Finally had an opportunity to try lunch here since they only serve lunch on Friday Saturday and Sunday. Lunch on a Friday is a burger or salad bar menu only, but the burgers are a steak burger using fresh cuts of trimmed steak and was delicious! It was prepared in the kitchen rather than over the indoor charcoal grill but must have been cooked over a flame because it was nicely charred and smokey. All kinds of options as well. We had the open faced burger over Texas toast covered in cheese sauce tomatoes and jalapenos...fantastic. Ten bucks including fries, and a soft drink, beer, or wine. Added salad bar for $4.50 which is a bargain and the best in town. A perfect meal. read more

I've been here twice now, and the first visit was exceedingly better than the second. Our most recent was on Father's Day. We expected them to be busy so we were prepared for that. Our group all opted to have our food cooked for us rather than grilling it ourselves. I ordered the filet kabob, which was served with the vegetables and meat on separate skewers. That sort of defeats the purpose of a kabob, you know? The filet skewer was overdone; the vegetables were underdone. Our group was also informed at the time we ordered that they were out baked potatoes. And yet, as we sat there, we counted no fewer than 57 baked potatoes leaving the grill next to our seating area. I'm sure some of it was trying to budget the potatoes for the rest of the evening, but it was disappointing to essentially be lied to, particularly because we saw five potatoes waiting to be grilled as we were leaving (there were six of us in our group). Our server comped us dessert over the baked potato thing, but never explained what was going on. Our visit a year ago was much, much better than this one -- the food was better (we grilled our food ourselves on that visit) and it was a more positive experience. Bottom line: Don't go on Father's Day or any other big days where people will be out in droves. read more

I FINALLY got to try this place after many people raved about Alexander's. I came here with probably about 10-12 people for a goodbye dinner. I got the New York strip. I have to say the salad bar was decent but I wasn't incredibly impressed. The make your own toast experience was fun and mine turned out great! As for the steak itself, it was cooked perfectly. Atmosphere: The place is out of ways and the place is nearby the river. The place inside is brightly lit with the hissing sounds of meat reaching your ear as you walk to the front desk. I would say that the place looks okay, but I feel that it is a bit dingy? The salad bar looks nice but feels really disorganized as I looked at it. The noise level of the place does not seem overbearing and just a murmur in the background Food: The steaks are in cases and you are able to choose whatever steak that looks great to you. You could even ask the waiter to bring out a better selection for you if the ones in the fridge are not what you want. I opted to cook my own food and try to get the steak to be medium rare. The cooks are pretty friendly and willing to help you reach the temperature of steak you want. I had a blast cooking my own steak and so did my friends. Overall: It was fun to cook your steak by yourself over such a huge grill, but would like to say that there is not too much specialty here. Holy moly, this place blew me away. To clear up something right away - you have the option of cooking your own food. If you don't want to do this, you can still have them cook your steak. I ordered a 10 oz fillet with a baked potato. In addition to this, you get access to the salad bar as well as the opportunity to make butter toast on the grill. The salad bar was full of fresh veggies with a lot of variety as well as various cheeses, egg, and bacon. Towards the end you also had the option to get some fruit or things like pasta salad. The steak came out perfectly medium and was seasoned well and the baked potato was cooked well and large in size (exactly how I like my potatoes). For $35 I had an incredible meal with very prompt and attentive service. Ironic that my two favorite steak meals have now been in Peoria, IL and Toledo, OH. Who would have thought? read more

I've been to Alexander's a few times since moving to the area. I have definitely found what I like and don't like from here and what I do like is very tasty! Typically I don't get steak from restaurants unless I'm at Mastros or a restaurant along the lines of that. The reason is I feel that my husband and I can cook a really good steak at home that tastes just as good if not better than many restaurants and for the fraction of the price. But, you come to this restaurant for the steak so it is what it is lol. First of all, you can grill your own steak if you want or you can have them cook it for you. I love the teriyaki filet here! I've had the regular filet before and it was definitely not as good and after trying the teriyaki filet I will never get the regular filet again. I've also had the surf & turf which was not good. I'll stick to getting my lobster from Jim's steakhouse (fav lobster in peoria). The salad bar is awesome (honestly I would even just eat the salad bar here...). The baked potatoes are well baked potatoes (but I do love potatoes in general lol)... and remember to ask for sour cream! Honestly, they seem kind of stingy on giving sour cream... we had to ask like 2-3 times for it last time we were there (which was earlier this week). Then the waitress asked how many of us wanted the sour cream which was everyone and only brought out small dollops of it. Oh well... The sautéed mushrooms are delicious and flavorful. The Long Island iced tea is good and HUGE (I usually can't finish one by myself because I'm so full from everything else... they are definitely big enough to share). Be careful drinking these! Price is somewhat expensive in my opinion especially given the atmosphere/environment of the restaurant. It is family friendly and very casual. read more

Solid 3 stars... As a Caterpillar employee I had many opportunities to eat here and was very seldom lay disappointed. Salad bar is wonderful and filled with all the fresh veggies you would expect plus s few prepared salads for good measure. The meat is always high quality and my only Bad experience was once they mixed up my steak (sirloin instead of ribeye) and once they overcooked my meal (well instead of medium rare). Good selection of beers and alcohol from several bar locations, and plenty of desserts, though I never had room to try them. Prices are slightly above expectations, and ambiance is pier side yacht club. With so many other steak places nearby, this joint does not make the list. read more

First time here. This steakhouse was recommended by someone at work. My husband and I had an awesome dining experience. Service was on point. I'm not a steak person, but this was by far one of the best steaks I have had in years. Perfection. I had picked the 12 oz ribeye thinking I would be taking half of it home. I finished the whole thing. It was amazing. No steak sauce needed. The owner also came by and chatted with us for a few moments. The server did not coordinate the dinners for the people grilling their steaks with the rest of the table. Dinners were served way too early to the guests who didn't grill their steaks. The steaks were just okay. Not the best in the area. The salad bar is great. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is the best in the area. The experience would have been much better if the server did a better job coordinating everyone's meals so we all could have ate our meals at the same time. I will come back again. Truly the best steak restaurant in blono, this restaurant is a grill your own steak which I find to be awesome they have 2 huge grills with hot coals and all the spices for your steak you could want , Texas toast and baked tater are right close to grill as well. The have 2 coolers they put their steaks in great selection of all the cuts of beef you would want. They also have options for chicken and some seafood as well. I don't cook my own food when I go out, but some people enjoy that aspect. I had a filet and it was very tasty, but perhaps a little past medium rare. They have a "blue" option but it didn't appear any less than a normal rare to me. But, that does vary from region to region. As I said, my filet was very good, potato was perfectly baked (you would be surprised), and the salad bar had good selections. Service was a tad slow although our server was very informative. Just really not a favorite in any way although I find myself here frequently for friends' birthdays. They give $20 off a birthday dinner and a slice of cake with proof it's your actual birthday that day. Ventilation is not great for a place with several huge grills placed throughout the building. You will definitely leave smelling like you just stood over your grill at home so don't dress up. Or wear anything dry clean only. The 'add-ons' get on my nerves. A petite filet is $25.49 which is the same price you will pay at Lariat or Jims Bistro but then you have to pay an extra $2.69 to have a chef cook it. Broccoli is an extra $2 but then you don't get a potato. If the potato is included and I pay extra for a veggie, I want both the free item and the item I paid for. Sauteed mushrooms are between $3-5 at the other two steak joints but here they are $8. You are not getting anything in the way of ambiance or comfy chairs or stellar service for all these upcharges either. Which brings me to service: I don't expect a lot but I guess I expect my soda to be refilled at least ONCE during dinner. I expect to have butter & sour cream on my table for potatoes (not mine since I wasn't given one) if it's not available anywhere else. If there is a mistake on my bill, it's the servers fault, not the diners so don't get snippy with us when you can't figure it out the first time. My steak was really good and was prepared perfectly and so was my broccoli. I like how fresh the veggies are on the salad bar and they have really good ranch. My girlfriend and I decided to dine here for my birthday. I've heard from people that this place is nice, but on the expensive end. We decided to give it a try anyway. The location is tucked away and doesn't seem like its the safest either, especially after dark. We arrived at 7:15 pm. Going from best to worst, salad bar was awesome with many options! Next was our server, Tyson. He was very outgoing and aware. Made sure we had everything we needed at all times, in a timely manner without overly doing so. The only thing that I regret was that I could have grilled my own steak. However, he did not mention this to me thus I did not know about this until I read other reviews on here. Oops! As for the entree, I ordered a medium-medium rare ribeye steak and got something very close to well done. It was so hard to finish that I will bring it home to my dog instead. For compensation, we got a skillet cookie for free. Although the staff was outgoing, that won't be enough to bring me back here. Overall, I was not satisfied with the food. Will not be returning and my girlfriend agrees. (I ordered the 20 oz ribeye, 43.99$). The concept that you can grill your own steak is pretty neat though.
