Does anyone else hate it when dentists ask you questions while they have their sharp instruments in your mouth? Dr. Hill DOESN'T do that, which is a relief. After a horrible experience with a dentist in DC(where I actually left in pain several times), I migrated to Dr. Hill based on the recommendation of a friend. Her staff is friendly and professional, and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes before being seen in. She does all of the cleanings herself, and is gentle and considerate. She's practical and laid back, and I don't feel judged or lectured because I've been a bit remiss on my flossing as of late. She's a short walk from the Eisenhower metro (with plenty of parking) and is soon moving to a short walk from the King Street metro. Our entire family sees Dr. Hill and her hygienists. No blaring televisions, no toys all over the place for kids to touch. Just a lovely, serene, straight-forward office where we're treated with care. We have never been over-treated. Everyone is kind. We feel like we're in good hands and we trust Dr. Hill's advice. I've recommended her to many other families who want a practice that can treat all ages. Parking, also, is never a problem. Dr Jessica Hill has been my dentist for over five years. Her office atmosphere is always friendly and inviting. It starts with an email reminder of my appointment. I just hit reply to confirm. No phone tag or long voicemails. When I arrive, the front office woman, Jenny, is always there with a big smile to greet me by name. Each dental suite is efficiently organized and equipped with the latest technology so you are not running from room to room, nor are you left in the chair wondering if anyone is going to come back. I also love Dr Hill's taste in music piped into each room. It's calming and distracting when you find yourself singing along in your head (as someone is scraping plaque off your molars). Today, I had a wonderful experience with a new hygienist, Silviana (gosh I hope I spelled that right). She competently explained what she was doing and why she was doing it (updating my medical record, taking x-rays, checking gum recession, etc.). She gave me suggestions of how to keep my teeth healthy. Jenny set me up for my next appointment and I left the office feeling great about yet another excellent dental experience with Dr Hill. read more

Dr. Hill is the best dentist I have had. She doesn't go into lecture mode and has a sense of humor. She also cares about patient comfort. I also chipped a tooth and she fixed it for a very reasonable cost. I then chipped it again and she fixed it for free. It was my fault that it chipped so she didn't have to do that, but she did it anyway. I have moved to Rosslyn/Court House since I started with Dr. Hill, but I continue to come out to Old Town because a great dentist is hard to find. P.S. I find Dr. Hill and her staff to be very friendly and kind. Every visit I have had has been pleasant and quick. Routine teeth cleanings have always been great. Unfortunately I have had the same two fillings, that I originally received at Dr. Hill's office, pop out on numerous occasions with me returning to her office to have them fixed. Typically occurring within a one year time frame. I have decided not to return for this current incident because this has just crossed into the realm of frustrating. read more

I just got my teeth cleaned again by Dr. Hill and her staff and wanted to update how pleased I am with them. They are so darned nice! I have so much fun conversing with them that we can't even get my teeth cleaned, lol. The dental work is top notch. I am pretty awful about flossing and they put up with me, and keep my teeth in perfect condition. They also have great instructional help and are more than willing to answer all of my questions. And I have lots of questions, way more than I would expect anyone to answer. And yet they do it, every time! I love that they call me and give me a reminder about my appointment at least 48 hours in advance. Even though it's on my calendar, the call is nice. It's really easy to schedule with them and I love their beautiful office. Parking nearby is super easy as well. You can just street park, easily within 2 blocks of the building. I've been coming to Dr. Hill's office twice a year for a while now and I am thrilled about her. Also, her hygienists have settled down and I love them, too. High recommend! read more

I went to Dr. Hill for an exam and cleaning last week and I'm a fan. Dr. Hill was friendly, professional and honest (without being condescending). Additionally, I liked that she didn't try to sell me any services -- a past experience with a dentist who first asked me to look in a mirror and tell him what I didn't like about my smile, then proceeded to sell me teeth whitening and Invisilign still haunts me! Her current location on Eisenhower Avenue is a short walk from the Metro and if you drive, there is a parking lot out front and street parking, if necessary. read more

My overall experience with Dr Hill was positive, starting with her hygienist who was so kind and chatty. She made me less anxious during the cleaning by telling me exactly what was going on. When my X Ray came back and showed a possible cavity from a compacted tooth, Dr Hill and her team actually discussed it during a staff meeting! I love that they spent the time. Luckily it turned out to not be a compacted tooth. Dr Hill did a great job filling cavities, even in tricky places. Some people complained about her being mean, I think she just has a dry sense of humor and I appreciate it. Lighten up people! My only complaint is, my bill came back for the fillings and my insurance didn't cover the type of filling they did. I ended up paying a great deal out of pocket. I just wish they told me beforehand the insurance wouldn't cover it, so I could get them done elsewhere or talk to my insurance. It was especially frustrating since I have what is considered a "good" plan. I won't go back because of that. read more

I adore Dr. Hill. I found her by accident, looking for local dentists who accepted MetLife insurance but I'm so glad I did. I've been to see her three times now. She is always on time (and often early), quick but thorough, and relatively painless. I've had three routine cleanings (which, by the way, she does herself) and during one, she noticed I had a small cavity. After checking her schedule, she asked if I'd like to have it taken care of on the spot so I wouldn't have to schedule another appointment. She did the filling in 15 minutes, God bless her. I was pleasantly surprised by how respectful she was of MY time. I feel like that's all too unusual in the medical profession these days. I also love that I don't get the "lecture" if it's been a while since I flossed, if I miss an appointment, or if I mention my affection for coffee, soda and red wine. Dr. Hill gets down to business, answers questions and gives you full attention without making you feel like you've landed in the principal's office. It makes going to the dentist WAY less of a chore. The best part though, by far, are her early appointment slots (7:30 AM!) and her Saturday hours (once a month from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM)! If for no other reason than I never have to miss work to see her, Dr. Hill has my undying loyalty. As the other reviewer mentioned, she runs a no-frills practice. If you're looking for loaner iPods or TVs on the ceiling, you'll have to find them elsewhere. I would recommend just bringing your own tunes and enjoying the fact that you can get in and out of there inside a half hour. read more

I have been pleased with my care at Dr. Hill's office. The environment is bright, clean, and friendly. The receptionist has worked with me on several scheduling changes with no hassle and the appointments are on time. The hygienists are friendly and kind. Dr. Hill is very thorough in her routine examinations and did a great job filling my husband's cavities. I enjoy coming to this office and will continue to do so! A few reviewers have commented on her bedside manner but I think Dr. Hill does a great job educating and explaining the importance of dental care and the choices we make. She and her staff do a good job explaining what might happen if issues of a current routine continues. They offer solutions for both preventative care and procedures to fix current problems. Very aggressive cleaning, insisted on doing periodontal mapping and likes to lecture. I am someone who goes to the dentist twice a year and flosses regularly. I can't remember the last time I left the dentist with my gums sore and bleeding. First of all, the dental tech INSISTED on doing periodontal mapping (repetitive stabbing of your gums) despite my multiple requests not to do so. Most dentists do not do this. And then during the high-powered water-pik phase, I don't know if my gums were already sore from the previous stabbing or if she was overly aggressive, but the cleaning was painful during and after. Also, the dental tech regularly lectured me about buying a better electric toothbrush until I told her to stop. I cannot remember a worse time at the dentist. read more

3 generations of my family see Dr Hill as their family dentist. From children to seniors (me), we have been very satisfied with Dr Hill and her staff. I will be honest, after a lifetime of dental work, Dr Hill and her staff are the friendliest and most professional dental group I have ever experienced. When I had a very bad tooth problem, Dr Hill referred me to a dental surgeon for root canal work and she finished the new tooth with a crown. Let me start by saying they are very friendly and you can get a good cleaning here but that's where the happiness ends. I had a cavity filled and I'm not sure what kind of needle and drill she used but my face was swollen for 3 weeks for one small cavity on the side of a tooth. I've had a lot of dental work done before none of which felt like my whole face/head was being drilled off. It was very aggressive and violent. I've never had lasting pain, swelling or discomfort from a filling either. Plus the tooth was sensitive for a few months. I don't know what happened but honestly I would be afraid to get work done there again. Also please read all the reviews even the f i l t e r e d ones. Do not be fooled by the clean office, friendly hygienist, ease of appointments, or timeliness. I was really impressed with it all at first, and thought I'd found a great dentist, but while these are all important factors, when it comes down to it, the quality of care is poor, and Dr. Hill is a rude, rude woman. I'll admit it, I'm not an amazing flosser (but really who is?), but she is ALWAYS dropping sarcastic condescending comments such as "Sigh, I'll get you to floss someday." Like great, I know I'm not the world's most amazing flosser, but I certainly don't need your bad attitude making me feel worse (and I can say my old dentists in NJ never behaved like this). That doesn't get you anywhere...except for me switching dentists. Furthermore, I got fillings done (that never hurt before, but she declared I had, and needed to attend to), and they hurt for MONTHS after. It seemed entirely suspicious and abnormal since I experienced no pain before, and then was sensitive to cold and heat nearly four months later. I even went back and she just snubbed me and declared it was normal. If it's normal, have I had fillings done with other dentists and never experienced any of this pain or sensitivity? Jessica Hill needs to step up her empathy and warmth towards patients, as well as her ability to fill a cavity. Switched to a new practice. read more

I'm not as enthusiastic as the other reviewers, but overall it was fine. The good - reasonable cost, easy location, and I thought the staff was great. I wasn't terribly impressed with the doctor's bedside manner. I really have a preference for warm and friendly doctors or at least doctors that, although they might not be warm and fuzzy, you feel like they see you and they have made a connection with you. I found her to be a little cold. She also spoke about me to the hygienist whie I was sitting there, like, "did you tell her about night guards", " did you ask her if...". It was off putting not to be asked directly, even though my mouth had her hands in it. I really liked the hygienist, she did a great job, and since she is the one I would spend the most time with there would be no reason not to go back. read more

I went to see Dr. Hill for a general checkup after a co-worker of mine went there for an emergency crown repair. (She turned up on the list of dentists for our dental insurance, Metlife Dental). She shares an office with Dr. Colasanto, for those searching the web. I didnt know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Hill was very courteous, asked a lot of background questions, and didnt give any lectures about the fact that it had been a while since I had been to a dentist. The office doesnt have the most modern equipment like iPods to listen to or TVs on the ceiling, but its certainly not like they pulled it from a dumpster or anything. She offers early AM appointments (7:30) which is great for me to fit in cleanings before work. I only got a cleaning and checkup this time, no idea how any of the more complicated stuff would go. read more

I have been very impressed with the friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff, as well as the high-tech equipment. No waiting in the lobby! Scheduling is easy. My entire family goes here--including our under two year old, who had a great first visit with a patient and helpful staff. Dr. Hill is a very competent dentist with a great office staff. You will not wait 6wks for an appointment and her hours accommodate busy professionals. Daytime parking was a breeze and I was in and out of the office in under an hour for my check up and cleaning. It had been awhile since I'd been to a dentist but I was upfront about it and she didn't lecture me -- something I'd been dreading. There is no nonsense and no sales pressure at Dr. Hill's. I saw Dr. Hill and hygienist Kim earlier this week and had a really great experience. Kim was really nice and gentle and very personable. She really knew what she was doing and talking about when it came to cavities and cavity prevention. Dr. Hill is great and I'm really lucky to have found her. Their office also stays open late on Tuesdays so that you don't have to leave work early, which is really convenient and nice of them! I went to Jessica's office and she seems nice and friendly. I'm pretty sure she didn't mean to hurt my feelings but I personally didn't feel comfortable being there. I had a bad first experience with another dentist in the area and seeing Jessica Hill is a breath of fresh air. She does the cleanings herself and is a nice person without the airs of many doctors. She is also good at fitting you in for emergency appointments which I requested when my apoxy fell out that covered my chipped tooth. I haven't been to her new location yet but I have a feeling I will be checking it out soon! The Old Town location did not have much parking so hopefully this one is better. read more

Based on Yelper's super positive reviews, I made an appointment with Dr. Hill for a cleaning. I had a really great experience (as far as dentist appointments go). Dr. Hill's office is convenient. She is friendly and thorough. Dr. Hill took all the x-rays and did the whole cleaning herself. I don't have anything against dental hygienists but it was nice to have a dentist who spent so much time making sure my teeth were healthy! She also told me to floss more without being snarky about it. I'm happy I finally have a dentist that I like and happy teeth! read more

I have gone to Dr. Hill for two years now, and I think she's great. She's young and just starting out, so she does most of her own cleanings, which I really like. It means that she is spending more than just 30 seconds looking at your teeth. The office isn't as high-tech as some of the other places I've gone, but I also rarely have much of a wait at all, which is priceless to me. Honestly, the "spa-like" dentistries rarely take insurance, and I can always just bring an ipod with me. read more

I'm new to the area and found Dr. Hill through a search of my insurance. She is young, cute and seems very competent. I've had my teeth cleaned 2x, and had to go back for a deep filling that had broken. She was very gentle and patient and got the job done with no drama. I can't understand all the good reviews here. I didn't get good dental cleaning at all, not every tooth was cleaned, polished, touched or even looked at. The hygienist seemed to be so absentminded and distracted and doesn't know proper procedure when flossing around a crown. She seems very unskilled. The dentist was nice enough but I had issues with fillings not being polished, rough edges and large gaps. I've never had pain after fillings but after she filled my teeth I had pain and sensitivity for months. I think it's a rough hand and she's very rushed. I'm not happy with their service here. I feel like they rush cleanings and fillings and they end up not doing them properly. read more

Dr. Hill's still fantastic....just went for my check-up yesterday in her "new" location in Old Town. Can't say enough about her good work....and nonjudgmental, professional manner, all delivered with a smile (pardon the pun) and even some levity. She did not do her the teeth cleaning herself as she has done in the past, but still does a thorough exam before hand. The lady who did do the cleaning was great, however -- sorry, can't remember her name. Also, the lady who works the front desk is phenomenal. Dr. Hill wasn't a designated provider for my insurance when I last went for a visit (but has since become one,) and the front lady showed me how she'd checked BEFORE my visit about my coverage to make sure it was now in place. She also printed out - after asking me if I'd like a copy- details of my coverage limits and what my policy would pay for. LOVED that pro-activeness! She also said they're trying to go paperless, which is cool. If Dr. Hill is on your plan, don't hesitate to go see her - I highly recommend her. Doesn't hurt that she has a very nice, chic office to herself now, too. read more

We've been going to Dr. Hill for years now. The office staff is great - never had an issue with billing our insurance (Aetna), they are almost always ready for me when I get there so no long waits like other dr offices, the staff is very friendly and the office is extremely clean! I've been going to Dr. Hill for a year now and have pretty much recommended her and her staff to everyone at work. I am admittedly one of the worst dental patients ever, i'm usually jumping all over the chair, especially if the drill goes on.
