What a gem this place is!!! I stopped in before my reservation at sukeban next door. The bartender was the sweetest. She helped me with some tips on how to grow a pineapple as well. I have been here several times, but only for drinks. The beer selection is impressive, Guinness on draft included, and the atmosphere is a nice low-key alternative to Oak Wine bar, which can be loud and frenetic at times. The service here is nice, not overly friendly. My friend and I made the mistake of ordering martinis here - they were made appropriately, but served in a small glass that wasn't filled anywhere close to the top. We thought it was a fluke and ordered another round- nope. Same 3/4 full tiny glass. I suppose we shouldn't have ordered martinis at a beer bar, but they are fully stocked. I really enjoy this place! There are a few tables inside and outdoor seating. They offer a small menu for food and have a great beer selection. They are connected to a wine bar so when we have a group its easy for everyone to find what they like to drink. The wings and brussel sprouts are damn tasty. This is a very cute little location on Oak Street that boasts a sizable beer selection and some great bar snacks - our little group ended up grabbing a hummus plate, fries, and Brussels sprouts to share (highly recommend the sprouts. These were delicious). Our group stuck to the beer selection for drinks, but I did see the bartenders making some interesting cocktails, so I'm certain you can have whatever kind of night you're trying to have in this space. There is limited seating inside, but the main space is definitely the pictured outdoor patio area. Please note that as of June 2021, masks are required if you're sitting inside the bar. I'm ALWAYS here. I work down the street so happy hour is only two blocks away. We sometimes do work group happy hours here. The service is always great. The bartenders are super friendly. The drinks are great. I usually get a dark 'n stormy but recently tried a scotch sour and it was pretty good. They have an extensive beer selection. I love sitting out on the patio. They have nice sized tv's outside to watch games on. I can't go here and not get French fries. They are great. The wings and Brussels sprouts are good too. Ale is the perfect location for a Saturday outing with friends... Picture it... It was 2018 the weather was slightly rainy, not hot, not cold...but just right... Football was on and upon entry into Ale, there were people enjoying... As we looked around our eyes wandered on a beautiful table in the window, where we can peer out into the street and window watch as well as catch the game if we wanted. I drunk a well BALANCE (Balance is always hard..its a scientist and only a drink scientist can do this) Mimosa. It was perfect as I talked with friends and peered out at the rain. It was a great experience, I felt as if I was in a romantic comedy minus the romance. The staff made the experience even more enjoyable, they were super cool, friendly and helpful. Ale on Oak is absolutely a Carrollton area staple! They have an awesome beer selection that changes all the time with a nice balance of local and non-local beer. Would recommend anything from urban south or parish brewing. The food is delish too! Would recommend the wings, fries, and beer cheese burger! There's tons of tvs and always a good crowd for the LSU and Saints game making it a great game watch spot. The outdoor courtyard is my favorite place to sit. It connects to Oak wine bar and it has heaters in the winter time. Ale is definitely an underrated Nola spot that everyone should try. read more

It was somewhat cramped and loud. The food is tasty and comes pretty quickly. I really enjoyed it. Prices are average bar food prices. Good drink selection as well. I tasted the fried pickles and shrimp rangoon. I was not sharing any of it. Everyone with us seemed to enjoy what they ordered as well... Mac n cheese, cuban sandwhiches, fries were devoured pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend the food here but find it hard to have a conversation with anyone. But hey, plenty of people mean plenty of business and theyre doing something right. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood go-tos. The large patio is great for al fresco dining and watching sports and the inside is small but has nice seating options. Service is at the bar, and it's usually staffed well. I've had only one not great experience getting prompt service. The drinks are a bit spendy, but they are well crafted (along with Barrel Proof, this is a fave spot of mine for Hemingway Daiquiris) and they have a nice selection of beer on tap and in cans. Sunday's special is $5 Bloody Marys and Mimosas. The food is also steeply priced, but everything I've had has been delicious. The debris fries are aces with an nice helping of cracked black pepper. Other good dishes I've had are fried dill pickles, brisket tacos, oyster sliders and a nice arugula salad. read more

A truly great pub to go to for drinks and sports. Love the beer selection they have and the place is much bigger than it looks from the outside; they have an outdoor section that is unseen from the front. Compare to many other bars around the area, this is one of the cleaner ones with the price to show it. The bartenders are far from the best in town, but they are one of the better ones on Oak Street; though I have never been here when it's packed. Last time I came here, I fancied an old fashioned. And while the bartender used all the right ingredients with the right counts, she didn't prepare it properly. So, from a bartender to a bartender, I gave her a few tips and she got it right for the couple next to us. The Maraschino cherries she garnished were to die for. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a place to drink on South Carrollton as it's one of the better bars in the area. read more

They go quite good with a cold beer, perfect to share at a table. Just one block off of Carrollton, Ale is a good after work stop. NOTE: The bar staff weren't particularly friendly, not rude, just there... Man, I please and thank you-ed and not one smile was given... or a "You're Welcome". I get it, not everyone is Mr./Miss Ray of Sunshine, but dang, a little more hospitality wouldn't hurt. They were attentive, just not the typical New Orleans friendly that is the usual. read more

Found myself on Oak st today, I actually have some friends that live down there and they've been telling me about Ale for about a month or so, finally decided to stroll on in. From the street, it looks like a space that nothing is happening in. In fact, it's quite easy to miss. The inside is real clean and modern looking, nice wood finish on the tables, floors, and the back wall by the kitchen. There's sure no shortage of TV's in this place tho, there's one in view just about anywhere you sit in the place. Outside is no exception, plenty of outdoor seating and TV viewing. There's another bar connected via the patio but it wasn't open when we were there so I only got to peek in through the windows, seemed legit tho. Didn't try any of the food, but I did want to sample the fried bread pudding. I thought 6 or 7 dollars was a bit expensive for fries but they were going out to other tables by the crap-load so I guess they're worth it. I'll keep them in mind if I find myself back in there. read more

I was so pumped to sit in their pretty little courtyard in the balmy weather after it had been unseasonably chilly in NOLA all week. Their chalkboard above the bar was slightly misleading, titled "Happy Hour", but didn't list the times. When I asked the bartender, he explained that the listed items are just daily specials. He said, "Yea.. we should probably fix that." ;) SO - if you're there on Saturday at any time, get a $5 bloody or mimosa. Cha Ching! They have delicious French fries with aioli, and the brisket tacos were interesting! They had just the right amount of spice thanks to a single jalapeño slice. (Only one per bite, for me!) Biggest let-down: they advertised having fresh boiled crawfish, but had already sold out by 5pm. It happens! I'll definitely go back!!! read more

Great beer selection, and our bartender tonight was very attentive. My only "complaint" was the cost of the food for what we got. The flatbread, in my opinion, should be offered under the appetizer menu, not as a "something more" item. It was $12, and lacking in substantial topping to amount to its pricetag. My husband's burger was $11, and definitely more of a meal. Fries were $7, but not a $7 portion, in my opinion. Will come back for tge beer, but eat before. read more

Ale is a pretty cool beer spot. While I wouldn't go and call it the BEST beer bar in the city, they do a good job of representing some of the best craft beer out there. We stopped in semi-late (11 or so) on a Saturday night and the place was slam packed. We were able to find a spot at the bar and looked over the beer menu. I got a couple of IPA's which I enjoyed. As I said, this place has a pretty good selection. I have a few complaints: the bar is really loud- don't expect to have a conversation of any sort, if the place is at full capacity. Service is slow- this is understandable considering the crowd, but just a heads up if you are out one night and in the mood for a "quick" drink. There are a lot of tvs- like almost too many for the size of the space. I get that they want to have tvs to show games and stuff, but if there is no game on there is really no need to have a different tv movie playing on every television. I doubt anyone here was paying attention, so just turn the tvs off and let people chat. There is seating outside, but on the night we came it was pretty cold, so we decided to just stick it out indoors. I actually plan to return on maybe a week night when it won't be so crowded to see if my experience is different. If it is, I will definitely re-review. I would also love to be able to sit out on the patio on a night when it isn't 40-something degrees. read more

The best thing about this place, the night I went in, was the bartender. I hate that I didn't get his name! He was awesome, and helpful. I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat between the brisket tacos and the oyster sliders. He suggested the sliders, and I went with the tacos! When my plate came out there was a slider on there, "to show me why I should of listened"! Boy was he right! He also gave some nice suggestions when I told him I wanted to branch out try some new beers. The vibe in this place is great as well. Service is always hit n miss. Wanted a cheese plate and asked if they could hold the bleu cheese and add a little extra of one of the other cheeses. Bartender said she would give it her best shot but made it clear she couldn't be sure that it won;t come with bleu cheese because her spanish was not so good. She made it clear that this was burden and asked me if there was something else I would want. How hard can it be to just hold the bleu cheese on a cheese plate. So I just gave in and ordered fries which sucked. The aoli is awesome and the cocktail was decent too. The fries were so greasy it was gross and of course I got no napkins with them. I guess she did her best when asking for napkins but it just didn't work out given her lack of spanish? Think I'm done with that place. Ale NOLA offers 30 beers on tap along with bottles, cans and liquor. They have a small kitchen in the back slinging bar grub to hungry folks. A shared patio with its sister bar, Oak Wine Bar, makes for an interesting dynamic with some folks wandering back and forth. Ale NOLA and Oak Wine don't have a shared billing system so you cant have a tab on one side and use it on the other. The dimensions of this long and narrow space are equivalent to a shotgun single. read more
