This is the first rest area shortly after entering the New Jersey Turnpike heading southbound after leaving New York City and the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. My visit here was on October 5, 2019. After some issues debarking the cruise due to technical issues, we got to our driver to get us back to southern New Jersey where we would be staying for a few days before going home. All of us needed to use the restroom, so we stopped at this rest stop. This was a typical rest stop, but not like others I have seen in New Jersey along the turnpike. This rest area had a convenience store and gas. Many of the others have more options than a convenience store, such as fast food restaurants and the such. The good thing is that we weren't looking for any food items, just the restroom. The restrooms here were clean and maintained, which you don't always find at rest areas. The inside was your typical convenience store, but a bit larger. There's lots of snack and drink items here if you are looking for that kind of stuff. There is a Sunoco gas station at this rest area as well if you need gas. Gas was not needed at this time, so there was no stop there. Overall, this was just a rest stop. If you need to get some gas, use the restroom, or just get a few snack type items, this would be a place to stop. Further down, it seemed quite a few of their rest areas were closed for renovations. Although there was nothing to wow me about this place, it did get the job done and back on the road to my destination. read more

Came in here briefly on the way home from NYC. We didn't stay to buy snacks or food, it was strictly a potty break. What made me decide to rate them was the bathrooms. For a rest stop, the restrooms were impressively clean and most importantly smelled great! It definitely exceeded my expectations. They seem to have a really good/big selection of snacks, and the parking lot has many spaces available. read more

To answer the question as to why is there a page for a rest stop, it's a business, most businesses deserve the equal right to be reviewed. If you are like me, I prefer to know if it's worth stopping at this rest stop. A review let's me know if this place will be clean, will it be busy, will the employees be helpful, the list could continue to go on. I stopped here after sitting in traffic for a bit and crossing a bridge. I needed to calm myself and use the facilities. Walking in I found this place to be clean, well lit and busy with people. The bathrooms were quite clean for as frequently they are used. I did not purchase anything at any of the food places and I had no need to grab a drink. So I made my way back out to my car. The one thing that did puzzle me about this place is why was there a cat hanging out outside here. How? read more

Just reopened about a month ago. Honestly it was better before the renovations. Gone are the chain places that used to be here. Such as Roy Rogers and a Nathan's hot dog stand that was here previously. Now it's just a large convenience store in the middle and Starbucks on the left hand side as you walk in. Seems like the parking area is larger than before. You can go around back if you need to. Couldn't do that beforehand. Easier access to the restrooms that way. Look I understand that they upgraded the pumps at the gas station and added some more. But... Not many options at this Rest Area except junk food or a caffeine fix. They currently have only a few tables inside as you walk in. Just a place to gas up and head down the Jersey Shore. This is definitely not an improvement from the old place that was here. read more

These Roy Rogers fries are well seasoned with their own special signature spices. The fries are crunchy, hot and very addictive. They serve as fantastic company on a road trip, they're not too messy and they'll keep your passengers happily busy! In keeping with Roy Roger's cowboy theme, the fries come in sleeves that they call 'holsters.' In the past, the sleeveS had two loops so you could hang your fries from your belt. Holy hell. Is this where people go to die ? Actually, I think this rest stop was inspiration for the DMV sloth scene in Zootopia. Ok, who loves a rest stop anyway right ? I really don't mind them. Some are beautiful! Ample eateries and actual information about what's ahead or surrounding wherever you are on whatever road your on....but this one ? This one welcomes you with the amazing aroma of vomit and dirty bathroom. Options for eating & drinking are a convenience store, Roy Rogers, Starbucks a menu-less Nathan's. We had no other option but to ingest something because we were on the road and starving, and ordering a simple "roast beef with cheese" or "chicken sandwich" proved to be a complicated task for the staff of Mr. Rogers. Two gross sandwiches, a curly fry and one bottle of water ($23) later , we were regretful. Starbucks was at least halfway decent. read more

Alexander Hamilton Rest Stop, named after one of our founding fathers, the first Secretary of the Treasury, a member of the Federalist Party, and the leader of the Annapolis Convention that led to the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention, is located five miles away from New York - New Jersey border called "Lincoln Tunnel," which is named after the 16th President Abraham Lincoln, who dedicated his entire life to owning the Southern Democrats and the Confederates. If you are visiting this place, the chances are that you've just spent 175 minutes waiting for your turn for the privilege of using the tunnel on W 30th Street and 9th Ave. As you drive through the tunnel towards Weehawken, many people, myself included, will think "oh no - perhaps I should not have ordered that extra large iced coffee at Dunkin Donuts." As you exit the tunnel many people will desperately look for a restroom to no avail. Driving on US 495 will remind you of Psalm 23:4 - even though I walk through the valley of shadow of death..." and you probably would have given up any chance of using the restroom until Edison, New Jersey. As you reach your fifth stage of grief - acceptance - this Rest Stop will appear out of nowhere. It's the oasis for tired travelers who have just traveled four hours traveling five miles from NYC. As I was driving into this rest stop, I imagined myself being a tired immigrant in the 1800s. While the place looks like any other service station / rest stop - I swear I saw the Statue of Liberty as I walked in: "Give me your tired, you poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." read more

Very rarely do I leave a bad review because I know it can be harmful to a place but I figure this is a rest stop and it was really gross. The bathroom was FIlTHY. Ladies room five stalls had no toilet paper at all. The rest of them had urine on them. I had to wipe it off and clean it before I sat. The sinks were also dirty and the soap was all watered so i didn't get my hands clean. You'd think I would be smart enough to stay away from the food. I got a piece of pizza and it was mostly dough. My dad got food too and they gave him the wrong sandwich and it took forever. I saw some good reviews so I was wondering if maybe we got them on a bad day. I will probabaly stop on my way home and check it out again. If not no big deal I'll just drive twenty miles more to the next one. read more

The rest stop is pretty big with clean facilities. Full service gas stations with friendly staff. Limited food and beverage offerings.

I used to love the chicken they sold here but then they renovated it and next thing I know the chicken is gone still they left their Starbucks and I was happy at least for that. But the Starbucks is supposed to be 24 hours , I went today and their closed with staff in there so that's extremely disappointing. If it says 24 hours please be 24 hours. Update : this place is always closed when it's supposed to be 24 ! I'm probably not coming again. read more

Not really sure how you rate a rest stop .... but for what its worth, this is the first rest stop you are going to hit after you enter New Jersey from the Lincoln Tunnel. They have gasoline, food, drinks, candy, bathrooms .... etc.... What else do want? Alexander Hamilton would be proud to have a rest stop named after him. This is definitely my favorite rest stop. They have so many tasty food options- Roy Rogers and Nathan's and they even gave a Starbucks, which is so necessary for fueling up for the long drive home. The line for food works like a cafeteria line, when getting food. You grab a tray and order from whatever restaurant you want as you work your way down, paying at the singular cashier. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was very good. They also have a little convenience store inside-and-wait for it- MASSAGE CHAIRS. My friends and I spent far too long feeding our dollar bills into these heavenly chairs. read more

Absolutely insulting how bad this place is. Just reopened a few months ago. Only food available is your typical chips and candy, cold drinks prepackaged food that looks terrible and under cooked hotdogs. I used too stop hear a few nights a week and would have the choice of Roy Rodgers, Nathan's hotdogs, KFC and Starbucks along with the usual items in the gas station store. Now it is a crapshoot to get a regular cup of coffee. I had to ask the staff on more then one occasion to make coffee. The staff seems so utterly confused and not managed at all. Lines will build up with minimal amount of customers. If you are hungry and have enough gas.. head to the next stop south or north. Otherwise... enjoy your microwaved burrito or the breakfast sandwich that has been sitting under a light for hours... read more

I hate the Vince lombardi rest area because it's super crowded and - let's face it - kinda gross. So, when I'm headed southbound and I need an overpriced soda or a pee break, I take the eastern spur of the turnpike and avoid the crowds by coming to this service plaza instead. It's always mostly empty and the parking lot is delightfully civilized (a good place for your dog to pee also). Also, there is rarely a line for cheap full service gas - an added bonus! However - don't expect better food here - it is overpriced service plaza fare. read more

We had to get our once-a-decade Roy Rogers fix, so we traveled the 20 minutes to the Roy's at Alexander Hamilton Rest Stop, NJTP. We went at 9:00 PM. The staff was extraordinarily accommodating ... made fresh fries and sandwiches for us, offered to carry our trays, suggesting a less expensive chicken meal instead of ordering separate pieces, etc. Then the woman cleaning the dining area ran over to an older couple and insisted on carrying their trays of food, getting condiments for them, etc. If the management of this place is reading this, please give these RRs employees a well-deserved pay increase! BTW, the food tasted fresh and yummy, too! read more

Convenient to get to from New York City. Good location for a quick bite and rest stop. The bathrooms are large and relatively clean. Though it's relatively small the food choices are pretty good and I was able to have healthy food. read more

Walked in at 4:30am to find the entire Roy Rogers staff on break for another 10 minutes. Didn't have time to wait. So I walked away.

I have been frequenting this rest stop for its Roy Rogers restaurant for years now. I stop in at least three times a year. I am pleased to report to all of you that with each visit this year the place has become a gem on the Turnpike. The staff was pleasant shown by their smiles, being polite, attention to detail and preparing hot and delicious Roy Rogers quality food plus the dining room was immaculate! I was so pleased that after having my meal I mentioned the observed improvement across the board to the manager and his supervisor. I added how this rest stop is going to make a positive impression to all who are traveling out of state on interstate 95 south. The look on their faces was priceless. They were filled with pride and they thanked me for taking the time to stop by and letting them know what a great job they were doing. So, stop here the next time you need a rest and a good hot meal. read more
