I have not been here in a very long time. I came in yesterday Sunday for a meal right before the Super Bowl game and I walk in and see the restaurant completely remodeled and it looked great. I was seated right away to the right hand side. My date and I noticed that they had cocktails we ordered a Blood Mary and a Mimosa and that BM was great. We didn't get any apps just one breakfast meal and fish tacos. The server was great she got our orders right with some mods we made and she always checked in on us (Sorry don't recall her name, tall blonde female) The food came out looking AMAZING. My date's French toast was great and my fish tacos were spot on, saved one for later. I will for sure come back and am looking forward to the shrimp taco. read more

Went this morning for breakfast. I had the huevos rancheros with the chicken chorizo. It was the best huevos I've ever had. A little heat and great flavor. Service was great. Paid attention but didn't bug us too much. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is three coffee was not good. read more

Great service, great food. We stopped by when we were in the area. My wife ordered chicken fried steak and pancakes and I ordered the chicken fried chicken with biscuits. Everything was delicious!!! We ordered dessert too!! My apple pie was delicious and my wife ordered Chocolate cream pie which she says was just okay....so I may have just given this restaurant 4 stars except for seeing a very caring owner. A young man (teen?) at a table near us (sorry didn't see all of this) but I believe he was choking as we heard a lot of commotion and an adult female at the table got up to help him but then he was okay. The owner I believe an elderly gentleman came by a minute or so later to make sure that the young man was okay. Therefore, this place gets all five stars!!! read more

I've never been to this place before and the first time I went was with my friend back in February on our way back home from the Chicago Auto Show; she suggested that we go there for a late dinner. I ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip for my main course, since I wasn't too hungry, along with a side of strawberries and I loved the meal! The dip was just enough to fill me up ((just wish the pieced of Artichoke weren't so big)). Then, we went back a few weeks ago after going to the World of Wheels event in Rosemont, but this time I ordered the Turkey, Spinach and Artichoke Panini ((without the tomato and mayo)) and all I can say is that I plan to get this every time we go there for lunch or dinner! It was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and it's nice to see that there is a place that makes food with Artichoke in it, since it seems pretty rare to find restaurants that want to experiment with the vegetable. Can't wait to get back there and get myself another sandwich! read more

Went here for the first time last night. Love the decor and piano player, service was ok, ordered the filet medallions, presentation was good with crispy onions on top, but steak was just mediocre, no char, little flavor, disappointing. I think maybe soup and sandwich would be good. read more

I frequent this place for lunch a lot. I get the same thing all the time because it's fantastic. I always get the grilled fish tacos. Delicious grilled fish, black bean and corn salsa, chihuahua cheese (its a must for all Mexican food) and a cabbage tossed in a chipotle dressing, served with fresh limes and a side of salsa verde. One of the best tacos I've ever had. Today I tried the mac & cheese with carnitas. It was delicious. The sauce was perfectly creamy, not too thick. Felt as if it was freshly made and not sitting in some pan heating all day. Perfect blend of cheeses in the sauce. The meat was an added texture and flavor that just put it into another category of deliciousness. The combination was perfect. Very rich and filling, you could split it with someone. While I always liked Alexanders Cafe before the trendy name change, the changes they made with the remodel and menu updates are excellent. Their food is always great and the wait staff is always cordial and attentive. I love the roasted garlic and Feta cheese appetizer and have yet to find any entree that isn't top notch. If you haven't yet stopped there, I hope you will soon. It's a great restaurant for a Romantic date night or a family dinner. read more

I will never go here again. We went to get a bite & to spend some time with friends. There was nothing spectacular about the food and our server was crabby; she reminded us several times that we weren't her only table; she had one other that I could see and the place wasn't even that busy to begin with. We came to know this restaurant because of their good food. The last time we were here was last year and we really had a great time. Recently, the family decided to try it again. Our server was very sweet, polite and courteous. We were seated, ordered our drinks, appetizer and our orders. A few minutes later, we got our drinks and later the appetizers. AND HERE IS THE KICKER........ We waited for one and a half hours for 2 salads, pork chop and an egg omelet and guess what, we never even get to taste it.... it was never served!!! The customers who came about 30 minutes after us who were seated next to our table got their orders faster than we did, and interestingly, their orders were almost the same as ours. We finally left out of frustration. The manager of course apologize. This is not restaurant we once knew before. The food is good but somehow the management should check into customer service and make the necessary corrections. We are not happy campers. Will never set foot on this restaurant again. read more

We were on a long road trip across the US and we happened across this place. 2 weeks of eating out 3 times a day, and this place really stood out. The staff were very friendly and the interior was new and stylish. It's nice that they put mouthwash in the bathroom. (I mistakenly washed my hands with it as it kind of looked like soap.) We had tropical yoghurt and a side of french toast with cinnamon butter. Both were great, but the toast was historic. We are still talking about it a month later. read more

They remodeled a few years ago and we've been a big fan ever since. I don't know if they hired the cooks as well, but the food is great now. Always fresh, the wait staff are wayyy better than they were. I'd say about the best place in the area. We happened to be out in the Elgin area and we came by late morning. We were promptly greeted by a friendly host and were seated in a nice booth. The restaurant is one of the nices restaurants I have been in in a long time and very clean. The menu selection was wonderful and the food was a very high quality. The waitress Laurie was very polite and attentive. We will most certainly be back for one of there weekly special dinners and to try the Prime Rib ! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this place has something on the menu to please everyone, any time of the day! Have been here with large groups, which they are happy to accommodate. And they have booths or tables for 2, 4, or more. HUGE slices of pie and lots of tasty desserts. And Megan (our waitress almost every time we've been there) always wears a great big smile! Recently re-discovered this place. Went here years ago, before it was renovated. New style is very pleasant and modern. Very different feel than the old place. We have been back several times now and everything we have had has been great. Breakfasts are delicious and hearty portions. Had some tasty crepes with lingonberry sauce last visit. My husband had some potato pancakes to die for! They were absolutely the best I have ever had! Well done Alexander's! We will be back soon. read more

I hate to say that of a family restaurant, but I am afraid that someone may get sick. This place is on the operating table and needs a transplant to survive. It needs a massive remodel, inside and out...Menu, employees, etc.. Prices were decent, but at the expense of quality. Bland, cold, old food..How do you screw up scrambled eggs and toast? Lunch is even worse....Burnt everything. It had that "bathroom smell" like urinal blocks. Please bring some young blood in and save the place, Simple menu-simple prices..please. Met friends for the fish fry. Anxious for the re-opening. Nice remodel, but that is where it ended. Prices on the menu reflect the remodel for the customers to pay for. Very limited menu compared to their old one. French onion and clam chowder soups were just barely warm. Fish fry was so disappointing. Breading so dark it looked burnt, but didn't taste burnt, however, it was sooooo greasy. Baked potato was barely warm (butter never melted). Their was four of us and one asked for rice, not even available. Sorry to say we won't be back. The restaurant has the same owners, don't really know what happened. They had such a good thing going. Really are not fussy eaters, but not much on the dinner menu that we found we would eat. Bring back the old menu...it was such a disappointment. SAD. read more

We had reservations for 14 at 3-3;30 (after graduation) yesterday. Graduation finished at 1:15. I called and explained and asked if it could be changed to 2pm. We got there and had to wait about 15 min which was fine. Our waitress was great. Beverages were kept full. No mix ups in orders. Food was good. I even brought a cake from a bakery that the waitress offered to cut and serve In my book they went above and beyond. Food has always been good here. This was my first time trying the place out as my sister & I wanted something new. So glad we did. Walking in the ambience was very nice & clean. Our server Sidney was very friendly. She greeted us with a welcome smile & answered any questions we had about the dishes. My sister & I started off with 2 appetizers ; fried pickles & saganaki. It was very delicious. The saganaki comes with 6 pieces of pita bread tasted very fresh & warm. The fried pickles were crispy. We then ordered breakfast for our entrees. Country fried steak with gravy & eggs. I got my eggs with American cheese & my sister got hers with havarti cheese. The hash browns were cooked perfect crispy but yet soft not too done or undone. The steak was very big & crunchy. The pancakes had a cinnamon butter which was different but not overbearing. & the sausage patties where excellent. Compliments to the chef & a big thank you to Sidney for making our 1 visit pleasant. Kept checking on us in a timely matter, & went out of her way to make sure everything tasted good for us. We will definitely be back again to try something different! read more

This place has gone so downhill that it's not even worth the bother anymore. The last straw was making a reservation for Mother's Day and they proceeded to sit everyone else before us. Meanwhile, we sat and waiting for an hour to even be seated. When the food finally got to us 2 hours later, it wasn't worth the wait. Bland, tasteless, etc. I'm not even going to discuss the health hazards of dead plants in the window, dust and filth hanging from every corner of the ceiling over your food an all over the outdated fixtures and "decorations". I can't disagree enough with the bad reviews for the new Alexander's Cafe! Our first experience last evening was phenomenal! Yes, the prices are higher than before, but every dish that our party of three had was truly excellent. From the presentation to the taste, they have vastly improved upon the typical "everyday" restaurant that it was before. I suppose if you wanted the same type of restaurant as before, you would be disappointed, and we were a little dubious ourselves when we first sat down and saw, as other reviewers mentioned, a more limited menu and higher prices. But we were so impressed, we will now frequent this restaurant more than we had in the past. And while the prices are higher, comparing this to other restaurants that serve similarly-presented and prepared food, it is far less. Kudos to the owners and keep up the great work. read more

My family and I had been coming here since they opened in the 80's. Loved most things on the menu. Stopped in a couple months ago with my father. Looking forward to it but instead found a 'restaurant makeover'! This is a diner not a fine dining restaurant. The atmosphere is no longer comfortable. Gone are the plants and cute window painted decorations to celebrate the seasons and the menu has changed. My father was looking forward to the open faced turkey sandwich, gone now! We will never be back! The decor is cold and I'm not sure what they are trying to achieve sports bar or dance club but it's bad. Might has well throw in the towel now, I don't see this helping your business. Next time we're in the area we'll go up the road to Village Squire which was still nice last time I was there. They were at one time owned by the same people with very similar menu items except no breakfast. Oh no, I remember seeing them closed for several days for some type of renovation some time ago. Alexanders is always a safe bet. The menu is expansive- but not so large that the quality suffers. It's diner food with a modern spin. Today, I had the breakfast tacos. The carnitas was tasty and the portion size generous. Service was attentive but not overbearing. To go cups of coffee are a nice plus. If you want good food, good selection and reasonable prices - Alexanders can't be beat. read more

this place is frickin fantastic..just moved in the area an seen this place..so we figured what the hell lets try it..i'm glad we did the place is great from when we walked in to when we left.. we had there homemade meatloaf man it was fantastic..never had anything like it you can tell it was homemade..the hot fresh bread with the fantastic tasting soup is a memory made..our server evan i think his name was is 1 of a kind..it was kinda busy but he kept our pops and breads filled.. would i go back hell ya, matter of fact im thinking this weekend..it is a little pricey but you get what you pay for..u want cheap go to mickey d's..you want fantastic food an service stop here for it... read more
