Cajun Mikes is locate on the south side of Baronne Street just west of Canal Street. I won't go into why and how I ended up going here tonight, but wow, am I glad I did. When you enter Cajun Mike's, it screams right into your face "Dive Bar!" From the tin ceiling to the well weathered bar top, fancy is not on the menu here. I came here because I heard their food was top notch, and I was hungry and grabbing food to go, so less walking to the hotel was the strategy so the food wouldn't be freezing when I got it back to the room. I perused the menu and decided on a few red beans and rice, a gator sausage po boy, a shrimp po boy and a roast beef po boy. I figured I may as well bring back a good sampling for both of us to try. I placed my order with the female bartender and then ordered a can of beer, no taps in this swanky joint. While I waited for my food to come out, I drank my beer and listened to the regulars and the bartender talk about various topics. My food was delivered pretty quickly, I then embarked on my walk back to the hotel. Once I arrived, we heated up the red beans and rice as it was not warm, but once it was, it was delicious. The big chunks of sausage really made it good and it had just the right amount of spice. All three of the po boy sandwiches were delicious in their own way: the shrimp was crispy and tender and full of flavor. The roast beef was full of flavor and absolutely delicious and the hair sausage was moist and flavorful as well. Each one was great in their own way. While o cannot speak much to the actual bar, since I spent limited time there, I can say the food here is outstanding. My beer was cold which is all I can ask for from a bar really. If you're hungry and don't want to venture down bourbon street, this place has great food that is reasonably priced. read more

If you like old dive bars, you will love this place It's clean, Great, atmosphere, friendly staff, cold Yuengling beer, and great food. A cool little bar just off Canal away from the noisy chaos of the Quarter. Friendly bartender slings drinks, takes food orders, and delivers food. The drinks are good and the food is delicious, except for the catfish po-boy I ordered. Not sure if it was the fish or me (I never had catfish before), but it was awful. This is the best local dive ever. We are traveling and I wanted to find dinner but everything is so touristy. So I just walked the streets and came across this hidden local gem. The bartender was super cool but spicy, so be ready. She is going to treat you like a local. The food was amazing. The Po' Boys were great, the bread was chewy and soft, the pork was tender and flavorful, the alligator sausage was tasty, the fries were so crispy. The drinks were good and it smelled like a dive! It's probably one of the divier (is that a word? Heh...) dive bars I've hit in NOLA. Recommended by our hotel bartender, he did warn it's a really small, no-nonsense, no frills place. "But it's a good chill place, and the drinks are very affordable." He also mentioned going there after his shift (which was in a few minutes) so Hubbers, Big Bro and I decided to follow for a nightcap. And he's right: they truly are a small dive bar. Nothing showy or amazing, it really is just a bar. And like most bars I've been to in NOLA, it does have its own personality as well as a following. It was somewhat full for a midweek random night. We each had a drink and boy, are they generous with the liquor!(I went for a hurricane.) I'll admit I'd already had a couple before walking through here, but this last drink truly did me in. Came to NOLA for an extended fun birthday weekend. We couldn't find this place, drove around the block to find out that it literally was behind us when we parked! Nathan was our bartender. Great service! Mac made our food. OMG... Soooo good! The seasoning on the sweet potato fries was so good that I didn't put any ketchup on them. The sample with poutin balls, jalepeño poppers, hot wings, and mozzarella sticks. We ended with the alligator poboy. Again, it's so flavorful! This is a small, dark bar. So I wasn't expecting much from this place coz it was a bar. I'm glad I was proven wrong coz the sandwiches we had ordered were delicious. I got the alligator sausage po' boy and my hubby got the cochon de lait po' boy. The surprise was the cochon coz it was something new and different. All the other places I went to for jambalaya were busy as fuck I guess because it was Valentine's Day, but this place was amazing. The jambalaya I had was filling it came in a small Styrofoam cup, though, which was kind of Janky it tasted good had a little bit more rice than I would like, but the flavor was amazing. I also got the gator sausage soup, which was good. I ended up giving it to a homeless person though because the jambalaya was enough for me. Everything else is too busy. Come by a Cajun Mikes and you can get a good meal and a stiff drink. read more

We arrived in town on a late flight and were beat when we finally got checked into the room. We just wanted something quick and casual so we could then rest up for the night and hit the ground running the next morning. I whip out the trusty Yelp! app and see this place is 0.01 miles away and has a 4 star rating. Plus, Mike is in the name of the business. (Yes, I do that. :P) Sold! It is, indeed, very close. It's basically right off Canal Street and just a stone's throw from the big, gaudy Walgreens. We walk in and it just screams dive bar. It's a very casual and laid back atmosphere here and I love it. The shot list is downright hilarious (as long as you're not easily offended!). Went to the bar and ordered 2 Roast Beef Po-boys and a couple of drinks. The bartender was nice enough, but I wasn't necessarily expecting 5 star, 5 diamond service in a dive bar. This set me back $33 before tip. First reason for 2 stars: The sandwiches were pretty good. They were pretty sloppy, but in a good way! The bread was a little tough, but the meat was good. If it wasn't for the sandwiches this would be a 1 star review for sure. Second reason for 2 stars: During the course of my time here (roughly 30 minutes from walking in to walking out), we saw a rat run across the floor and several roaches crawling on the walls. As I was talking to my friend a pretty plump roach crawled across the wall behind him. Yikes, Pretty distracting. There was also a real funky smell about the place that also made it tough to enjoy the food. Actually, that's understating quite a bit. It smelled like a worn area of Bourbon Street very late into the night. No bueno. Suddenly I'm not enjoying my food so much. Roaches and rats are not required accent pieces to a good dive bar. I use to grab lunch here before Covid and the gator poboy use to be pretty good. Well I went today and it was just ok. Serving I guess was good for the price. It's a gator poboy dressed with fries for less than $15. But the gator sausage was so thin, I was just eating bread. The fries are still pretty good. My biggest complaint was there were literally 3 people at the bar when I walked in and the bartender didn't bother to give a head nod or acknowledge me at all until he came to ask what I needed. That's unusual for New Orleans. And the place really smelled funky so it made me nervous to eat. Like outside back door funky. read more

And, yep, it def smells like a dive - and you'll get over it, settle in, have some cheap beers and food, and you'll be better for it. This has been a go to for me every time I visit NoLa for a decade now. The bartenders and kitchen staff are always excellent. I just downed a roast beef po boy and the chef came out to ask how it was. Service with a personal touch. The place is legit. Po boys, wings, gumbo and red beans are all fire. May be one of the best dive bars in the CBD. The food is delicious, affordable, and the perfect bar food. The bartenders are consistently great to talk to and attentive to what I needed. The vibe is exactly what you want from a dive, I've had plenty of great conversations with patrons at the bar. Other than the house liquors being sub par, I would say it is overall an excellent spot. Living in New Orleans and spending a lot of time in the Quarter I have no idea why we had never been to Cajun Mikes before. A friend of ours recommended it for the vibe and food. He called it a step down from Cheers and I think that was a pretty accurate description. It's been there forever which makes it a great little dive. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. Bartender was friendly and apparently there were many regulars mixed with tourists. I had the burger and onion rings, the hubby had the grilled chicken sandwich. My burger was delicious! It was kind of chargrilled with just the right amount of char. The onion rings were small and crispy (I don't like them too big) obviously not made in house but still really good. I would recommend to anyone willing to cross over Canal to eat at a good dive. read more
