We were referred by our friends whom we've witnessed their apartment having been painted beautifully. They recommended Aldo and Alvy's attention to detail, service, as well as clean up. I was so impressed with this business, which was recommended by someone on the Forest Hill's Facebook page. I planned to hire them back in March, and then...When I called up at the beginning of this week to schedule the job (painting a newly renovated bathroom and part of my son's bedroom ceiling, which had water damage), Alvy remembered me and responded right away. Altho he initially said he was booked up through June, he was able to slot us in for Friday with his Uncle. They started yesterday morning and just finished! I highly recommend Aldo and Alvy. You can trust them to do superb work. They just completed my living room, dining room master bedroom, new staircase risers and spindles, and stripped and painted a very, very old door. Their work is excellent - level 5. I had interviewed many painters. Aldo and Alvy's price was in line with all other bids. But I felt they would bring more care and expertise to my project - and they did. The house is challenging because there are crown moldings, archways with moldings, keystones, many doors and a huge fireplace with detail that needed to stay sharp. Add to that, I had a new staircase that needed to be expertly stained, and sealed. And the new risers and spindles needed to be painted. I also had a damaged wall, which required skim coating. And one door, from the original house built in 1921, needed years of paint stripped. It was essentially a restoration project. Aldo and Alvy exceeded my expectations (and my husband's expectations) with all work. My walls look smooth as silk. The edging on the molding is straight and perfect. There are no drips. There is no paint on the doorknobs or switch plates (they removed them). The staircase staining and sealing is beautiful and exactly the color I wanted. The painted surfaces are smooth - no brush marks at all. The door, which was ugly from decades of paint jobs, gained all its detail back. At the start of the job, Aldo and Alvy quickly and neatly moved all furniture into the room. Everything was covered at all times. Their work is neat and they work at a good pace - not slow and not sloppy-fast. This was a five-day job and everything was left neat and tidy at the end of each day. They started on time and ended on time. When the job was done, they carefully moved all furniture back in place, replaced switch plates, door knobs , plates and hung mirrors and wall art. And most impressive, I was actually asked to carefully inspect all work and make sure I was happy. If not, they would take care of any issues. I had made a mistake forgetting to tell Aldo to remove three nails from a wall - this after the job was completed - and Aldo graciously fixed it. I would hire Aldo and Alvy again. In late July, I started looking for someone to paint my daughter's room. I wanted a specific date, as the room was going to be empty of the old furniture and my daughter was at sleep away camp. Several people recommended Aldo and Alvy to me, but alas, they were booked out for a solid month so I hired someone else. That was a huge mistake--the people I hired are general handymen, not painters by trade, and did, quite frankly, an awful job. Paint was left all over the floor, the hallway, and my bathroom in addition to the sloppy work. I refused to live with the paint job for the next several years, and reached out to Alvy to see if there was something he could do--and, as it turns out, he could! He brought his apprentice along within a few days and spent a couple of hours painting the ceiling (which hadn't been done) to correct the seams as best as possible. He also cleaned up the light switch, and painted our window sills with an easy to clean gloss. I am thrilled with Alvy's work and highly recommend him and his crew. Alvy responded to me very quickly and set up a time the following day to come over for an estimate. During his visit to our home, Alvy was extremely thorough and honest regarding the scope of the work and the timing of the project due to my pregnancy. Alvy shared that due to my pregnancy and the potential dust from the wallpaper removal, he would not recommend completing the project at this time. Have to admit i dont agree with the rave reviews. My place needed alot of work and they came down on their original quote because they knew it was out of my budget which was nice, however the work that was done seemed to reflect the lower price. Place was not cleaned nightly so dust was tracking all through my home. Paint has bubbles and walls has uneven seams and spots which was agreed they would take care of. The old saying you get what you pay for is true however i expect a good company to maintain a certain quality of work. If a price is agreed on the quality of work shouldnt suffer if its "harder" than expected. I hired them based on recommendations and looking back at the quality of work i recieved i wish i would of saved the money and did it myself. I had to finish the job myself. They were supposed to come back to finish some loose ends and once i made final payment i never heard from them again. I would not use again in future read more
