customers money! I only bought a few items so I didn't think it was too weird when the cashier didn't offer me a bag or bag anything but then I stopped to read the blurbs on the walls and it turns out they never bag, and this is part of their system to save the consumer money. I wish more places would do that! If you're not disabled or elderly you should be able to bag your own groceries. Plus, I think more places should emphasize re-usable shopping bags. I always ask for paper if I don't have my own bag with me. Anyway, I read on their website that they have a few locations closer to home (not as close as I would like, of course) and I think next time I see one that I'm going to stop and grab some more healthy bargains. My landlady told me about this place and the bargains she got so I thought I would give it a try. The prices are very good. Some of the goods were 30 cents cheaper but others were a couple of dollars. They have a decent produce section. If you are looking for a place to stretch your dollar this is it. a couple of things to beware of. Shopping carts cost 25 cents to rent. Well you have to put a quarter in to use them. Also they don't have bags so you have to bring your own. What I do is bring my reusable bag and don't rent a cart and put my stuff in the bag. read more
