    Raul Loya--the "owner" of Model Tailors--is a scammer and a fraud. I went to him to get custom…read moreoutfits made for my band. Before I get into how this went, I want to give some history on Model Tailors. Model Tailors started as a very reputable business--close to a hundred years ago. They have been in Dallas forever. Forty years ago, my mother used to ride horses and got her riding outfits custom made here. The outfits were of excellent quality and she was always happy with them. When I told her I was interested in getting a custom outfit for my band, she recommended Model Tailors. We didn't think twice. Now let's come back to the present. The former owner/representatives of Model Tailors were Mr. Serconi (not sure if I spelt correct) and Dominica; however, when we called about getting these outfits made, we got Raul Loya. Raul set up a time for me to meet him at the Double Tree Hotel off of Central and Caruth Haven--a very interesting choice--why not the business's location? He told me he was working with another client at the hotel and took my measurements there. Eventually, he told me the amount for the custom outfits and it was agreed upon. Keep in mind, I am trusting this man because of the positive relationship my mother had in the past getting her outfits done here. This happened October 2022. For the next three months, there was practically radio silence from Raul. Anytime I did call, Raul always assured me the outfit would be ready in about 2 weeks. This went on for the next three months. In January, I disputed the charge against Model Tailors on my credit card. Raul provided my paid invoice as "proof" in the dispute; however, he never provided any tracking of the good, which ultimately led to the dispute being ruled in my favor. Of course, he never completed my order for the outfits and I never tried them on because they were never made. Let's go into Raul Loya's background. Raul is a former attorney that received his degree from SMU Law School in 1994. In 2013 he had a fully probated suspension of his license, in 2014 a full suspension and multiple other disciplinary actions taken against him through the years leading up to 2016 where he resigned in order to avoid disbarment. These disciplinary actions were taken against him by the court of Texas due to his dishonest conduct. I believe this dishonestly has carried over into his "work" at Model Tailors. The reason he does not operate from a main location is for him to be able to successfully extort people. I had looked into opening a civil case against him if my dispute did not go through; however, the interesting fact is Raul Loya has no set in stone address. The current Model Tailors location as listed on the internet is vacant. I also used a website which tracks a person's previous addresses, and there was no consistent location provided with the name Raul Loya. I believe Raul does this to avoid any legal action being performed against him because in order for someone to be brought to court they must be served papers at their address. Ultimately, the dispute went in my favor and my money was returned to me, but dealing with all of this was unpleasant. Model Tailors has been taken over by a disreputable lawyer who is using it's prior reputation to run scams against unsuspecting people. I strongly encourage you to stay away.

    Unfortunately, I did not read the several other terrible reviews for this tailor and chose her…read moresimply based on convenience, since she is relatively close to my home. That was my mistake. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was already bad. The greeting was rude and unwelcoming. It was not a warm "hi, how are you, how can I help you." It was very cold and dismissive, like she did not care to have a customer in her shop. I brought in my graduation dress and explained what I needed. She immediately seemed hesitant and kept mentioning how much work it was and how many other things she had to do. I actually started to wrap my dress back up to take it elsewhere because she clearly did not seem confident. Instead of letting me go, she insisted she could do it. She said things like "I guess I can do it" and "it's a big job," but still proceeded to take it. I should have trusted my instinct and walked away right then. I tried on the dress, she measured everything, pinned it, and walked through the alterations with me like she understood exactly what needed to be done. I then paid the full amount upfront, plus extra, because she made it seem like it was such a big job. I did not pay a deposit. I paid in full. She told me she would call me when it was time to come back and try it on. Five days went by. No call. No update. Nothing. I finally called her myself to check on the progress, and that is when she casually told me, "I couldn't do it." No apology. No accountability. No sense of urgency. Just a shrug and excuses about having other customers and other weddings to work on. I reminded her that I was also a paying customer. I paid in full. At that point, I was not just an inquiry, I was your client. Her response was still dismissive, like it did not matter. My biggest issue is this: if you knew you could not do the dress, why did you not call me? This was a graduation dress needed by a specific date. Instead of communicating, she held onto my dress for days, did not complete any real work, and only told me she could not do it after I called her. On top of that, she had already started altering the jacket and left it with holes and pins, meaning I had to rush, leave work early, get my money back, and scramble to find another tailor with only a few days left before my deadline. That is unacceptable. There was no remorse, no professionalism, no accountability. Just constant shrugging and repeating "I couldn't do it." This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a business. After reading the other reviews, I realize this is a pattern. Rude service, poor communication, and taking on work she clearly cannot handle. Take caution. Do not bring your clothes here if you actually care about them or have a deadline. Do not waste your time, your money, or your peace of mind. This experience was stressful, frustrating, and completely avoidable had she simply been honest from the beginning. I will never return. Go somewhere else! Please!!
