I buy a Groupon for $130 for a Brazilian blowout When l got their for my Appointment l was told by Alex It was going to be $80 Dollars more because the length of hair . My hair was pass my shoulders so which l thought it was unprofessional to put a price on Groupon and not put that hair pass your shoulders is going to be Extra . Is bad to have you buy Groupon for the Brazilian blowout And you get charge a lot more when you get their !! And he told me next time don't buy it from Groupon just paid him . Well he said my the Brazilian blowout would last 3 months it only last 2 months And l buy everything for my hair that he told me too spending $150 on the Special Shampoo and Conditioner & leave in Conditioner . I've been coming to Alex for 5 years now and have never been happier with my hair. Hair cuts, hair color, brazilian blowouts, perms (which I have all gotten from him by the way), ANYTHING and he will do an amazing job! Nice place, nice people, good conversation, walk in appointment available immediately. My hair turned out nice, but TBH I was very nervous during the entire haircut and highlights - the stylist lacked confidence and was disorganized during the entire process. My foils were all over the place- crumpled, I have never seen them like that before. My haircut turned out nice...and the highlights turned out nice which is what really matters - Right? I don't usually blow dry my hair- I just let it air dry after I wash it, so I guess I will find out how the cut really looks without the style after I go do a swim in the ocean and wash my hair. I requested a haircut and a touch up on highlights. I was charged $280. Of course I also gave a 20% tip too- so it came to $336. I didn't know what I was being charged for. When I got back to the place we are staying and looked up the prices on Alex Salon website... I realized I must have been charged for a Brazilian Blowout- but I didn't ask for one. I watched Alex highlight, wash, blow dry and style another woman's hair and charge her $65 while I was having my hair done by another person in the salon - then Alex charged me $280 for the same requested service. My stylist was newish so she had Alex do her charges. I have never paid so much for a cut and highlight. I felt a little cheated - after I believed I was being so patient while the newish stylist fumbled with my drape- on and off three or four times getting my hair all over my clothes, foils in globs on my head, leaving my hair in my face for most of my visit, wanting me to slide down in my seat so she could reach my hair, not using shampoo to wash the bleach/highlight out of my hair or conditioner before combing my hair, using cold water on my head, turning me to face away from the mirror during the entire haircut and blow dry which made it so I could not see what she was doing or what she was putting in my hair, and apparently adding on other services without my permission and without me knowing. Good thing my hair grows fast, and money isn't everything. Transparency in business dealings is always better than assumptions - I guess I should have asked before I left- I didn't want to be a chump and not pay for services rendered, but now I believe I was charged for services not requested. read more

I usually don't write reviews but I have to let everyone know how AMAZING Alex is. He is a very kind man, easy to converse with and INCREDIBLE with hair. I have received several Brazilian Blowouts in the past and nothing compares to how he did it. My hair feels great. He also trimmed my hair, by far the best trim I have received. Probably the greatest haircut experience I've had in my life. I had just returned to San Diego after being out of town for 2 weeks, knowing that I needed a haircut. While running errands in La Jolla, I drove past the storefront, and gave the salon a call. Alex answered and said to just swing by and he'd take care of me (keep in mind this is Easter Sunday - come to find out Alex doesn't usually works Sundays). Briefly told Alex what I wanted and within 10 minutes of sitting in the chair, I had an A+ haircut, shampoo and styling, all at the hands of an amazing business owner. Cannot recommend Alex's Salon enough. The next time you think Great Clips is more convenient, the answer is it's not. Paying more for quality is SO worth it. read more

Completely ignored my request on how I wanted my hair. I showed him a picture of how I wanted my hair and probably only looked at it for 2 seconds. When I told him not to cut my sides to short, Alex replied "don't worry" and mercilessly almost shaved my sides. He also thinks people don't feel pain, my scalp and ears ended up red after he passed the razor and scissors throughout. ALEX IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I don't normally write reviews, but this man is the BEST. I went in for the very first time to get a Brazilian blowout and he went ABOVE AND BEYOND for my hair. He not only did the treatment, washed, blow-dried, straightened and cut my hair, but he even went as far to do the last step which is a deep-condition and RE-BLOW DRIED AND STYLED MY HAIR which NO other salon I've been to has done. It's tedious, but VERY important to a quality blowout!! My hair has literally never looked or felt better after his treatment! I went to Alex's hair salon to get hair color correction and go blond, but i got ripped off by their prices & did not get the result that i was promised. The lady who did my hair was Badri Kermani. First when I called to get an appointment I asked her about the prices and she told me that I have to see your hair first and then give you a quote (which she did not until the end, then she surprised me!) my hair was so orangish, which was my problem before going there. She also goes by her own prices even-though she works at Alex's hair salon, also she works hourly. I've never been to a salon that charges hourly Long story short, after waiting in that salon for several hours I had to go back again in a week to fix my orange hair again. When I went back again for the second time I told her that she charged me so much and it does not make sense to me why I had to pay $300, but she answered I have my own prices and I don't go with what the salon has on their card! At the end I did not like my look so I had to go dark again which I did myself at home to avoid her "great service". I went to Alex's hair salon to get hair color correction and go blond, but i got ripped off by their prices & did not get the result that i was promised. Also, she is extremely rude. I am not a big fan of changing hair places, but I was short on time and saw some good reviews so I decided to give it a try. Although I cannot speak for other stylist in the salon I can speak for Alex, who by the way is the owner. My hair is extremely short already, which is how I like it, and is so easy to cut it is not even funny. I sat down and it pretty much went like this Me: How much to do my hair Alex: For you it will be $20 Me: Sounds good Alex: How would you like it cut Me: pretty simple actually... just a #2 on the sides and back and about 1/3 off the top then just blend it in Alex: #2 is too short for you, you won't like it Me: No I have been getting it that way for almost 20 years... its okay Alex: No I am going to use a #3, you will see Me: No #2 is fine The guy ignores me and just keeps going with a #3... At this point I really did not care since I was running late and just figured I would get it recut in a couple of weeks by my regular person. I am not sure if this guy was caffeine or coke to the hilt, but he is cutting my hair like he is in a race or something. He then tells me it will be $5 for the shampoo. I thought it was $20 which he said was only for the cut. I was too tired to argue so I agreed, which I now regret because during the wash he lifts my head and totally douses me with water all down my back.... My shirt is literally soaked Does not apologize, but just says I will dry that off with the blow dryer. He asks to blow dry my shirt, but it is so wet I am not going to sit there while he blow dries my shirt. I just ask for another towel and some gel for my hair. He said I have a pomade which is better for you. I told him know I don't like that stuff only gel please. He said what about this special paste.... By this time I was pretty furious and tell him I just want gel nothing more nothing less. He pulls out the bottle and holds it over my hands for me to put in my hair... what the hell. I go to pay and they guy has the balls to charge me for the wash.... I was like really, I'm soaked. He said I can blow dry it off for you. Needless to say I did not leave a tip and I will not be going back there. Again I cannot speak for the other stylist in the salon but I would avoid using Alex... read more

Dont' bother to even call this place. Alex was recommended. He quoted me one price over the phone and said he could't dry my hair. Odd. Decide to keep the appointment. I told Alex what I wanted. And it was like talking to the wall. I wanted blonde highlights and dark low lights weave. He basically colored my hair all one color with dark underneath. Cut my hair...the worst cut. I have never been to this salon before, but once my normal hair dresser moved there I made my way there. Her name is Minoo, she is the sweetest lady. I found her randomly at another salon and she did such a great job, I am hooked. She does a great job and she is always available. The last time I needed a trim, I texted her and she was able to take me in right away. Anytime I needed a trim and needed it last minute, she always makes room in her schedule for me. My hair is curly and she made it look good short (this is very hard to do, I love my new haircut and always wanted it short but most people don't do a good job with curly hair). Been cutting hair with Brenda for 4 years now. I have ridiculously thick asian hair, yet Brenda's been able to cut nice, long layers and even cut the cutest side-sweep bangs. She has lots of experience cutting hair for the UCSD students. I'd characterize her cuts as more professional and conservative. She really listens to you, yet makes recommendations when she really feels strongly about something. She also does wedding hair and up-dos for special occasions. Cuts are $40. After searching around the Internet for a place nearby, I found Alex's Salon. There are a couple of specials for first-time clients. So, I went for a walk-in appointment and was immediately able to get a haircut from Alex, the owner of the salon. Mind you, this was on a Wednesday afternoon around 3:30pm so, except for the mani-pedi stations which were busy, I was the only one getting a haircut. I managed to get the website special which is a $15 haircut and $5 for shampoo but no blowdry. I knew I was taking a small risk with not getting my hair dried (mistake #1) - ladies, if your hair is stubborn or not very manageable, ALWAYS get your hair dried so the stylist can fix it afterwards. This is what I usually do and I chose not to this time. Alex was friendly and listened to what I wanted. Of course, I didn't have a picture with me (mistake #2) so of course what I was picturing in my head was not the same as what I was hoping Alex would do. I think it only took 10-15 minutes tops for him to cut my hair. With my hair wet, it was hard to know for sure what my hair would look like when it was dry. So when I got home, i dried my hair and found out the the haircut was exactly what I paid for. It was decent but I've had better, especially ones I've paid more for and had stylists cut more meticulously. The regular price for a haircut at Alex's is $35. Considering I got the special, I'm not sure if he would have cut my hair the same at $35. I would give this place another chance but not make the same mistakes. Next time I would have to bring a picture, get my hair cut and dried, and find out. This salon does not accept credit cards, only cash or checks. read more
