Miracle on Magazine is one of the best holiday pop ups in the city. It's worth the wait in line and time it takes to get a drink. Barrel Proof does this well!! Staff is always ready and on point. I love to meet friends during the winter holiday season. They always go above and beyond on the decorations. This special time a year, they offer creative cocktails in fun drink ware (also available for purchase). A group gathered to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were lucky to grab a big table because they tend to fill up fast. Everyone ordered different drinks at the bar and what an assortment of fun drinking vessels. Mine was shaped like a T-Rex. After a while their kitchen opened and we all ordered a variety of different wings and parmesan fries. Great place for anyone who loves whiskeys, they have a zillion or so. read more

Went for their Christmas pop up! Only got beer but they were mixing cocktails left and right. Seemed pretty on it when it came to getting to everyone but the real draw was the decor! Absolutely worth a stop in. The Santa up front was hilarious and treated everyone who came in! read more

I mer a friend here for happy hour! They have a very good Old Fashioned and during happy hour it's only $6. The place is cool with an industrial feel and it's near the Garden District which is great. The bartender was so nice and attentive! Would recommend. read more

This is a cool old classic bar, well outside the Quarter in the Garden District. It's dark and the bar keeps are friendly. The lineup of whiskey options is outstanding (and not outrageously priced), and there are a few tables to sit outside. You need to get your drinks at the bar, but that's what a "manly" bar is meant to be. read more

I blacked out by this point of the night. My wife and friends told me that the bouncer thought we were locals, so that was cool. And they even quoted me as saying that the nitro cold brew was "fire". I do remember being at the bar and I recall it being totally my vibe. Would come again. read more

Super cute and the bartenders were amazing.... but..... the website makes it clear their hours are "4PM-1AM. EVERYDAY." So it was kind of odd to me that when we were walking inside at 11:55pm, the bouncer was telling us it was last call and the lights up were all being turned up. Is is customary to close an hour early? :( It was my first time attending the pop up for Xmas and it was a little disappointing... I guess they were done washing the festive cups too :( read more

As I was visiting New Orleans during the Christmas season, I had to check out at least 1 pop-up bar. It was within easy walking distance from my hotel in the Garden District and came recommended by the hotel staff. It was absolutely filled to the brim with holiday decor complete with Christmas themed bevvies served in the cutest mugs (I should've bought one but alas). There was a bit of a wait to get inside but it wasn't horrible. Chatting with the other revelers was a good way to pass the time. There was food onsite of which I didn't get a chance to try. It's the same as any packed pop-up in any decent sized city in regards to wait times for ordering drinks but not overly long. Even going solo, a good time was had. read more

This bar has been a staple in my New Orleans living experience since I moved here back in 2018. When my now husband proposed to me Feb 2018 this is the first place we went to celebrate! The variety of alcohol brands are impressive, they have an AMAZING Frozen Margarita (which is on Happy Hour for $5!) and they NOW have awesome food pop up restaurant called Marchbox Kitchen that serves delicious fusion type dishes - ramen etc. They have a seasonal Christmas drink menu that people stand in lines for around the holidays and they are always welcoming when we come in! Transparency: not a huge New Orleans fan in general. But this place has the best vibes and Michael & Craig are the BEST bartenders. We gave them a spirit and flavor profile and they concocted the most delicious drinks. The vibe is a lounge with tons of bar seating and some nice tables and booth seating. Awesome place! For us bourbon guys, we want a good selection of well priced bourbon . But more importantly, we want the staff to know their stuff especially when you are working at a place called Barrel Proof. Huge whiskey collection in a fun environment. Feels like a half dive bar half neighborhood watering hole. "Standing on business" being the apparent theme this year, I wasn't gonna write about this but I can't let what I believe and feel to be racism go. This happened a while ago and I'm not sure if the same girl is even working here anymore because I've yet to come back since this encounter. Don't know her name but she's the Native American-looking chic with tattoos. Just rude and doesn't deserve to be in hospitality imo. First I was straight up ignored for a solid 10 minutes at the bar as she breezed past me multiple times, purposefully taking other's orders. Then when she can finally ignore me no more, takes my order and proceeded to tell me she has to run my card first before making my drink. I was furious. I know this not to be the case. I was the only black guy at the bar waiting to order as she served literally every other white person there, I even watched her take other's orders without having to tell anyone else that their card had to be ran first. It was my girl that had to put it more into perspective for me because I also work in hospitality and was just giving her the benefit of the doubt but eff that! She sucks. From what I've been hearing of other people's experience at Barrel Proof lately has not been exactly stellar either. Apparently mostly everyone that works there has the worst attitudes and must hate their jobs. Word of the wise to y'all: f^*king quit. Y'all should be making good enough money over there for how busy y'all get and there's plenty of other happy, qualified service industry workers that should take y'all's place and bring the good vibes back from the Bridge Lounge days. Nobody else stood out to me as far as bad service went except that girl, you know who you are, go kick rocks barefooted down Bourbon. read more

Great spot to hang out with plenty of seating and some better than average cocktails and beers! While visiting, a friend from LGD invited me to meet up here, so hopes were higher than if I'd just picked this place randomly. The dark warehouse is open, large and spills out onto the patio. Lighting is low but colorful. Seating is plentiful with only some support beams breaking up the room. This isn't a place for intimate chats. I was impressed by the cocktails. They were probably the best I'd had in a week in New Orleans with most skewing too far into the overly-sweet taste range. These tasted smoother and more mature. Music selection was pretty average for a bar like this. Service was great! Quick and goty orders correct. I would go back here. read more

I will admit that I wasn't a fan when this place first opened. I was a huge fan of the Bridge Lounge during its early days. This was the 3rd bar on our boozy Saturday after brunch. I was pleasantly surprised that it still had a bit of the bridge lounge feel. Crowd was a bit more pretentious though. Lol. The pop up food vendor in the back was the star of the night bc we were starving after all of the hopping. The lemon chicken is phenomenal. Tangy and delicious. All bars should be required to have hot food offerings. Lol. Not a super great local beer selection but overall a solid bar. read more

We came here during the holidays for the Christmas bar pop up and how beautiful it was! Barrel Proof is normally a dark, dive bar and the lights and decor made this place to happy and bright! The christmas drinks are amazing the only down side is each drink costs around $11 or $12 min, most between $14 and $16. It is a special occasion, so treat yourself! They did have happy hour when we went which was old fashioneds and mini margs from 4-6. I love the different mugs and how festive everything was. The bartenders are super professional and really know what they are doing. They are like the bartenders in any upscale place, like The Sazerac Bar or the Carousel Bar. They were all perfect, craft cocktails. We did not eat anything unfortunately so I cant comment on that, but do plan to come back here for some grub. read more

Great place to go and hang out with people, especially if you love great whisky cocktails. They have some awesome specials, especially if you get there during their happy hour when they first open. It really starts swinging most nights, and is a great place no matter what time you show up. They currently have a little holiday popup going on, so they have drink specials and barware specials, too. I really wanted the T-rex Santa ceramic drinking glass, but they were already sold old. The bartenders are all quite knowledgeable, and understandable not always patient as the night wears on, but they're always good at making sure you're safe. The music is also a plus. Parking around there isn't too bad, although some of the side streets nearby can feel a little sketch if you're going solo, so just be mindful, as you always should when heading out at night in a city like NOLA. Over all, a good time. Definitely recommend! read more

Overcrowded, waited in line 20 minutes and waited another 5 mins trying to get a drink at the bar before taking a hike. Its maybe cool if you are a college student, but don't see the appeal of you are older than 23. read more

We weren't here king but had to place order at hostess station near front door and had to go up to request additional drinks; no server followed up w/ us - not sure because of covid or...? It was a ok spot not alot of options if u are a Corona, Abita Purple Haze type of guy. It took us about 5 mins to get served. My friend wanted a Rum Punch and I thought I seen the guy roll his eyes but I let it slide. If u are a older person I wouldn't recommend this place, it was more of a Tulane University vibe if u ask me, definitely no offense to the Green Wave. read more

Christmas Carol Barrel: reposado tequila, coffee liqueur, dry curaçao, spiced chocolate, aromatic bitters, orange bitters (contains dairy). Taste like a cold Mexican hot chocolate. Bad Santa: aged Jamaican rum, velvet falernum, mixed spiced butter, oat milk, and nutmeg (served hot, contains dairy). 10/10 the most delicious drink! I'd been to this place back when it was Bridge Lounge, but not since. Ive been twice now during the Miracle pop up. It's such a fun time. Miracle pop up is completely over the top... which is why it's so awesome! The drinks are creative and tasty. The bartenders are nice. The music isn't real loud thankfully. I went to Barrel Proof to pick up a bag for a Yelp Elite event. I decided to pop in for a drink. My first impression of the place was that it looks like a really neat place to hang out. The dining area looked nice and spacious. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. She was patient with me while I browsed the menu. She answered all my questions and took my order. She directed me to a spot that I could wait for my drink. I decided to use the restroom while I was waiting. The hostess had the bar hold my drink and got it for me when I came out. Some places will just leave your drink out where anyone can touch it. This was a big deal for me. I hope to be able to go back and spend more time there, order food, and try a few more drinks. read more

Stopped in Barrel Proof to grab a drink before dinner a Blue Giant. The bartenders were nice but so slow. We were trying to make a dinner before MNF (Saints v Dolphins). The place wasn't empty but it was close. They had two bartenders slinging drinks. Instead of slinging, it was more like a very slow, controlled and measured distribution of drinks. Cool ambiance. They have some decent outdoor seating. I suspect if you have all day and the place is slow, it might be a good spot to post up and hang out. read more

I definitely will be back for regular season but this review is based on the "Miracle Pop Up" that is currently going on at Barrel Proof. There are two locations for Miracle Pop Up in New Orleans and Barrel Proof is one of them. We went there on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving day and it surely was extremely packed as expected. They really do have an ample space for indoor sit down area, bar area and outdoor sitting area so it is super group friendly. For this seasonal event, the whole bar was pretty much bleeding in Christmas Decoration - there were multiple Christmas trees, Poinsettia, Christmas light, mistletoe, and ornaments every corner! If you order their special cocktails off of Miracle Pop Up menu, cocktails are served in stinking cute Christmas cups!!! These decorative cups mean nothing if the cocktails suck... BUT they were so so so amazing. I highly recommend the one in Santa Claus cup. It was purple in color. If you are in the mood for some holy jolly time, please come check this place out before they take the decorations off! read more

love the decor, love the music (rock and metal), and bar tenders were friendly and on top of their shit. drinks are made well, and about $12 which is expected for a good craft cocktail. theyre open until 12 even during the slow week days. outdoor has a few seats on the street. ask for the free matches, theyre cute. would come back in a heartbeat and enjoy some food. read more

I ordered a Pimm's cup since Pimm's was on the shelf - the bartender looked confused and told me they don't have any of the ingredients to make one. I changed my order to a flavored vodka - they don't stock any. I ended up ordering a Vodka & 7, but received a Vodka Soda. Were the drinks cheap? Not so much. Was the service friendly? Not so much. I ordered food hoping this was the redeeming feature of the bar. I ordered a steak sandwich at $18 - the service time was quick but the sandwich didn't have much flavor - it was a dry, difficult to bite through thin steak with not much flavor to speak of. The tater tots were crispy and hot and I loved the Brussel Sprouts; they were doused excessively in the dressing but I liked it. There is a nice patio out back - they had fans in this area which is always appreciated. This bar just didn't have the stock and amenities that many other bars in the area do have . Walk to magazine street for better options.

They have a few beers on tap and I'm sure more in bottles. I just stuck to getting Bass on tap. My only real complaint was that the place was a bit smoky, because it's small, but if you stay a little while it really isn't that bad.

Food came out great, my friends had the "Badass Burger" which they all praised, especially the fresh fries. I personally had the Hot 8 Sampler and a simple Bacon Quesadilla - and those were no slouch either. If I had anything to complain about, it's that the price is a little high for the food you get. Though, that's to be expected so close to the convention center in a dive like this. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience - and we'd all be happy to come back.
