I called for a cab and I was notified 4 times that there was a driver on the way and each time I got a notification, within a couple seconds, the ride was cancelled. Why? Im not sure how assigning cabs work, but to cancel on a customer 4 times is bad business. If you dont have cabs in the area, let the customer know ahead of time and then they can make alternate arrangements. read more

I made a reservation to go about 3.5 miles and the projected cost was $13. I added a 20% tip and paid in advance. They charged my credit card $22.50. When I called they said I had left a $6.50 tip and they charged me about $1.00 for "waiting time" even though I was waiting outside my door. Apparently the driver started the time as he pulled up and it took about 30 seconds to put my luggage in. This is a scam operator and I will never use them again. read more

Bad service! Driver cancelled pick up for airport causing me to miss my flight. Also, my mother missed 4 medical appointment for failure to pick up at scheduled time. Drivers don't know how to drive, find addresses, and take the long route to charge more money. I spoke with manager each time with identifying information with no resolution or improvements. I do not recommend this taxi company. You're better off with Uber or other transportation methods. read more

After Uber cancelled my ride request, still needed to get to DCA by 4:30am, so I checked the app and called the yellow cab. When you call, it's an automated system so you indicate if you need the cab now or schedule it for later. Then you indicate the address you need the pick up from. I was surprised to get 2 phone calls. One from the automated service indicating the time for pickup, the other was from the actual driver indicating how far he was. Then he called back to ask for clarification and automated service indicated the arrival of the driver. The cab was clean, the driver had a mask and we followed the suggestion to also wear a mask. When we arrived at the airport, the final price was actually better than what Uber had quoted. Can't complain and got saved in a pinch. read more

As of recent... 3 times called, one time was told to hit #1 to talk to driver... Driver told me he wasn't coming to get me, said he told dispatch the same.. Told me screw off.. And hung up on me. Called dispatch, was told they have no control over drivers, if I still wanted a cab, they could put me "back in the lineup" .. Second call I was told it was too late, there were no drivers... 3rd call I was told to stop calling, they had no drivers and I was told they were not sending me one.. Started trying to get a cab at 2:15am, by 4:39am, I had been pawned off, told to screw off, and told I wasn't getting a cab.. I used to be impressed with this place.. Now I just call uber. read more

For the most part, service had been very prompt. I only had a problem once when I had booked a taxi for an early flight out of Dulles. They were so late that I almost missed my flight to Japan, so I had to switch to another cab company, but barring that things have been fairly good. One of the best features about this cab service is that they will give your car a jump, and I hate to say it, but my beloved roadbeast has needed that assistance from time to time. read more

If the weather is crap outside, don't call Alexandria Yellow Cab. Just don't, because you'll end up waiting fruitlessly, be put on hold indefinitely, then get cranky when you ask for a taxi status. Don't expect them to let you know that your cab "had trouble" which is why 30 minutes had passed and there's still no cab in sight. Nope - you need to be on their ass to make sure they dispatch a second cab. Then a third. Thanks to the terrible weather today, I knew it would take a while to get a ride - but hey, that's fine, it would be better than waiting for bus and train delays and walking 3 blocks from the Metro to the office in the rain (all while getting splashed by speeding cars.) Called at 9:05, was notified that cab #213 would arrive in 10-20 minutes. I call back at 9:30 because - hey, still no cab; was put on hold (with no notice: i thought they'd hung up on me), then was told crankily that cab #213 had "trouble". I was told 10 minutes, there's a cab on the way. They dispatch a second cab (#93) - got the text notification at 9:31am. 9:36, I get another text that cab #39A was dispatched. I gave the fuck up and canceled, and took public transpo (thanks, WMATA. You saved my bacon.) Here's a tip, Alexandria Yellow Cab: customers like myself tend to be pretty understanding especially when there's shitty weather out there. I know there's a dearth of cabs and a wealth of waiting customers when it's pouring outside. But seriously, don't fucking waste my time, give me attitude when I call politely to find out the cab status, and still fail to deliver service. Tell me the truth re: wait times, keep me posted on my status (text messaging, it's awesome!), so I can make a more informed decision (wait, take public transpo, or stay the hell home and watch soap operas on a shitty day.) I needed a ride from Alexandria Amtrak train station and I didn't have anybody to pick me up. There were no taxis at the station, so I looked up the number for Taxi and called Alexandria yellow Cab. The process of ordering was convenient and automatic, easy to use. I got a call back almost immediately informing me that my taxi is on its way and will be there shortly. The driver was very friendly, and got me to the destination timely. Payment is easy, you can use credit/debit card, the terminal is in the car, and you get a receipt as well. I am satisfied with the service and will use this company again if in DC. read more

We were referred to this cab company by the www.gogreentaxicab.com located at 4917 Brenman Park Dr, Alexandria, VA 22304. The original cab company was overbooked and suggested that I reserve a ride from Yellow Cab, Alexandria. This morning, I made a reservation for a wheelchair accessible cab to pick us up at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in the American Airlines Arrival Section at 2:00 PM. The company was nice enough to text me a confirmation. After waiting for one hour post-flight​ for the cab to arrive, I received another text at 2:00 PM notifying me that my ride was in progress and I could track the cab to include another 30 minutes of driving. I immediately hailed a Blue Top Taxi with wheelchair accessibility. I fired the yellow Taxi Driver on the spot. I called the cab company. I told them that I fired their driver for failing to show up at the airport. I explained​ that I was giving my money to an actual taxi driver who was able to show up at the right place and time instead of just starting out heading towards the agreed pick-up address at the exact moment that he should have been there at the pick-up address. Their first response to my explanation was to ask me if I wanted to send someone else to pick us up. I said there's NO WAY EVER that I would want a taxi company who can't show up on time to pick me up. The next offering they gave was, "Well, at least you got a cab." They weren't​ bothered in the least that their driver blew off a fifty dollar bill from a potential customer. Maybe they have bigger fish to fry? I wouldn't recommend this cab company to my enemies! They are great when you can get one. Recently as of October, November 2022 it has been very hard to get a cab at a reasonable time, especially in the evenings. I don't know if they have a shortage of drivers or what's going on. I had to cancel a doctors appointment because I could not get a cab in time. I may have to try Lyft or Uber. read more

Made an advance reservation for trip to airport. Called because cap was late. Received an automated message that said sorry, we don't know when a cab will arrive as we're trying to locate a driver. I never received a text or notice that the cab wasn't coming and arrived at the airport much later than planned due to having to find alternate transportation. Security line was about 100 people long causing a bit of anxiety about making my flight. Wouldn't have happened if this business was professional enough to let a person who made an advance reservation know no taxi was available. Will never use this company again. read more

Have quit trying to use them. While the online booking system works great, over the last two years service has declined to where they cannot be relied on to show up. The following has now happened several times, I booked the reservation the day before and when I called them the next morning asking where the cab was since it had not arrived, they said it would be 30-45 minutes. There are pretty much only two cases in which I take cabs in this area. One: I'm in DC without my car and it's past metro hours. Or two: I'm at my house in Old Town and am heading to the airport with too much luggage to walk to metro. In the later case, Alexandria Yellow Cab is my go to. Now, seeing as I almost never have cash on me, my main requirement for a cab is that they take credit, with an added preference of them not bitching about it. All AYC vehicles take credit and not a single one has ever said anything to me about it. They're always quite accommodating and provide receipts if you want them. Plus, it's a legit credit card machine, not carbon paper that has your entire hand written credit card number that you subsequently worry the driver will use later, like all the cabs in DC. It's super efficient to get an AYC to pick you up. Call the number on their website. Give your name, location and contact number. Too easy. They even ask if you want text message notifications for when the taxi has been dispatched and when it arrives. They must have it set up for caller ID because the second time I phoned they answered the call with "are you ready to be picked up at [my address]?" Not gonna lie, I was a little taken aback...how do they know? Oh right, I gave them that info. Hey, saves me the time of having to regurgitate the same information every time. Work smarter not harder! I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for my ride to show up, though if out in the sticks of Alexandria it may take longer than Old Town. And the 10-15 minute wait was on Thanksgiving. Usually I get the "taxi dispatched" text immediately after placing my call and a car is there in 5 minutes or less. It's to the point I have my bags waiting outside before I make the call, and even then the cabbie has to wait for me to double check I have my purse, haven't forgotten anything and have locked the door. After having so many bad cab experiences in DC and other major cities, it's nice to know I can rely on AYC to get me where I need to go under my requirements for payment method and efficiency. read more

Rude Driver, Tried to Rip Me Off... I caught a cab at the King Street metro station and was going less than 10 blocks...the driver waited until he had pulled out of the metro parking lot to let me know that he wasn't carrying any change and couldn't change my $20. Since I had a wallet full of 20's plus a few singles, I asked him how he expected to be paid, since I wasn't going to give him 20 buck for a trip that should have cost much less than that (including tip). What ensued was a 2-3 block long argument where I felt that the driver was trying to extort the full $20 from me (in an incredibly condescending tone, I might add). I told him to let me out of the cab immediately, which he did, only to return to the King St Metro to pick up the next unsuspecting customer. I called the company to complain. They confirmed that drivers are supposed to carry change with them at all times. I asked that a manager call me back during business hours (the whole thing went down late at night) and I have yet to hear from anyone. Gonna make every effort to use another company from now on. Side note: Last 2 times I called for a cab, they arrived later than promised. I actually caught a yellow cab that just happened by while I was waiting for 'my' cab...when I asked the driver why the cabs are late when I call for them, he told me that the dispatchers will sometimes send his/her buddy, who might not be the closest car to my location and might not even be in the local area. Makes sense that this would cause the cabs to take nearly a half hour to arrive... read more

Always my first choice for a cab for two reasons: They're always on time, and their cabs all take credit cards. Anytime I need a cab to pick me up, I can rely on Alexandria Yellow Cab to pick me up on time (often a couple of minutes early even) and get me where I need to go. Their cabbies are usually incredibly friendly. They also are using the Taxi Magic smart phone app, which is quicker than paying using their in-car credit card machines. I did have my first bad experience with them this weekend, although it wasn't REALLY bad. The cabbie was just grumpy, I guess, and yelled at me for paying with the app because apparently, while its easier for the customer its more work for the driver. Not that I care - I do what's easiest for me. I used their contact form online, but this was the first time I've ever had one of their drivers be anything but awesome, so I'm not letting it affect my review. Reliable, on time, and I'm always disappointed when I'm coming home from the airport and there are no Yellow Cabs available. Update: I did receive a very quick response from the company apologizing for the service, as I expected I would. Just reinforces my desire to keep working them. read more

Worst cab I've been in. Costed me $30 to go from DCA to DuPont Circle. I took an Uber afterwards to go back and costed me $13. The driver did some shady stuff and added all these extra fees for every little bag I had. Started the meter at $13! I argued but decided it wasn't worth it. Reserved cab the night before early flight from Reagan using Yellow Cab's automated system (which is only option). I called when the cab was 10 minutes late and was informed the automated system was not working and cab would be another 5-10 minutes which doesn't work a 4:50 in the morning. Ended up driving myself and parking for five days as a result. Left a few messages for a supervisor and was never called back. Have used them for over 25 years and have had issues before. I use Yellow Cab whenever I need one here in Alexandria for one simple reason, their phone number is very similar to a friends so I know their number off the top of my head. One serious piece of advice to folks looking to use this cab company - have some clue how to get to the location yourself even if that means a quick peek at google maps or something. I mostly use them to head to the airport and every time the driver ALWAYS tries to mysteriously go they opposite direction to National. I've just learned to watch for the tell-tale left bent of the cab as we pull out of the driveway and instruct the driver to "no, where do you think you're going, go right and straight over to highway". Simple attentiveness trims the excess $5-7 that could be added to the fair going the other way. Otherwise, the cabs have always been in fine condition and simple common sense regarding luggage handling (i.e. the suitcase I'm giving the airlines - toss it around all you want LOL, I'll hang onto the laptop bag) have avoided any oopsy disappointments. And I will admit, there have been times when I REALLY needed a driver that understood the concept of alacrity I've been pleasantly surprised. read more

I'm on crutches and needed a ride from Eisenhower Ave metro station back to my apartment. It was a Friday night, so I called ahead and got an estimated arrival of 20 minutes. I got to the station and waited. 35 minutes after placing the order, I called back and nicely requested another cab (a 5-20 minute estimated arrival time for this one). 45 minutes later, still no cab. My fiance had to leave me alone, walk back to our apartment in the middle of the night, and come back to pick me up. While waiting for him, I got harassed by a sketchy homeless man. Neither cab ever came, despite dispatch texts that the driver was on the way. THANKS ALEXANDRIA YELLOW CAB. Update: About 2 months after this experience, a representative (Rhett) from Alexandria Yellow Cab e-mailed me wanting to know more details. He was very professional and apologetic, and explained some of the pitfalls of cab service operation in an objective way without being defensive. He provided me with a $25 coupon to try the service again. I have to hand it to the customer service department for being very respectful and truly willing to mitigate concerns. The experience itself was poor, but I did certainly appreciate having my individual needs addressed by AYC. I'll give the coupons a try and hopefully service will be better. read more

I scheduled a pick up for 730am and he was more then on time. He was 25 mins early! He said to take my time and he knew that he was early. Cabs are clean. When you set up a pick up time you can have the option to receive a call when the driver arrives. They send you a text message for the confirmation, when the driver is on their way and when they arrive. Not sure if a phone is needed with all the text information but that choice is yours. read more

We had an important event last night and had called another company. After 30 minutes, at least 6 messages of different taxis heading our way, seeing one of our taxis slowly drive by and then speed off, and multiple phone calls, no taxi ever came and we were stressing about being late. We were standing outside of a metro for about 40 minutes while I wore a strapless ball gown in 40 degree weather. I quickly googled another company which happened to be Yellow Cab. The driver arrived in 5 minutes or less and was very nice. He didn't realize until later that the on ramp he got on was for through traffic instead of local (we needed one of the next exits) and this caused a delay and a trip that would have been about $13 do climb to nearly $30. He was very gracious and said that he would only charge $13 because of the mistake even though he very well could have charged us the full amount. I gave him a 30% tip for his kindness. We were very satisfied with the prompt pick up and the driver for charging us what it should have been instead of the more than double it ended up being. read more

We had prompt service and got a phone call when the cab arrived. The driver was a polite, charming, and talkative man from Ethiopia. We were in a hurry to make a train at Union Station, and explained that to the driver. We also acknowledged that with traffic, we might not make it, and in that case, we'd take another train. But the driver rallied. He let us out quickly, across the street from the station, and we scurried to the train. If people in DC really don't like this cab service, they should try NYC for some perspective. read more

After 40 minutes, I'd missed my hair appointment, the people I called continually to get status updates with arrival estimates lied. I'm waiting outside for 20 minutes in bitter freezing cold. F this company to hell. My stylist books up fast and now i'm screwed on Valentines day with dirty hair. Red Top is much more reliable. I had a cab coming from Red Top but because they quoted longer, I decided to go with these fools. Never again. read more

Ugh. Never again. These guys still charge a .50 fuel surcharge even as gas prices go down. I also had a disastrous experience when I was stuck at the Braddock Road metro station for a whole hour and the operators refused to dispatch a taxi, even when I called four times over the hour! They kept saying, "one will be there in 10-15 minutes," but, no cab. Ridiculous. I ended up having to take the metro to Springfield to have my boyfriend pick me up. [UPDATE 7/2/11: a manager named Kyle has responded to my complaint and gave his apology, a detailed action plan and some vouchers for the inconvenience, which I appreciate.
