Seriously, this is THE best Mexican restaurant in Berks County, even including the other Alebrije stores. Their fajitas are delicious and so is their queso cheese dip. My husband and I frequent this establishment regularly and we have never had a bad meal here! read more

My daughter and I had lunch at Alebrije not long ago, and the service was absolutely horrible. There were two other seated tables in the restaurant, and at least two servers on duty, yet our server couldn't find the time to bring us drink refills. When she took my card for our bill, another patron caught her attention and asked her for something, and she set my credit card down a table and left it there unattended!! What in the world is wrong with the servers at this restaurant? You don't set a customer's credit card down on a table so anyone could waltz on by and steal it! Too bad too, the food is very good, but those servers have got to go. read more

I eat often here and am usually pleased, however, last night I ordered Enchiladas Verdes and was disappointed. There was no more then one tablespoon of green sauce on the enchiladas, in fact, it looked as if they had put a good amount of the sauce on but then scraped it all off for some reason. The lack of sauce made the enchiladas a bit dry and bland and the rubbery corn tortillas on the enchiladas made the dish difficult to eat. There were refried beans on the plate which were almost inedible if not unrecognizable as they were cooked to a mush and had a texture to match. These are small issues if encountered singularly but the combination of poor presentation and marginal quality of the entree were enough to warrant this review. The salsa, as usual, was amazing but the next time I crave Mexican food I will probably be inclined to try a different restaurant. P.S. The cashiers/hostesses on duty last night need a refresher course on customer service as one of them rolled her eyes at the customer in line ahead of me when he complained about having to wait so long to pay the check and they both were more interested in talking to each other than paying attention to the needs of the few customers that were there. read more

Consistent high quality, delicious and authentic (hey, I lived in San Antonio for four years, so I know, ha!). My family loves coming to Alebrije. We moved to Exeter Township in 2003 and were thrilled to find a true Tex-Mex restaurant so close by. We have watched as they grew to three restaurants as well as completely makeover this location on Perkiomen Avenue on both the inside and outside. Friendly servers will seat you, and then after your orders are placed, they bring out your drinks and their homemade salsa and chips to enjoy while you wait for your meal. My husband and one son love the Fajitas Alebrije (just the fragrance makes my mouth water), for me it's Chicken Enchiladas Verde, while my daughters and other son prefer to sample something new each time - last time there they raved over the Pollo Ranchero, Chicken Chimichanga and Salmon Tacos. Portions are generous, so think twice before ordering an appetizer. My husband and I recently ordered the shrimp tacos appetizer which was outstanding, but easily enough for two people...as a meal! We only ate a few and took home the rest, but we were already pretty full when our entrees came. Lesson learned. Of course, we still had room for the flan. I'm resigned to the fact that I can't leave without having their flan. I just can't. read more

I crave their chicken chimichanga dripping in their signature queso sauce! Margaritas are good, I like a little less sour mix then they use - but my friend had a strawberry mojito and it was really great! Fresh guacamole, too - huge fan! Service is pretty slow, so don't go if you're in a hurry. Perfect place to hang out and catch up with your bff! read more

Only 2 stars because of the waitress we had. She was extremely rude! I asked for guacamole live and she made a frowny face to me. I asked oh no what's the matter, she said " I will have to make that" in a horrrible tone. I asked if that was a problem, she replied " I guess not". Seriously?!?! I was very upset. I believe this is part of your job as a waitress in a RESTAURANT to make and serve items on the menu. The rest of the meal she was short and snippy. It was obvious she doesn't like her job. She is bad for business for I will not be returning. That's unfortunate because the food was pretty good but when you are served with attitude it's not worth the return. read more

Coming from a girl who was raised on Mexican food all her life in Southern California. I was extremely disappointed in the food served at Alebrije Mexican Restaurant. It was in no way authentic & I can only believe that people rave about this place because they know no better. Their ground beef is bland & runny & their cheese is an overly processed cheese food product. The meal was inedible & I left over half of it on my plate. It's sad when you drop $50 at a restaurant, realizing you could have spent $20 or less at Taco Bell & you still would have received a better meal. I'll continue to make my own Mexican food at home, until I get the courage enough to try another "authentic" local place, at least I know what I am doing. read more

We were seated fairly quickly. Our drinks took awhile to arrive (yes even the water), and our waitress didn't know what was on special for happy hour. The shrimp fajita was alright, but definitely lacked flavor. The chimichanga was laughably small for the price. We decided to get some chocolate cake for dessert which was extremely dry and flavorless for a whopping $7. I expected more out of this restaurant- the next time I'm craving Mexican I will probably just go to On the Border... costs less, bigger portions, and better flavor. read more

The food is great. Nancy is by far the best server there!! She is very attentive and always makes you feel welcomed.

First, LOVE the recent remodel. The place looks outstanding - cheerful and modern. Food is authentically Mexican and very good. Favorites are the Chicken Chimichanga (amazing!) and the Shrimp a la Diabla. Tortilla chips are warm & homemade, and our teenage son is a huge fan of their refried beans (whaat??) The main thing that keeps us from coming here regularly is the extra-slow service. Not so many smiles, often empty glasses, and sometimes we sit so long we wonder if our order got placed (or sometimes whether anyone will be coming to take our order in the first place). We really do enjoy the food but something's broken in the service department.... I've suggested Alebrije to Hubs on dinner-out nights bcs he'd typically prefer to stay close to home in Exeter but he usually declines bcs it's a commitment of a few hours till all is said and done. And that's saying something bcs their prices are really reasonable, but even frugality isnt enough to "sway the vote." To be fair, it's been 3 or 4 months since we've been there, and last time they were understaffed and looking to hire. Maybe this has already been addressed so that the service matches the atmosphere and menu? read more

Wow. Either today was a bad day or they are going downhill. We have eaten at this restaurant for 20 years. WE used to live up the road, but moved in the last 5 years. We come back maybe once a year now. Today, my husband was ordering for us so that I did not have to wait because it is my birthday. Unfortunately he called 27 times and no one answered. The lady at the counter when I got there mumbled something about the phones not working. However, while I was standing there with her the phone rang and she answered it. I don't know what was going on, but I ordered the meal and during my order, she went to wait on a table, answered the phone and took another order. She has also been around for the 20 years we have been there and I was really surprised by this service. I don't think there was any other waitress. We got home a half hour away and they forgot some of our items. The still good thing is that they are fast. Even though it was a wait I did not want to do on my birthday. read more

Was certainly our favorite for several years but has gone downhill over the last couple of years. We ate most often at the Perkiomen Ave. location; and, even after having a couple of unsatisfactory visits, we tried to stay loyal and tried their Fifth Street Highway location. We were very dissatisfied with our last visit and when I got home I tried to send them an email just to let them know our unsatisfactory visits; but, their website conveniently doesn't allow you to neither comment nor send an email. Tonight we ate at the new Plaza Azteca near the Bershire Mall. There is no comparison!! Azteca puts Alebrije to shame!! read more

Garbage!! Pure garbage. I ordered coconut shrimp as an appetizer. They brought out pre-made frozen shrimp. The shrimp was no bigger than a dime. Plus it was over-cooked. At a price of more than $10, I expected more. But the real disappointment came when my fish tacos arrived. I dissected one of them and found less than a tablespoon of "fish", not the red snapper I ordered. This was smothered in some type of sauce and lettuce, but the HUGE flour tortilla the taco was wrapped in, totally killed any flavor. My son ordered chicken quasadillas. Again they skimped on the meat. He found 2 pieces of chicken on one of them. Overall, a huge disappointment. I will not go back. Taco Bell food is better than this dog food. read more
