The problem is not our pilot or gas, it's the solenoid gas valve part that Chimney.com installed. (A master plumber has identified the issue 100%, but doesn't do gas repairs.) Since the whole device is controlled by remote, we know we did not break it--we never touched it ever, but the like-new fireplace did not come on this year. We were charged full price for the unit, which should have lasted for many years. Now Chimney.com is now wanting another $300 just two years later to repair. Paid a lot for a new unit. Chimney.com they says they are not responsible for quality of their products and will charge for labour to "evaluate" the issue. They act very folksy/ocal--until there's a problem, then they cut you loose. Be forewarned that you need to be lucky because they don't stand by their products sold. This feels scammy.

A Christmas Miracle Our gas fireplace wouldn't start this…read moreseason, and living in New Hampshire, it's been nearly impossible to get a fireplace technician out. After sending photos and doing some phone troubleshooting, we were told we needed a part--and that we'd be lucky if it was fixed before Christmas. Then came a video call with Jason from the DMV area, from ABDB Home Services, who patiently walked us through the process. As it turned out, all it needed was a simple cleaning of a clogged duct--something we could do ourselves. And just like that, it works! I put a bid on Home Depot (rookie mistake) and had 2 contractors say I needed a cap that could be installed for $900. That didn't seem thorough so I called evolution chimney. They had a young man and his partner came out and they went in the basement and to the roof and told me all the work I needed done. They had to add a new and wide liner, fix the deteriorating staccato, ensured that there was no chance of carbon monoxide and of course the cap. It was well worth the investment. The first appointment I had there was a scheduling mishap so the woman that took my call offered to deploy an emergency weekend team but I opted to reschedule for the next week. The work was done in a few hours. I was worried about squirrels still getting into the attic so I put a metal trap up there but nothing has been in the attic since and no water seems to be coming through the wall. Highly recommend.

When the work was completed the tech had written up an invoice, but I did not see the invoice. He said "That will be $249.00" I gave him my bank card and he processed it. Then he handed me the invoice and I put it on my table. I did not look at the invoice, I thought that I was only charged $249.00 since that is what he had said prior to taking my card. Later that day I looked at the invoice. I had been charged $478.00. I have used electricians, plumbers, and pool companies in the past and every company that I have used has always applied the fee to towards the work that would be done. I read the fine print on the invoice then I went their website to see if it was stated there.
