Specifically, here's why I'd recommend Dr. Saba: (1) zero up-sells. Dr. Saba only advises fluoride at extra cost to me, which I always opt for - no gadgets, whitening kits, fancy brushes, etc. (2) You're dealing with the dentist at least 50% of the time. A typical appointment involves Dr. Saba cleaning your teeth and evaluating them, followed by a polish performed by the hygienist. This is a huge shift from my former dentist in Pennsylvania, whose hygienists did everything and you really only saw the dentist for like 5 minutes. (3) Thorough, quality work. Dr. Saba's cleanings are thorough (trust me, if your teeth aren't a little sore the next day, they probably aren't getting that deep dentist clean), and her filling work is excellent. She did my first (and so far only) cavity, and was courteous with my needle-phobia. Dr. Saba's office is clean and tidy, and her procedural equipment is spotless with all the expected sanitary practices in place. I couldn't find dust or dirt if I tried, and I've never spent enough time in the waiting room to review the magazines since I've never had to wait. Both have gone out of their way to accommodate me when I had a weird schedule that required last minute appointment changes. I was in a lot of pain when I first went to see Dr. Kay. Had early stage TMJ that she diagnosed (eating, kissing were both hard on my jaw, no fun) and she fitted me for a special appliance that I wear at night. It's just a tiny little piece of plastic. My pain is completely gone. Said I could have completely eroded or cracked one of my teeth if I had waited. It cost $600 but will last me the rest of my life, and Dr. Kay did 2 free refittings and a free refinishing when I accidentally cleaned it with alcohol and ruined it. Overall I'm super satisfied with my care here.

BAD BILLING PRACTICE!!! There is only one side to this story. Let me begin. I went to see Dr…read more Jelinek for TMJ pain, which is covered by my insurance BCBS, and it was verified that he is in network. It was understood by the office that my treatment would be covered by insurance when using the proper codes for claims. Imagine my surprise when I received a massive bill because the claim was DENIED. To get to the bottom of this, I had BCBS do a 3 way call with Patricia from billing to ensure their office adhered to proper protocol (using proper coding and timely submission). The wonderful BCBS insurance rep walked her through on what codes to use. Despite this, Patricia still submitted the wrong codes (not even TMJ codes, but instead for snoring- a problem I do not have). This obviously resulted in the claims getting denied, leaving me responsible for the full balance. This is best case careless and worst case, fraudulent. She didn't have the decency to inform me that the claims were denied and instead sent the bill straight to a collections agency. Imagine my surprise when I received a notice from COLLECTIONS!! Of course the letter from collections is when I learned something was clearly going wrong. I reached out to BCBS and I called Patricia immediately and she claimed she sent a bill 7 times to my confirmed home address, but I never received any bills. I spent hours on the phone with BCBS trying to figure out what went wrong only to learn that ALL the fault was on the office's end. If Patricia had filed the codes correctly like she was told, I wouldn't be hung with a full bill. Collections was actually lovely, and gave me time to figure things out. In the midst of this, I had one appointment with Dr. Jelinek and during that appointment, he rudely tried to get me to pay the bill in full, complaining he hasn't gotten paid in months and he has to pay his rent and staff. I told him the new corrected claims haven't finished processing and he needs to wait for that to go through. He has a contract with BCBS in which he has to respect the agreed rate and write off the rest, but instead he balance billed me (charging a patient more than the allowed amount) hoping to get paid in full, which is illegal in the state of VA. Balance billing is unethical. He eventually got paid by insurance and I was ready to move forward with treatment. At my next appointment, he told me he will no longer deal with insurance and I would be responsible for paying each visit in full. He said dealing with insurance is a waste of his time, even though I was the one doing all the work. He told me he is not a bank and cannot wait months to get paid as he has to pay his staff. I had to remind him that the reason was Patricia and her negligence with the codes. He said he did not want to talk about it. I wish someone had told me of his new payment policy before the appointment because I would have canceled. He waited for me to arrive to tell me this, wasting both his time and mine. He has zero regards for his patients, scamming them hoping to get maximum payment. Patricia is a nightmare to work with, an absolute royal pain- so rude even the insurance rep was shocked the way she spoke to her and Dr. Jelinek is just outright unprofessional. Lastly, the office could use an update as the decor is stuck in the 1970's.

I know they say you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover but it was this dental office's charming exteriors that initially swayed me over their flashy competitors. So I made an appointment at the little dollhouse in the middle of Clarendon. Merry (like Christmas LL), the office administrator took my initial call and was extremely accommodating to my schedule. Dr. Mooney administered the examination and performed the extractions I ended up needing. Her bedside manner is phenomenal and patience nothing less than virtuous considering the 2 year old I become when in the dentist chair. But I have to say my ABSOLUTE favorite part of the entire experience was meeting Mickey, the dental assistant. She was a joy throughout the entire process. Genuinely caring, kind, gentle and empathetic. I am grateful to have met her and will now look forward to dental appointments knowing she will be there. So if you must have a dental procedure done, come here. You'll leave smiling from ear to ear - for more reasons than one.
