An acquaintance kept recommending this place to us so we finally came but didn't see the big deal. I personally think they try too hard to be hip/modern but they still retain some elements of a common hometown restaurant so they end up being lost somewhere in the middle and...awkward. Something about this place just rubbed me the wrong way. The calamari was really weird and all the food in general was weird and not at all satisfying. The burger we ordered was made incorrectly and the waiter gave us a bit of attitude when we told him. It was as good as a burger from Denny's or Ihop. Dry. Grease. Just a mound of bland meat between buns. Nothing was good. But everything was super greasy. I probably could've just let this pass if the bill wasn't so high for such a mediocre meal. read more

I've been going here with my family for the past 15 years. THE BEST RESTAURANT IN TOWN. People are always so friendly. Jackie (think thats her name) is the best waitress there. Ever since it has been remodeled, I have probably gone there a million times and she has been the only one to offer me bread when were there, giving us more detail into their food and even offering us the other breakfast menu when it is not breakfast time and asking the chef if he could make what we want. She showed us how to keep our pancakes warm by putting other plates over them and even offered to make us fresh lemonades for the ride home. Then another time we went there, my friend didnt like her meal that she had and told the waitress and she took it off the bill like it was nothing. Just moved to the area a few months ago and my fiancé and I absolutely love it! We have been there for breakfast lunch and dinner. The place has a really awesome look to it and is very clean. We love the mason jars filled with pop. That's totally our thing. On some nights there's a person playing the piano live and singing and he is amazing! I was so excited to try this place but was let down. We went here for lunch with family. First off, they advertise their corned beef hash as "homemade" and coming from the east coast and somewhat of a hash connoisseur I know that this was far from homemade. It was the canned processed kind with maybe some additional seasoning or onions grilled with it. Would not order again. My mother ordered chicken Alfredo and wasn't very pleased with it, said it lacked flavor, just a milky pasta sauce with no garlic. The waiter and mgmt were super nice and offered to replace it but she already ate a little and didn't want to wait for another meal and hold up everyone else. However my niece ordered the Mac and cheese with shrimp and it was straight up the best Mac and cheese I may have ever had. My cousin's and dad's meal were also satisfactory. I have a feeling this place has things they do really well, and other things average. I would go back again and give it a second shot, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend. read more

Alexander's is a great place to grab brunch during the week and weekend. Their food is always in great quality. They have amazing specialty pancakes and waffles, the Foster Banana Pancakes or Very Berry Pancakes are must haves! I was looking forward to the new Alexander's Café. The old place was just that, old and tired. Although everything about it now is new, I'm not sure I like the new look. It looks unfinished. I love the more open floor plan and they made good choices in materials and neutral colors, but there is nothing to give it personality. It's a very nice generic update. The totally empty walls need some help. Adding some simple wall décor with some sparks of color or metallic accents would definitely help. The food experience started off with disappointment. The salad came with some brown pieces of lettuce which "stained" the flesh of the cucumber slices sitting on top. I sent it back and ordered the Greek soup instead. The waiter came back with the soup and said the "kitchen" stated, "The lettuce was not brown, they use rhubarb". If they are using rhubarb greens, they better stop as my research says that the greens have various levels of toxicity. Is fresh rhubarb even available in December? I know the difference between old brown lettuce and fresh lettuce. This was old brown lettuce. The fact that the cucumber flesh was "stained" proves the salad had been made a long time before it was served. How can a simple fresh salad be so hard to get right? And don't put the cup of dressing in the salad! That is so unsanitary! The roasted white fish with asparagus was ordered but broccoli was served instead. This was quickly fixed. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. The white fish had good flavor but was barely warm. Hot meals should be served hot! Service was good and attentive. I eat here about 8 times a year and always have a great experience. My favorite is the Greek salad with chicken skewers -- so much so that I have a hard time trying other items on the menu. As others have said, their coffee is excellent. Whether you're ordering breakfast, a burger, one of their specials or off the regular menu, the meal is always good. My husband and I have visited Alexander's Cafe twice, and both times our experience has been exceptional. The item's we've had (Cheeseburger, Fish Sandwich, and Country Fried Steak) were so phenomenal that we'd be willing to bet money that the rest of the menu is just as tasty. Not only is the food amazing, but the service we have received at this place is out of this world. We are current and retired service industry employees and put a very hefty weight on service when evaluating our restaurant experiences. Servers are always very friendly, and anticipate the guests' needs, without hovering over the table. This anticipation of need extends all the way to their restrooms, where they provide hand lotion, mouthwash, and YES, a trash can by the door to toss your "door handle" paper towel in. This is my absolute favorite place to eat for breakfast in this area. I see some of the bad reviews were from people that had lunch or dinner and I honestly can't comment on lunch or dinner menu items, but their breakfast menu items are amazing. I haven't had one thing on the breakfast menu that I didn't like. My favorite is their loaded potato pancakes. My husband had ordered the breakfast tacos once, which is not something I would normally order, but those were equally amazing. The interior layout of this place is very inviting and the place did a complete 360 since they had their "makeover". The only thing that has ever been an issue in the past was wait time for food, but I'm assuming it was due to an increase in clientele after their makeover, which seems to have improved some over the last year or so. Decent family owned restaurant with a local food distributor. This restaurant caters mostly to regulars and people staying at surrounding hotels that do not have transportation to go somewhere else to eat. I've eaten here several times since the renovation was completed & cannot believe I have not written a review yet. Shame on me, because everyone needs to know what a "Fabulous"restaurant, Alexander's is! The decor, the ambience, the "live" piano playing on the weekends, the amazing coffee, "intelligentsia" which I used to have to enjoy on my visits into Chicago, the fresh squeezed orange juice...the amenable waitstaff & managers ...then there's the menu. I can never decide because of the great selection. I look around & everyone's meals look SO "yummy"! I look around again, it's a Sunday morning, the restaurant is packed, people are talking, laughing, enjoying their meals & suddenly, I'm feeling nostalgic, I'm reminded of the big family gatherings we had every Sunday back in NY. and I smile. Stopped in for dinner prior to going to a local fest. I was seated promptly (even though my party had not yet arrived), which was nice. Our server, Liz, was excellent! She answered my menu questions confidently, and checked on us 'just enough'. I had the veggie pannini w/sweet potato fries...which were outstanding! My friend had the veggie burger (my 2nd choice) and she said it was wonderful. The new décor is very nice. The restroom was clean, and what a nice surprise to see the extra touches at the sink (i.e. hand lotion, mouthwash, cups). We'll be back! After all, I need to try that veggie burger! read more
