Alebrije is a good restaurant for a casual bite to eat if you're in the mood for Mexican cuisine. Sometimes, the service can be slow but usually, it is speedy. Chips and salsa always come out quick. The menu has plenty to choose and the spices are generally on point. The guacamole is a wise choice, but make sure you get the basic order. There is not much to the place in terms of decoration, mostly alcohol related signage. The location is sub par because the busy state of Perkiomen Ave. The parking lot is a bit squished and cramped. Pulling out of the parking lot can be a long wait. If you can handle getting in and out of the lot, you'll be satisfied. It is quality, affordable Mexican food. read more

I'm split between 3 and 4 stars so I'm going w/ the higher number of stars. This restaurant is in Exeter, Pa. and has very good Mexican food. Sidebar, I have been specifically asking numerous restaurants to not salt my food so heavily. Since this was the first time to eat in this restaurant I have no idea how much sodium they use but they prepared my chicken Fajitas, for my taste, just perfectly. I tasted the tacos and burritos and each were nicely done. Cute restaurant, clean, neat and good service. The service certainly made the 4th star. Isn't it nice, when as a diner, you have a genuinely pleasant server who you can tell loves their work. That's not really a question. That's the difference between good and terrific. The food was good and came out a little faster than expected. The margarita was nice, but there was a strong taste of the mixer, but that's to be expected when the wait staff is doubling as the bar tender. Overall a nice place with modern decor. Terrible. The fajita came out hot but the plate wasn't sizzling? And seemed old. Hair in food. Beef tasted worse than Taco Bell. Waiter was 100% rushing us out and the restaurant was about 10% full. Will not be retuning, ever. read more

Quality Mexican joint, been going there for years and remember their BYO days. Decor is not as nice as their other locations, but we go there to eat, not admire stuff on the walls. They've pared the menu down a bit, but thats not a bad thing as they've stuck to what they're good at. Excellent food thats a good value. read more

Food was good got the carnitas tacos. Was only person in there so could t really gauge service but food was served fast and hot chips and salsa were on point the sauce that was on the side of the carnitas was banging they should have put it right on the carnitas they just didn't have to much flavor to them weren't crispy like authentic ones I've had before but they were good none the less. read more

The steamed rice is very good here. The hot sauce needs a bit more Cilantro to give it some umpf and little bit more zing. The waitress Patricia was very nice and doubled as bartender making a Margarita, which was okay, just a bit light on the Tequila. Chips decent. Cheese Enchilada needs some help such as yellow melted cheese on the inside and outside; and if they could put some brown meat gravy sauce on it, that would be even better along with some chopped onions. Beef Fajita Plate was pretty good and tasty. Place is nice inside and in a strip mall center right off of the main road with lots of businesses up and down. When I lived in Reading, this was one of my all time favorite places to eat! Since then I haven't been able to enjoy Mexican food anywhere else (namely the Johnny Mananas I live near). And their menu is huge! I love it! It's one of the few reasons I miss Reading. read more

I used to enjoy the food, but the quality has gone downhill. I had not been in for over a year, and decided to stop in last week. I ordered a chicken and vegetable dish; the chicken was so thin, tough and flavorless, and watery. Clearly, low quality and not fresh. My daughter ordered a salmon fillet. I don't think I have ever seen such a sad fillet. It could not have been more than 3/8" thick. Again, a prepackaged, frozen fillet of questionable quality. The experience is made worse with the marginal service. We had to ask for several items and remind the waitress for missing food. Too bad; Exeter has so few quality restaurants as it is. Was slightly disappointed with the wait before we got seated, almost seemed like they needed another waitress. The atmosphere was relaxed, a great place for groups to go. The food was excellent, fresh and well seasoned. You do get chips and salsa for free while you wait for your meal. I would recommend the Chicken Spinach Quesadilla. Went there for Cinco de Mayo. We used to really like this place but were pretty disappointed on this trip. For appetizers we had the pablano soup, which didn't impress, the cheesy fries were undercooked. The steak and chorizo tacos were always my favorite but this time they had little to no chorizo. My wife had Choripollo, she said it was good but not great. The kids had quesadillas, which were meh. I'd blame it on being to crowded for the Mexican holiday but it wasn't crowded at all at 5 pm. read more

I have had a lot better Mexican. If you are in a rush this is a good place to go. The food comes out really fast but has no flavor. Anything that you get with ground beef taste like nothing. It doesn't seem like they use any seasoning on the beer. The price is great for the food you get. There are better Mexican places in Reading. The do have Cholula which is is plus. read more

This was our run of the mill semi-local Mexican restaurant. The food was quite good, but nothing worth writing home about. The service was good, but nothing spectacular. I'd definitely plan to visit again, but it's the same Americanized Mexican you can find at 1000 other restaurants throughout the US. read more

We recently visited and had a mixed experience. The patron margarita was very good. The table side guacamole was the best thing on the table. We ordered a double order of steak fajitas which came out cold (we asked why they were cold and they took them in the back, obviously reheated them and brought them back out). When we asked why they didn't come out sizzling like all the other fajitas we had watched coming out of the kitchen for the past 1/2hr, we were told that the double orders aren't cooked on cast iron, that the plates are different. That's fine, but they still should have been hot. Instead we paid $30 for rewarmed steak which by then was very chewy. We also ordered vegetable fajitas which were so bland and tasteless. We ended up with a bill that seemed more than what we received. I wish this meal was better as we love to support local business, but this was a big disappointment. We purposely skipped dessert so I cannot speak to that at this location. read more

We met friends here for an impromptu dinner. My friends meal was not correct. We blamed it on language barrier. She ordered fajitas and got what we were told was a quesadilla. Looked more like a steak taco. Another person never got his soup and my food arrived 10 minutes after everyone else's. We have to ask for more water twice and never got a refill on chips. Our waitress was nice but something was going on there the night we were there. They were apologizing all over the place. Another table sent food back and asked for a manager. Love the queso! Margueritas are also a staple here...and they are strong! After eating crunchy chips with salsa and warm queso (FYI Moe's queso is flavorless and disgusting compared to Alebrije queso). I had the carne asada (steak strips with onion, peppers, tortillas, rice, refried beans, and a delicious sauce for the steak). This was my second time ordering this meal. I recommend this, the quesadilla, beef empanadas, fajitas, tacos, burritos, or taco salads. I have never had a bad meal here, nor at either of the other two locations. Waitstaff is busy yet fast and friendly, but you do need to ask for things...it would be nice if they anticipated needs for extra napkins, drinks, etc. I love the authenticity of this place compared to larger chains like On the Border and the prices are better. The restaurant had a very nice ambiance. It was clean and I liked the staff, they were very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. they made me feel very comfortable with asking questions. The food selection was unique and beautifully presented. My wife and I ordered the tortilla soup as an appetizer, the bowls they brought were filled with the chicken, tortilla strips and fresh avocado arranged in a very esthetic way and the broth was poured over the top using a porcelain tea pot! My son in law and I both got the ground beef chimichanga and sorry but "crispy" was in the description and it wasn't even close to that and it was so small. My husband and I had fajitas when they came out the cast iron serving which usually is very hot and you can hear the food is sizzling. I had a very bad experience at this restaurant! The food came out in minutes after ordering and when I received my food it was cold, as if if were reheated. I am not a complainer because I fear what places would do to my food if I have it returned. After taking a couple of bites I left my food alone and watch my husband pick at his food. Very disappointed in the experience we had ordering takeout this evening. I placed an order for myself and my mother over the phone at 6:12PM and was quoted a 15 minute wait time. We drove over to the restaurant where my mom went in to grab the food. The owner of the restaurant was chatting with a table (clearly people she knew personally, whether they were friends or regulars) and completely ignored that anyone was at the door. Even when her daughter brought it to her attention that someone required assistance for pickup she ignored my mother. I understand an owners job is to engage with clientele, but that includes all customers. Honestly we should have just left without the food, but after years of being loyal customers (and the fact that we were very hungry) we stayed to get what we ordered. On top of everything else, after we finally got the food (almost an hour after the order was called in) we found out they charged us extra for lettuce on nachos when we had asked for the lettuce to be removed. Why charge a fee to remove an item from a meal??? After over 10 years I can say this will be my last meal at Alebrije - thankfully the owner didn't seem to want our business anyways so I'm sure we will not be missed. read more
