So fresh. I knew at this bite that I was already curious to order something else. The Calentao El Ranchito is a brunch dish that's their version of a breakfast skillet. Has creamy rice and beans, fried egg, Hogao, crispy chorizo, arepa, cheese, yum! The Bandeja Paisa was on point. The sancocho was mouth watering and at a perfect temperature. If you're Colombian, especially from Medellín, you probably remember this: driving out of the city toward la finca with the whole family and stopping at El Rancherito for lunch. Parents, kids, grandparents, cousins--everybody at the table. That was part of the experience. El Rancherito was supposed to feel casual, familiar, generous and affordable. A place for the whole family. Unfortunately, I don't feel that spirit at this Miami location. Try bringing a family of six here for a regular weekend meal and see what happens. By the time everybody orders food and drinks and you add the tip, you're easily looking at $450 or more. That's not exactly the "let's stop at El Rancherito with the whole family" experience I remember from Colombia. And that's what disappoints me the most. It's not necessarily that the food is bad. I've actually been here three or four times with family and friends. It's that, to me, this feels like El Rancherito in name more than El Rancherito in spirit. The original experience in Colombia wasn't supposed to feel like some expensive special-occasion restaurant. It was about jumping in the car with the family, stopping for some good Colombian food, everybody eating well, and continuing your Sunday without feeling like you just financed the meal. Here, that feeling is gone. Maybe that's the reality of operating a restaurant in Miami, and I understand we're not paying Colombian prices in the United States. But there's a difference between adjusting prices for the American market and losing what made the place special in the first place. I've given this location several chances, but every time I leave thinking the same thing: I recognize the name, I recognize the food, but I don't recognize the Rancherito I remember from Colombia. One of my favorite things is the decor of the place as it takes you to Colombia, you feel you are there! First time at Alegría. Initially turned off by the pricing $26 for a bandeja paisa at lunchtime. But, the place had a great atmosphere, very clean, and impeccable service. Had the lentil soup instead,which was DELICIOUS, accompanied by rice, egg, a plantain and avocado. Manager was kind to treat us to patacón (fried plantain) with meat, sour cream and salsa-yummy. I love Alegría, we got empanadas , ceviche chicharrón, bandejas paisas and arroz con leche and maracuyá juices. All delicious and good service. The restaurant is very pretty, music, decor and ambience on point, my only complaint was that the entrees came before we even finished the appetizers. Came on Monday around 2 PM and the place was fairly crowded, the first thing I noticed was the loud music and it's not good. I can't even talk to others so I have to shout as if I was in a nightclub, I understand the theme and the nature of the business but this is a lunch crowd who comes to relax and sometimes work on their lunch break , the food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. We were looking for another restaurant, and saw this one so we decided to give it a try. We did not have a reservation( recommend it), but we were able to get a table. The food was very tasty. We had an appetizer which was tostones and different toppings. All delicious. For dinner we had the parrillada. We barely put a dent in it, there was so much food. Again, delicious! Live music started a little after 9 and the place was very lively. At the beginning the staff was very attentive, but at the end it was hard to get their attention. We were going to order dessert, but ended up just asking for the check. I don't fault the wait staff on this since they never seemed to stop! I think they need to hire more people. Came for a birthday party and it was such a good choice for the birthday girl! It was a group of about 25 people and they really made her night special. The staff were extremely attentive to all of the guests. Let's not forget the food which was out of this world! I had the ajiaco (so good I forgot to take a picture). You can tell they spent a lot of money on decor. I ordered the bandeja paisa and it was delicious. The waitress was very attentive and nice. to say I am disappointed is an understatement. Besides the decor and the empanadas, nothing else was worth it. I felt like the money spent here was throwing money in the trash. El pescado encocado$36 was horrible, it was very insipid no flavor what so ever, the coconut cream sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can. This is not a good representation of arroz con coco colombiano. When making a reservation I confirmed if they had live entertainment for mother's day weekend and I was told yes & that it started at 7. We left at 9 and there was no live entertainment at all. The singer came on stage once to say hi and disappeared. I wanted to support a new colombian business, but I will not return and I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

The waitress was incredibly rude and uncaring, it took about 20 minutes and multiple times asking to finally get water to the table. The grilled chicken was tough and the egg for the bandeja paisa was DRYYYYY. The juices are advertised as all natural, their coconut lemonade tastes like canned coconut - not natural. Algeria is the cutest Colombian restaurant I've been to in Doral. My family of 25 went celebrated my sister's 40th birthday and it was everyone's first time there, EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. The restaurant itself isn't that big so it gave the impression that it was just us there. They have live music and a space to dance, which made the night more fun. For the food, they offer typical Colombian dishes and picadas. I had a fried red snapper with rice and beans and it was delicious. I went there with a friend for lunch on January 24 during their soft opening. The servers were very nice and attentive. The decor and ambiance were phenomenal. However, they didn't have the fish that my friend wanted. They brought us the wrong appetizer--we had ordered a "pataconada" and they brought us a "trio de patacones," the waitress just said "this is what the kitchen gave us" and changed the price accordingly. I really wanted what I had ordered but I did not argue as I know that they were just launching this business. Then the entree comes out. I ordered the "posta cartagenera" which had a good taste but the meat was kind of dry. Maybe it's supposed to be that way? I've never had it before. And it came with three patacones. I asked our waitress if you knew that this came with patacones maybe you should have warned me so that I could have chosen a different entree. Yes, the description of the entree does say it comes with a patacon but I did not pay attention, especially when we have to look at the menu via our phones. That's why as the representative of that restaurant she should care about what her customers order, especially when the business is trying to come off as a high-end type of restaurant. I did give her this advice, but she used the excuse that she didn't know what the entree came with. My friend ordered the "punta de anca" and that was delicious and grilled just right. The "arroz con coco" was delicious as well. For dessert we ordered "torta de almojábana" and it was good and different. So all in all, I would recommend this restaurant but pay attention to what you order. Ask questions. Their prices are higher than most other Colombian restaurants but they are trying to be more creative which is good. And as I said the place is beautiful and well thought out. One piece of advice--don't wear shorts or mini skirts because it will hurt your thighs to sit on those seats. read more
