Ultimately though we DID NOT have the same experience that our family member did, I guess because we were unhappy with their work product and we had to go back and attempt to take advantage of post-sale service. If you are concerned about your jewelry store standing behind their work, you really should go somewhere else. We went in to have a tension ring re-sized, which they claimed they could do. We paid over $1000 for the resizing, and within 3 months the stone JUST FELL OUT!! Luckily after an hour or so on our hands and knees we found the diamond. We took it back for them fix it, which they did, for another charge of several hundred dollars. Guess what, almost immediately the stone became loose again. I gave them one more chance and to their credit they did not charge for the 3rd try. But within weeks the stone actually FELL OUT again (see picture). I went back in again, frustrated as you can imagine but calm, and they said they would stand behind their work BUT their work WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE DIAMOND EVEN IF their work caused the stone to fall out and lost forever! What kind of comfort is that? Are they afraid of their own work product resulting in lost stones apparently? But I digress, Gem now claims that the ring style is the real issue, not their work! They say that tension settings are an inherently unreliable mount. Really? I don't think so because my wife had this same tension ring for over 10 years and experienced absolutely no problems at all. I kept telling them but to no avail, it's not their fault. In the end, I simple asked for my money back because they didn't do what we paid them to do! But, you guessed it, they would not accommodate at all, and had the audacity to tell me to go somewhere else and still kept my money So that is my recommendation to you, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! There are dozens of reputable jewelry dealers in the Dallas area that can sell a ring, but only the better establishments stand behind their work, and Gem is NOT one of those retailers.

Toward the end of the appointment, they had me step away so they could discuss pricing with my fiancé privately. That's when they told him he needed to put down money "in good faith" before they'd even create the CAD drawing--but they wouldn't clearly tell him how much or explain why. When the first CAD finally came back, it looked nothing like what my fiancé had asked for. Instead of admitting the mistake, they insisted his notes were wrong and theirs were right. Then, when he asked them to fix it, they wanted even more money before creating another CAD. It only got worse from there. They had told him the ring would be ready in time for the week he planned to propose, but by then they hadn't even sent the corrected CAD. He was trying so hard to keep everything a surprise, but eventually he had to ask me to look at the designs to make sure he wasn't crazy. Turns out he was right the whole time. By that point, he'd also gone about three weeks without hearing anything from Mark, so he decided to cut his losses and ask my dad for the name of his family jeweler instead. Then came the part that really crossed the line. After deciding not to move forward, Mariloff wouldn't leave him alone. They repeatedly called and texted him, and after he blocked them, they actually started messaging him on LinkedIn. The cherry on top? The family jeweler quoted him less than half of what Mariloff wanted for the exact same ring. These people are absolute scammers. No other word for it.

In my opinion, you were condescending, inappropriate, rude, and acted in a truly despicable manner. For the record, I explained to you that I bought the ring for my late wife as a 10th wedding anniversary gift almost 30 years ago and that it has been sitting in my safety deposit box since she passed but my daughter is now of age and wants to wear the ring. Hence the need for the insurance appraisal. I further explained that the diamond was purchased from McGivern Diamonds but set by Jared Jewelers. I explained that I lost the original GIA Certificate and although GIA will not issue a new certificate they will provide a letter detailing the information on the certificate at a cost of $30. At the meeting, I provided you with the original letter from GIA and attached was the receipt for the $30 fee. Although all of this was true and easily verifiable with McGivern Diamonds and GIA, you made numerous inappropriate statements as if I were a common thief. This included ridiculous comments about how you were surprised that the measurements on the GIA letter matched the actual diamond. Worse, when you asked for what I originally paid for the ring you offered to buy it for $11,000. You obviously did not believe that it was for my daughter from her late mother. You thought I was a thief and would jump at an offer to pawn the ring. To add some additional insult, I was told that the appraisal would be provided immediately. But when I paid you with a check you said the appraisal would be emailed to me in 2 days. I guess you needed to make sure the diamond thief's check would clear before providing the appraisal. Unfortunately, I doubt I am the only one you treat so poorly. Perhaps I am just the first one who is calling you out for your truly horrendous behavior. You were very unprofessional and should be ashamed. I do NOT recommend ANYONE use the services of Jarvis Gems & Jewelry Appraisals. The above describes my experience and is my opinion!!!

His peers in his field all said Steve was the one who could do what no others would be able to. It was a time-sensitive, and highly emotional task I threw at him and he took it personally. On a human level- not transactional. He would not take the first answer that seemed pretty clear which he could have easily taken. He spent ample time with me, exhausted every method he had been trained to rule out any alternative possibilities and brought peace back to my heart. He could have charged me the sun and the moon but he was more than fair in price and far above and beyond in service, empathy, integrity, and overall professionalism.
