aldi spring has always been a 'breath of fresh air,' when compared with other stores in the immediate area.

Normally love this place though you have to go on the right days of the week otherwise they sell out. But what was disappointing was that they locked the doors before they officially closed. I got there four minutes to close and only needed two items for the week as I was going to do the rest of my shopping at HEB. I had gotten there as fast as I could once my baby was taken care of. Very disappointing that the doors were locked at 7:56. My trip in there would have been less than three minutes. read more

This location is EXTREMELY organized! My husband expressed it was one of the best one we've been to in the Houston area. It felt spacious roaming through each aisle, and all meat and produce selections were fully stocked! Clerks were nice which made our Aldi trip even better! Seriously not impressed. Most of the packaged products are their own brand. Problem is none of their packaged products tell you what the country of origin is or where the the products are made. I WILL NOT EVEN PURCHASE DOG FOOD FOR MY PETS IF I DON'T KNOW THE COUNTRY IT IS MADE IN. As a consumer I feel entitled to know this info. Their brand name products just tell you where it's distributed from in Illinois which means nothing. Milk, eggs and a few other items may be less expensive than Kroger, HEB or Walmart but I've found so many other items way pricier especially at my second visit. Even the limited amount of fruit and veggies are pricier than the above mentioned stores. I went to stock up on tp, paper plates and Kleenex. I went to Kroger's later to find out that I over paid on the Kleenex and paper plates at Aldi. Plus the Kleenex was also a softer quality at Kroger's. read more

Since I'm a discerning shopper and I would rather spend my money in locations OTHER than the grocery store, I feel compelled to update after several other trips to Aldi's. Let me start by saying that I'm not the typical shopper. I like good food, but not crap. I don't buy processed, pre-made concoctions. I love to cook, and I love to cook good, healthy food. And I couldn't care less if I have to sack my own groceries or not, because, frankly, if it means that I can buy a few extra groceries, well then, who's the chump? I learned THAT long ago when I lived in the New York metro area. Yeah, I learned that FAST. So, onto my update -- Each time I've gone to Aldi's, I've tried several of their private label products, singularly, to see if it held up to the national brands. I usually do this at other stores, too, like HEB. So far, I have not been disappointed. Although my selection is not comprehensive, here's what I've tried so far: *Greek yogurt, raspberry: 85 cents and it's just as tasty as Chobani *Sweet potato chips: $1.99 / 7 oz. bag -- sure beats Central Market chips - yum! *Large black olives: 99 cents -- identical to national brand in taste and firmness and not as mushy as HEB store brand black olives *Wavy potato chips: $1.49 / 10.5 oz. bag -- hubby prefers them to Ruffles (less salty) *Mixed nuts - cashews (no peanuts): 32 oz. / $10.99 -- a steal of a deal, as that even beat Costco's price *Cheese Ravioli (frozen): 25 oz. / $2.29: tasty!! *Crushed red pepper: 2.5 oz / 99 cents -- oh my! I love my crushed pepper! *Eggs: 79 cents -- you can't beat that anywhere *Bananas: 29 cents a pound - STILL *Beer -- here's a wild one: hubby was with me today and spotted a German import called "Wernesgruner" priced at $5.99 / 6-pack. Oh how he loves his German beer. He figured he'd give it a shot. Chilled it up and had a bottle with dinner and says it tastes a lot like Warsteiner or kolsch beer (and I know that's good stuff). An unexpected find! I will make a notation on this list, however: I had bought a one-pound bag of frozen flounder filets. They were large pieces and you could clearly see them in the bag; at $3.99 for the pound, that was a great buy in my book. I made several pieces of them and they were very good. However, upon inspection, I realized that they were originally from China. I know others aren't bothered by country of origin on their meat products, but I would rather stick with meats and fish that is harvested in the USA. Aldi shoppers should be aware of this if they are purchasing frozen meat or fish products, as I never even thought to look. Aldi's is in a sense a step back in time: back when stores weren't SUPER stores and back when your only option was to pay CASH for your groceries. I remember those days (and those were pre-ATM days, mind you, and it was a major hassle to write a check). This isn't so different, other than you need to bring your own bags with you -- and how is this any different than Costco or Sam's Club? If you would truly rather the grocer have your money than YOU have your money, keep lining the pockets of other chains. Me? I'll continue to comparison shop, buy what I like here, save my money, and only then move onto the major chain grocery stores. I'm a big fan. It's a more progressive concept but I like it. We are a family of 6 with 4 school age kids and this place helps our budget. We love their brands when it comes to chips, snacks, cereal, etc. I think the produce is good albeit smaller selection than the big grocery stores. I have no problem with their "brands" and have found them to be the same quality of the well marketed brands. They also have a few unique items that we have tried and love. Just change your thinking when visiting as you will need a quarter to unlock your shopping cart (you get it back when you return the cart) and you will need your own bags. So far, I have found the staff to be friendly and pleasant. The smaller store focuses on basic and high volume items so it keeps it's size small. That allows you to park close to the front door, run through quickly, and back out. I find the layout and store size efficient. read more

-25 cents to get a cart? Who you guys think we are? Whats funny is, when I went there were 2 people to explain how to get a cart. Wouldn't it just be smarter to have a sign on how to get it or just plainly not have a requirement of 25 cents to get a cart? At least have those small baskets available! -Once in, I felt like I was in a maze... I couldn't go through to what I was trying to get since there were people blocking the 1 long a** lane that leads to the main part of the grocery market. Might not make sense but if you go, you will understand what I mean. -Don't really know how good the quality of food is but the first month the food is good. But now I'm hearing the quaity is poor. -Noticed all the cashiers get to sit on a nice chair to scan my foods. since there is no bagger the cashier nicely "tosses" my stuff into my cart. To everybody who complains about having to pay 25 cents for a shopping cart... the reason you have to pay is to ensure that you put your cart back! I think it's pretty smart of the company to do that. Maybe other stores should take a lesson and follow suit. There a lot of lazy people out there who just don't care about others property. On to the food.... while I am not accustomed to the brands, I have tried them and found them to be quite pleasant. I will also say that in my experience while shopping for produce I have found that it is much cheaper and the produce doesn't go bad after sitting in my refrigerator for a couple of days like produce from Walmart and HEB. While I haven't tried their beef, I have purchased the chicken and was pleasantly surprised about how nicely it cooked. Very comparable to other grocery stores but at less the cost. I plan on buying some beef the next time I go shopping there which will be in a day or so. Also, the dairy products were very good too and cost much less than what I buy at HEB. read more

Update: This is STILL the best grocery store anywhere. They are rotating out the seasonal items/hardware/household items practically every week, and the items in the clearance rack are even BETTER deals! And they've added actual Blue Bell ice cream! Went on Friday. Not impressed. Its like a much much smaller Sams with little "name brand" items. I bought onions which I didnt see until I was home were all but 2 rotten in the bag. The milk and egg prices are great but I spent $180 on groceries, didnt know it didnt include shopping bags and piled little items into my car bc you dont get bags unless you purchase them. Make sure to have a quarter bc you need one for the cart. You will get it back when you return it but if you dont have a quarter your outta luck for a basket. I wont go back. As I stood at the end of the checkout counter, swapping kids and no-name groceries out of carts with chains swinging from them, juggling a handfull of bags I had to pay for, next to employees who need me to bring them replacement carts, I realized my family and I are better then this. Here's my experience with ALDI : First time there today, and won't be going back. It's not that it's a bad place - it was clean, and the shelves are stocked - it's that I have grown to expect certain things when shopping. Making things difficult for your customers to spend money at your business is not one of them. --Put a quarter in to get a shopping cart? No, thank you. I want to walk up and grab a cart and be on my way. I also don't appreciate half of a handcuff (cartcuff?) hanging off the side of my handle while I shop. Instead of hiring a person to stand around and put quarters in this crazy contraption, pay her to round them up from the lot like your competition. --99% of everything being an off brand? HEB and Kroger have house brands too. At least I can compare them side by side to the real deal. --Paying for bags? Absolutely not. That's the cost of doing business as a store. You opened a grocery store, bags are part of your business model - Give me bags. Don't nickle and dime me anymore then the world is trying to already. --Cash or Debit only? Nope. I'm not going to make a seperate trip to my bank, or scurry around town looking for an ATM hidden in a liquor store just to pull out cash so I can come shop with you. Debit? Thanks a lot for making sure your customers pay any and all transaction fees associated with the purchase. --I'm the bagger too!? To bag the groceries I just had to buy bags for? -"Bring me another cart when you're done unloading everything into your car." That's what the lady sitting down at the register said to me after loading all of our items into a different cart. I have one cart with my two kids and some groceries, and another cart with even more groceries that the ALDI checkout lady filled. Now she's asking me to go get her another cart? I stood there for a second not knowing if she was trying to be funny - she wasn't. Call me crazy, but after doing everything I had to do in my life just to make it to your store to do my shopping is asking enough of me already. I honestly don't even have high expectations when it comes to customer service any longer. I can only hope that this is not what the fine people of America have come to expect. I'll be back over at HEB the next time I need anything. Free carts, free bags, bag boys, cart pushers plus an ounce of respect for my business - I think I can afford a few dollars more for that level of customer care. read more

Most items Aldi sells are their own brands which I was not familiar with. I have tried a few of them and on the average they are okay. Aldi usually has good pricing on their produce which is what we buy most of there. Their Milk $1.99 gallon and eggs $.79 are unbeatable. They sometimes offer good pricing on meats as well. The spices Aldi sells are also way cheaper than you will find in any other store. There are a couple of downsides to shopping here. 1) You have to a quarter to get a cart. If you don't have a quarter, you will not be able to release the carts to shop. You do get it back when you return the cart. 2) They do not have any shopping bags, so you must either bring your own reusable bags or have everything loose. 3) They are cash only so no credit cards. If you're on a tight food budget like my family is, I would seriously recommend trying Aldi. I was hesitant to go at first when I learned you could only pay in cash or debit card but when I compared prices to other stores in the area, I knew I couldn't afford to not go. Needing to pay a quarter to use a shopping cart and needing to put the cart back when you're done threw me off at first but you get the quarter back and it keeps the parking lot clean so I'm not complaining. Also, needing to bag your own groceries and paying for the bags isn't a big deal to me, especially since the bags are reusable. I just toss the bags in my trunk when I'm done unpacking at home and they are ready for me the next time I get to the store. The food we've tried so far, though off brand, is good enough to keep paying the cheap prices for. I haven't had any issues with the produce and love the price of milk, which we drink a lot of. I admit I don't get everything my family eats from Aldi, but since shopping here and by price matching, I have cut my weekly grocery bill by $50. That's a significant amount of savings and my family and I have Aldi to thank for their help. read more

My family has been going to Aldi for about 2 and half years and we have always been amazed by their low prices and quality foods. They have saved our family financially. When you first arrive at this Adli, you will first have to insert a quarter in a cart to eject it. Don't worry you will get it back when you return the cart. This is to keep the parking lot clear of carts. Other Grocers send someone out to pick them up, so this approach saves money. Another thing you will notice The first isle you see will contain Chips, Candy, Clearance Items, cereal items, and condiments. The Chips are typically sold under the Clancy's brand and, they are good for the price, but make sure to purchase salsa or salsa con caso. The Candy is sold under the Chocor brand and in my opinion are actually better than the national brand. The cookies are sold under the Benton's cookie brand and are competitive with the national brand. The cereal items are sold under the Millville brand and are competitive with the national brand. The Condiments are sold under the Burrmans band, and are the same quality as the national brands. At the end of this isle you will see the coffee section. The coffee is sold under the I personally don't drink coffee a lot, I prefer Coke in the morning, but their selection is good. Right next the coffee section is the Beer and Wine Section. I don't drink alcohol so I can't offer an opinion here. I don't even know what the brands are. The second Isle contains their non food special buys that rotate throughout the year, a second clearance section, baking goods, and beverages. The special buy section offers miscellaneous items like trash cans, auto accessories The clearance section is for items that have been discontinued but have not expired yet. At the other Grocers this would be the "Baked too much" cart. The baking ingredients are typically sold under the Chefs Cupboard Brand. I don't usually bake items, but I have no complaints with them here. The Beverages are sold under the GT cola brand and are competitive with the national brand. The Third Isle contains the produce, beans, the other side of the special buys section and the other side of the clearance section. The produce is competitive in price to the other supermarkets in the area. Beans are sold under the Dakota's Pride Brand and taste the same as the national brand Bushes Beans. The Frozen Special Buys are also in this section The fourth isle contains the other side of the produce section, the household goods section, the health section, and the bread Section. Household goods are sold under the Boulder brand and are competitive and comparable to the national brand. The Health items are sold under the Welbey Brand and are the same as the national brands. The bread is sold under the Loven Fresh brand and is comparable to the national brands. The fifth isle contains the dairy and eggs and frozen food section, the soup section, the Italian food section, the Ice cream section. The Dairy is sold under the Friendly Farms, the is the same from the national supermarkets. It probably even comes from the same cow. Frozen Food is sold under many brands from Breakfast Best, Cattleman's Ranch, to Bremer. The quality of these are the same as the national brands. The Italian foods are sold under the Regginos brand and are the same as the national brand. The Ice cream is sold under the Belmont and Sundae Shoppe Brand and there is no difference than the national brand but is no Blue Bell. Eggs are sold under the Happy Hen brand and there is no different than the national brand. The Back of the store contains the meat department. Chicken is sold under the Kirkwood Brand. The chicken is a little on the fatty side. Pizza is sold under the Momma Cozzi's brand and is more doughy than the national brands but still good. Aldi sells healthy items under the brands, Simply Nature, Fit and Active, and LiveGfree. When you check out you will notice that there are 5 Checkout lanes. I have only seen 2 open at max, but they are very fast. The Cashier will scan your items and will put them in another cart (don't worry it will still have a quarter in it). Please note that Aldi doesn't accept Credit cards. After checkout you can bag your items at a counter next to the checkout lane or you can grab one of the boxes that the food shipped in . After you have put your items in your trunk return your cart to the cart storage location by the front to get your quarter back. To conclude this review, I have to say that I highly recommend this aldi location. read more

Aldi stores in Germany are Beautiful stores, so I was excited to going into one here. OMG what a dump! Almost NO GERMAN foods and mostly cheap crap food. I was seriously disappointed because I know what this store could be. And hey where is the fresh bread made daily..... Aldi had a chance to show Americans a store with fresh daily bread and good products..... NOPE Aldi in American is a wharehouse store with most substandard foods that caters to the food stamp crowd. read more

What got my attention was the quality of food and prices. Most of everything I buy from Aldi is ORGANIC! Crazy since there prices are so low, its awesome. The quality of food is so much better than even brand names. Its a little inconvenient with no plastic bags at checkout but they added some you can buy. My only complaint is at checkout when I have a baby in the cart they just automatically start scanning and putting my items in another cart which is not convenient for me as a mother because now I have to move my baby into another cart & diaper bag. Also I don't understand why they are timed? But besides that I love there food, its nothing but necessities so you don't buy a bunch of other crap you think you need and most of its ORGANIC. :) I'm happy with it! read more

I love this place! They have wonderful wine, sparkling wines, and beer at a very good price! Milk is always under two dollars a gallon and they have different household items to buy every week. It's so much fun just going in there and going up and down the aisle and seeing what you can get at such a good price! The customer service is impeccable! They are so kind and considerate! I attended the grand opening of this store and my experience was not good. I won't be back for cheap milk, eggs or mango. Meat and processed food is not anything I am interested in buying there. I don't mind the paying my cart if it was a convenient place for me in the parking lot. I don't mind supporting recycling efforts but the cashier was throwing my wine in the cart when I was trying to bag it as she scanned it...yet, you have to go to another station! It is not a bad stop shop for the quick things you may need if you like cheap things...My favorite place is JV Smart Shop that is a chain of HEB and I do my large monthly shopping there...good quality, good prices! read more

First the $.25 deposit for the shopping cart threw me off but made sense if you think of it.... People actually returned their carts to the designated area after their trip. So this place is no frills or gimmicky which took some getting used to. I bought some random things just to try the quality of merchandise. I wanted to make sure I didnt't just buy stale or yucky tasting food just because it was cheap. I have to say that everything I bought on my trip was excellent if not better than the store brands that we're used to buying. Definately going back and taking advantage of the savings. Some of the prices are cheaper but so is the quality. I bought a bag of 6 apples 3 were bad, a box of strawberries and about half were slimmy or rotted. Very crowded but that could be that they are still new. The cashier kept ringing up the wrong thing or scanning items twice. read more

This store used to be better, the checkers sling your food into the basket with no regard to your fruits,vegetables and other delicate items, the produce is not rotated, you will find items that are starting to rot, you really have to watch the expiration dates-many items are way past the date, the wheels are coming apart on the shopping baskets,getting harder to find one that will actually roll,, and lastly speaking to the manager is a waste of time, no apologies at all......... read more

I refuse to buy meat from Aldi as it always has a weird texture or taste and the produce use to be very good quality and it's awful now. I bought corn the other day and it tasted like plastic or chemicals and one of the ears was completely moldy on the bottom. The strawberries if you don't eat in a day start going bad. read more

I shop here on a regular basis. The processed foods are cheaper and the same quality as other house brands sometimes better. The choices on produce are limited but usually only limited by what is in season, which saves money on producing, shipping and they can charge less. The canned goods are well priced but you won't find anything but basics. The meat is not bad for the price but you once again have a limited selection. This selection though is as fair to good quality as you find at HEB. The dairy is much less than any other grocery stores and compares well to others. The paper products are the only complaint I ever have, they are low quality and just as expensive as others. All in all the food is basic and well-priced. I love the concept it's self too. The store is small which allows you to go through in less than an hour, you don't have to park half a mile away. You pay your quarter to use a cart and to get it back by being a reasonable human and putting your cart back. Which protects my car and keeps costs down. The cashiers are efficient and friendly but don't have time to entertain the idea that people are incapable of doing anything for themselves, like bagging their own groceries. The line gets long for a minute because there is one cashier but when they see it getting long they ring the bell and help is on the way. That help gets there quickly because they don't have to travel over two to three acres to get from one side of the store to the other. I have never been out of another grocery store faster with the same amount of groceries. The corners they have cut do make the customer take some responsibility for themselves, they provide basics so that you can make any dish you please with what is in season but you can't just open a can and call it dinner. You don't get plastic bags that are made from oil, a nonrenewable product. You do have to put your cart back where you got it from. I happily shop here because all of these corners save me money. read more
