Horrible experience here. I recently went natural so I understand it may take more time but that's what a hair stylist is for.. TO CARE. The younger girl washed my hair which didn't feel to good. Usually I'm in heaven with head massaging.. Like she barely touched my head. I asked for a deep conditioner which she didn't even cover my entire head with the product. I asked for more and she didn't understand which I then realized I was in trouble. She began to set my hair and I mean PAIN. You could tell she was combing from the root and snatching my hair out. I had to tell her multiple times (barely since she didn't understand) that she had to wet it, apply product and be gentle. It came to the point where I did it myself. (The comb was FILLED and I was pissed) After that torture I sat under the dryer. When I was done AGAIN, not gentle at all when combing out just ROUGH. I brushed it myself and told her she could not blow me out (I just knew she would blow my ears off). An older lady ended up doing my blow out and straightening.. BORING. No shine, no bounce, nothing. Def couldn't get it fully straight, within a day it was done. Never again. ** my gma ended up getting her hair blown by the younger girl (I warned her but she said it was okay) .. Like a grandma she complained the entire drive back how she burned her the entire time smh. read more

I was on a hunt for a Dominican hair salon due to their reputable blowouts. I'm happy I found this place. My daughter and I were very pleased with the service and their system to get their clients ready. No appointments, it's first come first serve. The salon is very busy so get ready to spend a few worthwhile hours. (I did go a day before first day of school) My review is missing a star due to their poor appearance! I was referred to Martha from my coworker and their prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent she's very humble and very sweet she does an excellent job I went in for color highlights and wash and set blowdry and flat iron and she wrap my hair and for all that she just charge me $130 I'm super happy and that's gonna be my go to place I found out that they do eyelashes eyebrows. And keratin, I was very happy and I will be seeing them in a week they open seven days a week very convenient and very close my new place. Martha is awesome read more

If you;re not dealing with Martha dont bother. There's a woman there who avoids doing your hair if its not relaxed. once I stopped relaxing my hair and went natural, she ceased ever working on my hair and makes derogatory comments about my hair in Spanish. I agree with the lady below about roughness, they use the same tools that's fine for straight relaxed hair on natural hair which is rough and can pull hair out. Very big NONO. 2 stars is for Martha and Martha alone, she does excellent work and the only friendly person there. Warning: Make sure to ask for pricing of service befor ethey start, they have a tenancy of changing prices randomly. Was told $35 at the beginning and was charged $45 at the end. Visited Alex's Unisex Beauty Shop and was very happy that I did. I walked in and was taken care of right away. No waiting and the quickest blow out I've ever received ! I was out in 45 minutes. I was charged $25 for a wash and blow dry. I'm happy that there is a Dominican run salon in Peekskill. read more

I don't want to back again!! Because i wanna just regular cut, when i off. Hair designer asked me, if you want wave dry, it is just $40. I said " I don't need awesome hair dry & wave." I was like I really want to take a nap . I was so tired. I said I don't need it and just finish. She said...you know what I saying..? Just $40 ..you hair is beautiful..something bla~bla~~ I said "it's okay! I'm not going party tonight. I will stay home." After finished, she want to take photos my hair. And I paid $40 dollars, i told her i want to get back $10. But she gave me $5. She got $10 tips!! I paid 40% tips. $25 dollars hair cut..Does it really exist? She's cut skills good! Finally, A hair stylist that knows how to color my dark brown (almost black) roots with grays to match the rest of my honey blond hair color! She was even able to even out an my 3-toned hair (2 tones from an old hair stylist who in the past failed to even out the color). Also got a layered cut and left with beautifully styled hair just how I know dominicans usually know how to do. The price was very reasonable and even cheaper than I expected. I am very happy. I will definitely become a regular. I appreciated that Martha wrote down what colors she used to achieve my beautiful color for future reference, definitely a plus in my book. Oh and lastly I was seen very promptly although I was a walk-in and the place was a bit busy for a Wednesday morning. read more

I've been to this establishment twice. The first time, it was a tolerable experience-- the scratching of my scalp was a little rough but I could tolerate it because my hair ended up looking nice. The last time I went will be the last time I step into this salon. I was there for maybe 2? 3 hours? For what? A simple wash and blow dry. When I first stepped in it was pretty empty. I thought I would be done with in the hour. My hair was washed quickly but again rough on my scalp, but besides that it was pretty uncomfortable. I had my shirt soaked in water before the conditioner was in. Then my hair was put into rollers; which I didn't ask for. But I let it slide. After the rollers I waited a really long time to get into the chair to blow it out. Which was understandable because there are other people, other PAYING customers. So I waited and when I finally got into the chair, she took the rollers out and it looked HORRENDOUS. It was rough and oily unlike my first experience there. Then the lady who was doing my hair bailed and I had to wait in the chair for 10-15 minuets.. I was getting annoyed. Then another woman showed up to do my hair finally! Hallelujah! But I should have waited to shout my hoorays because this lady didn't finish blow drying my hair, left a piece of my hair undone. I wanted to cry. But she continued to flat iron my hair like it was done. The conclusion is my hair feels burnt and oily and I am GLAD that the reason I need my hair done was later in the week I had another day to get this situated. Waste. read more

I live in Monroe, NY and I was in desperate need to find a Hispanic hair salon since my hair is naturally curly Puerto Rican hair and not a lot of people know how to blow dry my hair. So I went searching on the Internet and found Alex's Unisex Beauty Shop which is only 24 minutes from where I live. When I went in I was greeted by one of the hairstylist named Tita and I was able to walk-in do a wash, set and blow dry in an hour. Probably my worst experience at a hair salon. Walked in expecting some sort of greeting when instead I received stares. I felt really uncomfortable. Very little communication since I guess the stylists didn't really know much English but I was okay with that since they would know how to deal with my Dominican hair. I explained to the stylist I wanted a very small trim since I wanted to grow my hair long. The cut was very fast and unfortunately I couldn't see how much was being cut but throughout the cut and dry I remained still and optimistic (I couldn't see what was going on since something covered the mirror.) I would have checked but someone else came to sweep up the hair before I could see it. I also had to ignore the fact that a man seemed to be bothering/annoying the lady who was working on my hair. It was all very quick but in the end I realized my hair was so much shorter. I asked how much she cut exactly and she said half an inch, maybe an inch (I guess she didn't even know herself). In the end I found out the difference was so obvious and way more than an inch was cut off (maybe 2 inches). I was extremely disappointed and hurt since my hair grows extremely slow and after a year of finally beginning to get longer it was brought back to as short as it was when I first got it cut that short. I wouldn't go again or recommend the place to anyone. It isn't professional and usually I'm the type of person to let things slide and forgive but I won't ever forget this. It'll take forever to get back what was cut off that day. read more
