Despite recently opening, they already have a lot of vendors. More vendors are on the way (especially produce) as crops continue to grow throughout the season. There was a really interesting variety of vendors. They were all super cheery, excited, and friendly - nice! The market is easy to find, right off the main road, 47 (aka St. Francis Boulevard). The church parking lot is huge, no problem with parking whatsoever. The frosting on the cake - a food truck arrived later in the market, "Thai 1 On". They cooked up piping hot Thai Food. I'm a sucker for almost anything pickled, hot, and zesty and The Hobby Farmer's offerings didn't disappoint. The hot pickled peppers are outstanding. I also added a little Zesty Garlic and Pepper pickle juice to my Bloody Mary (along with the pickle of course), and it took it up another level. To avoid confusion -- this is the Anoka County Grower's Association market that's been around for well over 30 years, not the new indoor market at the Town Square. Today was the first day so there were only 4 vendors and no fruits or veggies yet. There was a baker, a large greenhouse selling various potted plants, a dog treat person, and the president of the association himself...selling organic creams, salves, insect repellents, deodorants, balms, etc. No produce yet. I bought some classic peanut butter treats for my big doggy. And I purchased some homemade strawberry jam for my kid. I also had some great conversations with the vendors. Just had to give a shout out to all the staff working today. It was so busy with Christmas only a week away. These employees were working their butts off. The younger girl stocking produce was a beast! Those boxes are heavy and this girl was tackling through a pallet like no one's business! The middle aged woman who was shopping for on line costumer was so efficient! I swear she filled 3 carts and took them out by the time I finished my shopping! The 70's looking young man at the checkout kept this line moving along with being kind. I hate grocery shopping! I mean hate it, but when you go to a store where the employees know what they're doing, friendly, and working their butts off you can't help but feel thankful!!! So thank you Aldi for training and treating your employees well! holiday can be stressful, but just a reminder of how much food there is if you just take a moment to look! It's open every Monday afternoon during the growing season. It's also conveniently located in the parking lot adjacent to Main Street in downtown Anoka. There weren't a lot of vendors but I think things will pickup as the season continues and as harvesting progresses. I recognized the bakery & jam lady from the Blaine market. Unlike some Aldi stores, this one has a wide open entry minimizing congestion and allowing you to go to whatever aisle you need instead of being forced down the first aisle. If you are not familiar with Aldi, there are a few quirky things... - if you want a cart, it costs a quarter which you get back upon returning the cart. This is great in that there are not carts randomly sitting around the parking lot. - paper bags cost $.15 each so remember your own bags - they don't have everything like a large grocery store...but they tend to have the essentials. The Aldi store brand is great for canned goods, snacks, and crackers. - they have a constantly changing variety of "aldi finds" which range from a name brand product at a steep discount to seasonal housewares.
