Fantastic experience. The ambiance, decor, and overall atmosphere were absolutely wonderful - definitely a place with a great vibe. The staff provided excellent customer service, and the selection of adult beverages was impressive. The food was a standout, particularly the pizza. This place even has a sweet rooftop bar over looking beautiful crime free Midtown Memphis. I have enjoyed every whole pizza I've had here. I have had it catered at the office a bunch. I wish that I could come here more often and actually dine in, but my wife slings pizzas (kinda) for a living, and it's just not even able to be on my radar. Topped with their signature cheese blend, pepperoni, onion, and green peppers The cheese is SO good and the crust is the best texture and flavor. It's buttery, flaky, and crispy like a biscuit almost (similar to fresh Pizza Hut breadsticks if I had to make a comparison to one of my guilty pleasures) I typically always leave the ends of the crust but I ate every piece of this one. My friend and I tried the garlic knots with the tomato sauce was a perfect appetizer before our pizzas. I decided to build my own pizza with pepperoni, caramelized onion, and bacon. Just a typical pizza joint. No bells and whistles. Just a casual and laid back atmosphere but I enjoyed. We were a large group but service was very good. The servers were attentive and brought out orders out fairly fast. Firstly we tried the meatballs and hummus for an appetizer. They both were pretty good. There are quite a few selections of pizza to choose from including options to fit all dietary needs. Someone in my party was gluten free so they made a pizza to accommodate her. The rest of us enjoyed the Memphis (pulled bbq pork topping), chicken pizza, cheese pizza, and a meat lovers. They are not stingy with the toppings at all and the slices were huge. Oh yea, if you're feeling fun & free as I did, be sure to try a delicious cocktail. I had the Nutella martini and it was delicious and gave me the bite I was seeking. Pizza was good, but not spectacular. I split the one with the mango chutney with a friend because it sounded the most interesting. I liked it a lot, but not sure it's worth the drive to go to Aldo's in the future when there are so many other great pizza places around. The menu is a little limited IMO. Also, this is what really irked me...they automatically tack on 20% tip regardless (7% for to-go orders) on in-house dining. We definitely did not have 20% tip service. Wait time between order and pizza drop off was extremely high for just pizza (restaurant was not busy whatsoever) and we were neglected in the entirety of that time - no refills, no checking on us whatsoever. We only got refills once the pizza was dropped off. Forcing people to tip a certain amount (especially one so high) is enough to make me not want to return. I'd be okay with 10% added for in house dining with the option to add more, but 20% is absurd. And forcing anything except just the option to add a tip for to-go orders is ridiculous. read more

So I will say the food here is great. I order a Nutella martini every time I come. For food my go to is a customized vodka pizza with seasoned shrimp and roasted red peppers. I then sometimes top it with the oil served with garlic knots. This meal is chefs kiss. The cons are The wait stuff is attentive but they seem to always be short staffed. This is surprising despite my next qualm - that gratuity. Dine in gratuity is 20 percent which is annoying but doable for a middle class person with no children. I do not believe this is doable for many couples with multiple children or people just looking for good and cheap eats. While I can appreciate Aldo's trying to take care of their staff I do think it impacts people's tips and might alienate non upper middle class families looking for a fun night out. This was my first visit to Aldo's Midtown location and I was glad to learn that the food was just as delicious as the original location downtown. I ordered the Button Man pizza which came topped with the four-cheese blend, black olives, red onions, green peppers and mushrooms -- all on top of Aldo's signature chewy yet just crispy enough crust. The black olives were a savory accompaniment to the fresh and crisp red onions and green bell peppers. The mushrooms added a familiar earthy flavor. The four-cheese blend added another savory layer to the pie. I ordered the 12" pizza and nearly finished it without issue. I really liked the casual atmosphere of this location, which blends well with the rest of the Cooper-Young/Midtown area. The service was fast and friendly. The place is in a nice location. The pizza is pretty spot on. I've been to a lot of pizza places so it didn't really jump out at me to be honest, but it is a good pizza spot if you want a change of scenery from pizza hut, little Ceasars, etc. I wasn't a huge fan of the Canoli. It may just be me, though. I didn't get enough sweet from it, and I was hoping for the crust not to be as hard. One thing that is a takeaway for me is that even on a slow day, they have a policy that you are not allowed to eat your food there if you order it to go. Which of course I get the concept "to-go" means TO GO. But we were in a rush, and to eat inside was a 35-minute wait. Anyways, to compensate, I even bought food to eat while sitting there. They didn't want to give me my pizza and only give me the food I ordered there, which absolutely didn't make sense. If I purchased something that took less time to make and technically am allowed to eat there now, why are you trying to keep my pizza b/c it was to go???? The crust is always perfectly toasted and I haven't had a bad pizza. Some of their funkier options like Willie, Cheech & Bob also shine, but I typically stick with their lighter Margherita. My girlfriend can't have dairy and orders a cheese-free pizza, and it's honestly sometimes better than mine, which is something I rarely say about pizza. It's a testament to their fresh base sauce. I loved Aldo's pizza but since I am trying to do low carb, I got the stuffed peppers. They were the smallest poblano peppers I've ever seen. It was $14 for two 3" peppers stuffed with cheese that were about 2"' wide and maybe 1/2" tall. Wish I'd taken a pic - I think I might as just a bit stunned.
